I have been dying with avocado skins for a couple of years now and your tutorial is the best I've seen. I keep my avocado skins and pits in the freezer. Because I have limited space, after covering a plastic tablecloth with papers, I set up cookie/biscuit cooling racks and lay papers on those. The papers on the racks dry much quicker as the air circulates around them.
I've always found that the more peels and pits the better too. (And I learned that avocado freezes beautifully [cube it, lay it on cookie sheets, put in freezer then put frozen cubes in freezer zip bag and back into the freezer]--now I ALWAYS have avocado to top my salads, nachos, omelets, etc. --who knew--Junk Journaling my my meals a bit healthier! lol 👍🏼🥑🤓😎)
It’s Oct 2024. So happy this video surfaced. I have been admiring the dyed papers and I just love the pink ones. Who would think that avocado would produce pink! Thank you for the lesson. ❤
I’m now working at our little country store. They do sandwiches and avocado toasts on the weekends. I now have an endless supply of skins and pits. My boss didn’t even question my request to save for me. Can’t wait to get dying tomorrow. Thanks for sharing all your ideas.
I used the outside skin of a red cabbage thinking I would get a lovely colour red. I decided to add some bicarb and WOW! It turned the most amazing intense pastel green! A must try 😍
Avocadoes are in my top favorite foods. Which I also compost skins. But wait! Now I'll use them to dye stuff in between savoring and returning to the earth. Can't wait to try.

❤️. Someone didn’t wear their gloves while finishing the project she has red fingers! You inspire me every time thank you so much for this welcome video this Sunday morning…. 🌸🌹🌼🌺🌷💐
I've save the skins and pits in the freezer for a future dye-date! TODAY'S THE DAY!!! Gathered ALL the papers and am having a blast! Experimenting as you suggested and steeping the skins and pits a second time- working so far! Thanks for your detailed video and all your expertise. Makes playing so much fun!
You do such Great Teaching Examples! They turned out Beautiful!! 🌟 It’s so interesting to me because I recently did some Avocado 🥑 dyeing. I hadn’t done it in a while and while I was at the store it just popped into my head... “Do some Avocado 🥑 dyeing! Always so Much Fun!! Much Love to You!!! 💖🤗💖
Oh my goodness I had no idea how this was done, I hear of it and see people use the papers but this is the first tutorial and probably only one I will watch cause I found it very helpful and easy to follow so thank you for the inspiration 🙂
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial, and for continuing to share your knowledge. I always feel super inspired, and itching to make something, after watching your videos!
Watching your video today……perfect…..I had saved a container full of just the avocado stones…..so I’m boiling them to create some papers, lace etc…..I’ll freeze what I have left and next time add the skins to reconstitute the liquid. This is going to be fun…..it’s a project that you don’t know what you will get till the end……love it………🤗🤗🤗
These are fantastic 🤗--I've used a little bit of red onion skin with my avocado peels and pits too and I always use cider vinegar with the "mother" as I learned when making bone broth the cider vinegar "draws" out the minerals. I usually get that deep rich color too (that I tend to hoard, just a little bit--lol). 😎
I did this yesterday the dye it came out wonderful! I live in Mexico and we eat avocados every day and what I did was I washed them out with my dish scrubber and soap and let them dry for a couple of days until they were perfectly dry and stored them in a container. I halved the recipe because I didn't have much paper to dye, I'll have to say that it was a fun process!
Happy to find out about the baking soda, I tried the avocados once and it was so pale I didn’t think it was worth he bother ,😼 Thanks Natasha, I will have another go at it! Hugs. Maggie ❤️🤗🇨🇦❤️
They're all so beautiful! I'm really in love with the oven rack lines. Amazing how little changes in how they're dried, etc., make such unique results!
Oh, that hue is to die for! Thank you so much for the tutorial. You demystified the process for me. I'm going to see if I have enough avocado skins and pits collected to try this. ❤
This video has given me a reason to try avocado dyeing again. Mine came out very pale, now I know what to do to achieve darker results. Thank you so much!
