+Scho0rschi - at 0:39, he breaks the fifth barrier, going Hypersonic. If you count the first barrier the moment he took off. Absolutely fascinating scene!
I mean it when I say I was more terrified of Zod than Thanos. His anger and his rage seems so much more genuine. You can tell that he's really trying to do what's best for Kryptonians according to him.
I agree mostly. However Thanos wasn't supposed to be an angry or rageful character. In Infinity War, I actually found him to be much more 3 dimensional than any villain I've seen before, to the point where he almost isn't a villain. especially the scene where he has to sacrifice his daughter, and the end scene with him finally resting after completing his goal. his characterization as a villain was more apparent in Endgame since he wasn't really the focus anymore, causing his "human" side to fall away. Other than the sheer impending presence that Thanos was, I have to agree with you that Zod certainly felt like a character driven by genuine rage to restart Krypton to a degree that Thanos did not.
@@RiggedDynamo Thanos in the MCU is a dumb, stupid character. For a character who had been built up as a military and scientific genius on his home planet of Titan. He didn't know jack about economics, or ecological equilibrium. It is hard to sit through Infinity War knowing just how dumb Thanos is.
@Prince Raj Indeed. He could have increased resources but the population would still grow even if limited to one child so it would still be dumb and so is Zod for his scorched Earth policy buy destroying something his people would need.
I will never understand when people say this is a bad Superman movie. He's right in the center of the blast, taking all of its power at full force, yet he still stands tall with his fist in the air. To me, that's the most hopeful image you could create for a hero, standing strong against and overcoming the odds. To me, THAT is Superman!
I sat there, alone, way back when this movie was first released. Superman had always been my all-time favorite superhero, but, the previous movies and t.v. shows never quite.. Hit home like I wanted them to. Only the animated movies and shows did. But then.. Man of Steel came. I watched it.. and I watched all of the criticism and hate it received-- and I defended it to the bitter end, and still am. Those who have discovered how absurdly epic this movie actually is... Welcome aboard.
Lol yeah I was one of the few people who loved the movie back then too. It just shows that the movie aged extremely well and if it was released just a year or 2 later, it would've been even more loved.
@@eternalblessing4984 its a real shame people just hate man of steel because its a different interpretation. Its as if superman never had an interpretation outside of its very first comic.
This is the only live action interpretation of Superman that i loved... Because they were not afraid to show the reality of an alien invasion and what it meant to be an outsider plus just because superman has got super human abilities and wears alien clothing doesn't mean he did not live and was not raised by humans, superman was more human than most humans even batman admitted it. This was the best film.
If this movie came from Marvel, then it would have received insane ratings and response. I don't understand how some people could say this movie was bad.
I'd say it's because Marvel topped this movie a long time ago. DC doesn't get the plaudits because they're playing catch-up. DC does things that Marvel moved on from like a one or two or three years before. So, yeah... If this movie came out within Marvel's timeline, it'd be regarded highly, but with these kind of movies being mostly about "the spectacle", it's all been seen before and with much more humour.
ChildOfTheSun32 wrong they're not playing catch it. It has a realistic take. People can't get over Reeves fairytale Superman People assume Superman must be Superman even before Superman become Superman. DC made Superman struggle to become Superman. DC films aren't superhero movies they're drama films with superheros in it. And that's exactly why people hate it
What you said might have made sense if it wasn't for Suicide Squad and Shazam. What you have is a nice dream, but a dream none-the-less. The DCCU isn't as good as the MCU, and that's just the way it is. It's not something to be debated. It's something to be accepted and then move on.
ChildOfTheSun32 The DCEU movies draws inspiration, mental health, discrimination and other delicate subjects, each character has a deep history with personal demons. I think for most people it's not an escape from reality like Marvel movies, it's a look into the harshness of reality. DC movies aren't "Superhero movies" they're drama films with superheros in it.
The destruction unleashed by the world engine is somewhat unique and truly terrifying. The visuals and sound design coupled with the fact that this thing is drilling into a major city just feels different
Worst decision ever made for me is scrapping Snyder's work. The start of the DCEU was doing good until they come with shitty conclusions to destroy his vision. DCEU would've not stayed that long if it wasn't for Man of Steel, Shazam, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman.

