Uh oh, I hope you don't get destroyed by all the people who can't handle what you said. You know, because Abby is the anti-christ and deserves all the hate...right? :|
@Shayne kinda hard to feel sympathy for her when she murders the main character from the first game. Neil really thought he could pull off a mgs2 twist but not come anywhere near that lmao
@George Adept Exactly! I absolutely loved playing with Abby!!! I love this whole freaking game I'm glad I bought it and made my own judgment of it instead of listening to all the haters that didn't even play the game all did was watch the leaks and started shitting on the game! Then they turn around and start trying to ruin it and get other people on the hate train... so sad that people can't make their own mind up and let other people influence from that much! I love the direction Naughty Dog took! Not being safe and making a story just to pacify everybody! This game got a 9.5 from me!
I'm not upset, more like I feel sorry for them. Imagine being so mentally deficient you lack the ability to separate a fictional character from their voice actor.
I bet most of those people merely read leaks and saw cutscenes out of context and they decided they would never play the game. Then they took to the internet and threatened an ACTOR for something her FICTIONAL character did. Same with Druckmann, it’s his story and his decision to do what he wants with the characters and how he wants to write them. It’s his decision, and all the Joel flashbacks show so much respect for the character throughout the game, to see him in a positive light as Ellie’s surrogate dad. All of it is so lovingly crafted and so much of the story plays out through gameplay and so many of those great moments aren’t in cutscene at all. People need to stop seeking outrage and wanting to feel like victims and actually experience the art as it was intended. My heart goes out to Neil and Laura and I want to say fuck you to those issuing death threats for something FICTIONAL that one FICTIONAL character did to another.
Not to mention she's playing a fictional character and it's absolutely ridiculous that people respond like that to more than just this. It's always disgusting.
I was PISSED at Abby at first, and then fell in love with her. The final confrontation had me balling grown man tears. I did not want Ellie to kill Abby. Most emotional game I had ever played. It helped that I managed to avoid leaks in trailers which I tend to do for games that I know I am going to purchase.
No. I was an emotional wreck after this game. I remember after I played Abby's 3 days & they drop you & Lev at the theater I was thinking I don't want this to happen. Can we stop? Then when Abby goes after Dina. I was saying Noooo. DON'T! We need to stop this! Then when you get to the end? Anyways. My point being is this game made me care for video game characters. Which is CRAZY but also way amazing.
Laura Bailey is just incredible, both as an actress and as a person, and this interview perfectly shows that. I have loved her in pretty much everything she's been in, whether it's playing Mary Jane in Spider-Man PS4 (My personal favourite Mary Jane), Fiona in Tales from the Borderlands, Catwoman in Batman: The Telltale Series S1 & 2, Kait Diaz in Gears of War 4 & 5 or Nadine Ross in Uncharted. She's also just a warm, funny human being, as seen in Critical Role and Titansgrave. I found Abby to be the most complex character of the whole game even though a lot of people hate on her. Her story in this game perfectly mirrors Joel and Ellie's (ironically the two people she hates the most); She has Ellie's attitude as well as her need for revenge, and she's also similar to Joel in that she too is re-finding her own humanity through these young kids that she feels the need to protect. I think this game did a great job at exploring what drives her, why she's doing what she does, where she comes from and what she wants. Even if you don't sympathize or empathize with her, the game is at least making us understand her.
Great take friend. Couldn't have said it better. Sucks when a RUclipsr who's opinion you normally agree with is saying "Abbey is evil this game is bad," it's just more complex than that.
Not gonna lie, it was a tough week after finishing the game, the characters were in my head for a long time. I understand that grief never goes away, but after that week I set my peace with Abby and all the characters, the performances, the stories, all of it is amazing and deeply sad at the same time. Amazing!
Why does she sound the same in every game she plays? Then she tried to blame Russian Bots for this game being called out for what it is. At least Troy Baker can change his voice to sound like other people.
@@radwimp7484 She sounds very similar in most of her games. As soon as I hear one of her characters, I instantly know it's her. I've played the majority of the titles she's in.
I, for one, am sick of the vitriol. This game held my attention and moved me more than any other game, or probably any TV series, and is up there with some of the best movies. Of course I wanted to spend more time with Joel. I hoped for something different. But something different would have been shallow compared to this. I don't play many games; I don't have the time. So if I force the time to play something, I want it to be compelling, not cheap fan service. This wasn't fan service, it took chances. It was intentionally dark and wasn't "fun". But I didn't return to TLOU universe to have feel-good moments. The gameplay and performances were just about perfect. The narrative worked for me, even though I expected something drastically different. Just my opinion.
Well said. There are far too many gamers out there that aren't really interested in storytelling. They want to be pleased, not moved. And that's a shame for them, but is ultimately a testament to their relative immaturity.
