Imagine if Zod succeeded, then Steppenwolf and Darkseid will be met with a race of gods protecting the Mother Boxes and Anti-Life Equation
Holy shit yeah
Steppenwolf be like:
Yo can i get a world pass so i can get to my present box and do some ritual and stuff if you dont like that ill just leave you guys alone
They wouldn't of go to earth.. there were scared of Clark by himself..
Motherboxes won't wake up in that case. Steppenwolf said "No protectors here. No Lanterns. No Kryptonians." indicating that Darkseid's armies have faced Kryptonians before but was unable to defeat them.

Keep in mind, Kal struggled and did have some help. That, and Kal has been absorbing Yellow Sun radiation for longer so, despite their being biologically engineered, Kal had an advantage
This speech from zod in the beginning is so important. This is when we understand WHY he is what he is. He's not just "a maniac" he truly believes in the good of his actions.
Like Thanos.
Unfortunately like Adolf Hitler he was a sociopath.
@@who-ny5oe No doubt. But what he isn't is just another random bad guy just being bad for the sake of the plot. He has a reason, a motive we can understand and relate, even if we don't agree.

Superman: “yes.” 😐
Yeah
Like that's the whole point of the line
Roll the credits
He didn't train at all
Those darn barnyard fight clubs really paid off
Lol
Imagine being trained your entire life to master your senses and get beaten by a guy trained on a farm.
Zod was defeated by Kal-El's father despite being outnumbered. This shows that Jor-El's DNA gave Kal-El higher strength and intelligence than Zod. Though Zod was bred to be a soldier, Kal-El's DNA from the house of El was probably much superior. In addition, Kal-El had adapted to Earth's atmosphere whereas Zod needed more time
Yh but superman is stronger
@@demonhunter6832 yes Superman was constantly absorbing the sunlight for years. That makes him superior to any other Kryptonian. But zod still have better experience and skills. But if Kal actually learned and trained how to use his power. It would be a Different story.
Probably how vegeta felt when goku whooped his ass
@@shrujanamsyama9940 dude....zod almost killed him multiple times in this fight and he only absorb yellow sun radiation for one day whereas kal el has been absorbing it since he was a baby. If zod wins he can be more powerful than superman is and maybe can even take on doomsday better than kal el did.
0:42 i love this moment so much, because Zod's voice cracks at the thought of his people being dead, and it feels like he is about to burst into tears (which is not normal, him being from the soldier caste and so), but his rage against Clark and mankind is so big that he can't even mourne his people.
I love the look of sympathy on Superman's face there too. Like it breaks his heart too, but he had to choose, and he chose the people of Earth over Krypton.
What makes it interesting is that this is probably the first time in his entire existence that he's experiencing feelings like this.

Kryptonians are like Saiyans. They’ve always gotten the shit end of the stick but in reality they have that innate raw power that puts them above the whole universe.
Even steppenwolf scared of kryptonians. As he quote, "no protectors here.. No kryptonian.. No lanterns.." It seems kryptonians race is a threat to apokalips as the lantern corps do to them..
Zod was legit terrifying in this movie. Michael Shannon deserves praise.
micheal shannon is the only zod i will ever respect. this is one phenomenal actor.
Yeah definitely. Way better than Terrance Stamp
💯
A adapted zod wouldve destroyed superman and earths heroes and would be facing against darkseid and steppenwolf who is seeking to enslave the universe with the anti life equation. A noble ending for the true hero of krypton. Unlike superman, zod wouldn’t hold back against enemies attacking his planet.
I genuinely laughed at Terrance Stamp as Zod. And not in a good way. Zod is not a villain that should be laughed at. No disrespect to Terrance, he's a good actor. Just a terrible Zod
The sheer power of two Kryptonians fighting each other was actually breath taking. EVERYTHING is a weapon...even the buildings. This is what it looks like when Gods go to War.

