Her name was princess rhaenys of the house targaryen, she came to us from dragonstone. She was a dragon rider, a mother, a wife, she was brave, and wise, and beautiful. She had the blood of the dragon, but her fire has gone out. And we will never see her like again! I loved her and maleys!
People are saying she made a stupid decision and the writing is nonsense, when it was a pretty good tactical decision (and would have been better if she'd actually succeeded at taking Vhagar out!) and "characters making choices the audience wouldn't make, sometimes including choices that are genuinely stupid" is not the same as "nonsensical writing." I think the fan club, like many fan clubs, actively chooses to be miserable and people do not understand the mechanics of storytelling.
Taking Aegon and his dragon out of the war was huge! Of course, The queen who never was and Meleys are more valuable in a fight, but Aegon and Sunfyre are the symbols of team Green. Sunfyre is literally on their banners, and now he is out of the fight. And harming Vhagar is impressive, especially with the size difference. Meleys compared to Vhagar is almost the same as Sunfyre to Meleys.
Everyone comments that she should have run, but Rhaenys knew that if she fled and Rooks Rest fell, other lords would abandon Rhaenyra and her claim. She had no other duty but death and honor.
I genuinely think people complaining 1. do not understand the character, 2. do not understand the social mechanics of the show's world, 3. do not understand the conventions or mechanics of storytelling, and 4. actively choose to be miserable, honestly. There is also some overlap between people who think she was stupid for turning back, and those who are angry that she dipped without roasting Aegon's entire coronation. So idk if they even know what they wanted from her.
Well she's dead so she should have run, she accomplished nothing by turning back. Only ONE thing should have mattered to her but it didn't. Protecting Meleys; she lost the Blacks second best dragon. It was already stated that they would need Meleys and Caraxes to kill Vahgar. Her "honor" was more important than the Dance. She was too proud and failed her family, which is the point being made, she died needlessly. She also could have ended the dance before it began at the coronation, but again, her honor stopped her, and the realm will burn for it. She is just as responsible for the deaths going forward as everyone else, and maybe that is why she sacrificed herself. Honor for the sake of Honor is her vice, just like Ned. It is a troupe GRMM plays with a lot. That is what people wanted from her, sacrifice your honor for the greater good please! @joywagner979
@@robbie7557 but that's what happens when you go to war: sometimes you die. Sometimes you know you are going to die, or the chances are very good that you will die, but you need to fight the battle anyway. Rhaenys thought she had a decent chance of winning, or of at least disabling Vhagar to the point where the dragon would be taken out of the war entirely, even if she and Meleys also died. She had just watched Sunfyre and Aegon go down in what she might have assumed was a death spiral (an enormous win!) She took a calculated risk. If she had just ditched the fight, that would have also impacted Rhaenyra's reputation. Who wants to follow a queen whose fighters will just ditch a fight?! Especially since Rhaenys herself had been Told about this after the coronation event. Again, this is what people -- especially tactical fighters -- do in a war. Imagine if half of the Allied forces on D-Day figured, "well, we're probably going to die, so we should just get back on those ships and dip."
@@robbie7557 If she bailed on the fight, the Blacks lose all of their support. Nobody will support the Queen who failed to protect them. You lose a dragon and dragon rider, but, in the Black's eyes they struck down Aegon and Sunfyre, did some small damage to Vaghear, and showed all of their supporters that the support is real, they lost a dragon and family to defend them, if I was under Rheanerya, she would now have my full support. If Rhenys runs from the fight, she loses that support, because the queen I have allied to, can't protect me. Strategy.
@@joywagner979 She is not a soldier storming the beach, she is a nuclear weapon. Not the same thing. Sometimes the calculated risk is living to fight another day and not recklessly throwing your life and greatest deterrent away. At least in the books she gets caught out by both the brothers at the same time so it makes more sense why she died.
Daemon's confusion between reality and vision also highlights how difficult it must be for Haelena who has them more frequently. The realisation that what happened to Jaeherys was real and not a vision was acted out incredibly well by Phia
I don’t know why it matters that it’s CGI. I mean, have you never felt emotions watching animated media? Video games? Even with fictional books, why would you cry for words on a paper? Because of the story and meaning behind what’s being conveyed. Once the CGI isn’t terrible and actually looks like it’s there, why wouldn’t you feel for the dragons?
I'm wrecked 😭Leave those poor dragons out of it 😭 whyyyy??? I quit. I can't keep watching these amazing, magical beings forced to turn on each other and suffer all for the whims of useless aristocrats.
Going to miss Rhaenys going forward for sure, but at least she got a good death. Just wish her and Meleys would have landed on Cole somehow and took him out 😅
She had the best lines last week; she spoke some truth to Rhaenyra about what's coming. Rhaenyra tried to find a peaceful OUT of this war, but the Greens weren't interested summed up succinctly in with Alicent's "it's too late" as she realized that Viscerys never meant their son, Aegon. Rhaenys could have ended this all before it started by torching the lot of the Greens assembled at Aegon's coronation. She didn't because she's an honorable warrior, and not a cheap shot artist.
A lot of talk on Rhaenys but what stuck with me is brother-murderer and kingslayer aemond. He waited on purpose, not backing his own brother. Set him on fire on purpose. And then wanted to finish the job, but got interrupted and just walked away.
@@RockoblockoI think it's less that he is at Harrenhall and more so that two episodes have spent a significant amount of time on him just chilling there having visions lol
I actually loved that they changed it up a bit she could have flown back to dragonstone after aegon fell but she chose to stay and fight and defend Rook's nest, that was the reason she was there in the first place and Cole's army was still there and still attacking
Because she could have actually won! I think in the books the story was told that she was doomed from the start with both dragons being there but because aemond in the show torched his brother thing were different maleys shredded the old bitches belly although being smaller and weaker
Did she really tho? Now there is one dragon left and he is on the enemy’s side. They would have had 1 left each if she chose to regroup. Just playing devils advocate
Viserys' marriage to Alicent opens up a challenge to the line of succession that he had established. Rather than focusing on securing his own succession, he provides more than one option for a future heir. This was only ever going to divide the realm. He should have considered staying single, and backing his daughter's claim to the throne.
I agree and for a King that claims kept the peace for 80 years and wanted nothing but peace for the realm, he did cause ALL of this madness because he couldn't control himself. It really is mainly his fault. Not so wise after all...
Viserys only got his position due to the 2 heirs of the old king dying. I agree that he should have done more to secure Rhaenyra, but there's no chance in hell that staying single is the correct choice in this world. The only reason there was no war last time was respect for the most beloved Targaryen king and the fact that Viserys was male. The books are inspired by Medieval Europe, and they had the same mindset.
The scene was extremely well made and effective. Impressive episode and great example of how visual media can elevate the source material if done properly. Seeing the piles of ashes made the unjust and unfair hierarchy of power of the time more gut wrenching and explained why in GOT other families and lords were tired of Targarians and their dragons. And Rhaenys witnessed it and of sort accepted her fall. 😭😭❤️🩹💔