What a lovely rich color. Enjoyed seeing the variations of fabric, paper and color. The doily paper is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Your instructions and videos are always helpful.
I think that blue would be awesome through a spray bottle fine mist. Or because they aren’t colour safe (dye comes out easily) wet the streamers & out them directly on the paper 👍 Looks so good. Now I’ll be on the lookout for a plastic doily lol
I know right its such a great idea, would defenetly try it once I get my hands on one of those babies; have tried the cloth ones and the paper ones but I so want to try the plastic one now. Natasha always spark my curiosity, she makes want to be more daring with my projects and I'm loving it.
Thank you for this diy. I’ve never tried Avocados before, but I will have to buy one just for dying papers! I love the rich red color of your papers. Quite stunning!
The more more more 🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑🥑 the better/darker--I've learned (via this junk journaling activity) all about cubing all the extra avocado, laying the cubes on a cookie sheets and freezing them --once frozen, I put them in freezer zip bags and back in the freezer. I had no idea avocado freezes so well 👍🏼--now I always have some to top off nachos or omelets ... bc I'm always dying paper 🤗😎
I’ve been using avocado to dye my laces and trims for many years now. I also use red onions, beet juice, wine, coffee, different teas, red cabbage, turmeric, yellow onions, spinach…….just so many different ways to dye fabrics and such. It also depends how n how hot the water gets and how long you leave the items in the pot. There are many variations in color, some pale, some deep……just depends on what you want. 👍
Hi Natasa, I love the concise way you describe & demonstrate your process. I've never used the skins (just the pits cut in half) & my pink is much lighter. So, I'll try your way next time including the addition of baking soda. Thanks for sharing. Hazel from Canada
Thanks for sharing Camille, yes I agree with you on the blue papers as well. Besides that, the colored party streamers would be easier to store in a small space than liquid dies. I'll have to see if I can find some streamers. God bless you my Aussie sister. Hugs from across the world.
Thankyou Natasha, for the clever bicarbonate hint & for the wonderful tutorials, that are so inspiring. 😄What a beautiful batch you've achieved. My previous fabric dying with avocado was much paler, however I only used skins. I read that the seeds give a more orange tone..
Dyeing papers is one of my favorite parts of junk journaling. So much fun to experiment. I LOVE this dark red color and have tried it using different things with varied results, but I'm definitely trying avocado next! Thanks for the video. I always learn a great deal from your channel. :)
My favorite is when I use French Vanilla instant coffee and dry them in the oven. My whole house smells like a wonderful little coffeeshop. LOVE it. Red cabbage on the other hand 😳🤭😝 not so much (but that beautiful blue is so awesome...so grateful for sunshine/fresh air and dryer sheets for that lil' project. lol)
@@TheCrabbyCrafterlol I've tried spirulina, which kind of works, but kind of doesn't. In any case, that stuff smells like low tide, so I added a few drops of fragrance oil to the solution and it actually retains a good bit of scent. And I'll take the red cabbage smell for the color it gives you! One of my favorites.
Always a pleasure watching your videos. Pretty papers. For some odd reason I collected party streamers over the years. I am always happy for another way to use them. Thanks.
Thanks! You are really a wonderful source of inspiration! I love your spirit of exploration. Today I made the most beautiful tea and avocado dyed papers because of your tutorials. Hope you are healthy and happy! Thanks again for putting your perfectly imperfect art into the world and for being a teacher to others. All my best! Sammi
My avocado dyed paper looks like the light pink you showed, which I really like. However, this shade is absolutely gorgeous. I have 2 quart jars in my freezer that I am getting out and adding baking soda to. I just love you 💜
Amazing!! I keep hearing about dying with avocados and didn’t quite understand. This will be my next project. Absolutely Beautiful!! I can’t hardly wait!! 😍
Dear Natasa as always...this is a beautiful video! My favourite teacher in the world! I love that intense red colour. I was one of those who requested this video...thanks! God bless you for your generosity.