Completely accurate. Two Kryptonians going at it should be like an atom bomb explosion. Critics suck.
They actually don't really know about DC(sorry for my bad english :(
100%. Idiots clearly don'to understand the power of these characters.
Also people seem to forget that when Superman fights strong beings, damage happens, When he fought Doomsday in the comics, Metropolis got f***ed right up. He's not a dam miracle worker. He's going to do what he can to save humans, but even he has his faults. I am certain the Reeves movies would have been the same way if tech wa as advanced liek it is now in the 80's.
In so many comics the damages were just as gratuitous
Fergus Phaserdeath i honestly didn’t mind the dialogue. But I like Zach Snyder stuff in general. The new justice league movie and some of stuff in BvS can mostly be blamed on warner brothers imo.
I absolutely love his justification for his behavior (Zod). It was literally in his genetic code that he was to protect Kryptonians. He wasn't evil, he wanted to protect his race.
It really hit me in the theater as amazing justification for his actions and it's amazing writing and dialogue from an average superhero movie
For someone who claims to be about protecting his species he went around killing a lot of them. If it hadn't been for the civil war he started Jor-El might have had time to convince the Council to evacuate as many people as possible.
The irony here is that his whole goal was to surpass the stagnant rule of krypton but he couldn’t surpass his programming; the same as the elites couldn’t surpass there own.
It’s almost like he rewritten his own coded purpose.
Yeah except for the fact he wants to cause genocide on humans even though it wasn't are fault all the kryptonians are dead also he wanted to terrorform are planet so it can be liveable for kryptonians on his behalf it might be good for him and his people but it's not good for us IMO good riddance to him
Wow he wanted to protect his race by destroying another race 😒 that's truly good
The sheer scale of destruction that’s displayed each time they clash is amazing. This movie is amazing

Most underrated delivery of a line in the whole movie. Sent chills down my spine when I watched this first time. Reminded me of a quote, "nothing is more dangerous than a man with nothing more to lose."
And Zod lost everything. If Kal let him live....hoo boy.
@Leah Peah no future)
Thought I'd drop in to remind people that a vote for a 'conservative' is a vote for a terrorist and also that 'conservatism' is terrorism itself. There's legitimately no such thing as a good 'conservative' and not even a dead 'conservative' is a good 'conservative.' A good 'conservative' simply doesn't exist.
Another thing the haters ignore or didnt pay attention to....ZOD specifically states "This ends only one way Kal!!......either you die or I do"
@@The_Knight_Rider1980 Indeed, Zod wasn't going to stop no matter what, with Kal even pleading with Zod to stop when the general tried to kill that innocent family, to which Zod simply responded with "Never". Oh, and earlier in the fight, Zod also stated his intent on making the humans suffer, that he shall take them all from Kal one by one, and then having said to Kal that the only way this fight is going to end is if either he dies or Kal dies (as you stated in your comment). Plus, Kal, at that point, had no idea of the existence of kryptonite, much less the negative effects it obviously has on Kryptonians. Even if he did, it's very hard to come by.
Furthermore, Zod is a trained general who's been bred to be the perfect warrior while Kal is just an inexperienced civilian by comparison, only getting by due to his greater experience in using his powers and having continually absorbed solar radiation for decades, and based on how fast Zod acclimated to both Earth's atmosphere and his powers (probably because of his training and self-discipline), I've no doubt that he would've surpassed Kal sooner than later and overpower him. Due to all of that, I've no issue at all with Supes killing Zod since the latter was far too dangerous to be kept alive. I apologize for making this comment long, it just really irritates me when some people stupidly condemn Kal killing Zod without looking at the situation logically.
There is no way James Gunn will be able to film a Superman fight as good as this. Damn Zack Snyder knows how to make action scenes.
I won't even watch any shit that he will produce.
Fr Zack Snyder is underrated asf I know his writing is not that great but just look at those action scenes. Who cares if he can't write? No director is good at everything. Zack is so good that James asked him to teach how to shoot action scenes for gog3. If he's this good at making fight scenes people should show some repesct to him like they do to other directors.
Just have Zack Snyder write the action scenes and James Gunn write everything else then we’ll get a perfect Superman movie tbh
I think James Gunn will do great story-wise, but I don't think he's very good when it comes to actions scenes with high power level characters
Damn right
This fight scene is very epic and amazing. Henry and Michael Shannon were fantastic, the line ''I have no people'' gives me chills.

BIG PUMA I mean seriously, I’m actually happy to see the destruction. Sure it was excessive, but I find it exciting!
Shannon is insanely underrated in this role, Zod is a hard character to bring to life from the comics, and he had to follow Stamp's iconic performance. He really is terrifying, but he also gives him humanity without making him too sympathetic. It really is an amazing performance. It deserves more praise.
Agreed. Hopefully he can pull off a repeat performance in the Flash.
You can really tell that his drive to fight Superman is because Kal-El left him no choice. A part of Zod doesn’t want to fight, harm, and possibly kill another last member of the Kryptonian race, but he’s really angry that Kal-El is challenging and antagonizing him. He’d sooner kill a human first than Kal but he knows he has to take him out first to even be able to do so.

