I've always believed that THIS song, along with the song "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye, should be played for EVERY member of Congress and the Senate and EVERY world leader of EVERY country or group in the world and it should be continuously played until they comprehend and understand to LIVE by the lyrics of THOSE songs!!!! I believe that humanity has it within themselves to make John's dream come true!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
I'll never forget the morning when I was getting ready to go to school and my Mom told me John Lennon had been shot and killed during the night. I was just a kid, but it was a very dark day.
my mom called me and asjed me to sit down. i thought she was being funny but she said it again, only more sternly. So I did sit dodwn on the floor and lean against the couch. Then she said it. "John Lennon's dead." I almost passed ouit.
Was a weird time for me. I had just turned 11. Was kind of the last Santa Christmas, no more Easter Bunny. This crap is real. Reagan getting shot in 1981. The world was all crazy.
I've heard this song 3,000 times and it still moves me....and to think people during this time period just thought he was hippie freak...wonderful song for the ages...
Beautiful song. Great lyrics. People get all bent out of shape over the "No Religion" line, but he's talking about all the religious strife in the world. RIP John
(And, here we are in the 21st Century. Can you believe anyone would still get all bent out of shape at the mere suggestion that the universe isn’t the way the deeply superstitious ancients imagined?)
Brings a tear to my eye when i hearJohn singing Imagine and knowing that this genius was shot down in the street I wonder what else he would have achieved Rest in Peace John and thank you so much for the amazing music
John Lennon was dedicated to social causes and world peace. You need to listen to "Give Peace a Chance" and "The legend of John and Oko". He is an absolute legend, but it amazes me how these legends can so quickly be forgotten. John Lennon was killed in a senseless shooting on Dec 8, 1980. A mentally ill young man took the life of a great man - not perfect, but great for sure. I was working as a radio station DJ at the time of John's murder and was working the evening of Dec 8, 1980. This was a time when DJs were live and could pick a lot of their own music for an on air shift. I was playing one or two Lennon songs every hour in memory of a legend. It blew me away when a young person called the station and asked me "Who is John Lennon and why are you playing all of his music tonight?". I lost a little hope in humanity at that moment.
You got to the heart of the song right away, Ashley. Those are enduring themes that will always hold a powerful allure for people. Now we've just got to get ourselves there. ❤
Still the greatest song ever written about achieving peace on Earth. A classic track that will never fade. Also, in a longer version of the video, he and the woman next to him at the piano (his wife) kiss at the very end.
Keep up the good work young lady. So glad that you are listening to the music I grew up with. I was born in 1965 and am compelled to offer you an other beautiful avenue to go down. The band is Yes. The song is, And You and I. Their music is complex and beautiful. Give a listen, know that you will very much enjoy. 😊
In the1980's I was working in schools and one day they played this throughout the United States across the country at the same time. Anyone could tune in and listen. I remember it playing throughout the school.
The sentiment of this song is powerful. There can never be unlimited freedom. While some people get their adrenaline rush from base jumping or racing cars, there are those who get their kicks from harming others, so we can't allow them the freedom to do what they want. Freedom is a concept that has to have limits. As we see on the streets around the world right now we have a religious group who want to annihilate an entire race and force their idiology upon the world. Religion has always been a major contributor of war and unrest throughout history and John is basically saying that we'd be better off without it. I have to agree with his philosophy. ✌️❤️🇬🇧
I remember the tears in my mother's eyes when I told her of the death of Mr. Lennon. Although she knew very little of him or the Beatles, she knew the importance of this great man.
I was in bed while my father was watching MNF. They announced it, and my mother was crying loudly. I was like John Lennon, who was he. Then, later, of course, I became a huge Beatle fan.
Rock songs used to be short because the advertisers would not allow more than 3 minutes between commercials. Songs had to be short enough to fit into the radio stations format.
The Beatles stretched that by the end of the 60s into 6-8 minutes. In the 70s, whole albums would be played by certain stations with minimal commercials. In the 90s, radio stations nationwide were failing commercially with the advent of the internet.
John Lennon's "Imagine" was release when the Vietnam war was kind of winding down, but it was still almost 200,000 souls over there whit that said, here's three Beatles song you might like😁 "All You Need Is Love" (1967) and "The Long and Winding Road" (1971) "A Day in The Life" (1967)
theme ur talking about is the anti-war movement .. there was cold war... vietnam.. etc .. people stood up society was againsti it all :D.. its how woodstock was made ..
I remember when this first came out and how beautiful it seemed. Looking back however, I see it as just a dream, absolute fantasy. It's kind of like communism, beautiful dream but it denies reality. There unfortunately is evil in the world, and although it's not what we want, it is what we have. Imagine this, what if we lived like there was a heaven and there was a hell, and you couldn't just live hedonistically for today. But, what you did today mattered for eternity. How much more loving would the world be? How much more peace would we seek? That was always the trouble with John, I hope he at peace now.
You still haven’t reached the level he did. And no, I will not live “as if” there was a “heaven” or “hell”. That would be actual active delusion. I will live as what is actually is. That is not “hedonism”, that is the truth, as hard or damned near impossible as it may be to do. You may say that he’s a dreamer, but he’s not the only one.
He’s more thinking about what causes conflict; nationality, religions, possessions. Get rid of those and there would be peace. Difficult to do though; being in a family, then a neighbourhood, town, country; it’s sort of who you are. The obvious one to go would be religions and gods. Such a problem in the world, it a thing babies don’t know of, all ‘taught’ by adults. If you could get a generation without religion; but then, religion is a power base, a way to manipulate, so someone will always create new ones
One of the greatest music legends there ever was. We will always love you,John.
One of the most beautiful songs ever!!! Written from the heart ♥️ ❤!!!!

