I am new at Junk Journals and I enjoy your videos. I would love to see videos using Easter Egg dye and vegetables and anything else that you can use. I am going to take the leap and try tea dying some paper. I love your videos! ❤❤❤
Since I don't have anything like your lacey tablecloth, I tried adding stencils on top of my wet/dyed papers, and it works beautifully. And it allows me to use all those stencils I've bought and made over the years and years!!! Great ideas in the vid! TFS!!!❤❤❤
Thank you for this very helpful tutorial. You are the only one I’ve seen who uses “baking soda” though and it makes perfect sense! I also hadn’t thought of using a vinyl tablecloth to lay out my papers to dry. This tutorial was loaded with “tips and tricks” thank you for sharing!
BUT she has THREEEEEEEE DAYS ?!?! to dye paper? I do mine in 45-min to 1 hour from start to finish- done n dried. An hour (about as many or more pages). I don’t have three days to dye paper 🤦🏻♀️
I came here to say this very thing! 😂 Natasha, you're my kind of woman. When my daughter was 16 she asked me "mammy, do we have an ironing board?" and I replied "Yes, it's the digital piano stand that you practiced piano on for 4 years!" She had seen me use many tools over the years but an iron wasn't one of them.😂 I'm new to journalling and your tutorials are great. I've been using tea and coffee to stain new wood in household projects for years but as I move to paper crafts it's great to learn from paper masters such as yourself. I did a small first batch blind without all of the logistics figured out in advance (drying space in particular). Also, as I used an older roasting tin, the solution became grayer as it began to oxidize with the surface of the metal, delivering a gray/green hue that I didn't care for. Second time I used a newer tin with better results. Fantastic to see your process in particular to see that sheets can be par dried in small bundles and separated midway through. Your channel is great for 'keeping it real' compared to some creators that have studios as big as a small house. Once again, thank-you for sharing your talent. You set a high bar for us newbies but it's great to have a quality standard to aim for. 🙏
I only want to iron paper, it’s amazing! I buy (thrifted) only clothes that don’t require an iron on low heat. I used to use a laundry service, it’s sooo much cheaper than you think. If you can buy the kind of paper you want, you probably don’t need this method!
I tried doing this with some fruit tea bags. The water from them was a glorious dark pink so I thought I'd get some fabulous results from that. However, the colour seemed to oxidise in the air and all the paper came out grey! Not really a problem as they are lovely, but very unexpected. If you see my previous comment about drying the teabags on watercolour paper to make stains, I did this with the fruit tea bags and got gorgeous grey stains which I then doodled over in black. I am absolutely thrilled with the result of these! The actual teabags did stay pink and once I'd taken out the tea, I ended up with some nice pink teabag paper to use in projects.
Oh my gosh! I love your personality explaining all this! "I don't have time to iron things that should be ironed." "🤣 I have never felt so excited just watching a tutorial video! You have a brilliant mind and are incredibly inspiring ❤
I have my dad's love letters he wrote to my mother from back in WW2, I'm going to print them onto papers done with this technique.. excited to say the least! Great video once again!
I’ve used red cabbage twice to dye paper. It creates a pretty slate blue paper. I’m glad to learn how to make less acidic. Also, loved seeing different techniques you’ve used for different designs. I’ve not tried Easter egg dye, onion skin or food coloring. Love to see your methods❣️. 🤗💕🦋
I'm so glad that I watched this video Natasa. I tried my hand at tea staining paper and found that my paper was not coming out very dark. Your video helped me to see that the longer I left the paper soak the darker it got. I had only let it soak for an hour. Thanks so much Natasa
Excellent video. You did answer some questions I had. Thank you. I haven’t looked through your videos yet. But if you haven’t, please do an EASTER EGG PAPER DYING VIDEO!!!!!
