His beautiful sound was known in the 60's as "blue-eyed soul". His voice draws out emotions now, almost 60 years later, as much as it did then. Your reaction is priceless!!!
This song was written in the 50s for a movie, called Unchained, about a man in prison who was thinking about trying to escape, even though he had only a few months left to serve. He was worried that his wife might not wait for him. The movie was a flop, but this song will live forever as one of the most beautiful lovesongs in history. The studio recording became a big hit in 1965. This live version is even better with the more dramatic ending. The studio version became a big hit again in 1990 as the theme song in the movie, Ghost. The younger generation hadn’t heard it before. After my teenaged daughter saw the movie in 1990, she freaked out when the song came on the car radio. I told her it was an old song from when I was close to her age. She sighed as she said, “They don’t make them like they used to.”She’ll be 49 in February and still owns the same Righteous Brothers Greatest hits CD that I do.
Bobby Hatfield sang the full range of tenor through countertenor which many mistake as falsetto. It wasn't for him, that was part of his natural range. If you watch his jaw as he sings he is totally relaxed which is why he could do those effortless runs and hit those notes. Also, he had a cold and was worried about hitting that note at the end. And his mom was in the audience and had never heard him perform live before. Total perfection and pure talent, no auto-tune. This is better than the studio recording that played on the radio. This song was also used in the movie Ghost with Patrick Swazi, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg (if you don't cry you're not human).
Awww, the late Bobby Hatfield. I'm 74 yrs old and fell in love with the Righteous Brothers. They are so awesome! I still ply their music in my car. I have their vinyl record albums in my collection. Love these guys!!! RIP Bobby! 💖💖💖
I am 70 and also do have many of Bobby and Bill's vinyl records. This live version of the song is even better than the recorded version!!!! Bobby sang great and was gorgeous. I was so sad when I heard about his death in the hotel in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he and Bill were about to do a show. R.I.P., Bobby, and thanks so much for the music !!
Another version of this video has Bobby (this singer) and his partner Bill talking with the host of this show. They bantered back and forth then Bobby said he would do this solo. This performance was from the Andy Williams show in 1965. I actually watched this when it was on originally. They aren't actually brothers. They got the name from a audience member at one of their early performances. This person went up to Bill and said "That was righteous, brother!" And so, their name was born. Thank you for your reaction, I love it when the younger generation gets a taste of the music I grew up with. Check out other songs from this duo - they are experts in pulling on the heart strings.
They got their name in Santa Ana, CA at a place called John's Black Derby. A black Marine from El Toro Marine Base at the end of their fist set yelled out, "That was righteous brothers." Then other Marines started to greet them in kind by saying things like, "Here comes the Righteous Brothers."
@@michaelmarrone8753 Thank you for posting the correct history to their name. Most people say a show and an audience member, but it's more nuanced than that, and you explained it very well and historically accurate.
Bobby Hatfield was one of the greatest singers ever. He did this great song by himself When he teams up with Bill Medley they belt out great songs as You Lost that Loving Feeling Soul and Inspiration For once in my Life, Little Latin Lupe Lu and The Night Time is the Right Time. Best success on yr channel
It's the most nostalgic American love song ever, because he's confessing his love by telling his lady he's lonely for her God speed your love to me....wow
My Lady and I were born in 65 so yes I am OLD. Our greatest memory together was dancing to this at our first high school dance. I moved her hair as we were swaying and got hit for it. My Ladies braids were new and still hurting and I learned quick there's a time and a place for touching my Ladies hair. We still dance every New Years Eve in our kitchen to many songs like this. We wish the best for our grandchildren that they never lose touch with real singers and music that brings couples together. Music removes so many barriers and brings people together. I had to mention that because I've learned to appreciate what my Lady does to remain Beautiful, too few men today appreciate what woman do for us. So I make it a point to put on this music, hold her close and lose myself. Maybe others music will move you this way and I look forward to seeing you appreciate. Simon and Garfunkel first then Disturbed's version of "SOUNDS OF SILENCE" please? You are in my prayers Hoka Hey
I remember hearing this song in the 60s. I've always loved it. The song was highlighted in the 1990 movie Ghost starring Patrick Swayze, Whoopi Goldberg and Demi Moore. Ironically three days after I saw the movie in the theater, I was involved in an accident and had to be revived twice in the O.R. Hearing this song always takes me back to that time.
Really like your reaction. Bobby Hatfield owns this song many people have performed it but it is HIS ALONE!!!VERY EASILY THIS COULD BE THE BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL ERA ...JUST OUTSTANDING, SPECTACULAR!!!
First time on your channel and I enjoyed your reaction, Ashley! I will check out what else you have done before recommending any songs/bands! Best of luck to you with your channel!
I was 5 years old when this record was released and i remember my 4 older sisters repeatedly playing it on our old mono record player all of them swooning away to his voice 🤩🤩great memories. loved your reaction to this one.
