    One of the kinda funny podcasts needs to be focused on the world of snow bike: how and where is he getting all this money? Why is he so weird with food? - We need to know.

      Lol well realistically he seems to have a very disposable income. Doesn’t have any kids and might own his car (no car payments) and may even own his house too. That can all go a long way.

      Also where did he get a snow bike and how does he stop it from melting? Is it all made of snow or does it have rubber tires? These are the burning questions I have that need a Mike special to answer them.

    I think the term cash grab gets too much flak. Like yeah, it’s trying to make money and capitalize on the show’s hype so it’s a cash grab. It also seems to be made by devs that care deeply about the IP and did some great work. It’s awesome that people who have never played will get to experience a brand new version of the game.

    IGN (via NX Gamer) uploaded their performance review and if you have a VRR display, there’s no reason not to use Fidelity Mode. Fidelity Mode with VRR gives you full 4K and a 45-50fps range which will feel silky smooth and look immaculate. This is the way to go.

      It's for those who haven't played it (lucky) and for fans that want to see the raw emotion that couldn't be made on ps3 hardware. It's really a different experience not seeing barely emotional hard edged faces from the original. Seeing the tears drip off Joel's nose in the intro hit like f-ing hammers.

  • @LowSkillPlays
    @LowSkillPlays 2 года назад +2

    I just do not understand how people can call something that is just a prettier version of an older product a "remake." The Bluepoint "remakes" certainly blurred the line between remakes and remasters for me and this does it even more. The experience of playing these games is fundamentally the same as they were when you originally played them. I think calling this a remake is just giving a win to Sony for essentially releasing the same game that came out a 9 years ago with updated visuals for $70 and it not even having the same amount of content. At least Demon's Souls looks significantly better and plays at a higher frame rate. I certainly wouldn't say the TLOU "remake" looks significantly better. It looks good, but the experience of playing it is essentially the same as it was on the PS3. I don't want to call this "lazy" but I will call it half-baked, unnecessary and absolutely a cash-grab by Sony.

    It's also important to note that The Last Of Us Part 2 came out just 2 years ago. So, Naughty Dog probably wants you to still feel the jump from Part 1 to Part 2. Meaning, if you had the gameplay in Part 1 the same as Part 2, there would be no incentive to play Part 2 again other than the story. And, as Blessing said, the gameplay of Part 1 is practically essential to the true experience of the original game. At the end of the day, these are still two very different games and I think it's still important to feel that difference, especially for those who have never played Part 1 and Part 2.

But without the awesome multiplayer. This game is a ripoff at 70$/80€. If it was $50, I may have bought it, now I'm not going to buy it until it's used in the bargain bin for $20 or less.

This is how I played Forbidden West on my new OLED and how I will play TLOU Part One. You get the full fidelity bells and whistles and 40fps feels wayyy smoother than 30. Someone else posted that IGN found the Fidelity VRR mode to offer the full 4K resolution and settings at an FPS range of 45-50. With VRR that’s gonna feel amazing and look pristine. Forbidden West does the same thing with VRR and Fidelity (they just call it balanced mode).

    My thing with The Last of Us Part 1 is… if they would have put that into PS Plus Extra day and date as an incentive to jump into that service rather than release it as a $70 title… I’d say it was a great move. But I played TLOU remastered on PS4 recently and it holds up great. I really don’t need this remake. And I just so would rather have had Naughty Dog working on something else/ something new, instead of spending time and resources on this.

      Naughty dog is working on a lot of new things. This was made by a smaller group inside ND who would have had nothing to do but wait for pre-production of the other project to end. And it was the only project that was doable in a shorter time frame thanks to already existing assets from TLOU2. An Uncharted remake would have taken a lot more time and work

    Demon Souls had access to the exact same hardware as Last of Us, Andy's assessment of value/worth feels like its punishing Naughty Dog's competence while rewarding From Software's incompetence. The only reason PS5's Demon Souls was more unanimously celebrated was because of how bad From is at making polished games compared to how good Bluepoint is. Demon Souls was also a lot more niche and TLOU as a brand has had a negative stigma online ever since part 2's leaks, a stigma that doesn't exist in the real world.
    Think about this, everyone's most anticipated re-release is PS4's Bloodborne even though all it REALLY needs is a patch, not double dipping. This isn't fair in my opinion, there needs to be a more equal measure of value, either criticize both or be fine with both. Where the conversation should've headed was whether or not these type of upgraded games need a discount for prior owners, which is probably more complicated for Demon Souls and PS3's TLOU to execute, but worth discussing none the less.

    • @TheAndyCortez
      @TheAndyCortez 2 года назад

      i'd agree with you if TLOU released in Feb 2009 with Demon's Souls but so many devs have said that early cycle PS3 games and late cycle PS3 games feel like two different eras. I'd agree with you even more if TLOU hadn't gotten a PS4 remaster.

