You are right that we don't hear music like this today. What is missing is the romance and beauty of beautiful lyrics sung simply. The artists did not look sloppy as it was important to look put together and elegant. The Motown artists all looked svelte as well. The talent spoke for itself.

All the ladies melt when they hear "Baby, baby, you don't love me, like you used to do." There's not auto-tune or any other artificial crap in this recording, just talent.

Im 61 years old, born in 63 and my Mom agreed 100 percent with you Ashley, the ladies LOVED these guys. She said the first time she heard the "Baby baby, I'll get down on my knees for you" followed by "If you would only love me like you used to do, yeah" she thought she had gone to heaven. She also thought if you dont i will. These guys were all about talent, style and class.

OMG, these are the guys that I listened to as teenager! They were awesome and handsome! We went crazy over their music. Those voices and lyrics melted us. Love, love, love them. I'm 74 yrs snd still pay their CD'S in my car. ❤️❤️❤️

They got their name from the Black Marines at El Toro base. After a song or the performance they yelled out "That was righteous, Brothers!" The name stuck. They actually talked about this on the Andy Williams show performance of Unchained Melody that you reacted to. That part was cut from that version of the video. What a night that must have been for the audience! This is THE most requested song on the radio in the 20th century.

You are absolutely right young lady. This was pure singing talent without all the auto-tune voice enhancements etc. of today. Many of the singers and groups had this kind of talent and I was fortunate to grow-up during this period. There was SO MUCH great music and its nice for young folks like yourself to experience this and even nicer that you appreciate it.

You mentioned more than once that they sound "Righteous" which is sort of how they ended up with that name haha. Look up the story. These guys were the kings of "Blue-eyed Soul" and were always on the radio way back when. Great voices, great songs, handsome and the tuxedos didn't hurt none either. Nice reaction. ❤☮🙏
I fell out of my chair when you said: "They really had our grannies panties". Funny! It may be true (definitely before my time) but the songs of Righteous Brothers are deeply romantic. Each soulful song is sung as if meant for a specific woman and is about the love, passion, and longing the men feel for that woman. (It’s why so many women respond to them). Everyone needs love and almost everyone wants romance. All normal men have these feelings; these songs are from an old-fashioned time when guys viewed romance as normal and understood they'd never find true love if they treated intimate relationships with women as transactional.

Women just love the part of this song when Bill Medley sings 'Baby, Baby, I'd get down on my knees for you' with that deep voice of his. We guys use to try and imitate that part of the song or go high like Bobby Hatfield when he sang 'If you would only love me like you used to do, yeah''. Great and powerful song and duo.
It just feels pure. Their voice, the emotion, the entire performance. There's nothing extra and no gimmicks.
You're correct, they're not brothers. Someone was at their performance and when they were done he stood up and said that was righteous brother. They stuck with the name since they couldn't agree with a name on their own. True story.

We grew up in the 60's and my brothers and sisters remember ALL these groups they were called "BLUE EYED SOUL" because we'd listen to them on the radio BUT when they appeared on Ed Sullivan Show or American Bandstand we saw that they were WHITE, blew black people's mind. Artist like Tina Marie, AWB, Wild Cherry appeared on Soul Train we as black people LOVED THEM!!!
This was the most radio-played song of the 20th century! As The Righteous Brothers gained national popularity, a radio DJ (in Philadelphia, I think) named their unique style "blue-eyed soul." If the quality of this video was better, you might be able to identify one of their back-up singers as a very young Cher!
Cher may have been on the recording, but there's no evidence I know of she was in the "fake choir" on the TV show
@Thomas Timlin you are correct, Cher was never a backup singer on the show. She did backup vocals on the studio recording, but she was never a backup singer on the show (Shindig).

The brothers had soul. In my old Brooklyn neighborhood a bar that I, a white guy went into, that was all black had just one record by white singers.... This was it. Such days. Such times.

It's what happens when you put two great voices and talent together with a masterfully written , arranged and orchestrated song. These guys were among my favorites in the mid/late sixties. I'm 74 and sang in a band for years, heard a lot of music and still am amazed at the Righteous Brothers music. Among the best in pop.

Another great song by them is Rock N Roll Heaven . This song is about giving tribute to some legendary singers that passed away. Very touching song.Other songs by them include: Soul& Inspiration, Ebb Tide, You'll Never Walk Alone, I Just Want To Make Love To You, just to name a few.
Thank you Ashley for your reaction. It is a fact that Bobby Hatfield (on the left here with the high voice) and Bill Medley (with the deep voice) on the right were not actual brothers. They often related how they found their stage name. It seems that they were performing in a nightclub one evening and a group of black marines came in and some expressed surprise that they were white. One of the marines shouted up "you are righteous brothers", and that became their stage name from thence forward. It should also be noted that their albums were usually a mixture of duets and solo tracks, with Unchained Melody being Bobby's alone. Of course Bill also sang solos too. Bill is still with us, and I hear still singing, but sadly Bobby left us several years ago.

I love watching reactions to this song, especially by black people. Because it reinforces my belief that there is no difference between black and white. To think that a different pigment in our skin has caused so many problems is not only sad, but mind boggling. I just wish we could all get that loving feeling.
Soul & Inspiration (corrected...ty) is another beautiful song. Also...check out their song Rock & Roll Heaven. Done in the 70s so they're a little older. Pays tribute to just a few icons (singers) that had passed.