This is such an excellent video. I would never have thought to use avocados to die papers. Your experimenting produced such beautiful day varying results. Thank you for teaching us the process and all the results we can get using different papers and drying techniques. I just love this idea. 🤗
Great video Natasha. Thanks so much for sharing, and I must say beautiful results. Love them all but my favorites are the watercolor papers with added blue. Stunning ❤️
Natasha I loved this so much that I just made another batch of solution last night! 😁 After I simmered an hour, I strained the water dumped the avocado pieces right back into the pot & repeated the process….. u can reuse them a 2nd time!!!! 🥳🥳 (I used 6 avocados, split the seeds, & added baking soda )
Thank you for all you share. You are always so clear and helpful and generous with your time and information. I have learned so much from you and your videos are a joy. Thank you. 🙏☺️💝💐
Avocado dye looks so beautiful on papers one of my favorite ways to color my paper. I didn't know about the baking soda tip to darken the color.. oh I love it!! That rich dark color is gorgeous, will try it next time. Thank you for the video 🙂
Natasha, I found your video to watch for the second time! Maybe you are the person who told me about adding the baking soda to achieve the darker richer color. I can't wait to try it! I'm sewing a quilt for a person and must finish that project first since I'm being paid for it, my fun with treasure papers will have to wait. Also, I have pre-treated my papers with a mordant (soaking the paper in a alum solution) and the mordant is supposed to make the dye bond to the paper more readily. I learned about the mordant from watching videos by Margaret , I will have to exit out of your video to search for Margaret's last name, but I'll let you know. When it is time for my turn to dye with avocados, I'll use plain paper and mordant paper to see which dyes better. I'll let you know. So sorry for the long comment! It's a shame we can't pick up the phone and call each other as I'm sure we would become fast friends! I'll comment with you later. I live in Birmingham, Alabama and I think you live in Australia if I remember from one of your videos...later!
Absolutely Fabulous Natasha 🤩 I accidentally used a tablespoon instead of a teaspoon added 2tbs to the boiling water and wow within 20 minutes I had the darkest colour 😳 Thank you for this tutorial 😍
Natasa thank you for doing this video - i love to make avocado dyed papers and other goodies - but i never thought of adding drops of color of them - i neeeed to try this right away lol - i personally find all of your videos very inspiring - and i would like to say Thanks!!! be well xx
Wow Natasha!! You got amazing results!! 👏👏👏🤩 Thank you so much for sharing your experiment projects!! How useful they will be when preparing our own journal papers!! 🤩
Hi Natasa, brilliant video, I've been saving skins and pits all summer in anticipation of your tutorial and like you have just air dried them. I've been told that adding aluminium foil to the water whilst boiling the skins will brighten the colour, so going to have a go at that too, also adding onion skins to some of the mix will give another variation. Soooo many things to try and trying to fit in Christmas makes too 😳 All getting a little bit crazy!!! Stay safe hugs Victoria xxx😘
Hi Kayenne, yes onion skins would make oranges and browner hues added to the advocados, all onion skins, red or brown, make a good yellow colour. Did some recently with the red vinegar left over from pickled cabbage, got blues and greys! With natural dies it's always difficult to predict what you will get, but to me that half of the fun.
I've been waiting for a video to show me how to use avocados to dye paper. Thank you SO much. This was a great video and taught me what I needed to know! I always enjoy your videos! TYFS!!!
Also know that the paper you use matters, too. I sometimes use 100% cotton paper and WOW does it turn pink!! Sometimes it's a little too dark LOL But I love it :) And I found out that ironing your paper straight out of the oven (if you use the oven method) keeps your paper nice and flat! And your tutorial is the best
I was so inspired, I paused the video because I remembered I put an avocado in my salad at lunch... Came back while all the papers were soaking, watched some more and RAN back while it was all wet and added a bunch of materials to 'stamp' into the color. Can't wait to see the results! You are ONE INSPIRING LADY !!! Thanks for your generosity GF !