This song is about a man while he is in prison, and his love is what keeps him going while serving his time. This was recorded in 1965 without any electronic enhancement. This is just Bobby Hatfield, his magnificent voice, and the microphone.
When The Righteous Brothers (Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley) were recording an album, each of them would sing one song solo on the album. Both of them wanted to sing “Unchained Melody”. They flipped a coin to resolve the issue, and Hatfield won the coin toss.
There were two guys but not actual brothers, with Bobby Hatfield, singing solo here, His partner Bill Medley had left the stage just seconds before this live performance begins. This was one of Bobby's solos so he wasn't going to have hinself stand there looking stupid while Bobby did his solo magic. Their albums consisted mainly of duets, but usually each singer had a solo track, with Unchained Melody being one of Bobby's.
When the most greatest performance of all time, he was only 25 on this day. He had a chest cold and a head cold not to mention that he had his mother out watching it in the audience see him sing for the first time talk about pressure.
Many have tried this-including ELVIS and NONE can hold a candle to Bobby's version here... it's from GHOST-- but this is THE best version- PERIOD. the other "brother" didn't want to sing on this and it's good he didn't- it would have ruined it..
The Righteous Brothers consisted of Bill Medley (not seen in this video) and Bobby Hatfield (who performed "Unchained Melody" solo). The two of them together are phenomenal, and were one of the most important singing duos of the '60s. Check out their breakout hit, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" and "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration." Their first big hit was a rock 'n roll song written by Bill called "Little Latin Lupe Lu." There's also another song that Bobby sang solo called "Ebb Tide." Bobby died in 2003 shortly after the duo was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Today, Bill still performs under the name Righteous Brothers with a partner named Bucky Heard, but as much as he may try, Bucky can't carry Bobby's songbook.

All reactors just start moving to this song …this became the anthem of our soldiers in Vietnam to their wives and girlfriends hoping they’d still be waiting for them when…if…they came home. Most women live slow dancing to this still to this day…especially with someone special…
This is when music was actually sung by Singers,no Auto Tune mic's,and no Lip sinc,my childhood right there, most heartfelt version is in the movie Ghost
That makes me feel sooo old😂 this was my parents generations music but everyone I ever knew absolutely knew this group and definitely this song, it’s an all time classic. It’s so cool to see a young woman listening to and appreciating this old school good music. Please keep it up, I’ve been liking your channel!
I was born in 55 in an olde worlde village. Loneliness in my bedroom with a radio taught me love of music! I became a skinhead and loved ska!!! But my ears have always been open and this tune is the most honest and perfect I have ever heard. Tunes like this only ever come around so infrequently we commonly just miss them. This is a once in life lyric!
Ashley! Yes awesome to see u branching out with new Artists. They have plenty others 🔥 songs ! A whole different time in the music world! So check out Tom jones I can’t help falling in love with you 1964 version! 🔥 voice is so powerful and just raw no auto tune ! Music was so beautiful back then! Definitely react to You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling… And there’s two brothers and the other brother said he didn’t think this song would be a hit so he didn’t do it…
It was a joke. They both did solos throughout their career together. Bill actually produced and played piano and did the background vocals for the studio recording.
The duo The Righteous Brothers - Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield - got their name, when performing in front of a Black audience, someone in the crowd remarked, "Man, them are some RIGHTEOUS brothers!" and the name stuck. Bobby Hatfield is soloing here, but you hear Bill Medley singing "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" with Bobby Hatfield singing harmony.
First time visiting your channel, and it won't be the last; 😁😇 Bobby Hatfield (this singer), and his partner Bill Medley were not literally brothers, just performing partners. Please add my suggestion (more like begging like a dog, lolllllll 🤣😂) that you react to their next masterpiece called "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", which is described as the most played song (in media like radio) of the 20th century! 😁 Happy, Blessed New Year to you and your lovely family 👼😊🥂🍾💐
This came from the Andy Williams tv show and there was an intro with both of the Righteous Brothers (unrelated) and it was quite funny! As explained below, this was the sound track from a movie "Unchained". The singer in the movie soundtrack was a bad opera singer, but two different baritones, Al Hibler and Roy Hamilton made records that were very good in 1955. They were the best - until Bobby Hatfield made his version in 1965. It becane my favorite! The Hatfield version made a huge comeback in 1990 in the Movie "Ghost". You also need to review the Righteous Brothers - You've Lost that Loving Feeling.
Even British radio host Jimmy Young,in his earlier singing days had a No.1 hit in Britain with Unchained Melody in 1955(maybe 1956). Other famous artists who did versions just on albums include Andy Williams,Elvis Presley,Cliff Richard,Rick Nelson and Jerry Keller-there are many versions🤔
@@alangould1465 Did you know that the movie "Unchained" starred Elroy Hursch (sp?). Elroy aka Crazy Legs Hursch was a running back for the Las Angeles Rams. He did not do a bang up job. You Tube has a video called "the history of unchained melogy" that is great@
Lady, this was recorded when singers could "sing". Few today can duplicate these songs. Notice the ease with which he hits those high notes. The Righteous Brothers was a duo. The other member - Bill Medley was off camera.