@@officerspooder it's possible that its not Martian manhunter because from what I heard it's not cannon because WB wants to reboot everything again or make a sequel to the original theater release of justice league. Zack snyder did say he wanted green lantern but WB did not allow him so he used Martian manhunter instead. Again from what I heard, I may be wrong but I heard WB don't want the snyder cut to be cannon at all sadly. I would love for it to be cannon but WB it just not really doing a good job right now.
@@Indy921 That's complicated, WB are the only ones that insist on theatrical cut being canon, even the directors of the movies said they don't consider it canon. Officially this is canon to "Snyderverse" which is pretty much everything up to Snyder cut since it was planed that way before 2017. Jason Momoa and James Wan mentioned that they consider Aquaman to be canon to the Snyder cut, so that one could be aswell. That's atleast how I understand it. Anyway considering theatrical JL canon is like taking Disney Star wars seriously, so my advice: Pretend that abomination from 2017 never existed. Oh and I forgot to mention, Manhunter was always supposed to appear but only in that scene with Lois, the Green Lantern appearance that was replaced by Manhunter was that scene at the end, where he warns Batman.
I think the answer to that clearly comes in BvS, where superman is portrayed as a bad in media. Only after supermans death everyone decides to step out of their shadows and become the heroes they are
At this point The general wasn't Martian manhunter. Zack tried to make green lantern and told he was not to be used and opted for Martian Manhunter in JL.
the one thing that made this movie unique is how intense it made you feel on every scene you watched as if you are in a world who's fate hanged in a balance
This movie is a fucking master piece. over the years it will be understood and valued. Te best super hero movie in the human history. Every single frame is an art piece. Absolutely awesome
phuturephunk: It's because of the controversial scene where Superman snaps Zod's neck. It was because all the idiots whined about Superman not killing anyone ever. They couldn't accept that it had to be done. Supes can't imprison Zod in the phantom zone because it was closed. No cell on earth would hold Zod even if Supes beat the General to the inch of death. There was no Kryptonite at that time either.
The quintessential Superman moment for me. To never quit. Never back down and always try your absolute best against all odds. Not knowing whether he could survive it or not, Superman still did not give up. He did not stop because the entire world was at risk. A world that hated him in the next movie. With all that unimaginable gravitational pressure weighing him down, he still gave his all and pushed through and soared like a damn phoenix. How can you say this is not Superman after watching a scene like this?! My God I fucking love this movie.
I think what’s amazing about this scene, that isn’t stated but is apparent, is that technically Clark, during this moment, can hear every human in metropolis screaming and crying to be saved. Whether he can mute them out or not, He KNEW he had to give it literally all he had to save them. There was no room for failure! Gives me chills and gave Clark the motivation he needed.
Something that captured the essence of what Superman is is that he wasn't aware of what was going to happen, but went out his way to stop it. He did was right, without thinking too much about it
Pretty sure he can control his super hearing, at least as an adult. When he was a kid he couldn't control it and so even the most minute noises like a pencil gently tapping a desk sounded like a thousand drums being played simultaneously. He had to learn how to control his hearing otherwise he would've went crazy a long time ago.
@@controlman7490 he can control his hearing but that doesn’t mean it’s selective and he can actually MUTE things out. It’s about focus and paying attention to the sounds that matter. So he undoubtedly, due to the lack of focus during a stressful situation like fighting the terraforming machine, could hear everyone in metropolis crying for help.
@@Jwingmann No, I disagree as I said previously he would've went legitimately insane if he could hear the suffering of every single person on Earth. People get murdered, raped, tortured, enslaved, and kidnapped everyday and hearing all that crying and screaming would've broke him mentally. He can clearly control his hearing to the point where he can choose which sounds to focus on. That's why when Zod was harassing his mother and she started screaming he focused on her voice specifically and went to her or when he was in Metropolis and focused his hearing on Lois screaming while falling through the air even though others were screaming as well. This movie is all about him mastering his senses. Like I said when he was a child he didn't know how to reduce his enhanced hearing and so he could hear everything, which caused him to sensory overload, but with age he learned how to essentially "turn" his hearing on and off when he wanted to.
@@skywalkergaming7258 Wouldnt call it injustice supes tho, Snyder's Superman is actually evil because of Anti-Life, while Injustice Superman just became more ruthless and brutal to bring order and peace.

Love how it shows people being picked up and crushed along with the cars and rubble. Marvel would never have the balls to do that, make a movie with real consequences
@@ahmedmashhour1912 I thought bvs was good thematically but parts of it were poorly executed. The movies that were really worth watching for me from marvel were iron man 1, captain America 2, avengers 1 and 3, ragnarok, and guardians. Those were the ones where they gave the directors some creative liberty and they did something interesting or different. I’m a fan of the comic book (or story board originated) movies that have a real dark/gritty/stylized tone, like dredd, fury road, tron legacy, dark knight, those movies really left an impact on me. Marvel makes cookie cutter movies for the most part...very safe, appealing to the wisest possible audience, never a objectively bad movie (other than captain marvel) but rarely a truly good movie. I understand your point about DC though. They’ve put a lot of questionable choices in at the creative positions and are too worried about playing catch up to marvel instead of embracing what could make them great. Their movies are never consistent but I admire the fact that they take some risks. Suicide squad had a lot of good concepts but too many parts that shit the bed😂
You clearly haven't seen the rest of the movies and are only taking Avengers into context. There were always consequences and high stakes, albeit not many stakes in the first years.

