I love the old patterns! They bring back many good memories of pick out patterns and material with my Mom in the little fabric store in our small town. It was such a treat for me. Later I enjoyed picking them out for myself and sewing simple patterns. Great memories. Thank you Julia.

i agree!!! the Dresden plate, you need to save it for yourself. ii love it. the stains, if you want to try to get rid of them, try soaking in Oxyclean. get some Whink, rust & stain remover from Walmart, use it, the stain goes away. it is a rust remover. i love everything you do. you are really HIP!!!! we are probably the same age, too!!!

I have been hoarding my true vintage patterns and fabrics for awhile now. Now I know what to do with them. I can’t wait to try to scan some of my fabrics after I collage some of them. Thanks for sharing. I just had a thought, if you back both the pieces of fabric for the middle with heat and bond, you can place both of the down at the same time and iron it down before stitching it and it should make it more durable. Over time I’m sure that just stitching it would cause the pattern envelope to tear more easily. If you don’t have heat and bond you can use plain Elmers Glue and hit it with an iron and it will do the same thing, just use enough to temporarily tack it down that way the glue doesn’t affect the needle going thru the glue. I use this method sometimes when quilting.

OMG! Before you even started talking about that last pattern cover that you had made I squeeled for joy as I had it too!! I remember it like it was yesterday. I made that top in 'Home Ec" in 8th grade and then went on to make a couple more later along with a 'maxi' skirt. We even had a 'fashion show' at the end of the year to show off our items. Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane. I LOVE these journals. What a great way to use up all those things we have been hoarding for way to long. ;)

Julia I love the journals. I lucked out at a thrift store. The patterns were 10 cents each and I found about 30 vintage patterns. How lucky is that . I thought about you.

Hi Lovely Julia, I love these journals they are just gorgeous. My uncle was in the Royal Navy during the war and visited USA, he stayed in the Navy for many years after and I remember him bringing us some Sears magazines in 1958 from New York, my goodness I loved them especially the girls’ dresses. I wish I had those catalogues now Julia. Your gorgeous journal covers reminded me of those catalogues. What a fun project, you really explained the process so clearly, I am sure these journals will fly out Julia. I really look forward to your vlogs and seeing your happy face, your hair really suits you in that style. The weather here is starting to turn more autumnal and the evenings are drawing in so more time for sewing. I hope you are keeping well Julia, sending you all my love as always xxxxxxxxx Dorothy 🙋🏻😘❤️🌟

Hi Dorothy, I have a 1959 Spiegel catalog. I love it! I agree the dresses are amazing-and the prices!! Thank you so much for the comment on my hair. I was disparate for a change. The weather is changing fast here. We are under a storm warning. Some areas are forecasted for heavy snow. Looks like our area will get lots of rain. Great time to hide in my sewing room LOL! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Hugs, Julia

Love being reminded about the styles that I saw come and go throughout the years. I remember smock tops, granny dresses, shirt dresses and hip huggers to name a few. Who doesn’t remember Diana Riggs’ Mrs. Emma Peel and her “catsuit”. Hemlines were from micro mini to maxi among so many more fads. I remember when I first heard about panty hose and braslips. What garments were made of was very interesting, too. “Paper”, vinyl (the Wet or Slick Look) and the skyrocketing popularity of suede and leather head to toe.

    Hi Julia,
I love your voice and watching your creative tutorials!
Watching this one, I wonder why when you connect the patterns with trim, why you cut it before you sew the back trim on. I would think it would line up easier and leave a neater finish to just fold it up from the bottom before sewing the back.
Again thanks for all the inspiration Julia 😊