Completely agree and its fine to personally dislike it but the blind hatred its beyond pathetic and some reviewers (cough angry joe cough) only further stoke the flames
I know that people online need to be outraged at something or other nowadays, but jesus christ the toxicity around this game was just ridiculous. Because the leaks were clearly polarizing, but they needed to be seen within context of the rest of the game, and plenty of people just refused to do that. And as for all the death threats that Laura and Neil Druckmann and the other ND staff recieved...come on people, we're better than this. And though you're conditioned to hate Abby for the first half, there are no set heroes or villains in this universe: just shades of grey. Even the first game's story makes it clear that Joel's done plenty of shitty things just to survive for another day. Abby was someone who lost her father, and though she did get her revenge within the first few hours it changed nothing for her, she still had that emptiness inside her, but she just about managed to move on by finding something else (i.e, Lev and Yara) to give her life meaning...and the consequences of said revenege got her friends killed. Really, she and Ellie aren't so different.
It would be cool to have jeffrey wright (Isaac) and shannon together since they’re both from westworld. Although they didn’t have any scenes together in the game.

I think she's a sellout that promoted pushing a political agenda that ultimately struck out. I give credit to the sound editing guys. You know the ones who really make the magic happen by clearing all the noise and making the actors heard clearly?
5 years. Jesus Christ. Imagine pouring your sweat, tears, giving your all, and having people just trash on the game and check out after the first 2 hours. This game is fucking brutal, gorgeous, different, next level storytelling. A masterpiece. Honestly don’t get the hate.
Even if someone didn’t like it, it’s worth playing at least once. After months of being stuck at home playing 1 match of fortnite a month, this game was so fun to play.
This game was really good. I was looking forward to this game the most for years. I think the reason it gets so much hate is because people don't try to understand the story they wanted to tell. For me, I wasn't satisfied in the end for numerous reason, but after some weeks of finishing the game I understood others perspectives and what they went for. I respect it, but I just wished they went about it differently. The game however does a tremendous job at storytelling and gameplay.
Just finished the game a few hours ago thank god there are other people that like the game. All the negativity surrounding this game made me lower my expectations when going into the game but after completing it I think I played a completely different game. its awesome.
Same here even after watching the negative 👎 review from Skill Up many RUclipsrs on the hate bandwagon, use his review to get more ammunition to hate. Skill Up review had some inaccuracies to it like what he said about lack of puzzles and many obstacles, an claim that there was just one boss fight? No that wasn’t true. I still respect his review and I know that this game is not for everyone, but he hated the first game so that wasn’t a surprise. I love this game from beginning to end playing both Ellie and Abby an I am so glad Ellie speared her life at the end, Abby was a changed person for the better. Ellie found here weaken and abused, it really didn’t feel right killing Abby for revenge like that. I am glad that Abby and Lev went to the Fireflies based at the end. Many people miss at the Start Menu you scene you see a boat on land. Yes Abby made it to Catalina Island 🌴
@@spiderpig9777 not true. That's just an excuse being thrown around to avoid having a discussion about all the problems with this trash story and blatant character assassinations of the first game. You people are praising this game through rose colored glasses
Man, this is the content that is needed. Tired that youtube suggest clickbaity content about TLOU 2, a game that deserves ALL the praise. Laura, your character and performance was unbeleavable! Thank you.
Completed the game yesterday, I can't believe the range of emotions this game lead me through, and Abby is a big part of it. Her backstory and the incredible journey with Lev and Yara made be love her a lot. Thank you for an incredible performance! This game is everything.
Every time i watch this inverviews, i am like " ok its a job, they are here for a paycheck , its a job". And every time i am suprised and happy that they are humans and amazing people full of passion and love to characters and work. This level of engagment cant be fake or "acting" for PR. Thank you Laura for tlou part 2. And thank you greg for giving people the opportunity to get to know this people. Thank you from Poland. Dziękuje.
Laura i believe did an amazing job, she did her part and she did it well. BUT the writing needed revision. Laura and troy did nothing wrong. They delivered like the professionals they are. Its the direction
jackyboy777666 people are too polite? Uhh did you not watch this video or the metacritic scores? More like people are too harsh when this game is easily an 8/10. There are much worse games that people didn’t hate as much. Have you ever played death stranding? That is such a boring game with terrible gameplay. TLOU2 is so fun especially on new game +.
The game was incredible. It's really nice making friends with people who loved the game, like I did, because there's so much division in the opinions! But I feel like I could chat to people who liked it for ages
Same do you have any taughts on if Ellie went back to Jackson and if she did whats her relationship with tommy going to be? Also while on the farm Ellie had write in her journal "my skin hurts" she wrote it more then once what are your taughts on that?
x Calypso then you can just stfu and get out of here. If people like something, they should be able to. The game has many redeeming qualities and all you talk about is it’s story. What about everything else? “But it’s a story driven game” and so what? It still does everything better than part 1 except music, story, and characters. Just let other people have opinions on a video game and stop acting like an entitled man child.
I just can`t believe people feel entitled to harass actors, who enbody a fictional character. (or anyone else for that matter..) Laura did a fantastic job, as have all actors and developers on The Last of Us 2. Wether people like the game or not, I fell like they at least have to recognize that.