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. As with all of your content, it is very clear and precise.I knew about the vinegar as a modifier but not baking soda. Perhaps it works like soda ash in natural plant dyes,. Once again thank you so much for a dip in the avocado.😀
I was so surprised to see that pink/red color come from avocados! Your dying videos are the best on RUclips! Your demonstrations and narratives are loaded with valuable information! THANK YOU! Streamers...wonderful! I'm interested in dying lace trims. this is going to be interesting!
I really learned a lot as I do in all of your videos Natasha, you are a A -MAAAZING teacher with very easy instructions and I just love your voice, I’m inspired by EVERY single video you put out, Thank you so much! It means everything to all of us🦋🌹
Have you ever tried lichen? It's that greenish-grayish curled edge stuff that appears on tree bark or wherever it's very damp all the time. I've used that to dye some wool; it came out a pinkish mauve; also there's those leaves on branches that florists add to bouquets. The little branches have really round-ish leaves, grayish silver in colour; that gives a nice purplish tone, if you can get enough of them. The plant is called Silver Dollar tree. Saw some growing profusely over someone's front fence once, and had a difficult time NOT being that person who steals foliage lol.
Thank you for making this tutorial. I've been saving pits and skins and really look forward to trying. Your pot used for the cooking process, what's it made of? Stainless? Aluminum? Thanks again
Absolutely stunning. You are always taking simple techniques and taking them to the next level. I just love watching and rewatching your videos. Fantastic ❤
I achieved some great results with your onion skin dying tutorial, so I can’t wait to give this method a try. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience, Natasia! Happy holidays from NE Florida!
Natasa, these papers and fabrics are so stunning. Tge color us so rich and the blue added in is a fun twist.your tutorials are always so clear and easy to follow. I will have to get my God daughter to save me avocado skins as we don't eat them, but Zhe does almost daily. 💖 thank you as sways for all you do!
I followed your onion skin dying tutorial and it was so much fun! Definitely going to give this one a try as well! I love all of the different possibilities that there are with dying papers. Tfs!
What a fantastic video! Your “why not” approach and eagerness to experiment is amazing. I have let’s say…..some tiny control issues and want everything to be ‘perfect’. I often will not try certain techniques or ideas bc I’m so afraid of making a mistake. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself in these videos and showing me that mistakes and experimenting is fun and rewarding…..instead of feeling like I failed or messed up. You and your videos are a game changer for me. I think I too can say, why not. Hugs xo
@@4chicagogrl You are so right!! I just need to throw caution to the wind and not worry so much ;) Im getting better, but it can be a struggle. Thank you for the kind words :)
How stunning that color is beautiful I’ve never used avocado for dying paper all this time been throwing them out after eating the flesh so now I’ve learned something new and will no longer waste avocados 🥑 I’ll be eating more avocado toast just to get started on dying my papers. Only thing I will have to dry my papers in the oven it’s to cold in Columbus, Oh😩 right now. Thanks for sharing 🥳❣️both ideals.
I made pink dye recently using just the avocado pits (not skins) I had saved, many. Happy with my results. Maybe next I should try the skins. I eat a lot of avocados here in New Mexico
These papers you made are gorgeous Natasha. Yes, remember that video where you used the streamers for dying papers. I had forgotten that I've saved video to refer back to. I need to find some of those party streamers. Thanks for sharing your ideas and inspirations. Take care and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
If you are not getting intense color split the seeds it helps achieve more color. Beautiful papers! 😊 Heather
Thank you for that tip!
Thank you!
I've always found that the more peels and pits the better too.