There's another artist who has some truly amazing vocals...you should do a reaction to Jay Black doing Cara Mia on a 2001 and/or 2011.He was known as " the VOICE". . .He has an INCREDIBLE SET OF PIPES ALSO
I sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Uniform.
I'm going on 67 this summer, love watching the young people react to some of the old music. All the best on your channel! Got to check out more righteous brothers and being a Italian I would really like you check The Guess Who or Trooper. Great music in the '60s and '70s. Just so you know he wasn't the first to sing that song. The first one was in 1955 look it up.
Bobby Hatfield is the tenor, Bill Medley is the Baritone. Bobby does Unchained Melody as a solo and always has. They are not brothers. They are amazing and I sung their music in a band when I was in College in the 1970's. I sung Bobbies voice the high tenor Lol....Thank you for your wonderful reaction. ...your heart is so full of love and tenderness. Many Blessings!
Composed by the multi-Academy Award Winning Composer Alex North with lyrics by Hy Zaret for the (1955) prison movie "Unchained." Hence the title of the song. It was first sung in the movie by Todd Duncan who was an Afro-American Opera singer, Broadway and movie actor. He later would go on to be a college professor. Ten years later in (1965) and 58 years ago on the 'The Andy Williams Show." Bobby Hatfield of "The Righteous Brothers" along with the Orchestra would give a performance that was one for the ages. history.
The song plays in the movie ghost starring demi Moore and Patrick Swayze . They are not brothers....Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield... Bobby just sang this one
they are not really brothers this is bobby hatfield and the other brother is bill medley , they sometimes do solo performances with out the other one singing. next song should be (YOU LOST THAT LOVING FEELING) they both sing in this one
Bobby Hatfield died at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan on November 5, 2003. He was found by Bill Medley and the Righteous Brothers' road manager Dusty Hanvey. A security guard let them into Hatfield's room after he had failed to show up at the concert venue when expected. He apparently died in his sleep, hours before a scheduled Righteous Brothers concert. In January 2004, a toxicology report concluded that cocaine use had precipitated a fatal heart attack RIP Dear Bobby xx

This man is Bobby Hatfield and yes he is singing this as a solo performance and yes he is absolutely perfect in every way !!!!!!!!!! His other member of the band is not performing in this live version>
Bobby died at age 63 in 2003 in a hotel on tour with Bill, the other Righteous Brother, in Kalamazoo MI, just an hour from my house. I almost bought tickets. He is 25 here. this live recording is the bets recording of Bobby singing this, better than the record, and this IS live totally. the righteous brothers were one of the opening acts for the Beatles first complete long tour of the USA in August/ September 1964. they left the tour early when they found out they had a major recording contract which sent them to the top of the charts just months later with You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling...
No auto tune back then. Just great voices. If you have never reacted to this man, I would suggest these two great songs by the man who is now considered the greatest singer in the world. His mother was in the audience that night and he was so nervous because of it. Amazing.
When I hear this beautiful song I think of the movie Ghost with Patrick Swazee and Demi Moore. Go watch that movie, you will love it.
With this old style music, it was very important for the singer feels the music as well as sings it.
How could you not of heard this song lol
Beautiful smile Beautiful reaction
Sadly Bobby died from cocaine abuse but he always managed to pull himself together to perform for us
Bobby Hatfield is the tenor, Bill Medley is the Baritone.
Ten years later in (1965) and 58 years ago on the 'The Andy Williams Show." Bobby Hatfield of "The Righteous Brothers" along with the Orchestra would give a performance that was one for the ages. history.
Listen to lost that loving feeling
The song plays in the movie ghost starring demi Moore and Patrick Swayze . They are not brothers....Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield...
Bobby just sang this one
i was 17 when that song came out, and let me tell you, when you said slow dance they be melting in my arms. lol
Watching reactons to this son is basically watching a bunch of young women dreaming they had a time machine. I love it!
they are not really brothers this is bobby hatfield and the other brother is bill medley , they sometimes do solo performances with out the other one singing. next song should be (YOU LOST THAT LOVING FEELING) they both sing in this one
He is responsible for more children then a fertility clinic! ❤❤❤😂😂😂!
The very best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice rugby jersey. The collar is so easy to grab and elegantly but violently tackle you to the ground. You drop the ball. I scamper down the pitch and score points.
I miss playing in nationals.
You might like the zz top. "Delerious" song means grab motorcycle helmet. Dad is getting me to 2nd grade at 90mph.
Imagine you are slow dancing to this song and he softly sings this to you as you dance. Welcome to dating in the 60s and 70s.
This is about a man in prison wanting to know if his love will wait for him .
Bobby died young so what was the cause of death, please?
No auto tune back then.
Just great voices.