I love how sensitive and emotional Laura seems as a person, even when just talking about her friend at 51:10. I think it’s how she is able to give such amazing performances for a wide variety of characters, she has an unusual empathy and sensitivity.
I'm so happy to see that most of the comments here are positive and supportive! Laura's an amazing performer and person and she doesn't deserve the mean and offensive messages she's been getting. She's so incredible.
@@AnthonyMcNeil I think ghost of tsushima will probably be great based on what we've seen. odds are the next target will be avengers which unfortunately laura is in as well. Hopefully the game does really well because I love both avengers and abby :)
The more I think about it, the more I like the game. Just thinking about it and discussing and reading about tlou2 online reveals so many layers to it that you just don't notice the first time around. This game is truly incredible and groundbreaking like the first one. It's going be talked about for a long time thanks to the thought and care that went into the making of it.
Loved Abby in the game. I find while Abby and Ellie have so many similarities there's also enough there to really make them different in the same way that there are similarities and differences between obsession and addiction. For me, I interpreted Abby's physique as obsession with revenge and Ellie I interpreted as addiction to revenge. I think of that moment when Tommy comes to the farm to tell Ellie where Abby is and the look on Ellies face struck me like an addict struggling not to give into the addiction again. That final fight between Ellie and Abby - my heart was breaking for both of them. They had both been through their own hell and I just wanted peace for them both. Ellie and Dina, Abby and Own, Tommy and Maria -- all relationships broken by the obsession/addiction of revenge.
It's incredible how much Laura, Ashley and Troy emphasise with these characters that they tear up like this. I mean granted Laura also does because she's reliving the hate she got for Abby and how supportive Troy was about it, which goes to show how much they care for each other. Must be awesome to be in that group of voice actors that have each others back (so much so that Troy and Nolan started retro replay together).
To be fair they’re like brother and sister they done a lot of Voice acting together their are kind of like family Also they’re both parents separately but parents nonetheless
I didn't like how long Abby's part was but I liked Abby. It's crazy how people would "attack" Laura for a character she played. Glad it sounds like she's getting more positive feedback.
Abby actually have the best parts in the entire game. The forest escape vs multiple stalkers, The hospital rat king, the convention center, the fight vs tommy, the sky ladder and that escape from haven. terrifying and action packed. idk how u get bored with all that.
@@jojojojojojojojojojojojob I didn't get bored it just made the game drag on for me. From the forest on I was in to Abby, Yara and Lev. I had a problem with where they put Abby's story, and how long it took to get back to that theater scene. I might've been to harsh on it the first time around which is why I'm playing it again. I just got to Abby's part today.
@@littleleafers its fun tho. it also answers the question ellie has the entire time 'where the fuck is abby hiding?'. she aint hidin all along. shes busy running around dealing with a bunch of shit.
@@jojojojojojojojojojojojob It's definitely fun! There's plenty of stand out moments for Abby. I think it just hit different the first time around. I'm interested to re-examine everything and see how I feel
Amidst all the anger and hate, congratulations to Laura Bailey in TLOU2. She absolutely owns it. And I'm also throwing love for Nadine Ross. She deserved more screen time in Uncharted 4. Glad they rectified that for Lost Legacy.
Fascinating to hear about her experience on THAT scene. Wow. Something that you don’t always think about is what the actors go through (not just the characters) in those moments when you’re just playing the game. Amazing work Laura Bailey.
@@otrabanda6851 it wasn't about joel being the main character, it was about you identifying with him. In last of us 2 the game tells you that the ones you identify with/love can be assholes and the assholes can have the right motivations.
The fact that I still don’t like Abby (coz I’m team Ellie) but love her story and relationship with Yara n Lev just shows what an interesting character she is. Obviously hated her for killing Joel, then we saw her story I empathised. Then she shoots Jesse n I was like “Nah I changed my mind fck this lady”. Then Lev n Yara come along and I’m like “.......🥺I must protect them at all costs”. Then we got to the pillars scene and I wow, I just wanted Ellie to go back home and stop this madness
Pisacca All stories are manipulation. I also suspect you forgot Ellie got to pat a dog at the start of her story too and she's shown as loving to her horse as well. I think your issue is you want to kill Abby and you don't want to understand or emphathise. A bit like Ellie in the story right up til the end.
@@Schwifty1 Look, I get why the game doesn't sit well with many people, but these arguments are weak. The story/game is "manipulating" you? What story doesn't? All stories aim to elicit a certain reaction from the consumer. To your point though. Abby might kill dogs, but Ellie "shows more remorse" so there is no making Ellie out to be this monster while Abby is a saint in this game.
@@Schwifty1 If you think ellie is a monster then that's on you. Most of us understood that ellie and abby are just dealing with the exact same grief. The only difference is abby was dealing with it for four years and ellie for a few weeks. Personally I adore both characters.
