Hi Kari. I put the watered glue in a bowl and put the fabric in that, squeeze it out and let dry. It's faster that way and I can do a batch of fabric. I love what you've done! TFS.
OMG! You just reminded me of something we used to use when I used to work in a fabric store. I forget the name of it but there is a product that you brush onto fabric that turns it into paper. You can tear the fabric like you do paper. Oh darn ! I can’t remember the name of it. It gives almost the same result you got but you start out with fabric. I will check it out and get back to you about it.
If you wanted an aged or distressed look you can put instant coffee in the water you mix the glue in and it will "paint" it with a patina Loved the colours and patterns in the sheeting one :)
Can you tell me what her glue:water ratio is? I heard it (I think) the first time I watched this vid and failed to write it down, now I’ve watched 3 more times and get so distracted watching the process, I miss the ratio. I tried wining it, but my tissues lifted from the fabric 😢. Please help a fellow crafter with an attention problem 😅.
@@stellabella6839 Start with a 1 to 1 ratio and add more glue or water til it looks like hers. Keep your paper on the plastic base, and peel it off after it dries completely.
This is such an incredible method, producing a unique, useful, and beautiful material for arts, crafts, journaling. I don't know how I've never encountered this technique before as I have been crafting for 60 years and have watched 1000s of youtubes in the last several years. Thought I'd see and tried it all. This absolutely blows me away! TFS.
Thanks Diane! I am surprised you haven't seen it before, but sometimes we miss things if it shows up at the wrong time. It is great fun and I shall be doing some more experimenting with different substrates and layers - as well as embellishments! 💗💗
This is amazing, I am very into painting and sewing and wow! This is a combination of both! 😮😮😮😮😮😮❤❤❤❤ I never thought about it! I am definitely going to do something with this idea, thank you very much!
I’m researching some ideas for a project for art class using fabric, and I came upon this video, and all I have to say is WOW, I have NEVER seen something so cool as this. It absolutely blows my mind, you are VERY talented!👏🏻
Totally different from what you’ve done here but I’ve got my grandma’s McCall patterns that I’ve been holding on to until I could think of how to display them. I’m going to make some fabric out of them. Thank you so much for the inspiration
I've just learned about this technique (joomchi - fabric paper) today and am absolutely enthralled. I plan to use it for a wide range of sewing/quilting projects and even experiment making fabric bowls and vases. Thank you so much for the demo!🥰😍💝
Joomchi! I knew there was a craft that would use up my fabric, papers, cheesecloth, paper doilies, etc! Thank you for mentioning this! Just found Kari today, and I love her channel!
I had a go and decided I was too impatient to spend time smoothing out cheesecloth with PVA glue and a brush. Instead I used a plastic bowl (glue will peel out of it if dried) and put my cheesecloth in the bowl and added diluted PVA and mixed it in the bowl with gloved hands. Smoothed it out on the plastic trash bag and it was wonderful. *Caveat* sweet little feral Tillie hasn’t learned the ways of being a house cat with a million art projects going on at once. I heard her crying and came down to find a ton of cat hair and paw prints in the tacky glue. A quick wipe down with a wet washcloth and she was good to go although I did consult a Vet and she said it was not toxic to cats in the small amount she probably ingested. So a potential disaster now has a sentimental touch.
Oh Kate, that's hilarious, or should I say, hairlarious! Tillie is a little bundle of mischief, but I'm glad the glue is non toxic to cats. The bowl idea is a good one, I think I'll do that next time, you are so clever to figure that out. 😀💗💗
I’ve just come upon you channel and you mentioned you were coming up on 3k subscribers and look at you now! What wonderful growth!!! Congratulations! Love your fabric papers ❤!
Making a garden journal for 2023 year of gardening. A fabric cover would be wonderful. Also, my sister sews. Using the sewing pattern pieces would be fun on a card for her. thanks for the FUN!!
Oh yes, great idea, Yuna, old style net curtains would be lovely. Hmmm, I also have some voile type fabric too... I think I will be doing some more experimenting! 💗💗
I made some of these! I used tissue paper for one and I experimented with book pages with script. Looks great! If you crumple these up and then smooth out it get textured and really cool too!
Absolutely love this! I had done this what seems like eons ago. Since I have been using napkins in my journals lately, I have bits and pieces of great color pieces left over that I could not part with. What a wonderful way to use them up! ❤️❤️❤️
Yes, it is a loooong time since I had done this, I was wracking my brain trying to remember how to do it. Yes, it is a great way to use the napkins, I have a habit of hogging them, LOL! 😂💗💗
Fabulous! Great cover. I also like that it is strong, fabric, and translucent. Would love to know how it stands up to wear and tear over time. About 5 years ago, I made a cover for my checks using two layers of brown paperbag paper painted with acrylic paint. It has taken a beating in my purse because I have my eyeglasses, my wallet, and keys in there. After about 5 years, it is beginning to show some wear around the corners and some edges. I used some bookbinding tape on the fold to protect it. Everyone thought it was leather. They had a hard time believing it was paper. I thought it would only last a few months. To my surprise, it has been over 5 years
Oooh, I did something similar but without the layer of fabric. What a great idea to add such a layer to make it more sturdy! Love both results! I really must try this technique with napkin too.
Thanks Julie, I have done it with silk fibres in the past and they are strong! I rather wish I had some soft batting or something, then I could quilt it! The napkins are lovely, yes try it! 💗💗
Oooh lovely! Must admit I’ve never seen this idea before. My ‘girls’ look to me for new ideas and I think, well I know, one of them would be very interested. A small group of us, 5 in total, meet every Friday afternoon for a variety of crafty stuff, eg. cross stitch, chicken scratch, embroidery, making and covering boxes, mosaic work … I’ve got them making felt ornaments and after finding a huge box filled with silk scarves of all sizes (you wouldn’t believe it) I’m working on how to simplify silk painting in the room we have allocated just for us! They have done scrapbooking but as everyone is French they stick to regimented designs, so boring I could die! So back to this project it’s certainly got me excited! Never done journaling myself but it’s something I may like 🤔 …. I have a few sketchbooks in my stash because I can’t resist buying them …. I was thinking of making a book cover for one … do you think your idea is flexible for a hard book cover? Anyway must dash as it’s Friday and the girls are meeting up! I’ve subscribed because your ideas are gorgeous and you sound like a lot of fun!
Your gatherings with your friends sounds fabulous, what a lot of fun that must be! Yes, the fabric is great for book covers, I have made a lovely journal cover with mine and it holds up well. Have fun with your friends today! 😀💗
I love the colours in this demonstration. It turned out beautifully. I can't wait to try some of these pieces and I think I will sew a few large envelopes to use a wrapping for special presents ie clothing or books. Love it.
I've been making fabric paper now for many years. I've been using the material in my mixed media art, for my Spirit dolls clothing as well as junk journals. Don't ya just Adore the feel of the finished product!
Thanks Linda, oh how cool that you use if for your spirit dolls, I am going to have to try that too, I love making spirit dolls. Yes, I do adore the feeling of the finished product, it is so interesting and versatile! 💗💗
Thanks so much, Sandi. Yes I have to do some more experimentation as so many ideas have been suggested to me to try and also new ones have popped into my head, it will be fun! 😊💗
I've used a similar tecnique to make a long hinge on one side of two pieces of card, hardboard or thin mdf to make a front and back cover for a folder or book. I've used a piece of old bed sheet cut to length and stuck down like you do by soaking the fabric with pva glue and leaving to dry. It creates very strong and flexible hinge which can be painted or left as it is. I've also pasted several coats of pva on the hinge to make the hinge even stronger.
This is a new, fun looking skill! I was mentally combing my paper/crafts supplies to think of what I could do! This is the first time watching your channel, so I have subscribed and know you will reach 3,000 very soon! Thanks for showing us how. I think I may have some binge watching to do. I love this technique, I've never seen it before, so thanks for sharing! I love the variety of textures, colors and how pliable the fabric paper is. So inspired! Just subscribed and I hope that you make it to 3,000 subscribers soon!