I'm friends with the owner of a local Mexican restaurant. They gave me 60 pits one day. ❤
I used the outside skin of a red cabbage thinking I would get a lovely colour red. I decided to add some bicarb and WOW! It turned the most amazing intense pastel green! A must try 😍
Ooh wow
As if you didn't have enough to do....But, those avacado pits make the most beautiful buttons...just slice...put 4 holes, and dry..
I like the old, antique look that the dye gives the paper
Avocadoes are in my top favorite foods. Which I also compost skins. But wait! Now I'll use them to dye stuff in between savoring and returning to the earth. Can't wait to try.
I was on the hunt for avocado dying details this morning when I found your video. Perfect timing.
I’ve noticed when I put paper in a dye bath the top always is more intense than the bottom. I figured it was because the dye is sitting on top of the page with the weight of other papers on top of that. I love using avocados for dying my papers and it is amazing how the bicarb makes the colour come out so bright!

Beautiful rich color! I cannot wait to try this myself! I love how you experiment with party streamers. Love the results!
Jeeee I wish we could get avocado that big in the uk :( I will try the bicarb that looks like a good plan thank you
I KNEW I could use these skins for something!❤
You do such Great Teaching Examples!
They turned out Beautiful!! 🌟
It’s so interesting to me because I recently did some Avocado 🥑 dyeing.
I hadn’t done it in a while and while I was at the store it just popped into my head... “Do some Avocado 🥑 dyeing!

I love this informative tutorial. I have been saving some avocados in the freezer but wasn’t sure how to proceed. You’re tutorials are the best.

Wow Natasha!! You got amazing results!! 👏👏👏🤩 Thank you so much for sharing your experiment projects!! How useful they will be when preparing our own journal papers!! 🤩
I finally tried this, this weekend!! I am amazed at the colour! Wrote on one with gold ink and it looks delightful. Thank you for this tutorial.
😂🤣💝💝💝💝 I love your excitement…this is how I feel 🙌
Onion skins would probably add a browner or yellower hue, wouldn't it?
Hi Kayenne, yes onion skins would make oranges and browner hues added to the advocados, all onion skins, red or brown, make a good yellow colour. Did some recently with the red vinegar left over from pickled cabbage, got blues and greys! With natural dies it's always difficult to predict what you will get, but to me that half of the fun.
How did it work out?
What a beautiful batch!! Love the colors and variations! So pretty!!
I've been waiting for a video to show me how to use avocados to dye paper. Thank you SO much. This was a great video and taught me what I needed to know! I always enjoy your videos! TYFS!!!
13:58 oh my goodness! You're my favorite person! 😊
You're the best!
I was literally just thinking I need to find a video on how to avocado dye paper. So thank you! Wonderful video
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. As with all of your content, it is very clear and precise.I knew about the vinegar as a modifier but not baking soda. Perhaps it works like soda ash in natural plant dyes,. Once again thank you so much for a dip in the avocado.😀
Luckily avocados were on sale the other day so I can try this soon!
Love the color saturation you achieved!
Thank you Natasha.
These are so gorgeous! Can't wait to play! And of course, eating the avocados! Yum!❤
Mine never turned out so dark . This color looks fantastic. I just love it. Such a wonderful way to make the paper so pretty. Thank you .
Thank you for sharing your tips on getting the different color variations using avocados. I have saved this for future reference.
Tfs!
How did your papers come out? I've only used onion skins with avocado peels and pits--just nosy 🤓😎
Thanks for sharing! Time to try out avocado dying.
Some of the prettiest papers I’ve seen. TFS
Beautiful Beautiful love it all thank you
What a fantastic video! Hugs xo
Just remember… it’s only paper…. When I remind myself of that it helps so much from worrying about mistakes. ❤
@@4chicagogrl You are so right!! I just need to throw caution to the wind and not worry so much ;) Im getting better, but it can be a struggle. Thank you for the kind words :)
Beautiful rich colors.
Ooh! Lovely colours, thank you for your many tips.x
This tutorial is absolutely fabulous. Thank you for sharing ✌🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