This game was a masterpiece. Just got the plat yesterday. Had to take a few days away from it after my first playthrough but then picked it up again because I wanted to see if the story on replay still worked and those added details knowing things with context added to Ellie’s story. Like knowing why Owen was AWOL, that the soldiers were talking about Abby escaping when Ellie gets to the hospital, the soldiers asking why the lights were on in the base level of the hospital. Laura you were fantastic and I’m so glad I remained completely spoiler free and got to experience the story as Naughty Dog untended.
It SHOCKED me to find out it was Laura Bailey, because typically I can pick out her voice, most of them sound similar to Rise Kujikawa to me. It's crazy to see how far she's come since 2008 when Persona 4 came out
DarkDoTz na its not about being fooled. Its about having an opinion that doesnt align with the masses. If people like the game, thats just how it is. I liked it. My opinion may not be the one eveyone agrees with but that really shouldnt matter to anyone else but me.
I've never known a character in any form of media (or real life for that matter) for my opinion to swing from actual pure hatred, to genuinely loving. The character performances in this game were unreal, and the story and it's 2 sided concept made this an incredibly emotional and conflicting experience. Never felt so attached to any story in my life! I don't throw the term masterpiece around lightly, this is one. Congrats Laura, you were incredible, and same to everyone else who worked on the game!
KerioFive go to the r/thelastofus page on reddit. Most people there love it. Most of my friends love it too. The internet is trashing it to jump on a bandwagon.
I think the backlash against Laura has finally faded and most acknowledge the brilliance of her performance and portrayal of Abby. Epic character. Epic game. Epic experience.
I have no doubt there were people who did their best to play this game with an open mind and didn't like it anyway. If that's you, good on you, and your opinion is every bit as valid as mine. What really sucks is how so many people saw the leaks or heard a few of the plot points and decided then and there to trash the game at every turn because they didn't want those things to happen. They either never played it, or played it with such a predisposition of "I'm going to hate this game" to the point where nothing was going to convince them otherwise. Such is life, I guess. I personally loved the game, warts and all. Hoping that, over time, the superficial haters will move on to something else (in some twisted way, I'm hoping some other AAA game ends up being a dumpster fire so people will find something else to latch onto hating). For the rest of us, I think this game will become more and more important, and resonate in an even more positive light as the years go on. Apropos of this video, I was really impressed with how the game went once you start playing as Abby. Like many, I was more or less annoyed, but before I knew it, I was having every bit as much fun playing as Abby and seeing the story unfold from her vantage point. That in itself was quite an achievement by the cast, writers, and developers.
Abby. Such an incredible and incredibly indepth character. Only Laura bailey could truly handle such a character. She is way more talented then I feel she gets credit for. She has to be top contender for game awards best performance award this year. Electrifying
Just rolled credits. That was the most emotional, realistic, gut-wrenching experience I have ever been through with a game. What an absolute masterpiece. Not just the obvious technical achievement which was jaw-dropping... but the performances from everybody in the game... even the "npc's" were acted with great care and emotion. I don't think I will ever get to experience something so powerful ever again. It just doesn't seem possible! Laura, you are incredible! You did such an amazing job at showing the softer side of Abby. So much so that during the final fight with Ellie I couldn't get myself to hit you etc.. not without pain in my heart.
As much as I hated Abby for killing Joel, I empathized with her at the end and didn’t want to kill her. Ellie took everything from Abby too except for Lev.
Man, when Laura gets emotional, I started getting emotional. Such an incredible performance from her, and it hurts to think about what she's had to deal with. I totally appreciate some people don't like the way the story went, but to treat her the way they did is uncalled for. I was just as ready as these people were to hate Abby, but man, the game did what I didn't think it could and totally had me on Abby's side by the end. And a huge credit for that goes to Laura's amazing talent.
Imagine putting 5 years of your life into making this amazing character only for mentally challenged geeks rip you to shreds at the end of it. Absolutely disgusting 😡. Laura did such a brilliant job and deserves nothing but praise, as do the whole cast and Naughty Dog team.
26:00 Perfect point about Abby's revenge and the years it was in the planning, including bulking up her body to monstrous sizes. This is a big parallel to the Count of Monte Cristo (Edmund Dantes), who ingested poisons over years to develop tolerances to them, for the purposes of revenge. Also both Abby and Dantes found revenge ultimately unfulfilling. In Abby's case, her nightmares involving that operating room did not go away.
You probably caught it, but there's actually a nod to Count of Monte Cristo when the WLFs (Abby and Manny after dropping off Mel) arrive at the FOB to talk to Isaac. If you go all the way to the left (?)/north (?), it'll trigger a dialogue option with the triangle button for a random guard, and she asks if she can hold on to Abby's copy of The Count of Monte Cristo for another week. This is before entering the gate to the FOB in the parking lot.
I ended up liking Abby so much. It was so crazy to see the shift in me as I started to empathize with and agree with her, and the frustration I had with Ellie at the end. Such a challenging game to play in the best way. Truly a masterpiece and what a performance from Laura!!