Your LOVE of PAPER, as you shared with us 'why", REALLY shows!!! It's so apparent you find utter joy working with it in the more ways the better! I'd loved to see your other methods. This one is an absolute keeper! Thanks darling lady! ~Ana xo
Awesome information - thank you. I would love to see the onion dying process. We use a lot of shallots so I think those skins would give a lovely purple hue to the solution. Your drying process is perfect; I have to use my oven to since I can't even imagine the havoc my cat would wreak on a floor full of paper! LOL
YES! I would like to see the onion dye, avocado dye and whatever else! I understand the egg color dye. One time I used "old" but not moldy, raspberries and it came out so pretty! Just mashed them up. I had given no thought to the acidity in tea, so THANK you for that tip. Thank you!😀😁
Thanks for all the tips and tricks. I've also used the liquid from pickled beets for a pretty pink and I sometimes add a little balsamic vinegar to my tea or onion mix for a darker effect.

They all turned out beautiful! ❤ I started using beetroot juice from precooked beetroots. That makes a very pretty pink colour. I started collecting the juice in the freezer.
I've watched several other vids on how to do this---- Natasha, your's is the best, by far! Makes total sense, and nothing is wasted!! This will be my method from now on---- Thank you for sharing all your talent w/ us!!
I am now going to search op shops for a plastic doily table runner! Fab video, I really enjoyed watching the process. I do exactly the same so the validation felt good!
Thank you for a very informative video. I have coffee dyed papers several times. Have been experimenting with other types of flavored teas and got one that the papers are a gray blue color. Thank you for the tip on the PH balance, I will remember to do that from now on. I would greatly enjoy videos on all types of dying to get other colors. One thing I also do when dying papers is to dye laces, fabrics, linens and cheesecloth so have some of those to use also. Love how your papers came out.
You are very talented! I love your videos, your voice and your sense of humor is very enjoyable. The use of "trash" inspires me to limit buying new and giving a second look at what I might toss away. Thank you for sharing!
I love the idea of using the coloring pages, those are very neat looking dyed. The onion color and the avocado dye are also my favorites. I would love to see how you do the onion skin dye. Thank you for sharing. I use coffee a lot to dye paper, but I didn't know about the baking soda to alkaline it. That is great to know. You can also use distress ink colors to make many colors of dyed papers. So much fun to do.
Natasha, you're simply the best, the funniest, the smartest.... 😆I just fell in love with you and your personality ... kinda "soul sister"... 😇Thank you so much for just being there and sharing your heart and your creativity with us! God bless you and your family.😘
Your papers are gorgeous, I have never dyed paper before but I am tempted! I love the blotchy ones and the ones dried on the plastic table runner but, they all would be lovely to have! I not sure I have the patience, it would be amazing to have a greenhouse to lay them all out in! Thanks for an inspiring video!💕🇨🇦
I love it! I will love to see your tutorial about dyed papers with avocado or else too! You are a good teacher! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! ❤️🦋🌻🇨🇦
I love the look of tea or coffee dyed papers and have watched several videos on how it's done, but my biggest drawback is that I don't have my own craft space to work in, otherwise I'd jump at the chance. Thanks for sharing your talent, time and inspirations. I really appreciate the way you teach. Take care and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
Thx a lot Beetroot cooking water is nice too. And Rusty metal parts can usually be obtained free of charge from any building site 2 days in water gives great colours
This was a great video and I learned a lot and can't wait to try it! Thank you for being so generous with your time and talent. I would love to see a video on making the colored papers. 😘
Thank you Natasha this is so good to learn I literally put the paper in and took it out after a few minutes as I thought it would fall apart 😂😂😂 I would love to see a video on other dyeing methods I love all your fabulous tutorials and creative makes 😍
That was super helpful! I'm using some tea/coffe dyed papers in my bullet journal so I've been looking for tips and ideas. This video has given a lot of insight and inspiration. Thanks so much!