This man, he gave his life in support of PEACE. And he’s still loved today. Rest in peace John Lennon.❤

I had to pass right near The Dakota that Tuesday morning on the way to high school. A tragedy that I will never ever forget.
Was a weird time for me. I had just turned 11. Was kind of the last Santa Christmas, no more Easter Bunny. This crap is real. Reagan getting shot in 1981. The world was all crazy.
That was a message song. John Lennon was a unique individual when it came to his music especially after he left the Beatles.
This song always gives me comfort.✌️ Thanks.
I've heard this song 3,000 times and it still moves me....and to think people during this time period just thought he was hippie freak...wonderful song for the ages...
Some people. Many of us knew he was gifted.
This song always gives me chills from head to toe 🥹
Beautiful song. Great lyrics. People get all bent out of shape over the "No Religion" line, but he's talking about all the religious strife in the world. RIP John
The very fact that they get all bent out of shape is precisely the point.
🧠
(And, here we are in the 21st Century. Can you believe anyone would still get all bent out of shape at the mere suggestion that the universe isn’t the way the deeply superstitious ancients imagined?)
He was right. Religion is full of rules and regulations. The relationship we have with Jesus is what’s important.
@@karynmitchell2509 you missed the bit about no heaven... therefore no god, no jesus...
You've got 'the message' John Lennon intended to spread, Ashley.
Good for you!
Brings a tear to my eye when i hearJohn singing Imagine and knowing that this genius was shot down in the street I wonder what else he would have achieved Rest in Peace John and thank you so much for the amazing music
Yes, imagine a world where we all took care of one another, and simply loved each other. Imagination is real. ❤
John Lennon was a phenomenal human being. There is a Gr8 version of this track by Living Colour's Corey Glover.

I was lucky enough to live in California and get close to his Hollywood walk of Fame star thousands of us sang this on his Bday
Still the greatest song ever written about achieving peace on Earth. A classic track that will never fade. Also, in a longer version of the video, he and the woman next to him at the piano (his wife) kiss at the very end.
I think she cut it off before they kissed, some reactors do.
Ashley is a beautiful person.
This made me cry and gave goosebumbs

Will always be a beautiful song 💜
John Lennon from the Beatles was a master writer of songs. Gone to soon. He was only 40 years old when he was gunned down. The world cried!
you are a smart girl who listen, best wishes from a Norwegian .......
In the1980's I was working in schools and one day they played this throughout the United States across the country at the same time. Anyone could tune in and listen. I remember it playing throughout the school.
Maybe we could start with "nothing to kill or die for". Just a thought
Love this
Exactly.
get rid of fictitious RELIGION too. C
I like the fact that you're common cold and you don't keep stopping the video and you're very beautiful 💯❤️😉 you're blessed
Also I think your audience is more fans of old school R&B. We love to see your "old soul" come out
Oh you are so pretty too 😍
Always liked the message of the song. My favorite version to listen to, was done by Tracie Spencer.
The sentiment of this song is powerful.

I was in bed while my father was watching MNF. They announced it, and my mother was crying loudly. I was like John Lennon, who was he. Then, later, of course, I became a huge Beatle fan.
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people living life in peace. Please send this song to the middle east.
You missed the sweet kiss at the very end.
Imagine there's no heaven... and then describes Heaven...
The World needs Peace.
HAPPY ( the Theme song from LADY SINGS THE BLUES ) by Micheal Jackson from 1973 is a beautiful song to check out ❤️❤️❤️
Forrest Gump gave John the inspiration to some of the lyrics during the interview. 😂😂😂 Great song

Yeah a beautiful soul and then a jerk murders him! My favorite solo song of his is "Watching the Wheels". The Beatles! British invasion!
Hello ashlley
If this spoke to you, listen now to the Pentatonix cover. They elevate it to a higher level.
You missed the sweet ending when they hug and kiss!
Eterno Jhon Lenon um gênio da música morto por um fã maluco
Now listen to Don't look back in anger by Oasis 😱🤯
If you haven't heard it, you should listen to Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire.

Nice song, a classic. Now listen to Steely Dan's rebuttal to that song "Only a Fool Would Say That". I guess they didn't get along.

You missed the kiss at the end❤
You missed John and Yoko's kiss at the end
🧡
🤝👍🙏👏👏👏
I like God (the song)
Beautiful song. Reflects mans yearning for God's promised world wide kingdom that will rule over the whole earth. Daniel 2:44. Revelation 21:3-5.

He was describing Heaven
as long as it's Your God, and Your heaven, right?
@@CharlesOrion nope, everyone worships something, to deny that is to deny the human condition. Nice idea, but It just doesn't work.
i AM able to just be. I have no religious believes. It makes life easier.

This is the song that got John killed
That's why we lost him....this did not fit the agenda
. . . And then "they" killed him. . . . .
Would you believe this is Trumps favorite song?
And no religion too...
you should be my girlfriend.
I hope to imagine a world where I never have to listen to this song again. Love Lennon but this song borders on just silly.
To much for your brain to handle?LOL
silly woke song
