Available Now: mercury-studios.lnk.to/Supert...
Supertramp's "Breakfast In America" was the biggest selling album in the world in 1979. It spawned several hit singles and went on to win two Grammy Awards and sell in excess of 20 million copies. On the album's release Supertramp embarked on a 10 month world tour which arrived in Paris at the end of November. These 4 shows from the Pavillon de Paris were all recorded and the last two were filmed. The audio went on to form the basis of the 1980 live album "Paris" but the film was never released. As bonus features, we include five tracks recorded on the night (but for which there is no film) using montage visuals: "Ain't Nobody But Me", "You Started Laughing (When I Held You In My Arms)", "A Soapbox Opera", "From Now On" and "Downstream".

The older I get, the more I realize how spot on my dads music taste is.
Better late than never!!
@@johnnygaffney4089 younger innocent . need to listen to more real music..
I think it's great when a youngster asks me what I'm listening too.
I grew up with this and all the LPs and 45s that went with them. CDs are OK but, boy do I miss those LPs.
kerschnerracing Seriously tho
My dad died 2 days ago. Supertramp Paris was the last album he listened to.
Rest in peace, daddy. Love you forever ♥️🌷.
My condolences to you.

When?? And how??
When Crist rules over mankind during the 1.000 years to give mankind a new beginning in peace and security.
I do not fallow any organized religion.
I only fallow the word of Crist prophecy written in the gospel and he performed several ressurrection s to let humans know he still has the power to do it in a big worldwide scale...
Crist doesn't lie.
I lost two close family members recently...
Stay in peace.

King Crimson
Definitely the most underrated band in history. How are these guys not in the Rock and roll hall of fame with their massive following and massive hit albums and almost a dozen hit songs and of course their unique sound!
Not by a long shot. You must not have grown up around these times? The band is amazing and very respected. Not to mention one of the most influential bands of the time.
The term "underrated" is the most overrated term in the English dictionary. People typically use it when they mean something else. Example: they mean they like something but they say it's "underrated". Supertramp literally blew up radio back in the day. They were one of the most "rated" bands at that time and even much later. So they can't be referred to as underrated. Since they were very rated. Hope that helps.
@@danroberts9050 By underrated I mean that they are not as popular and overplayed as some of the other bands that came out of that era like Queen and Styx for example. A lot of people seem to forget how great they were. I think it was partly due to the two main guys in the band never really liking each other.
@@ricomajestic Seriously, were you around back then? I was. Hell, they were in some cases more popular than those you mentioned. When Breakfast in America came out that's all you heard.
I agree! They should be in the hall of fame with Johnny Rivers (Secret agent man).
1979 listened to them.
2023 listening to them.
Till I die !!
Me, too.. and I am 55 now.. listened to them in 5th grade!!

The camera quality is incredible for over 40 years ago
It was shot on film so it was able to re-scanned and upscaled. Oh, the magic of 16mm film. (Edit: The Paris 79' show was shot on 16mm rather than 35mm)
@Mick Nilsen Even videos shot onto tape look really good for the time. The problem with tape vs film is that there was no use for HD excluding movie theatres or early adopters of HD, so the high quality image would have been downgraded to SD and then broadcast, and the issue with tape is that it can't be upscaled to HD like 35mm (or even 16mm, check out the Genesis 1973 Shepperton Video, shot on 16mm and upscaled to 1080p). However if one has the original master HD tapes it could be rescanned from the tapes (for example Pink Floyd's The Wall tour, the Nassau Coliseum shows are in possession of waters in full hd on tape rather than film)
edit: me from whenever I first posted this comment doesn't know what he's really talking about. Stuff shot to tape before the sony hdvs system (early version of hd for the Japanese muse system, equivalent to 1030 lines) were always 480 lines for NTSC or 576 lines for PAL, I believe without exception. The Nassau Collesium shows of the wall tour were shot at 480 lines. 1080 lines couldn't be viewed on any equipment, and wouldn't have made sense to do at the time. Should also note that this paris show was shot on 16mm, NOT 35mm as I originally thought.
Indeed...