"You can't ever approach a character thinking about other characters." I would never have expected that answer. Especially in the context of Joel and Ellie. Great interview.
Abby felt empty after her father died. She filled that emptiness with a goal: retribution. You never see her as distraught as she was when she saw her father's body, until she's about to kill Joel, and like Laura says, she's flooding with mixed emotions. When she achieves her objective, that purpose is gone, and reverts back to emptiness. From then on her life resumes, aimlessly, with no motivation for what she does. Then, she finds Yara and Lev, and through these unlikely allies, she forms a bond, one especially with Lev. She has found a new purpose as a guardian, an incentive to go searching for the fireflies. As long as she has Lev, she has something to fight for.
Nobody likes abby( the character) I don’t care who the actor is and Neil made this garbage story that has nothing todo with the first one, they killed the main character from the first game in a disrespectful way like he never mattered at all
@@Schwifty1 Perhaps distraught is the wrong word, but as Ellie is wailing for her to stop, she pauses. She seems ambivalent; wanting to kill Joel, but Ellie's screams holding her back.
I’m really glad that people in the comments here are being positive and not hating on Abby or Laura. I honestly think Laura deserves to here how good she did in this role. Abby is such a hard character to like at the start, but by the end, I didn’t want Abby or Ellie to die. I didn’t even want them to fight. I’m hopefully for a third game, and I honestly hope Abby is in it.
@Just Dancing Machine I saw some people are making a petition for them to remake it lol. I still keep thinking that if those leaks hadn't happened people would be way more positive. A lot of youtubers have been drumming up hate in a big way as well.
reed because those RUclipsrs are making a ton of money with views and subs hating on the game! Yes RUclipsrs like The Quatering that kept the hate going more than anyone, Tyron Magnus, Skill Up( there are some inaccurate stuff in his negative 👎 review), Angry 😤 Joe, and the rest of them that make money on hate. It is a niche to hate or call something a scam, so just look on google these keywords an see how popular they are when there words are added to things people Hate or called a SCAM. People joining the bandwagon never want to give things a try, they just skip no matter what. Then they start to call everything boring because they can’t appreciate life.
Honestly, first came here for the previos Spoilercast with Troy, Ashley and Neil and I'm blown away by the Interviewers skills, way to go Greg, it's joy to listen to your talks in these trying times of Pandemic. :) And while we're at it, I'd just like to voice my love for TLOU2, the entirety of the cast, and all of the fair folks of Naughty Dog. It's hard to describe the feelings you get, when the studio that sort of brought you into gaming (with good ole' Bandicoot games) delivers such an emotional experience all these years later. Awesome job y'all, can't wait for what the future brings!
At roughly 19:30 Laura is talking about how in rehearsal they really only covered the physicality of the scene to make sure it looked good and everyone was safe/not getting hurt. But what really got me, was how emotional she was getting merely recounting that scene and and where she and Ashley had to mentally go to nail the emotion of that scene. Laura Bailey is so unbelievably awesome!!! ❤❤
Loved abby! Her relationship with owen was the highlight of the game for me. Seeing her transfromation from being the best soldier to betray all of the wolfs for two kids its amazing
I loved this episode, but it's a shame how much the fan reaction demands a response. I would have loved to have heard more about Lev, working with Ian and Victoria, Abby's handling of deadnaming (how much did Abby figure out before Yara laid it all out, for example?), and so forth. I care for Lev a tonne by the time the credits roll, and Ian Alexander and Victoria Grace deserve a lot more credit. How does Abby rationalise killing WLF members? What was it like filming the Rattler attack with Travis? Her scenes with Patrick Fugit/Owen are amazing, especially on a second playthrough. What was it like portraying a complicated, lifelong bond with Patrick based on a handful of great scenes? What does Laura hope Abby finds in the reformed Fireflies? Her thoughts on filming the operating room scene? This is the most nuanced, wonderful performance I have seen from Laura Bailey, which says a lot. I hope she is able to take pride in what she accomplished, despite her Twitter mentions.
This was an amazing episode, Abby is a phenomenal character. I can't remember ever doing such a huge 180 on my feeling about someone in a game. Laura Bailey deserves all the credit in the world, I hope once the vitriol dies down everyone recognises what a fantastic job she did. P.S. Make as much TLOU2 content as possible, I'm living for it! More spoilercasts, more people from the game, I love it all.
I didn’t like Abby but still felt for her. I liked that she was trying to change. Honestly, the only reason I couldn’t fully connect with her was solely because she killed Joel. That just shows how talented she is as a voice actress, as I didn’t think I could get to that point with Abby. Seriously, great work by her and I’m sorry that she is receiving so much internet hate. It kind of makes me sick to see what people do to her character while they play and how satisfied they are with it. Also, offensive memes and death threats... Like, people it is a video game. Just fucking chill.