Pattison's casting was hated, until his movie came out, now HE's the best Batman on Screen. People are still clamoring for the Christopher Reeve Superman. They got it With Brandon Routh, but, Routh wasn't Reeve. People complained about the lack of action. Snyder gave us a kick ass Superman. People complained he didn't show enough heart. There is no pleasing the Superman fanbase, point blank. Cavill's been great, but, we'll likely not see another Superman film for some time, unless Discovery steps in.
This makes the climax to The Avengers look like kiddie shit. And it's glorious. I also love that you see bravery of regular men in spite of the world-ending scenario whereas in The Avengers regular people are just there to run from explosions.

JL is what happens if marvel directed a dc movie. Unnecessary jokes and cringe one liners. Dc is meant to be dark and more scary. Not comedy My comment has aged really well After snyder cut
Nemenis DC can do things the MCU can’t and the MCU can do things DCU can’t. That’s why there’s no real point in fighting over which universe is greater. You can’t make heroes, such as Batman and Superman comical. It come off as cheap and cringy. Their backstories have defined their dark and saddened personalities. However, a universe that centralizes around a man out of time and an egotistical millionaire, can most definitely pull off these comedic bits. It’s been built to flow with their personalities. That’s why it’s such a shame that the DCU couldn’t stick with their formula. One thing they should have learned from the MCU is having a similar pattern and tone to your movies is not a bad thing. It thoroughly connects everything. We could have had two great universes, completely inverse of each other. However, all we’re left with on the DCU side of things are these greatly emotional and engaging scenes, that are a constant reminder of what could have been.
You also have to admit that besides the visuals, the acting, and everything else, the soundtrack makes this movie an exquisite masterpiece. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Hans Zimmer!
This is why Henry has the power to ask what he wants on his contracts. DC would know that they will go down if they do not reprise his role again because us DC fans love him as Superman. I can’t imagine anybody as Superman other than Henry
That was the moment when my perception of superhero films changed. I saw this in theatre. I've never seen anything like this before. I couldn't describe how scared and shocked I was, watching all that raw unadulterated destruction, people dying by the numbers, in a superhero movie. It was a superhero film and disaster film in one.
I tear up every time when Superman is trapped under the beam and summons the strength to rise because in a way, it echoes Jonathan Kent's sacrifice that ended up being pointless but it actually works here. As far as Clark knows, he might die destroying the World Engine but does it anyway to save the world. God I love this movie.
Hanz Zimmer, need I say more? Makes everything here so epic. It makes me fearless in the face of overwhelming odds, it makes me feel like I can achieve superhuman feats, it gives me hope.
This is easily my favorite Superman because he’s actually having a struggle and has to use will power and intelligence along with his strength to win this movie was amazing I don’t care what anyone says.
I saw this movie when I was sixteen. I went in by myself and actually cried during parts of the movie. This and a few other movies have actually shaped who I am. This movie was a once in a lifetime thing.
People shit on this movie for the destruction and how Superman did a shit job at saving people, but most of the city destruction (like 95%) was done by the World Engine terraforming, and not Superman vs Zod. Not only that but he was by himself facing 3 elite Kryptonian warriors.
this is one of the few hero/action movies that actually shows people being killed personally. Like you can understand the fear and the chaos of the world engine as it picks people up in their half crushed cars then hurls them into the ground. Other movies will have big explosions or the like but its always shown from afar, where the people being slain arent actually visible, nor can they be heard. I've always been a mad fan of the first independence day but for the most part the city kills are shown from a distance, theres some people yelling bits but you never see them actually getting killed. Its hard to assume people being thrown into the ground from half a mile up are going to be ok when you see the dust circles from the impacts
If you put this scene in slow motion at 4:20 you will see the Christopher Reeve Easter egg reference via his face. when I saw that when I went to see it and even now when I watch it I can't help but tear up because in a way it's like Reeve is passing the torch to Cavill
He understood it so much that he made her say "No one stays good in this world" ... to Superman .. the man who is the incarnation of optimism, hope and heroism. 🙃
"SnYdEr DoEsN't UnDeRStAnD mUh SuPheRMahn" The only one that doesn't understand Superman are those that complained because it was very clearly expressed in his lines AND actions as seen here.
@Anderson Dalmeus this superman wasnt superman. His clark is too similar, Clark us supposed to be a shy person, stuttering, slouches. Superman is supposed to he confident, happy, optimistic. Reassuring to others despite his own emotions
O Kay While you are correct, this was clearly a different interpretation of his character. Not every movie should be a Christopher reeves copy. In this movie I was pretty happy with it, only in BvS does his sully nature become a real problem.
I wish Hollywood would have given us at least 3 Henry Cavill-Superman movies. This is a GREAT movie. Well done. What is incomprehensible to me in this version of the Superman myth is why people turned on Superman in the next movie.. how much proof do you need to have that the alien Superman fought against his own people, condemning his own race to annihilation? He chose Earth instead of Krypton. He is a friend of all human beings.
People who always say why the people in BvS didn't go outside. DID YOU SEE THIS SCENE? HOW IS IT MORE SAFE OUTSIDE WITH THOSE MISSILES, JETS, AND DEBRIS FALLING OUT OF THE SKY
the part where Superman emerges from the train wreck and all the soldiers just stand there in awe and the way the captain says he is no threat and superman thanks him for it is a great part of this masterpiece
4:08 man this sequence, the weight, the shot, the overwhelming power of this whole scene. This is where Man of Steel was forged, the birth of Superman.