People say "why would you want to go back in time?" Because I could see the best bands of all time, live, without smart phones in everybody's hand blocking the view and just soak in the greatness, that's why!!
My Dad died on Tuesday aged 65. We'll be playing this at his commemoration. What memories.
They were totally underrated. As rock bands of the 70s go they were one of the best and tightest.
No, we knew them, but in the seventies there were so much incredible good rock bands, Yes, Genesis, ELP, Led Zep, Toto ... As a drummer, I was listening to jazz-rock, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis, Santana, Weather Report, Return to forever, Frank Zappa, stuff with odd time signatures and strange chords.
I wasn't much interested in Supertramp, they wrote good compositions but it lacked of groove. Good songs for students, as Bob C.'s drum parts were very clean and well built, not enough action for my taste.
Philippe Chevaut supertramp groove a lot. They have their unique feeling to the music, a researched sound and some intresting harmonies
@@samuelechiarelli9594 I never heard a drummer saying the rythm section of Supertramp was fantastic. Compare to Toto. All drummers are fans of Jeff Porcaro's work. It's obvious when you play along the records, Jeff had a phenomenal groove, like Simon Phillips with Toto after his death or Vinnie Colaiuta with Sting. But I agree, Supertramp wrote and played very good music.
Philippe Chevaut yeah I totally agree with you, in terms of drumming, supertramp don’t excel or can’t be considered better than lots of other band just like of course Jeff’s Toto and all the bands you mentioned. I was talking in general about the songwriting side of supertramp, mainly about Roger and Rick’s work. On the other side, as a drummer too, I can’t agree more with you!
I do agree
Is it just me or is Roger Hodgson and Supertramp climbing back into popularity recently? Like a lot.
You mean it's maybe better to listen to actual song writers as opposed to homogenous noise?
I think its cause some commercials are using thier music
Roger is trending yes but supertramp took a nose dive
Yes. It seems that around 2008 Supertramp on youtube wasn't as popular as it is currently thriving today.
@@ervingalassi1424 Rodger is a disgrace to the memory of Supertramp, he is a egotistical ass
This album was HUGE in 1979, one of the biggest, most played albums. And think about the competition in 1979- AC/DC Highway To Hell, Pink Floyd The Wall, Led Zep In Through The Outdoor, Van Halen II, Fleetwood Mac Tusk, Michael Jackson Off The Wall, The Eagles The Long Run, The Clash London Calling, The Pretenders, Neil Young Rust Never Sleeps, Cheap Trick Dream Police, etc. etc. Not counting all of the New Wave and punk albums. 1979 was an insane year for music.
I remember smoken redbud all day long and jam out when this came out. A great year!
I was 17 in 79 I had fun every single day, every single day. Rock and Roll!!!
It absolutely was!
FWIW, London Calling wasn't released in the US until 1980 which is why Rolling Stone put it at the top of their best albums of the 80s issue.
At least once a week I feel bad for not experience previous decades like the 70s in real time.
This song has aged like fine wine. The sound of the clarinet is amazing.
I remember as a young boy coming home from school and my Mom would be jamming out to the "Breakfast in America" album. Great memories.
I like more the crime of centur