I grew up on this music and you are correct. It was so much better than what passes for music today. Back then there was no autotune or anything like that. They actually had talent and were great singers and musicians who didn't rely on sexual lyrics or showing off their asses to get attention.

Interesting fact, Bill Medley(tall, baritone) and Bobby Hatfield(blonde suprano) got their name when they first started doing clubs and were in an all black night club. There was a table full of Marines and when they got finished performing one of those Marines told them they were "Rightous" brothers because of their soulful sound, which later was dubbed as blue eyed soul. There was no auto tuning back then so what you hear is their actual voices. Bobby, the blonde guy, never had any formal training. Bobby learned how to sing all by himself. As many artist, like Elvis, did back then.
That’s blue eyed soul at its very finest. For some black artists from that era try Jackie Wilson sing “Lonely Teardrops “. Or Nancy Wilson singing “Girl it’s over” as she tells her best friend that the relationship she is in is over but she just doesn’t see the signs….I watch reaction videos often and you did an outstanding job.

Yes, they had us grannies sliding off our couches every week. Bill with his eyes the color of the Pacific Ocean and Bobby's like a freshly painted aqua swimming pool.....and those amazing voices. This was live on the weekly show called Shindig and they edited out all the girls screaming so people could hear their voices. There are a lot of Shindig performances on video with the show's own band, backup singers and dancers. They could both let it rip and were more known for their energetic R&B with plenty of humor thrown in. They stole the show and brought the house down every week. Glad you got to experience this unbeatable duo and shared it with others your age.

Studied musicianship and artistry couldn't be faked back in the day. Today, most artists aren't learned musicians and many are more out for the payday than the love of the art. Take a lesson from that.

Ashley, when they were very first starting out they were performing under a different name. But one night while singing in a small club, and after one of their soulful songs, an audience member was so moved that he yelled out "RIGHTEOUS!!" From that point forward they were the Righteous Brothers. It's been a while and some of the details are not clear any more. But I am pretty sure this is how it went down. Love your show.

It was written by Bill Medley (the deep voiced guy) and became one of those songs that every cover band in America had to have in their repertoire. Check out "Little Latin Lupe Lu." A whole different vibe. More rock.
You should do some Pentatonix or Voiceplay or Home Free...they are amazing live and recorded. Not many people in the last 30 years sound as good or better live as they do in the studio.

"You've Lost That Loving Feeling" was THE song of my senior year in high school. It was a great time to be young and tuned into the radio while driving in the car with friends. At that time, we didn't know THIS SONG was going to turn out to be the most played song on the radio--not for the year, not for the decade, but for the entire 20th century! Also, when we first heard them, it was on the radio. We didn't know what they looked like until we saw the album cover. Then maybe, months later, we might catch a TV appearance. If you had told me then that one day, I would have a device that would enable me to watch them perform anytime I wanted to, over and over again, I would have screamed!😂 I loved watching your reaction! Enjoy this gift of music; it connects the generations!

I just watched the American Music Awards last month and only 2 artists performed live vocals...Pink and Carrie Underwood.
What great voices, what beautiful songs! They were around when I was in late teens, early twenties and never stopped loving their music.
The first song - Unchained Melody - was filmed on a TV show called "The Andy Williams Show". You got the song part but there's a longer intro where his partner is there and he gives a bit of history on the name of the group right before the song starts. So just look up "Andy Williams Righteous Brothers" and it will get you the longer version with the intro talking.
I guarantee your granny knew this group and this song as it was huge at the time.

If you like the Righteous Brothers, there are plenty of other artist with soulful singing. Try Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, Boz Scaggs, Elvis, Rou Orbison, and the list goes on.
In an interview they stated that they were doing a show down south and hadn't decided on a name for the group. At the end of their set a guy yelled out, " That was righteous brother". It sounded good to them, and Righteous Brothers became the name of the group.
They were the first concert I ever attended back in the early 60s. Great then and still amazing. They were know as having blue eyed soul. How many babies do you think were made as a result of their singing?😊 They got the name when a black marine at one of their performances stood up a yelled, "that is righteous brother".

There we so many shows called Variety shows where they featured singers, dancers, comedy and more. These are were the singers were able to perform (and sell records) but, the average person could see them when they couldn't go out and see them in concert. I don't know if you have seen Unchained Melody by them but YOU SHOULD!

Back in the 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s there was so much competition so much great music. It was tough to win a Grammy. Now everything sounds the same. There’s only a couple people with real talent and that’s why Beyoncé has 30+ Grammys.

Did you ask your granny? I was 14 or 15 when this came out. I have watched many creators' reactions and feel good to know that in listening to this ballad they were not assaulted with vulgar degradation of women and grunts for lyrics. I feel better after listening to this song than I did before. No degradation of women in this, only love.
You were an artist back then because you had intrinsic talent. It was not a manufactured or commercialized talent like today.

Sweetie, you got it right-even 60 years later-they got their name from a black crowd who after hearing them came up and said they sounded righteous, and they do. The original Blue Eyed Soul group, but don’t forget that this song was written and performed by the famous “Wall of Sound”producer Phil Spector.. its a great recording in so many ways! Even had Cher as one of the background singers on the risers in the back.