Thank you so much Danielle, yes, it is amazing how many lovely new people have joined me here, it makes me very happy! I am glad you like the fabric paper, I hope you give it a go too! 💗💗
Made this donkeys years ago with my eldest sister. Such good fun but messy as heck! Lol. Thanks for bringing that memory back, im happy its still going on.
I made something like this using fabric as the base, adding tissue paper and bits of fabrics. I wrote all over it, covering the words with tim holtz tissue paper, stamps and anything I could find. It turned out beautiful. I gave it to my best friend because she loved ut more than me!
I like your attitude - experiment and learn! I've literally been doing a fabric painting experiment with this video playing next to me for a bit of company and visual inspiration. The translucent paper with the floral design is gorgeous! My experiment has produced mixed results - some parts are good, so I'll remember that technique, and some parts are truly awful, so onto the next technique experiment for those. I'm taking notes, and hopefully I end up with something that's excellent from top to bottom. Thanks for chilling with me today.
Thanks Alex, I totally agree, experimentation is key to figuring out what works and what you like best. I am glad you got some good results and some information from the not so good results, it all helps in the long run! 💗😊💗
I wonder if you could put the watered down glue in a spray bottle just to make the first step of saturating the fabric easier. These are just lovely and very creative!!
Great idea, Lee, someone in the comments a while back, suggested brushing the glue on the plastic sheeting first, before putting the fabric down. I tried it and it made things a lot easier! 💗💗
I have tried this so many times watching others make it and mine always cracks when trying to fold it so I have given up making it. Yours looks Wonderfull. TFS.
Both are beautiful, but I especially love the transparency with the cheese cloth...I'm envisioning stained glass...can't wait to try this!!! I love this concept. I don't know who first thought of doing this but wayyyy to think outside the box, somebody!!!!! I've got all the ingredients now, just a matter of time to dedicate to this. Thanks for sharing !!!!! 💙🥀🤗🥀💙
Lovely result! 💙 And congrats on going from 3k to 33k in the two years! My daughter is a junk journalist and I hope to make something like this for her! ☀☀☀
This is just so pretty! I am trying to figure out how to use this in my sewing, I make a lot of hats and this would be so awesome, and much less than a "Magnolia" type of hat, but I don't have $400 for a hat LOL! THANK YOU!