It was a philosophical movie ahead of it's time. A true masterpiece.
Well people wanted superheroes to eat burrito
It's a pretty good movie, has some issues. But MoS is superior to a majority of MCU movies that are mediocre and inconsequential

Because people are stupid. Marvel is a bullshit for kids.
What an epic movie. Best superman interpretation to date
Him breaking the sound barrier is orgasmic...
John Doe what sound barrier?
This movie was so badass, Zack Snyder actually did really well. I cant believe Warner Bros fucked up Justice League this much with their meddling. Either they should have fired Snyder after BvS or given him carte blanche on Justice League.
M Ragunathan Snyder is really good at "power trip" movies like 300 or this but that's it
Sound barrier breaks, when an object reaches supersonic speed like superman at 0:39
+Scho0rschi - at 0:39, he breaks the fifth barrier, going Hypersonic.
@@LordMalice6d9 The same thing can be said for Zod, why destroy a city in which you could live and use in. Almost all villains are dumb.
@Prince Raj Indeed. He could have increased resources but the population would still grow even if limited to one child so it would still be dumb and so is Zod for his scorched Earth policy buy destroying something his people would need.
@@davidcarter3830 The truth is that if you eliminate 50% of all of the living beings. You also eliminate 50% of the food. Thanos is so dumb I swear
4:33 I love that scream it shows his emotions. Such a powerful scene.
If this movie came from Marvel, then it would have received insane ratings and response. I don't understand how some people could say this movie was bad.
Martin Aloo Because it has a realistic take and people don't like it.
People can't get over Reeves fairytale Superman
People assume Superman must be Superman even before Superman become Superman.
So Superman basically saved the Earth by himself just like the avengers did but he did it by himself, people need to give him more credit.
Basically it's just 2 of the avengers, rest were trying to protect people.
Well duh, he's fucking Superman. He's basically limitless.
he's superman dude.
You do know that he is not real right?
He's basically all of the Avengers rolled into one person.
Tears in my eyes watching this movie. Only movie I’ve ever seen that’s made me cry. The music, the cinematography, so inspirational.
The destruction unleashed by the world engine is somewhat unique and truly terrifying. The visuals and sound design coupled with the fact that this thing is drilling into a major city just feels different
Unfortunately we wont see a super hero movie of this caliber for a long time.... #Releasethesnydercut
Yeah...I hope they bring back Zack to finish his vision..
Worst decision ever made for me is scrapping Snyder's work. The start of the DCEU was doing good until they come with shitty conclusions to destroy his vision. DCEU would've not stayed that long if it wasn't for Man of Steel, Shazam, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman.

This movie was great man people don't like stuff whit reality in it they like only nonsense comedy action mixed movies for kids.....
It's only America.

You are right it's a great movie but it's the only one that's worth watching from the new DC movies while Marvel has more than 10 great ones.

JL is what happens if marvel directed a dc movie. Unnecessary jokes and cringe one liners. Dc is meant to be dark and more scary. Not comedy
My comment has aged really well After snyder cut
I can’t imagine anybody as Superman other than Henry

this is one of the few hero/action movies that actually shows people being killed personally.
