This was a good one, for years, decades, we've sang along or tapped the steering wheel while listening to this on the radio. There's so many tracks for you to still hear for the first time that will light you up just like this one.
I tap the steering wheel and sing along to this song. I am 36. Good music is timeless, period. New music is just autotune and bullcrap lyrics. They just don't make music like they used to, sadly.
What I love most about this ... a hit, is a hit, no matter when, no matter who hears it 😁 It felt the same to all of us the first time we heard it back in '84. Difference was we had to wait and HOPE it would come on the radio again soon! Or phone in and request it ... or head down to the record store and pick up that disc! Love your energy 👏 Maybe check out "Hold The Line" by Toto for a whole different dimension. They have many.
Toto is a vibe. You noticed it before the lyrics came in, that's cool. I recommend more from them. "Hold The Line", "Rosanna", "I'll Be Over You". Great reaction Ashley, thank you.
Respect and love for iconic drummer, Jeff Porcaro. In addition to being a founding member and original drummer of Toto, Jeff Porcaro was a legendary studio drummer who arguably was the most recorded drummer in the seventies and eighties playing on hundreds and hundreds of songs. He played on numerous tracks for Steely Dan, Michael Jackson (4 out of the 9 tracks, including "Beat it" on the bestselling album of all time, "Thriller"), Michael McDonald ("I keep forgetting"), Boz Scaggs (all of "Silk Degrees"), Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Lionel Richie, Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, Bee Gees, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, the list goes on and on. Jeff Porcaro always played to the song with impeccable timing and feel defining Toto's sound (also co-wrote "Africa"). The entire band where outstanding in their own right, but Jeff Porcaro's drumming was the heart and soul of Toto's sound. When you listen to a Toto song recorded in the seventies and eighties listen closely to the drums to really appreciate how great Toto is. Jeff/Mike Porcaro RIP.
Hi Ashley, Yes TOTO is an "elite" band, consumite professionals and a total "VIBE!!!" Please react to their other songs: "Hold The Line," "Rosanna" and "Georgie Porgy" as you will just fall in love with TOTO...I too "Bless The Rains Down In Africa!!!"
There is a solar-powered audio device somewhere in the middle of the Kalahari desert that plays this song on a continuous 24-hour loop. Not sure of the year it was placed there but only surviving band members know the precise location from what I understand
Kind of right. It was actually set up by Namibian-German artist Max Siedentopf. It was set up in the coastal Namib Dessert. The setup consists of a MP3 player, 6 speakers and a solar panel system. Max has provided maps that gives the general location of his setup, but the exact location is unknown. Max did this out of his love for 80's music culture of the United States. By the way, even the band members do not know of the location.
The song to me is like a train that won't stop. The beat.... it just keeps chugging. A lot of people don't realize that the beat never stops or changes.
Just found your channel. You crack me up when you squeek with happiness 😂. It never gets old watching someone hear the music, I grew up on, for the first time. It's just sooo good!
so there is a video somewhere on youtube there that shows them isolating each and every instrument and it's wild because as you hear each "track", your mind will automatically fill in the rest of the song w/o you even realizing it. these guys were some of the best technical musicians to ever be in a recording studio. the songs of they are on as a STUDIO BAND is nothing short of legendary.
Good show, your reactions are always so sweet and vivid.. I am wondering, have you missed the vocal group Home Free...? You should pick them up too, so cool...
Quincy Jones called some of the guys & asked them to give some music. They didn't have a blank tape, so they taped over it. MJ & Q were in the studio & someone didn't stop the tape. They didn't want anything else, but Human nature started playing & Q & MJ said what the hell is that?? Please react to Georgy Porgy next AND Eric Benet & Faith Evan's (r&b artists) cover. They have a lot of hits too. Enjoy!
Torn between the love he has for this woman flying in to be with him -- and the wild majestic mystical magnetism he's grown to be a part of in the African continent.
You have a great vibe meter. You make me appreciate how lucky I was to grow up with all of this music. I grew up with all of this music you are now discovering. Yeah, I love this track from Toto.
I am glad that you liked this song so much. It came out in 1983, when I was 28 years old. Do the math. I am an old geezer now. However, I never tire of hearing this song. One of the all time greats, as is Toto. A band of absolutely superior musicians. It is my feeling that it is long overdue for them to enshrined in the rock and roll HOF. I suggest you listen to Rosanna. Another iconic song by them.
Toto was/is made up of first rate backup singers and instrumentalists. From many genres of music. They simply rocked the house for decades. Find the Africa video. It's really good, too
The recording process of this, specifically how they created the beat was interesting to say the least. The technology then was not near what we have now.
Toto has a couple live versions of this tune that are not only equally impressive, but in my opinion they are possibly better than the studio version. With the exception of the bass line in the original.
The song was edited a bit for this video. There's more intro and outro on the full track. It's a bit jarring to me to not hear that. But it's STILL good.
You also never heard Nightwish or their Singer Floor Jansen? You simply missed the best female voice of today. No it's not Rhianna or Beyonce' it is Floor. Other singers mostly sing what they can as in you probably will not hear Rhianna or Beyonce' sing a metal or hard rock song, Floor isnt like that she can sing anything even the phonebook and it sounds just great. Check out Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (live @ wacken 2013)
80s music never gets old. Such a good decade for music.

A true timeless hit. Love the way you appreciated a song I grew up with. 😊

This was a good one, for years, decades, we've sang along or tapped the steering wheel while listening to this on the radio. There's so many tracks for you to still hear for the first time that will light you up just like this one.
You ever get buzzed and belt this song out while you’re having a bon fire and it’s raining? Good times
I tap the steering wheel and sing along to this song.
I am 36.
Good music is timeless, period. New music is just autotune and bullcrap lyrics. They just don't make music like they used to, sadly.
Oh man…takes me back to fun times years ago.
Welcome to the 80's Sweetness!!!
Smooth sound and total relaxation 😌 from Toto!!!!

All of these guys were "session musicians". Hence their skills.
The face scrunching says it all 🔥

I guess you referred to the fact that they all were professional musicians. To ears this can be an easy one, but to play not so much.
I’ve loved this song since it came out! High School memories!

The amount of cheesing at the onset of the first chorus made the whole video worth it. Thank you ♥️
always loved this one...that beat!
This reminds me of me and my family driving to the mall in the 80’s😊😊😊😊❤😊❤😊
You have a great vibe meter. You make me appreciate how lucky I was to grow up with all of this music. I grew up with all of this music you are now discovering. Yeah, I love this track from Toto.

Take a look at I‘ll be over you by Toto.
You need headphones.
Since you like this song so much, there's an excellent metal cover done by Frog Leap Studios that you'll probably like to!!
Trivia: the line "sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti" isnt actually possible. Kilimanjaro rises above Amboseli.
Toto has a couple live versions of this tune that are not only equally impressive, but in my opinion they are possibly better than the studio version. With the exception of the bass line in the original.
"YALL" you gotta be a Texas gal ❤
