    Kinda odd how Blessing talked about tutorials in this game. They took the Sekiro route by stopping the game to explain the new mechanic, for instance the pouch he said he didn’t know about. Then just in case you missed it there’s a whole menu in your inventory with all the tutorials. I honestly don’t know how much more they could do with the major mechanics.
    Honestly, usually agree with Blessing’s reviews, but it almost seems like I’m playing a different game when it comes to most of the criticisms.
    Ah well hope he enjoys the rest of the game. Cheers.

    The point Blessing is making at 13:50 & 15:40 is why I personally hold devs like FromSoftware or Mobius Digital with Outer Wilds at a higher regard, the detail and deliberation in crafting these worlds and even just placements of items in their games actually help tell their story whereas most other franchises place their points of interest or items to discover as just another dot to connect to across a vast map that they believe we should be impressed by because it's big & beautiful. Being able to subtly build out worlds that genuinely feels fully realized, ones that has had lifetimes of history to it is craftsmanship that should be appreciated.

    So hyped for Friday. Bless’s points of contention just seem to be the things that make Souls games what they are. The obtuseness is part of the charm. Not intentionally throwing shade at him but I also raised an eyebrow on his point about being too terrified to continue with lots of currency on him. That’s also a soulsborne hallmark and something you have to manage. I get the distinction with it now being an open world but you have to essentially be in a position where you’re prepared to lose all your souls/runes if you keep pressing on. You’re not obligated to go back and get them, sometimes if you build up a ton and lose them somewhere you don’t want to retread, you have to just write them off. There will always be more.

    • @shadowpsyke
      @shadowpsyke 2 года назад +4

      For the loot specifically, his point was he didn't find exploration gratifying because of the reward being loot he couldn't use.
      About the obtuseness, you have to realize there's a whole group of Fromsoft players who play exclusively following a guide or having help. Bloodborne and Sekiro are two of my favorite games ever and not once did I play them without a guide. But still both those games are fairly linear so even if you're big dumb like me you can find your way to where you need to go.

    I thought the tutorial systems and menus in Elden Ring were completely fine. When there’s something to know, an info screen pops up and then every one of those is stored in your inventory. If you’re rushing through and don’t take the time to read those then that’s not the game’s problem.

  • @marvinbennett
    @marvinbennett 2 года назад +3

    When it comes to tutorials, the biggest issue is mainly reading and reading comprehension in my opinion. The pop up tutorials are extremely helpful, especially if you try to do what the tutorials say as soon as you see them. Most let’s plays I’ve seen though show the players quickly skimming and then not understanding later which is more of a personal issue imo. Also all the tutorials are in your inventory for reference

    I might be misinterpreting what he said, but it sounds like Blessing's not fully aware of how the weapon upgrade system works. Complaining that he's not finding any OP weapons that are immediately better than his current one makes no sense, because unless you NEVER upgrade your equipment, it should always be marginally stronger than a weapon you just found. Doesn't matter how cool it looks, a base greatsword isn't gonna do as much damage as a +5 katana; you're gonna have to upgrade it. So the reward for finding new weapons is a combination of trying a different moveset that you might like more than the current one, possibly finding a unique weapon skill, along with the new weapon's scaling and damage POTENTIAL. I've always loved this about From's games, and this one more than any others. Every reward in the game requires you to make an INVESTMENT, whether it's runes/souls, smithing stones, risking a dangerous new area, or even just the time it'll take to reach an objective. Everything in this game is earned, not just given at random. And that makes every new weapon/ash/piece of gear feel significant, even if it doesn't fit your current build.

    The fact that blessing isn't getting anything out of the dungeons other then a drop is crazy. You are pitted in small spaces or fighting on poison to bring you with the realization that those mechanics are going to be further in the game and they are getting you ready for that. It's not the boss drop its the entire dungeon that you need to look at. The race back to your runes/souls is a key mechanic in this game.... if you don't enjoy it you are 100% playing the wrong game.

    It feels like Bless is really trapped in the linear From Soft game mindset. I had a bit of that in the first ten hours in Elden Ring. But at some point it just clicked and I felt this total freedom. This game makes it so easy to explore with very little risk. Recovering runes is easier than ever because of the mount and fast travel and being able to run from boss fights like Andy said. I'm at the point where I'm not really afraid of challenges or losing runes unless I'm inside a mini dungeon or tight space or no mount zone. And when I have too many runes to go in comfortably I just continue my open world exploration until I can spend them and then come back. There is just so much freedom in how difficult you want your experience to be and when you can tackle each challenge.

    For once, I am glad I am single and don't have a family to distract my time from playing. A game like this sucks for those of us with regular jobs where maybe we can play 1-2 hrs on a normal week day. It's going to take us forever to best this monster

    I don’t know if it was because they may have patched it after the video, but you can use multiple Golden Runes at once. Choose “use selected” from the options then set the number you want to use.

    Not sure why everyone has to have this reviewed before launch? We’re already hyped. Tamoor even tweeted about him being physically weakened by the crunch for this game. Especially when HFW was just last week I think the reviews should have been pushed a month. Or just say impressions. There is no need to rush out a review score that few people even care about. Can’t wait for mine to come on Friday.

    49:00 you can use the rune shards en masse you could in souls and bloodborne also you habe to select them from the inventory and instead of pressing use press “use selected” and the game allows you to use as many as you want.

    Do boss fights have the limiting fog or can you run away from a boss?

    • @SunlightGwyn
      @SunlightGwyn 2 года назад

      Bosses found in the open world have no fog barriers. You can run away and abandon the boss battle. You can even return and continue from where you left off (boss heath stays the same) as long as you don’t rest at a grace site or go too far away. Only in castles, dungeons, and Gaels are there boss fog barriers.

    I'm about 2/3rds through and haven't had to farm once. Explore enough and you'll be about the right level for each place you get to.
    And, basically, if you think you might be in the wrong place, hit something with the pointy stick, if you've done as much damage as a mosquito bite run the other way.

    Blessing's issue seems to be that he wants to rush through, because of his job. If he was playing this for fun and at his own pace I feel he'd enjoy it more. It should never be about "Now where's my prize" the prize is enjoying what secrets are out there. You can get really cool weapons early on, if you watch the video's back in November. Yes they have changed the loot in certain chests, but at least you'd know a rough idea where to go. Plus if you follow the golden strands that come off the Sites of grace, it shows you the way to go, similar to the leaves in Ghost of Tsushima.

    The greatest challenge of the year for me is to finish both Forbidden West and Elden Ring before Ragnarok. I'm currently so in love with Horizon I can't put it down, but these scores for Elden Ring are insane! I don't play that many games so these will take me a long ass time.

    I understand not feeling like you are supposed to be there but that just means you should go somewhere else. I don’t understand why if you can’t go to one area you instead repeat the same thing over and over again. Also the rewards for the dungeons are worth it. It just might not be for your particular build.

    I hope you guys do another podcast/gamecast with the same crew going over the whole game as a spoiler cast. Speaking of everything they loved and didn't love about the game, the world, the story, everything. I just finished my first play through of 100 hours and this game was the adult version of breath of the wild and i loved it. Its easily a 10/10 for me but there was some things I didn't like and hope they expand on in the next games. Gonna start my next play through at a mage now and then go back into the open world with my mele character to finish all the open world stuff. Would love to hear what this squad as to say a month later and maybe a play through or more later.