Crazy that if I didn’t know this was Abby’s voice actress I wouldn’t have guessed it. She didn’t have to change her voice for the roll but she def did a little and that’s dope
This is an amazing interview. Thanks so much to Greg and Laura. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a games interview really dissect the art of acting to this depth. This is like Inside the Actor’s Studio. Bravo!
Laura Bailey is a LEGEND! One of THE most versatile actors in the bizz, she elevates every role I've seen her in. Abbey and Lev spin-off LET'S GOOOO! P.S. She looks like a younger Marisa Tomei in this interview 😊
Abby was my favourite character in the game. Her narrative is so complex and I found her personal story the most compelling. I think Laura Bailey did a phenomenal job.
There's this part of me during the Confrontation in the theater I was so reluctant to play as Abby because I didn't want to kill Ellie. Its in those moments why I love The Last of US 2. I think the hatred for Abby is just a testament on how great Laura's performance was in the game. Just like the actor who played Joffrey from Game of Thrones who audience hated w/ a passion sometimes the performance is so good that people forget that they are fictional characters.
53:30 But Joel didn‘t reveal his name to the group there! When they ran away from the infected and reached the ski lodge, Tommy said: “I’m Tommy, that’s Joel. What’s your name?” They didn’t know at that point Abby wasn’t alone. Joel couldn’t have lied to the group because Abby already knew who they were, but waited to make a move until they were save in the cabin after they escaped the infected.
pretty sure he revealed his name after Tommy did. he kinda nudged him to. Edit: people in the comments told me you probably ment when Tommy already told Abby Joel's name not the group so yeah it WAS too late but not Joel's fault
@@herz5159 he did but abby already knew his name and at that point it was too late. people keep throwing around this idea that joel would never drop his guard like that and we can see in this game that he never did. I think part of the reason tommy went off on his own and he's so broken at the end is that he feels responsible.
This is exactly it, yet people like to conveniently ignore that when criticizing Joel. Even Tommy, as especially complacent as he became, had the best intentions in mind.
What a superstar. Laura this was a spectacular performance. For the character be effectively introduced with such a brutal emotionally charged non fan service act and then through sheer badass talent to have me genuinely rooting for her was brilliant. I’m sure awards will follow.
Thanks Laura for delivering a great performance as Abby. Many, many of us enjoyed her character so don't listen to those hateful comments on the internet.
Although I do not agree with storytelling and pacing of the game, the acting was on point, Laura did an amazing job and should get all the praise she deserves, it was not fair to treat her disrespecfully just because of the story,
This game makes me tear up every time I play it, the first time I fucking HATED Abby and when you switch to having to play her for the three days in Seattle I was so pissed. But then with Lev and Yara…the moment on the bridge it started to change for me and I fell in love with Abby just as much as I loved Joel and Ellie. This game is a masterpiece and I’ll never understand why anyone gave it such hate. This game is amazing…and the end when Ellie is drowning Abby and she has that flashback and you see her let go of the anger whilst starting to cry and then she releases Abby…that fucking changed me. And I cry so hard every time I play it
Amazing interview Greg. Your questioning, professional. Responsiveness to Laura’s answers, brings real flow, realism and charm. Abby’s character was my favourite in the game and Laura’s performance was amazing. Great show, great game. Bravo
In this game sure. But you can't deny, Joel was superbly written in the first game. Both great characters. Abby has my favorite line in the entire game though. After the Yara scene, when Lev says "those were your people" and Abby just says "you are my people". Dang
Ellie is good and Abby is a psycho. They both care for someone. I love abby as a character because she has a caring heart, for people who cares about her. I dislike her as a pyscho but respect her at what she does (other than killing SOME innocent people).
I do respect Naughty Dog for creating this beautiful game. It might not be the best, but I am extremely happy for everyone who loved it or hated it. It's not everyone's cup of tea but it is an enjoyable game. 7/10 #Good
I fell in love with Abby as a character, the more I think about it the more I think she is my favorite character of the franchise. I was so happy she could leave with Lev at the end.
Same. I really liked her character and her story. Hated her for killing Joel but the amount of hate towards her character is insane. Her story and the connection with lev was awesome to me.
Still wished Yara survived But at this point.. Abby won me over Actually she won me over in day 2 arc.. When lev softens her n helped her overcome her fear of heights She taught him to cuss haha
@@YouNicIceYNI Yeah...but for the sake of the story I think her hero moment was powerful, especially in light of how it seems to have turned out for Lev and Abby in the end. 😊
When it hit me that Laura played Nadine and Abby I was so impressed, they sound nothing alike and they're both so consistent yet nuanced in their interpretations. Laura nails it !
She also played MJ in Spider-Man, Fetch in Infamous Second Son, Kait in the Gears of War games, and many other characters in games. She’s awesome like Troy Baker and Nolan North
Talent ! The more you learn about the voice actors like Troy, Nolan or Laura, the more you notice their work even when they play very different character. But yeah she is damn impressive !