If you never thought of a clarinet as a rock and roll instrument, think again!
What do you think of the tuba? I think this is the first time I've heard it in a rock song and what's incredible is that it sounds wonderful.
@@inocenteguadalupeespinozam3053 Yes, very cool. But they never show the tuba player! Must have been a backing track or something
Once upon a time when musics had good lyrics, bands were real good and we felt fine after hearing.
Music is still good
@@jimmybob5541 Agreed. If you listening to the right stuff.
@@christiancristof491 FYI, I am a huge Supertramp fan and Paris was the first LP record I ever owned, but (apparently unlike you) I am not so narrow minded that I cannot see the artistry in some of the current music. It's not even a comparison by the way, it was a statement that 'music is still good if you are listening to the right music' and your only argument is to insult me? Not much of an argument then, is it?
We still feel good...😉!
It might be time for you to get a new body!
"i am a winner, i am a sinner ". watching it after Sinner got number 1 spot in tennis😎🇮🇹
I love SuperTramp ❤️, I love their music 🎶 🎵 it's absolutely amazing. They are a very criminally underrated group. They didn't really get the recognition that they deserved 🎉🎉
Uno de los pocos grupos que sonaban igual en concierto que en el estudio de grabacion.
Auténticos músicos no hay duda que lo mejor de la música ya paso
Tal cual
Real..!
Y una banda muy infravalorada, es excelente
de lo mejorcito sin duda ,autenticos musicos
Supertramp is so underrated they are on a whole other league

I have been listening to playlist curated by spotify , entire catalogue is filled with songs of 70’s. Its mindbending how good music was back then!!!
For me it was the best group of this era with the Buggles

the sound of that clarinet... ufff, they were just genius... such a good band. For me, one of the best guitar solos (because it's different to all others) is Goodbye Stranger final solo.
Huge band... I worked with a bloke in Ontario and had a music convo with him one night...his family was from England and he tells me his cousin is in a popular band...he was a total square and I asked him who he was...blown away it was John Helliwell LOL. I gave him a CD of Supertramp's Greatest Hits and he was blown away too! He'd never listened to them!
The klezmer inspired clarinet solo is perfection
My friend's mom drove us to football practice everyday and the Breakfast in America tape was the only album she played in her car. I must have heard Goodbye Stranger a hundred times that Summer. This was a true crossover album, teens and their parents liked this stuff.

The clarinet is god like omg, it literally is amazing.

80’s best rock ❤
Soulful, haunting music. One of a kind.
Started high school back in 79, so many dreams and hopes, sometimes think I shouldn't have bothered.
Ah me too. Although it all felt like it could be blown up in a minute back then.
Fine anni 80 che ricordi ❤
Nice music.🎵♥️🎵♥️🎵
The 70’s was a time of great music and lyrics. Nothing really made more sense the the songs back then. This is timeless music, something they don’t have now a days.
1979, Supertramp Paris
One of the best rock concerts ever.
I watched the concert on the Sky Arts channel recently. Luckily I recorded it. Seen it four times in the last week already. I had the Crime and Breakfast albums back in the 70s and played them a lot then, but not so much recently. These guys have gone right up there in my esteem. Terrific musicians and great songs. A shame they split like they did. It goes without saying they blow away most of the sh*t that passes for popular music these days.
Thanks for sharing. I never understood why this great band broke up and never got back together. From Argentine
Everything is in the old days. Nothing is the same as before.
In school in the UK we learned French from a book called La Tricolor and in it was a photo-story piece where French teens were asked who their favourite group was and they all said Supertramp. We thought this was hilarious because they'd faded years before 1984 when we were being taught. Cut to 20 years later in Normandy for my 1st visit to France my mother turns on the car radio and guess what? Breakfast in America!
This is surprisingly good quality for ‘79
This is exactly I was thinking. It can safely pass as a mid 2000's recording!
The utter genius of Supertramp will last for ever!
I never respond to comments. But have to tell you. Im almost 60. Saw supertramp at LA forum when I was about 16. My high school girl buddy loved Dreamer. Our favorite drive in the car and sing together song along with our 2 other friends. She passed away a year and a half ago. Today, halloween, and a blue moon, would have been her 60th birthday. Send love. Thanks
Back in 1979 I was into Ska , Electronic and post Punk but never appreciated SuperTramp until recently 👏👍

Supertramp Kings of the 70th!
There's nothing can transcend like a good song. I feel like I'm on top of everything and running at my best and the wonderous daydreaming starts where I see myself and others in a best utopian light. It's extraordinary.
Live performance perfection. You’d be lucky these days to hear any live performance this amazing.
Today its total CRAP.
