I wanted to thank you for not dragging on when you introduced what you were doing. I generally end up scrolling through 2 minutes of the host blabbing on. And I LOVED your technique. I am going to Dollar Tree this morning. Thank you so much!!
Huge Japan fan here and very familiar with Mick Karn's work. Glad to see him featured here and getting the attention he deserves. Thank you for taking me down memory lane.
I think I like them all, becuz you were able to try lots of NEW ideas,. I think I would like to try pieces of cut threads, on or under the napkins, I saw this done on treasure books, I think that's her name.
Hey fellow crafters...don't forget to subscribe and then comment and hit “like” on ALL of our awesome craft channels and videos, every single time, to help keep them going strong. They NEED our SUPPORT!
Love these! Thanks for sharing! I think some of them have a very Halloweeny feel to them. The tissue paper with the vintage photo oxide spray looks like a tree on the left side with lots of leaves falling. Then the small piece of pattern paper with the espresso spray reminds me of the Hound of the Baskersville. Love them!
So excited to try this with sime pastel napkins and patterns. I have tried it before, But I never thought to add color to my glue mixture or spray the stains on when wet. Squeal! Thank you!
I have a question. How do you dry the papers once you peel them off the mat? Do you lay them over drying racks or maybe clip them onto a line? Or do you just leave them right on the mat until they dry. Do they come off easily ?? Sorry for too many questions
No worries at all! I leave them to dry on the mat, and since I use a nonstick surface (or cereal bags that are non stick) they peel off rather easily :)
Just like you said, I like them all for different techniques. Love the napkins for the texture, the tissue paper for the transparency and the patterns for the fun. These look like glassine paper as well. Is the glue just a PVA glue? Just white school glue?
These look fantastic!!! Nice job. I love them all. I thought "treasure map" too with the darker one. You need a treasure map napkin or tissue paper!!! Think pattern piece is especially nice. But I like them all same. I wonder if coloring paper BEFORE putting glue on would be good?? I've done 1 piece of white napkin with coffee glue before. It came out great. Just haven't gotten to making more. Thx for great video. Austin,TX USA
Just found your channel. Love the technique. I will have to try it. I live in SW Georgia and it is very humid here. I wonder if you heated your oven to say 200 and turned off and place papers in oven over night if that would help drying and stickiness.
I’ll have to look up oil paper, so I’m not sure exactly… I use them as pages in junk journals with a pamphlet stitch, or I have created pockets with them by just using my Bearly arts liquid craft glue. :)
Very nice! They are each interesting on their own. Did you spray or drop on the Distress Sprays after you had painted with your glue mixture while they were still wet? Thanks.
I've tried this technique several times and my pages are not very crinkly and one side is always kind of sticky....I live in Colorado so it isn't humid, I've waited 24 hrs...just not having any luck...watching your video makes me want to try again, but this time I'm going to use really cheap glue and see if that makes a difference
I'm a little confused. When you use a bag from a cereal box, is that part of the paper when done? Or do you peel the material from it and reuse the cereal bag? Plus, you also mentioned mats. Where do you buy those? Your end result is beautiful!
I just use the cereal bags as a place to lay the napkins/etc. while they dry since the napkins don’t stick to it when you they dry and you tear them away. You could also use non-stick mats like this… shrsl.com/3vi13
I've don't comment often on video's but if your going to recreate a persons video you should give them a mention. Treasure Books, had this Rice Paper video out before yours and she explained how she came up with the technique of doing the edges of paper like you demonstrated. Lets all raise each other up and not step on anyone's back to do it.
Hi Missy! Thanks for watching. I didn’t claim at all to come up with this technique. I simply thought I would video my process and share it with my own followers. I’ve seen this done by many people on RUclips and didn’t know who came up with it “originally” (although someone else on here commented that this has been done since the 70’s). I’ll happily add her video to my description, although that’s not who I originally saw it done by here on RUclips. I’m clearly not attempting to “step on anyone’s toes,” just thought I would share my process. You’ll be happy to see her video tagged in my description now. Again, thanks for your input and have a wonderful day.
Also, as you can tell from my description (which I’ve copied and pasted), I didn’t claim it was “my idea”…. I saw it done by so many people I didn’t know who the “original idea” came from. From Description: “I know that creating your own faux rice paper has been trending here in the papercrafting community, and I decided to jump on the bandwagon and show you how I created my own using Dollar Tree Supplies.”
Please don’t be offended, but why is everyone calling this “rice paper”? I do traditional Chinese brush painting, on Xuan, or “rice paper”..which isn’t actually made from rice. (Henry Li, a professional artist, has some videos touring a traditional paper factory in China) This glue paper, (which, to be honest, is something we used to do in the 60’s and make pins and stickers cut out of it..but we just called it glue paper), is NOTHING like actual Xuan or “rice paper”. I have probably 8 different types, raw, (unsized), semi-raw, (partially sized) and ripe, (sized) papers, both handmade and machine made, as well as Korean bamboo paper they call rice paper. NONE, even the paper I sized myself with alum and peach sap gum, have a plastic feel like glue paper. Just trying to understand how this got renamed “rice paper”? Your video and others were recommended next to my Chinese painting friends videos. I highly doubt this would be a good medium for watercolor.
Point taken. BUT if real rice paper isn't made from actual rice then someone could argue that it was misnamed too! It's best not to get too hung up on names and just go with the flow. Of course, if you are using rice paper as a painting substrate then you should already know the difference in the same way that I know the difference between real "onion skin" paper and whatever it is these days they are calling onion skin paper. Creating is supposed to be fun and not a splicing and dicing of words and names.
I wanted to thank you for not dragging on when you introduced what you were doing. I generally end up scrolling through 2 minutes of the host blabbing on.
And I LOVED your technique. I am going to Dollar Tree this morning. Thank you so much!!
Haha thank you so much! I try to keep it as short and sweet as possible. 😉
Thank you for your explanation ,useful extra informations and sharing, useful for beginners like me 🌹💚💙🌱🌳🙏
Huge Japan fan here and very familiar with Mick Karn's work. Glad to see him featured here and getting the attention he deserves. Thank you for taking me down memory lane.
I've tried before and enjoyed. I'll try again with coffee. Thanks. ☕😁❤️👍