Spoiler Alert . . . . . . Generally yeah, but in the part when Abby's pointing a gun at Tommy she Says to Ellie " Toss your weapon" she sounds like Nadine Ross.
Hey, really enjoyed watching this and hearing two people have this conversation who had very similar thoughts that I had while playing. I also enjoyed your spoilercast with the rest of the cast, just wanted to say great stuff.
Is there any other game anyone can think of where every V/O for every primary character is moved to tears just by reliving their experiences of playing those characters? I really am not trying to be hyperbolic when I say that I think this franchise is the most emotional in the history of video games.
The entire cast did incredible work especially Laura Bailey. Abbey is a character that i went from hating two hours in to really caring about by the end. It was crucial to the story that I felt that way about Abbey i think. I cared about her as much as Ellie if not maybe a bit more. If the performances weren't spot on i don't think it would have worked. Thankfully for me it did. I still think about the game after finishing it nearly a week ago. It's my favourite game this generation. I don't understand the crazy level of hate that some people have, the immature weirdos sending nasty messages and making death threats over a game, it's just disgusting and pathetic.
I'm still so mad at the hate Laura got for Abby. 😤 I LOVED Abby, the fact they could make you go from hating someone to loving them in the space of a few hours is amazing. Laura seems like such a sweetheart, I've followed her for years.
to me I love when an actor can make me hate a character, that's such a testament to their ability and I hated Abby, the whole game I'm thinking yes I am going to get my revenge on her I hate her can't wait to kill her. To "Okay I get her side but I still hate her" to "No, I'm starting to like her" to not wanting to fight her at the very end to being happy Ellie didn't kill her. I've never been so turned around on a character and moved by a performance like this.
Two things: this game sort of made me hate Seattle, which is crazy bc I love that part of the country and that city, and it made me hate Ellie's driven ego fueled journey into darkness, watching her slowly destroying herself so much, that Abbys redemption journey felt like a fucking relief after the nightmare of Ellie's descent. Thats due to the incredible storytelling! What a masterpiece.
Joel is my favorite character out of any franchise. I completely empathized with him throughout all his questionable decisions but I never doubted his motives. So needless to say, I hated Abby from the beginning. But man...her performance really does an incredible job at least getting you to warm to her by the end. When she calls out to Lev that she is going to hug him, I felt myself actively liking her. I couldn't forgive her, but man I really liked her despite that.
there's totally gonna be DLC look at Laura's face at 54:40 that's the face of someone who knows something but can't say something 👀 Also Laura Bailey is actually amazing and I'm a super big fan thanks for posting this!
Aside from Laura Bailey being amazing, Greg your interviewing skills this episode were off the charts. So many great questions and follow-ups. Such a good episode!!
Amazing performance! They also managed for me to care for Abby specially at the end.

I'm upset that people were hating laura bailey for their hate for abby. She did such an amazing job as abby
@@UncleCastro 100% many of them haven't played the game.
Not to mention she's playing a fictional character and it's absolutely ridiculous that people respond like that to more than just this. It's always disgusting.
Yea haters always will be haters she's doing abby voice there's no need to hate her
I was PISSED at Abby at first, and then fell in love with her.
You know it's GOTY material when it's got you on an emotional rollercoaster ride.
@Li'l Squeak Wait, what?! You're telling me that fictional media uses emotional manipulation to make you feel things? Betrayal!
Amen!

Brody Is SO MAD KEEP CRYING

Just gonna add she is also Serena in Skyrim. One of the coolest companions in the game.
@Brody Smith go sign that petition kid lmfaooo
Great take friend. Couldn't have said it better. Sucks when a RUclipsr who's opinion you normally agree with is saying "Abbey is evil this game is bad," it's just more complex than that.
Not gonna lie, it was a tough week after finishing the game, the characters were in my head for a long time. I understand that grief never goes away, but after that week I set my peace with Abby and all the characters, the performances, the stories, all of it is amazing and deeply sad at the same time. Amazing!
Yeah, same. I actually haven't done a second playthrough because of that. It drained me, emotionally.

Why does she sound the same in every game she plays? Then she tried to blame Russian Bots for this game being called out for what it is. At least Troy Baker can change his voice to sound like other people.
Well, a lot of people aren't into science these days :(
@@henrytownshed5304 You haven't played many of her games or seen her work then, because she's done several different voices over the years.
Don’t worry the r/thelastofus page on reddit has tons of fans that love it. These people trashing never played it or dropped it after Joel’s death.
Well said. There are far too many gamers out there that aren't really interested in storytelling. They want to be pleased, not moved. And that's a shame for them, but is ultimately a testament to their relative immaturity.
Every word is true... Well said!
You guys need to talk to Shannon Woodward too. I would love to hear about her side of the story

I couldn't stand your 99 likes. I had to round it out to 100. Also, more importantly, I agree with you and this game was amazing.
Were you born an idiot?

KarupwithK and Joel killed many innocent people. It’s a cruel world.