New Subscriber! Hello from Minnesota 💜 I'm a cardmaker but I want to try making a journal and I enjoyed your video. I love that journal making has no right or wrong way and you just have fun with it. I think that's what crafting is supposed to be, Fun! I enjoy Crafts and always have! Thank you for sharing this video! 💕
excellent video! I love how you detail each step of the process along with various methods to get different effects!! Thank you so much~ I think the "plain" is my favorite, but I also love the one with the table runner designs - I want to get one of those! And I have to try the onion skins! I've done various different materials - coffee, tea, blueberries - but not onion skins~ will do that soon!!
Oh oh oh!! These are so pretty!!!! I love dyed paper!!! BUT WHY have i never thought about how coffee & tea is acidic?? Yikes!!!! Thank you for this video!!
@@Mary-em5yi Because over time, acidity will eat through whatever material it is - which is why a lot of "archival" things also say "acid free" - like photo paper, inks, materials, etc.
Just found you, & love everything I've watched. I've been wanting to start making journals for my family as gifts. I would love to see your onion dying process.
Just found this video even two years later it’s still working! Love, love, love your ideas. Thank you so much. I’ve even used food dye for instant color. But you can’t get the same thing as you do from nature so creative absolutely genius thank you robin in Florida.
❤️❤️❤️ I don’t have time to iron things that should be ironed, either, Natasa! So no ironing paper in my house as well. Thanks for sharing your method. I’d love to see you dye with onion skins and food coloring. 😃
So cool! I really appreciate you taking the time to share all of that with us. Ì have never dyed paper this way. I have sprayed on color with ink and water but I haven't tried coffee or tea because I don't have much space. But you have given me a lot to think about. Would love to see the onion skins... and maybe the different colors too.
Natasa Thank you for this video! Haven't tried the tea dyeing yet, have done the food coloring, did a video over a year ago on it. Love mixing the colors to come up with new ones. Always enjoy watching you!
This video is great Natasha, thanks for explaining the acidity factor, I didn’t know that. And I didn’t know I can leave the papers in the dye overnight. I would love to see how you use avocado to achieve the pink color. I tried with berry fruit tea but the papers were turning blue as they dried.
@@heymudda1 I used Teekanne forest fruits ( mixture of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and strawberries) Tea is dark red but the paper turns purplish blue. Another time, I used dried Aronia fruit(chokeberries), boiled them for a while to extract color. Paper turned grayish blue that time.
Love the splotch effect. Will have to try that next time. I prefer drying them in the oven as it is sooo much quicker and I can do a lot in a few hours. I like how you had a large pan of the dye first and then added each page one by one. I haven't tried it that way before. Neither have I ever left the paper in for that long. Usually I dye each page one by one and put directly on to the cookie sheet, or, I will take a big chunk of paper and put the whole thing in the pan at once. This leaves a lot of white space as you have said. Sometimes I don't mind that. I have also tried the sprinkle coffee effect - I love that as well. Thanks for sharing your process. Would love to see the onion skin dying process sometime when you have a chance.
Thank you Sharon! I think the oven drying process seems to darken the paper more than air drying, so you don't need to leave it in the solution for that long :)
I explained everything in the video, but here goes again. Ph level measures alkalinity versus acidity. Water is neutral. Bleach is highly alkaline, coffee is acid. Paper is also already slightly acid. When you add tea or coffee to paper, you make it very acid. Acidity eats through any writing on the page and especially if you place photograps into a journal that has very acidic paper. It takes years for this to happen, and for the writing and photographs to fade, hence why people don't worry about it too much. That is also why a lot of scrapbooking products and paper state "archival" paper, meaning its not acid, it will not fade your photographs. So, adding soda bicarb, which is alkaline, it neutralizes the acid and brings the solution to neutral. I hope this helps
Thank you so much for the thorough explanation, I understand now that it’s all about preventing the paper, photos, etc to become yellowish over time. Best regards from Canada :)
@@TreasureBooks WOW! I did not know this. Thanks for sharing your dye methods and educating us on what "archival" means. I'm working on a family tree book and I want it to last, so it's going to be archival papers for all vital documents going forward for me!