What type of glue
@@sjoy4658 PVA glue 😀❤
I was thinking this same thing as I watched. Glad to know that this works!!
You can also use clear silicone caulk, spread it evenly across the whole of the project, let it dry, and then it's waterproof!
Oooooh, I have some of that, I will try it - thanks for the tip, April! 😀💗
Interesting. It may resist cracking as well, being for rubbery?

I made fabric paper many years ago when I was into art quilting. It’s so fun! I think using it for journal covers is brilliant! Also if you ever start your own girl group you could be “Kari and the Magentas” 🥰😂
LOL, "Kari and the Magentas", that did make me laugh! Thanks Laura! 💗💗
What is art quilting exactly?
@@kathysunshine699 Creating a quilt with a picture or scene on it, rather than just a traditional repeat pattern of squares or 'log-cabin' design.
I love this method...I've done it already on other mediums, will give it a go on sheeting next, thank you for the tutorial.
Thank you, it makes a great fabric, I really like it. Sheeting works well! 💗😊
I love this technique, I've never seen it before, so thanks for sharing! I love the variety of textures, colors and how pliable the fabric paper is. So inspired! Just subscribed and I hope that you make it to 3,000 subscribers soon!
Thanks Nadine, I am glad this is new to you. I had done it a long time ago, so I had to wrack my brain to remember how to do it. I think it is going to be something I will experiment further with over the weekend! Thanks for subscribing, yes 3K is coming fast, it is amazing! 💗💗

Great tutorial. Many thanks.

PURE GOLD!!!....LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!....cant wait to try it...have an awesome day!!!...Maxxii-Michelle...Perth Australia xxxxx
Hi Maxine, thank you so much, yes, give it a go, it makes a lovely material! Have a wonderful day over there in Perth! 💗💗
My first look at your videos.. Wow, this was super fun and creative. I’m excited to give it a try. Thank you! Fun!!
I made something like this using fabric as the base, adding tissue paper and bits of fabrics. I wrote all over it, covering the words with tim holtz tissue paper, stamps and anything I could find. It turned out beautiful. I gave it to my best friend because she loved ut more than me!
That sounds really amazing, what a great piece it must have been. Thank you very much! 💗😊💗
Oh, Kari I just want to let you know you are abwonderful artist. Thank you for sharing ❤
You are so kind, thank you very much Karen! ❤️
Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!
Thank you very much! 💗😊💗
The fabric is lovely! Thank you for sharing this technique!
Thank you very much Linda!
Recycling at its best ! Clever thankyou
Thank you very much! 💗😊💗
Wow! Now i understand why i saved tissue from packages over the years! Thank you for sharing.
LOL, welcome to Hoarders Anonymous! Yes, now you can use that tissue! 💗💗
I love this!! I am going to try it😊
Thank you, yes, give it a go, you will love the results Michelle! 💗💗
I have tried this so many times watching others make it and mine always cracks when trying to fold it so I have given up making it. Yours looks Wonderfull. TFS.
Try again Nancy! 💗💗
I just read another commenter mentioned that she used bookbinding tape to protect the fold. Maybe that would work or possibly decorative duct tape?
Wonderful demonstrations! Gave me new ideas to use in covering little books. Thank You!
Thank you very much Sharon! 💗😊
Now I know what to do with my fabric scraps! Super fantastic idea! Thank you!
Thank you - have fun with your fabric scraps! 😀❤