Some movies get too into their head that a villain MUST be likable or overly sympathetic to make them memorable and/or deep.
But at the end of the day, all you need is a character with incredible conviction to make them memorable.
And Shannon absolutely shined in showing that off.
10 years later, and is still the best fight scene in any movie. Yes there are some frustrating moments, but the movement of Superman makes it the best.
Too many people only see the destruction and fail to appreciate what fans of Superman always wanted to see in live action, Superman fighting and using his abilities in an open world against a character of similar abilities, who could take the punches.
lol what did they expect when two literal gods goes nuclear against eachother? some light destruction? I think the reason people complain about too much destruction is because marvel movies are family friendly and dont show the true scale of sheer destruction of such a fight in real life. TBH i didnt see anyone complain about the destruction in age of ultron or winter soldier. i am sorry on behalf of those marvel stans who spread hate on DC movies for no reason

Zod is a sympathetic villain in my opinion, he was BORN to protect his home, and he's felt like all of this was just an obstacle, so he can bring it back, while slowly losing his mind
He is a tragic character full of anger and bitterness that never really had a choice in the matter. He was created to protect Krypton and its race survival, no matter what. Here after the flash movie really goes to show how strong Superman is compared to his cousin.
Idk why people think supergirl is stronger 😂 in the comics she’s a literal Wonder Woman victim, Superman is infinitely stronger
Superman by this point has adapted to Earth his entire life and supergirl only had a couple hours. If superman already had a hard time fighting Zod of couse that supergirl would be obliterated.
I’ll never understand how people love every marvel movie that comes out despite most being mediocre, yet not love this masterpiece.
Far from a masterpiece, though it was good but way too loud. I had to cover my ears in the theatres when Zod fought Supes and the intro with Krypton was painful. Not cool. Unfortunately it was downhill after that. They should have given us a proper Superman sequel, a Wonder Woman film, a Batman reboot movie, then perhaps a Trinity film. Then do Aquaman, Flash, and Justice League, although it doesnt have to be in that order. Instead, we got the trainwreck BvS. It also doesnt help that Snyder mocked Martian Manhunter.
Imagine a JL movie that didnt have to give origins or introduce multiple characters. That is why Avengers succeeded. The characterd already had their own fipms or at least appeared in other films prior. No need to give them a background. Thus the movie could start off with a bang.
imagine being a director, then being pressured by the corporate to make an avenger type movie as fast as possible, but that director have a vision and have made plan for the story, and then got backlash from the corporate that against the vision and story plan u made since the director use corporate's money, then being forced to integrated the rushness into the story u made in order to comply with corporate decisions. that can be what happen to zack himself, he gotta do what he can dealing with situation,
.
and whats wrong with not following marvel formula of origin movies first then team up, u have your own vision and story to tell, and i prefer not wasting my time of irrelevant stories like those countless marvel movies
.
what, zack mocked Martian Manhunter? u mean meeting with Lois? well, it is a questionable decision that zack use MM when talking to Lois, but through 2 films lois talk to MM more than Martha herself, maybe this time MM can help Lois this way, or did u mean in the end of ZSJL? It was supposed to be Wayne T Carr's John Steward Green Lantern but u know what, WB said no cuz they got plans with Green Lanterns characters, zack need to do with what he have

This is what a final battle should look like. Two characters, seemingly equally matched, giving everything they’ve got in one last stand. A showcase of their true power and ferocity. The music, the camera angles, all perfect. Every punch seems like it packs a megaton of force. The audience is in the middle of it, experiencing all the exhilaration. This movie was a prime example of a superhero movie and it doesn’t deserve the hate it got. It is up there with Wonder Woman and Shazam as the best DC movies.