I feel like Rhaenys decided to fight to death the moment Aemond roasted Aegon. She probably thought, “if he can do this even to his own brother my granddaughters stand no chance”. She died with honor it’s so sad her dragon will be paraded like a trophy…

The way Rhaenys and Meleys looked into each others eyes is heart breaking and reminds me of the way we look into our pets eyes when they have to be euthanised 😭
When you think about it, Aegon is essentially trapped in a no win scenario. He knows full well Aemond tried to kill him. But he can't do a thing about it. If he orders Aemond's arrest, then Vhagar is off the field and the Blacks can easily storm KL and capture them. So he's trapped with the knowledge that his brother wants him dead and he can't do a thing about it.
@@vermamohil Don't worry, he deserves his book death much more than dying in a dragon fight. However him and Sunfyre are out of the war, so both sides lost a dragon.
RIP Rhaenys, dying a true Dragon Rider's dəąth... You could see the difference in the training of the dragons... Aegon, Aemond only called for fire, Rhaenys called attacks, if she had the proper help (DAEMON/ Corlys) Vhaegar would've been the fallen one... Aemond won by luck, previous training of Vhaegar, without that, Rhaenys would've won...

What was so fascinating to see in this episode was Vhagar's experience. That old granny really knows her stuff lol. While sneaking up on Meleys is something that everyone is talking about, for me it was the move where she first struck her nails into Meleys, held her in the air and then breathed fire straight into their (Meleys and Rhaenys) faces when both dragons first encountered each other. INSANE EPISODE. The "dance" of the dragons BEGINSSSSSSSSS.
The battle at Rook's Rest was pretty epic in the book, but the show made it EPIC! They did Meleys and Rhaenys justice. That shot of realization that the end is here, flashing across Rhaenys' face as she falls... I am still shaking from that.. it was so powerful
Don’t get the hate to Aegon, he gets no love from his parents never taught to rule when he should have been, then gets given the crown because he’s told he’ll be killed otherwise, loses his son, his mother doesn’t even care, and then suffers so much physical injury.

