Also, I don't know if someone has mentioned it before but I love the little detail of Kratos putting the Draupnir ring on his right hand ring finger. I know Christianity and Orthodox Christianity wasn't around during the ancient world and Sparta as a city-state but still, at least to me, it gave a real nice touch of symbolizing him accepting the spear as a part of him (literally made with his blood), in a way showing a "marriage" with said weapon (as Orthodox Christians wear their wedding ring on the right ring finger). Might be overthinking it on my part but it does add a nice character development detail for Kratos.

This was fun and interesting, but like a few of the spoilercasts now, they barely discussed story spoilers. Ex., Angrboda was brought up, but nothing on spoilers for her character, history, her using Fenrir etc., only level design philosophy and what they were looking for in her VA.
I think of the dozen or so story aspects I was hoping would be discussed the only thing brought up was “who blew the horn?” And it was brushed off.
Dude, Odin, nothing on the final battle, his plans, not a single word about the mask, the big reveal of him as Tyr was barely discussed. Nothing about boss battles, why dragons are enemies and not allies again for some reason, nothing about Faye or her fight with Thor, her destroying Atreus’ mural, her relationship with Brok and the rebellion, nothing about Brook’s soul stuff, nothing about Sindri’s rage at the end, nothing about real Tyr other than yeah he’s alive. No talk whatsoever about the prophecy and that being overturned, or not, Atreus holding Odin instead of Kratos!!
Edit: I get why none of this is brought up as compared to 2018’s spoilercast which was all in, they must’ve asked Kinda Funny ahead of time to soft ball it and not ask too much about some of those. There must’ve been a pre-show meeting lol. I know Greg wanted to ask a ton of that stuff.

IGN has a spoiler cast with Eric out and I found that way more informative in the same amount of time. The problem is that this was more of an interview about the making of, rather than a spoiler cast. Also MinnMax is doing a Deepest Dive on Ragnarok that’s a nice book club like experience which has been nice to listen to even after beating the game.

Finished the mainline story last night, and came right to this video. Really enjoyed the discussion, as makes you appreciate what a monumental piece of work this was for the team. Kudos to all of them for their efforts!
As for the game itself, I have some mixed feelings coming out of it. It is incredibly fun to play, and the moment to moment gameplay is such a ride. The story didn't always hit, but I feel that was also due to my playstyle where I took big breaks from the main story to spend a lot of time on the excellent side content. It really helped flesh out the world and lore, but took away from the urgency of the main story.
The Atreus solo sections were fine, as I thought they were good for progressing the story. However, unlike the KF guys, I just did not enjoy playing the character as much. His controls were different and novel, however I felt like every combat set piece with him was pretty basic to account for his simpler combat style. It meant every encounter was relatively dull to get through, before getting to the next story beat. Again, I can appreciate what the team were doing, but it just wasn't as fun.
Those are minor criticisms though, because this is still such a monumental game and I'm looking forward to going through the post-credit story. As well, looking forward to whatever Eric and team put out next!

It is one of the best features of the game for immersion. I know it was prob a pain in the ass but dam it worked out well over both games.

This game, man. So fucking good.
I keep describing it in my head as the most emotional game I've ever played, and not just because it got me teary-eyed and crying, but also because it made me laugh, HARD, and frequently at that. In several moments, those different emotions were separated by mere minutes. And in the scene that Eric talks about at 1:06:20, I laughed and cried at the same time because it was just so *perfect* played against everything that I'd spent the last 50 or so hours playing.
Brilliant game, one for the ages.

It is a testament to how damn incredible SMS is to really make me feel like…I cannot tell I was ‘missing’ out. I don’t think this is a ‘last gen’ game it’s just the sum of all its parts. The story from the jump, every cinematic, the characters…you are in this world from minute 1. I don’t know if I even want another GOW after this, maybe in 6 years I’ll feel different but I really hope that the most we get is a story character DLC and then these characters rest, they have earned it

This is one of not just greatest games I’ve ever played, it’s also the best sequel/conclusion to a saga I have ever seen on screen!
I cried no less than 4 times at this game, both at heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. And now we have seen not only Atreus/Loki grow into his own, we have seen Kratos finally do something I thought impossible…..open his heart not just for his wife and son, but to the world. The moment he breaks down after seeing his tryptic shrine and sees that he becomes not just the new All-Father but a good and loving god I cried just as hard with him.
Thank you Corey Barlog, Eric Williams and all the great geniuses behind making this game. I will treasure it always.😭😭😭👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

For the people that say that Thor didn't kill Kratos in their first fight but instead knocked him out: 1. Kratos's health dropped to 0%, 2. It showed the literal death screen and 3. The game director confirmed that Thor brought Kratos back to life in this interview: ruclips.net/video/KLmZvFuPHYo/видео.html so no Thor didn't knock Kratos out he flat out killed him and revived him using his hammer and before people say that Kratos was holding back I know but it is still a huge feat when you consider that neither Magni, Modi or even Baldur could do anything to a holding back Kratos.

In GOW3 all the weapons were similar to the chaos blades and were still fun to use. I could see a bigger issue being stuff like why wouldn’t Kratos then use Mjolnir to get everywhere then as a reason not to have it. It’s a small letdown imo since it’s arguably the most iconic mythological weapon, but one I got over pretty quick. the thing about this game and the question I'm sad I didn't get to ask is Thor and Odin as reflections of Kratos and Atreus. Thor is what Kratos used to be. He is the direct cause of possible the most damage of anyone in the Norse realm but similar to Greek era Kratos and how they talk about him Thor isn't fully in control of his violence. his actions are being directed by Odin pretty clearly. to the point where at the end of the game when Thor says no that he doesn't want to cause violence on behalf of his father Odin can't even process it. the idea that Thor is something he can't control has never occured to him and because of that lack of control he immediately just goes to kill Thor without any second thoughts.
Then Odin is obviously the father Kratos is desperately avoiding being in these games. It's a worst case scenario for how he could end up with sending his son to fight his battles. It's not something I see Kratos ever actually falling to but it still acts as a cautionary tale for him.
oh also Cory has confirmed that shovel knight is canon to god of war. their meeting takes place after Kratos has left Greece but before he is in Scandinavia.

    • @X5J2UY
      @X5J2UY Год назад +2

      Such an interesting perspective.
I actually always thought that Thor was the direct reflection of Kratos, but without trying to change or going against his father. Basically different sides of the same coin.
Both have been manipulated by their fathers and have done terrible acts of destruction (Kratos killing his family, destroying Greece; Thor murdering most Giants and forcing the rest to disappear and other things), both have a deep trauma rooted in that past and both struggled at being a good father for most of their lives.
But Kratos decided to change and open himself up, while Thor lost himself in alcohol and accepted his role as Odin's executioner.