This whole movie is flipping awesome. I don't get why some people hate on it. General Zod is so hard-core regarding Krypton. He was literally born to be a general.
After being forced to watch like 20 MCU movies it’s so good to see a final fight where people aren’t saying jokes and not taking things seriously when the villain is literally killing millions of civilians. Its also nice to see a genuinely threatening villain
Maybe because it’s dc Lmao
@Wes Bradley-Taubner they probably were lmao
thats what makes Marvel and DC different. "Every action I take, no matter how cruel, it's for the greater good of my people. And now, I have no people"
Man, that line cuts deep
@@andersondalmeus1406 I don't know...in context, it appears to be accurate. Ya, he'd do that stuff, and I agree it's probably a bad idea, but not to Zod. In his view, it was necessary for his people, because, the council and those bloodlines were leading/did lead to the destruction of krypton and his people.
@@andersondalmeus1406 your right, he does want to be the governing body, but that is because he thinks it is necessary. I think he said in the beginning of the movie that the council was just debating endlessly while the planet died. I think it was supposed to be a metaphor to our current climate change political situation. Anyway, then he said that they'd get rid of the defective bloodlines that led to their ruin, and Jor el was like "and who'd decide? You?" So essentially it was the old "my way is the right way, and everyone opposing it needs to be stopped or else we'll all perish." What I'm getting at is that, Zod thinks he'll make a better krypton. Also, terraforming earth wouldn't lead to the same mistakes necessarily, it was harvesting the core. He might do that, but it is not the kryptonian tradition to do so necessarily, so he may not (krypton harvested the core towards the end of it's life cause they thought they had to, not sure why, it's vague). It's hard to say if he'd do the same thing as the council as he doesn't really say what he'd do different, just that the council sucked. Maybe he just wanted to be in charge, it's certainly not far fetched, but not what everything else points to I think. I certainly don't think his speech in the video is off brand.
@@andersondalmeus1406 Oh ya, I totally agree he's a villian. Villians need to have a flawed outlook on things, otherwise they're not villians. Sounded like you thought Zod didn't genuinely think he was doing this for his people, and that the rest of the movie's context didn't fit the line. That's what I disagreed with.
@@t-moneymayhem7386 Villains don’t need to have a flawed outlook, their outlook just has to be opposite of the majority which makes them relatable if it makes sense.
I agree in that good villains are relatable, and that they can definitely make sense, but their outlook needs to be flawed. The reason why is that, otherwise, the villain is right and he is no longer a villain, but the antagonist, and the hero is no longer the hero, but the protagonist. I distinguish the two. Heros and villains are right and wrong or good and evil, protagonists and antagonists are sides of a conflict. Essentially, I think a villain should be understandable so he feels real, but still wrong so as to keep the hero the one your rooting for. Zod for instance is understandable in his putting krypton over humanity, but wrong as he really doesn't have too and its not "good" to sacrifice a race for your own.
The thing about Zod is, he literally could not have lived his life any other way. As he said himself, he was designed to be a warrior, and nothing else. While he was a very smart tactician and was smart enough to see through the council and try to restore krypton, his engineered DNA made him fail to understand free will and couldn't coexist with humans, unlike Supes. I love this guy!
We’ll never have it this good again

@@chidiebereama274 exactly. BvS explores that half of the people on Earth were terrified of Superman after this. God this movie keeps aging like fine wine. Michael Shannon is criminally underrated as Zod!
Yea
I disagree with this statement Actually, I find this movie to get worse and worse the more I watch it. I really liked this movie a lot at first, I actually thought it was great, but man the more times I watched it, I keep getting disappointed about how I kept noticing new problems I didn’t spot before, and it just kept falling apart, and I’ve started to realize how so much of the movie fails, An example I would give out of the many is Zod’s execution of his plan, how he puts the World Engine laser dead center in the middle of Metropolis full of millions of people. Does Zod not realize how he’s alerting the entire world to his location, including the one living person on the planet that has a chance at stopping them? Wouldn’t it make more sense to place it in the South Pole? And the North Pole? That way Supes Isn’t immediately on his him, trying to stop him? He probably would’ve had a much higher chance of winning if he did that, and he should have known that too, cause he’s supposed to be intelligent, but if you think about his plan more you start you realize he’s not very smart sometimes. Another scene is when he’s interrogating Martha Clark, and he thinks she knows the location of the thing he wants, but then his next action is so dumb how he throws a truck into her house! Like for all he knew the thing he was looking for was in there!! He could have destroyed it!! That would have ruined everything for him if so, but luckily he didn’t, so we’re just meant to pretend it’s fine. No it’s not fine. It was incredibly stupid. The action was still made, whatever the outcome ended up being, it doesn’t matter. Zod’s incredibly incompetent, and the worst part is that the movie pretends that he’s intelligent, and bred for war, but the way he does his plan is incredibly stupid, and shatters that interesting aspect of his character unfortunately, and people think Zod is a good character by the concept of what his character is supposed to be alone, but not really criticize wether if he executes it well or not. I like the concepts they have for Zod’s characters a lot, but I don’t think they were done as well as they could have been. I also thought Lois not being sucked into a Black Hole was really funny, and is the perfect scene to demonstrate how much plot armor she has.
Man, I’ve probably only discussed like 5% of my issues with this movie in this comment section, yet I’ve typed so much already. I can criticize so much for hours, and the ones I pointed here, honestly aren’t even that big of issues as some other things I have to say. to me, the film only downgrades more I watch it. I however still do love it’s visual’s and cinematography, my thoughts have stayed the same for those. I think those are both still amazing.
Yeah, anyways I don’t expect a lot of people here to agree, but that’s fine, I don’t even really expect most people to read through all of this anyways, just those who are interested.