A bit thankful that Princess Rhaenys’ death wasn’t as traumatized as I imagined. They showed that Meleys can take both dragons, one at a time.

I really think Rhaeny's chose to go out the way she did, as a warrior. Even if she ran away this battle, she would probably die in a different battle. She has to deal with the idea she killed her relative (which she doesn't know he survived) and believes kinslaying is no bueno. She's also lost both her son and daughter and probably doesn't want to face the possibility of losing her granddaughters to this war.
Granny Vhagar being told not yet by Aemond proceeds to rest sleepy dragon. Loved when she makes her entrance like a terror that is coming from a distance then proceeding to fly over the forest like a ship flying slowly over the forest cause of her gigantic size
The Queen that Should Have Been, Princess Rhaenys volunteered to go to Rook's Rest, and went out like a boss. We will miss her and the beautiful Red Queen Dragon, Meleys. Kind of felt bad for Aegon when talking to Alicent, and she said just "Do Nothing", then his scene with Sunfyre before they flew off to the battle. The other moment that made me nostalgic when Aemond looks up and sees King Aegon on Sunfyre and says "idiot", reminiscent of when Jamie was charging to take out Danaerys in GoT, and Tyrion looking from afar calls him an idiot, too. Watching the sheer size of Vhagar when she took off against the soldiers on the battlefield. I think Aemond saw a chance to take out his bully brother King and kind of figured he would take a chance and take out Aegon that way if we could.
Hahahaha 27:00 📖🙃 I love it when you read from the “book”. Your narration reminds me of PBS after school specials & reading rainbow vibes. Solid Ryan Aery dissin’.
As a dragon fan.. if I had been Rhaenys.. I'd have climbed my dragons neck and gone after the other dragon's eyes. Sorry Vagar... No more sight for you
I believe the Mad King knew the prophecy and had told Rhaegar Targaryen which is why he is so obsessed with the prophecy to the point he does what he does with Lyanna, then the prophecy dies when Robert takes the Throne. It's the reason the Mad King says "BURN THEM ALL" he was crazy but he spoke of the white walkers.
Aegon, sometimes the hardest thing to do is to do nothing. His rushing to battle reminded me of that scene Dany and Tyrion had. Even Alicent told him to do nothing which is expected of him.

2. do not understand the social mechanics of the show's world,
3. do not understand the conventions or mechanics of storytelling, and
4. actively choose to be miserable, honestly.
The way they showed both of them having a sweet moment with their dragons before mounting them 🥺
I’m not tearing up at a CGI dragon, you are
I can't stop crying
I think we both are 😭
It’s was the cutest thing and it’s fcking cgi 😂
Just wish her and Meleys would have landed on Cole somehow and took him out 😅
If Cristan would have died this way, that would have been rewarding
Better death than Dany.
This is a tv show. She is alive and well.
😂
A lot of talk on Rhaenys but what stuck with me is brother-murderer and kingslayer aemond. He waited on purpose, not backing his own brother. Set him on fire on purpose. And then wanted to finish the job, but got interrupted and just walked away.
Yeah, good on him. 😂
Great Great episode. I just wish Daemond didn't spend 2 episodes in harrenhall..
Yeah. But that’s how it is written. Can’t deviate too much. It would’ve been great if Caraxes was flown to battle, but that’s for a later date.
He literally spent most of the Dance at Harrenhal.
@@RockoblockoI think it's less that he is at Harrenhall and more so that two episodes have spent a significant amount of time on him just chilling there having visions lol
I agree I get they are Showing us how tormented Daemond really is. But 🥱🥱🥱🤪

The Larys alicent conversation was a highlight too when they talk about accepting how brutal a road they're stuck on

Nothing better than finishing the episode then getting the alert for the breakdown. Thanks Paul! PS: Rhaenys & Meleys are BAD A$$!!! 💪

Facts it’s a ritual for me now after an episode gotta see my guy Paul. 🫡💯
I wish she turned back 😢
It was a stupid change it made her look like a suicidal idiot
Did she really tho? Now there is one dragon left and he is on the enemy’s side. They would have had 1 left each if she chose to regroup. Just playing devils advocate
Was that English?
Rhaenys and Meleys 😭. And poor Sunfyre's screams 😢
Nah. RIP Meleys. Rhaenys was the stupidest woman to ride a dragon.