    • @Alex_Logan22
      @Alex_Logan22 2 года назад

      @@TheAndyCortez
      The PS4 remaster is what should be criticized then (especially its price), not the remake. Also, Uncharted 2 released in 2009 and didn't have any of Demon Soul's issues. Naughty Dog has always released polished products, while From regularly struggles with optimization regardless of hardware.

    Slight misconceptions about the 1440P option on PS5. That is only for monitors that output at 1440P. The 1440P resolution in Last of Us Part 1 in the performance mode is the internal rendering resolution. The output to the console will still be 4K as is set in your PS5's settings. It's being upscaled, of course. But that is entirely unrelated to the 1440P output resolution option added to the PS5 recently. So, if you have a 1440P monitor, and a game is rendering at 4K (native), it will be downscaled to 1440P to output to the monitor. That's what the PS5 used to lack. It would have to downscale all the way to 1080P on a 1440P monitor before the recent patch.

    • @TheAndyCortez
      @TheAndyCortez 2 года назад +1

      yup! sorry i may have misspoke but that's exactly what i was talking about. i have a 1440p monitor and it would default to 1080p since Sony used to give you only 1080 or 4K.

    • @Gab1s16
      @Gab1s16 Год назад

      It does make sense given that majority of the people you kill are hunters that don’t give a rats ass about anyone, even their own. By the end you are just mowing down fireflies that there really isn’t enough time for them to care about the people they know that are dying. In Part 2 they establish that the Wolves are a tight knit community that go out on runs together in the same groups. It was implemented in Part 2 for a number of different reasons. To put it in Part 1 would have just been to copy what they did in Part 2 and not really to push the story or narrative forward. Also Joel doesn’t give a FUCK about anyone in Part 1. He’s a hardened person that has killed probably thousands of people in the last 20 years. In Part 2, Ellie was going down that same path. So the names being yelled out was also put there to show how killing the way she is, would be affecting her mentally and emotionally. Which is what Joel more than likely went through as well after outbreak day.

    One of the biggest issues that modern gaming has. is we play a game once and throw it away. Games are forever. you don't need to beat it in a day. As long as your still alive you can play a game for the next 50 years. Reviews are based on people forced to beat it as fast as possible. Regular gamers can just take there time.

    @AdelaideBen1 2 года назад

    I'm a little shocked... if Andy thinks that a "remake" just means new models... re-factoring new models onto existing engines takes only a moderate effort... it's not easy, but compared to a "re-imagining"... it's miles apart. There's little difference between re-texturing and re-modelling. The engine does most of the work once you create the assets. I also wonder... how many re-masters have you looked at in this perspective. IMHO - I'm sure this is a great version of the game... but it's fundamentally the same game. It's a re-master... it's just that Naughty Dog / Sony spent a crap-tonne of money up-dating the engine, when they didn't need to. I've seen through the DF analysis, and to be honest, NO ONE looks at games in the way they analyse. People play games, and react naturally. People don't think ... "wow look at that indirect lighting", or "wow look at lack of light bleed"... they get lost in games, and adsorbed in the world that is created... and the world is almost exactly the same (with relatively minor upgrades to the core - but with major upgrades to the underlying visuals and especially in cut-scnenes).
    And yes I agree with Andy - no dodge, no buy. Re-makes shouldn't be about about updating visuals (that's why I disagree with Bless' view on Shadow of the Colossus). Re-makes should be about taking the things that were stuck in the past and updating them (not just the graphics). The point is that this is EXACTLY the same game but with some flashier graphics and some more advanced AI overlays. This may be the best version... but WhyTF wouldn't it be? Hell - if this wasn't better than a PS4 remaster, then the world is truly down the tube. The question should be - is this contemporary... and the fact they really didn't change the game means a BIG NO FOR ME.
    It's a legend of a game - but it's still the same game... and not worth full-price without an upgrade option.

    Xbox main. I bought Last of Us Part 1 at full price. I played the OG remaster about a year ago, before playing part 2. Then sold my ps5 after the fact. Just bought a ps5 again for exclusives (Kotor, final fantasy, spiderman etc) and of course for the last of us. Don't regret it. 10/10. Still have ps5 for exclusives.

    People who complain about paying a full price to do the same thing were silent on Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Collosus. Exact same games at full price. Don't want to pay? Don't. Wait. Get it for cheaper. Personally TLOU was and IS one of my favorite games of all time.