@@daTexy Finally someone with some decency
I've never known a character in any form of media (or real life for that matter) for my opinion to swing from actual pure hatred, to genuinely loving. The character performances in this game were unreal, and the story and it's 2 sided concept made this an incredibly emotional and conflicting experience. Never felt so attached to any story in my life! I don't throw the term masterpiece around lightly, this is one. Congrats Laura, you were incredible, and same to everyone else who worked on the game!
Its good to finally see these type of comments! I loved this game so much, never felt anything else like it
💯
Well said
Well said man. Exactly my thoughts.
Abby. Such an incredible and incredibly indepth character. Only Laura bailey could truly handle such a character. She is way more talented then I feel she gets credit for. She has to be top contender for game awards best performance award this year. Electrifying
Laura Bailey earned herself a new fan in me with TLoU 2. I loved her performance and I loved Abby!
Thanks for the heart KF, please don't stop nagging Naughty Dog about TLoU 3 with Abby! I really hope they do that.
She really became a name to watch for me personally. I'm excited to see her in the new avengers game :)
Check out Critical role. Start with season 2. Her character is adorbs.

Ellie took everything from Abby too except for Lev.
and fingers...
This is exactly how i felt.

Praise for what? Making the worst game this year? XD

Kind of funny games ☝️ give this comment a LIKE.
Nobody likes abby( the character) I don’t care who the actor is and Neil made this garbage story that has nothing todo with the first one, they killed the main character from the first game in a disrespectful way like he never mattered at all
O331 USMC stay mad buddy. She’s a great character.
O331 USMC I like Abby, you don’t so say that, you can’t speak for anyone but yourself...

What a lovely person. The backlash affecting her breaks my heart. Don’t listen to the trolls, Abby was great and the performance was better! ❤️
Yeah that part really got to me. Totally agree that her performance, the character, and the game overall is phenomenal.
Then they start to call everything boring because they can’t appreciate life.
after 1 month people will move along with hate to another game

Honestly, first came here for the previos Spoilercast with Troy, Ashley and Neil and I'm blown away by the Interviewers skills, way to go Greg, it's joy to listen to your talks in these trying times of Pandemic. :)
And while we're at it, I'd just like to voice my love for TLOU2, the entirety of the cast, and all of the fair folks of Naughty Dog. It's hard to describe the feelings you get, when the studio that sort of brought you into gaming (with good ole' Bandicoot games) delivers such an emotional experience all these years later. Awesome job y'all, can't wait for what the future brings!
Laura Bailey is incredible, Abby was a great character and I loved this game
"I'm a big fan of the gays."
Yes.
The Last of Us 2 is hands down the best video game I've ever played.
play more games kid
I'd put it in my top 10....
It's easily up there! Defo never been on such an emotional ride, all of which was amazing
I feel like laura is like one of those people that is a gift to humanity
She’s so awesome. That’s it, that’s the comment.
She absolutely killed it. Even her performance as Nadine was so epic I couldn't get that voice out of my head for a long time.
Yes Abby lured Joel into a trap when she discovered who he was. Doesn't really change anything.
@@herz5159 Tommy already told Abby Joel's name when they first met. Then Joel introduced himself again to Abby's group.
I just finished the game and man, it was an emotional roller coaster. My goty. Laura performance was top tier.
I hated abby at first but then was blown away on how I felt in the end... this game brought so many emotions... damn what a incredible game
Bravo
Laura seems like the kindest person in the world. What a first class interview. And again props to Greg who does a killer job as always
Laura Bailey!!! Thank you so much for your performance as Abby, one of the best characters of the franchise.
@Brody Smith Have you even played the game? Or are you talking out of your ass? Add me on psn Dieg0fdc, I wanna see those trophies.
7/10 #Good
Nah, low-key Sam and Henry were miles better than Abby
Laura is awesome, one of my favorite actresses. Loved her as Abby!
Laura's energy in this interview is palpable. How can anyone hate this woman!? She's contagiously optimistic.
Like Abby or hate Abby, Laura Bailey did an absolutely terrific job acting in this game both the voice and the mo cap.
I fell in love with Abby as a character, the more I think about it the more I think she is my favorite character of the franchise. I was so happy she could leave with Lev at the end.
I’m slowly becoming obsessed with Abby, and I need to stop.

Hey, really enjoyed watching this and hearing two people have this conversation who had very similar thoughts that I had while playing. I also enjoyed your spoilercast with the rest of the cast, just wanted to say great stuff.
Laura did an amazing job playing Abby! Hands down one of my favorite characters of all time.
I've never been so turned around on a character and moved by a performance like this.
andrew labrado Laura and Ashley CRUSHED IT. they fucking tore me up
I agree but I was glad Ellie didn’t kill her for Ellie’s sake, not Abby’s.
My good friend and I have this idea that if an actor makes you hate their character it makes them an amazing actor. It's such an amazing talent
So true
and they do good at making you pissed at her in the last fight.
that flash of joel revamped my hatred
