My daughter follows you and sent me this video, I really enjoyed it! She makes journals and I sew primitive dolls and do some quilting. I love how you made your book binding with strips of fabric and also how you incorporated the strips of selveges! This book is amazing, thank you for sharing🥰
Oh I love this. I'm in the process of making a journal with fabric. However I am using thin muslin and I'm really wishing I had a nice drop cloth like you used. I'm 73 and I try However i can to make journals. I want this one to be a fabric journal all the way. I have some interfacing, I think I have some batting from my quilting days. I have stamps but I'm thinkin I'm using my inktense pencils on fabric. Yep I know how I'm going with it now. Thanks Julia. It was awesome to watch
These look wonderful. I love how you made what can be a complicated and time consuming process of journal making very simple yet they still look fabulous! Thank you for sharing.
Hi Julia I love your journals they are just fabulous. I was really taken with the way you sewed them together, at first I wasn’t too sure it would work but it certainly did and the little fringe all around each journal looks amazing. I am busy sewing gift for my granddaughters’ teachers and I use a lot of your ideas especially when using appliqué so a huge thank you for the inspiration and direction you give us all so freely, you are fabulous. Have a great week ahead, weather a little warmer here this weekend. All my love as always xxxxxxxx Dorothy 😘🙋🏻❤️🌟
Hi Julia - These are just so fun and whimsical. You always create the best things. These will go fast in your little summer shop. Love how you created these. Yumminess to play with. Hugs.
Dear Julie you are so creative your hands tell stories though out!! I’m from Mexico Maine ..right and left feet are broken so much fun but you make my evening better !! Brenda
Wow, what a generous and informative video. Not to mention inspirational! I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing so much wonderful information. I've been dying to make something like this for so long and now I feel armed with enough info to make it happen. I hope you're still creating! Thank you again. 🙏🏻❤️
Any. Plans to do a video on the fabric strip roll ? I do enjoy your videos so therapeutic during this awful pandemic... many thanks, keep going! P.s. I am in England. on the fabri strip roll
I love these so much!!! And great timing. I'm getting ready to create new art journals for the museum gift shop I sell in. These have given me new ideas! Always grateful for your videos! Happy mother's day!
As always enjoyed this tutorial so much Julia. Your creativity is truly a gift and oh, so inspiring ❤️Peace and many thanks for taking the time to make this tutorial. Love the unique way you joined the signatures with the cord.
These are fabulous! I love the design of using grommets on the cover to tie in the signatures and have the ability to add and remove pages. The cover designs are bright and cheerful. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us! I'm definitely going to "try my hand" at this! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. I have an old Singer that I've been using but it has only one stitch and is limited in its maneuverability. I'm wondering what machine you would recommend that will easily perform what you have illustrated but doesn't "break the bank."
Hi Kathryn, I am so glad you enjoyed the video! Most machines are capable of free motion stitching. Even really old ones. You do need to disengage your feed dogs. This is done by either a lever to lower them or a plate to cover them. You may need to look at your manual. If you no longer have the manual, you can usually look it up on-line or talk to a sewing machine dealer. You also need a quilter's free motion foot or a darning foot. These are available for most any machine. If you are looking for a new machine, I would get a mid-line price that has a lever to drop the feed dogs. Decorative stitches are fun but you don't need tons. I have a Juki and a Janome. I really like both. Hope this helps, Have a great day! Julia
Wow, not only wonderful journals, but a very clear and helpful video. Keep it up, you are a rare find for craft video presenters, you tell us all we need to know without the incessant babble that others go on with. Thank you, have liked and subscribed.👍 👍👍
A fascinating process - thanks for connecting with me. I love the textiles that you use. I need to learn some of your skills and bring them into my own junk journal creations!! I adore paper and do use watercolour paint in my art and junk journals. Will be popping back to look at some more of your creations. Bye from England, joie xx
Hooray! Been waiting for more of your "drop cloth" videos. I have a drop cloth that's 6'x9', all washed and dried and ready to go. I've got all the supplies....just needed the inspiration. I get that from you. I see on the close up of your free motion that your canvas looks like mine and feel much relieved. I bought my drop cloth at Amazon for aprox. $10. I've been curious about your brand of archival ink. I wanted to buy some but since I have both the Ranger oxides and inks and many of the pads have dried up, they have disappointed me in general. (sorry Ranger).
So glad I found you. I am really enjoying spending 'quality' time with you !!!! I think I need to get a free motion (???) sewing machine. What sewing machine do you use ????
Hi Ann, I have a Janome Memory Craft but most sewing machines are capable of free motion stitching. The feed dogs need to be disengaged. This is done by either a lever that lower the feed dogs or a plate that covers them. You will also need a free-motion quilting foot or a darner foot that fits your machine. A sewing machine dealer can help determine the right foot. Hope this helps, I am glad you found my channel:) Julia
I love this journal! It is absolutely gorgeous!!! 😍 I was completely mesmerized by the stitching motion. You make it look so easy, but I would never want to try!! LoL Thanks for sharing 💜
I really appreciate that you don’t talk me to death but rather SHOW how to do things!!!

This is the video that introduced me to,free motion and my new found love hobby! Thanks Julia 😊
Isn't it fun?! I am so glad you found this video as your inspiration. Free-motion stitching really opens the door for creative sewing.