    I had a few moments of companion characters moving out into enemy view than before but never as much. Neither part 1 or 2 was 100% on that. Still room to grow with AI on that front.
    The enemies though...Holy F-bomb are they smarter on harder on grounded. They will flank the shit out of you and flush you out. It's so much harder than the OG or remaster. Also the stalkers I never even knew were a different enemy type in the OG or remastered until part 2 and now with this remake. That hotel basement is even more horrifying.

  • @BaneOfMan
    @BaneOfMan 2 года назад

    Dodging wouldn't have added much. A few extra animations they already had with part 2. Prone, they would've needed a level redesign. There was nothing in the OG that required prone. The dodge would've been an easy fix in comparison. Part 1 made melee a last ditched effort instead of a usable solution that part 2 allowed.

    I'm going to buy this game on steam to play it on the steam deck and for mods. I played TLOU at least 8 or 9 times all the way through most of those play through on the ps3 I really think the game should not have been $70 for what it is compared to other remakes. But being able to play it on a portable system I'd pay that to bad its not on a Sony handheld 😔

    You have no credibility when talking about the cost of a game, we know you got this for free and that you don't pay for anything, but at least you didn't have a sponsored segment about a device no one will ever use paid for by Tencent. 2/5

    No hate, I cannot comprehend how and why this game receives the love that it does. In my opinion, there is literally not one new idea or concept explored in this game.
    I mean, if you like it, you like it. For me personally, a plethora of games do many things better than Last of Us.

    As a product, it is not 10/10, it does not have the same contentas the original - with the same 70 dollar pricetag, the multiplayer is missing. Personally i think it is pretty greedy product and i am not convinced to say that it is a full remake.

    Great review guys. Confirmed my expectations that this would be a big graphical upgrade but not too much else.
    The Last Of Us 1 and 2 are two of my favourite games ever so to me, like a classic movie/book/record it doesn’t need to be anything more than it is . It’s worth the asking price to me but if anyone is even a bit hesitant then it sounds like it’s going to be better to wait for the inevitable sale and get it then (which is good advice for games in general, not just a remake like this) or not but it at all.
    I’m in the UK so wasn’t able to buy the USA exclusive physical Firefly Edition but if it was available here, I would have bought that because I love the game so much. I wouldn’t do it for every game or every remake but similar to how Greg has mentioned in the past that he would sometimes buy DLC whether he intended to play through it or not just as a way of saying thank you to a developer for an experience he enjoyed this is what I feel like I’m doing here. I don’t need to buy or replay The Last of Us Part 1 but I want to so I can show my gratitude to Naughty Dog for giving me another excuse to play through this amazing game. And hopefully platinum this version too 🏆
    Would I prefer it if was cheaper? Yes of course! But you could say that about everything (especially these days) but I don’t see it as a cash grab personally. Nobody needs to buy this or indeed any game ever! If you want it, buy it. If you don’t, then don’t. If you’re not sure it’s worth it, wait for the sale or don’t buy it at all and play the Remaster for free via PS Plus. Or don’t play it at all and play something else 🤷‍♂️

    I haven’t played through the game, and if this had the remastered Factions mode, I’d probably drop the cash on this-but since the PS4 version is free, I don’t think I’ll pay $70 for the visual upgrade. It really makes me appreciate Game Pass all the more since this is the type of first-party game that should be on PS Premium day one.

    The last of us a MASTERPIECE, one of the greatest games I've ever played. No one in their right mind would have thought this remake wouldn't get 10/10, 9/10. 5/5 type masterpiece level reviews, which it should. The problem with this game is them charging 70 dollars for a game that still runs super well. 50 dollars I think would be the perfect price point for a game like this and after everything sony has been doing recently, it just another tactic is squeezing ever since penny they can from their consumers while they make record profits. All of their marketing to for this game just seemed like them making excuses for them charging 70 dollars. I will 100% get this game once it drops to 30-40 because I'd love to play this game again, especially in a beautiful PS5 upgrade but let's call a spade a spade, Sony is getting the MO of becoming super anti-consumer and making super grimy decisions. Jim Ryan is doing everything opposite it seems of Shawn Layden and this can have long term effects for them imo.

    I’d rather put $70 towards a new game/story like God of War Ragnarok. Last of Us part 1 is definitely a masterpiece and i won’t argue that BUT for me it’s not worth $70 as I’m someone who has purchased the game twice and played the same game on ps3 & the remastered version on PS4. Will wait for this to be on sale or on PS plus to play on my ps5. $70 could be worth it for first time players and for those who will get into this franchise for the first time coming from the HBO series they have coming up. Excited for this those that get to play this for the first time though!

    I call some games that feel in between "Remake" & "Remaster" : Remakesters, if that makes sense. There is just so many variables going on that make the new game the way it is that are considered under both categories. It is hard to just say it is one or the other. I cannot wait to dive into this version of the game and experience Naughty Dogs rebuild of the world.