I think I like them all, becuz you were able to try lots of NEW ideas,.
I think I would like to try pieces of cut threads, on or under the napkins, I saw this done on treasure books, I think that's her name.
That’s a great idea! ♥️
I really like them all, the best though is the napkins.
They certainly could be used for a lot of things thank you for sharing❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching! :)
Great video... great idea. I like the pattern paper ones the best. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching!!
I think I love them all, would have loved to see how some maps and pages of books would have looked doing this technique..
That would be a good idea!
😮 I really like this you could use them in a travel Journal what's Bonanza burning across the screen
Thank you. Can’t wait to see how you use them in your journal.

You are so very clever. The papers look more durable than rice paper.
Thank you Barbara. It definitely is!
Thanks for sharing this technique. What a fun idea!

Wow very lovely pieces!!! I can't wait to start making them as well. Thank you so much 💗 💓
Hi, thanks for that video! Can't wait to try this... I would like to know where I can get the same silicone mat you are using please. TIA
Thanks for watching! My non stick mat I use is this one… shrsl.com/43h4h
I live in Southern Nevada and fortunately my papers dried in a few hours. Outside. ❤
So cool. Can't wait to do this. I may place it over ephemera to age it
Yes! That would be perfect!
The napkin paperworks great. More texture
Thank you!
I love the smell of coffee but have never enjoyed drinking it. These are so fun!!!🌷🌷🌷
Same here! ☺️
I have a question. How do you dry the papers once you peel them off the mat? Do you lay them over drying racks or maybe clip them onto a line? Or do you just leave them right on the mat until they dry. Do they come off easily ?? Sorry for too many questions

Loved them ALL
Thank you!
Love it thanks for sharing
I like them all but the transparency my favorite and then just depends on what you are using them for.
Excellent demo!
Thank you!
These are fabulous faux rice papers. Love the technique. Thanks for sharing.
thank you for showing the different textures materials. once dry can you put them thru the printer like a sheet of paper.
You know, I’m not positive about running it through a printer…. Plus I’m not sure if the ink would smear or not?
Just like you said, I like them all for different techniques. Love the napkins for the texture, the tissue paper for the transparency and the patterns for the fun. These look like glassine paper as well. Is the glue just a PVA glue? Just white school glue?
Yes, just cheap white school glue :)
Grey vidy thanks for sharing ❤❤❤💐💐💐
Thanks for watching! :)
Amazing!!!!!❤❤❤❤
I like what you’ve done plus your quick explanations. I’m wondering, have you read about those old green book covers containing bad chemicals?
So beautiful idea❤❤thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Oh I love all of them too! Thanks for sharing🤗
I like all of them! What a fun technique
It is so fun! ☺️
I have a mega large roll of freezer paper. Would that be usable for this project?
I think it would work :)
These look fantastic!!! Nice job. I love them all. I thought "treasure map" too with the darker one. You need a treasure map napkin or tissue paper!!! Think pattern piece is especially nice. But I like them all same. I wonder if coloring paper BEFORE putting glue on would be good??

Ooo a treasure map would be so fun!
I use colored napkins.

I’m not sure? I live in NC, and it’s pretty humid too…. It eventually dried, but it did take a bit.
Love it all
Freezer paper works great as a non stick surface
Oh yes! That would work great as well! :)
Yes, but parchment paper does Not Work -- even the shiny side sticks :-(
I'm sorry, was it normal glue you used or like a mod podge? Thank you!, going to subscribe!!
Just normal school glue. 😉
Thanks💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
So cool!!! I love them all !😍
Thanks Kathy! They are really so fun!
Is the rice paper similar to oil paper? How do you adhere it the pages of your book? Glue?
I’ll have to look up oil paper, so I’m not sure exactly… I use them as pages in junk journals with a pamphlet stitch, or I have created pockets with them by just using my Bearly arts liquid craft glue. :)
Very nice! They are each interesting on their own. Did you spray or drop on the Distress Sprays after you had painted with your glue mixture while they were still wet? Thanks.
I splattered the distress sprays while it was still wet with the glue mixture :)

Can I use wax paper, baking wax paper? Thanks, blessings from P.R
Those are so cool, I have been wanting to try this technique! I think I love the napkins most!
I think that’s where I’m leaning too!
Great job I can’t wait to play with all the textures.
I wish we didn’t call these beauties, JUNK JOURNALS
First stamps on that after it's dry
BTW, subscribed.
What do you make with these?
I make junk journal pages or pockets with mine. :)
I really like the technique but have looked for a recipe. Could you send it to me please 🥺
Marietta Billups
I’m going to try it on pages from a hymn book……. Hmmmm
That will be fun!
What did you do with them
I’ll incorporate them into my junk journal, but I’m waiting to start that until June when I have a couple more pieces ready. ♥️
👍👍👍💕💕💕🇩🇰
You could make something that looks like leather
The video where I think some of the inspiration came from: ruclips.net/video/_EY4rcfdUX8/видео.html
I think so too. Now it seems like many crafters use her technique of squishing the edges.

Most call it faux rice paper, not rice paper. I hope that helps
Love it all
Thank you!