This stack of stained paper❤️❤️❤️❤️ I know how this feels. It’s everything. In summer a always dye my paper in the garden and it’s dry in no time. Sometimes I have to chase some papers through the yard but that’s ok. I sometimes iron them, but they loose some of the crispyness after that. I love love love a big stack of freshly dyed paper. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 keep on with your art and greetings from 🇩🇪
I'm with many here & would certainly love to see the dying process of the onion skins & that purple one. Love your work. I'm fascinated with watching you. Be well &TYFS
I loooove all of them really 😍I’m new to junk journaling but am totally in love with the whole thing because I also love to write a lot. One day a few months ago I decided to organize all our family memories throughout the years and that’s how this idea came about. I’m making junk journals for my children who are adults and about to have their own kids 😃 I would like to share one tip that I discovered by coincidence. I spray dye my paper also with tea and coffee solution in a spray bottle for ease , then I pop them in the over on an old iron pizza tray . The rust from the tray gave a most fantastic gray blue blotches at the places where the sheet of paper touched the metal. But I dry them 2 at a time on very low heat. Please let me know if you try it😊 as alway thank you for your perfectly wonderful videos😊❤💐❤😊
I love how these turned out. Have you done an onion skin dying tutorial? Would you if you haven't? I think a lot of people would love it. Thanks fo sharing this one! ♥
Thank you, you’ve answered so many questions I had about tea dying paper. I would like to see how you onion skin dye paper or any other type of dye you’ve used. 💋
Oh, my I watched you for the first time last night. I got up and had my cup of green tea with hibiscus in it. Then I sprinkled it on the paper and added some extra hibiscus and added some weight for a few hours and now letting it dry in the open I think the paper not being flat is all part of the ascetics. OK, so I do not know about my acid level but thanks to you I am learning so I will be placing an order for the strips. You have me excited for making some Christmas gifts and I crochet, knit and embroidery of which I plan on making journals of and using some of those to make journals, can't wait to see what is born from the combination. I am excited to learn more from you. Thank you for sharing!
I just love how you explained your technique. I thought I was doing mine wrong but you showed me I was okay. That everything I did was okay and no two papers would be the same. Thank you for sharing your talents
to flatten out my dyed paper I ran it through my laminator (without the laminating sheets)..the heat helps with the flattening, and removing any remaining moisture...
I'm back to comment because I've now FINALLY got a pretty way to reuse all the pages I've printed for school that I no longer need anymore! I didn't quite have the set up you do... but as I write this I have the whole edge of the lino kitchen hallway covered in we tea-dyed assessment papers. I've raided my stash for pages I've watercoloured (primarily for testing colour combinations and mixing triads) and either cut them up to create the beginnings of some tags, or if they were big enough, folded them to add into a journal. Further actions from your totally INSPIRING channel, I have dismantled my UNINSPIRING watercolour journal (which was 14 folded sheets of A4, kettle stitch bound with some craft paper), and now those pages are waiting VERY patiently to be bound into a tea-dyed/ watercolour splotched/ magazine raided extravaganza!!! I've never felt MORE inspired or capable or empowered to create with what I have! This is no shade on how other people do things... but all the pretty stashes people have... I can't afford or justify spending that kind of money on ephemera or fancy supplies. YOU, my friend, are the kind of crafter I want to be! Our styles differ somewhat, admittedly- I'm a little less vintage and a little more... uh, pop-y, I guess. But. Dang. Hell. To. The. Yes! Thank you. I hope you see this. Your channel is helping my process like you wouldn't BELIEVE!
As a gardener for years. Who lives in a forest of pine trees (acidic soil 🙄) we have used soda to "sweeten" the soil. So yes, should work great with tea bags too! My mind kept going to the gorgeous color of beet juice. I am going to give it a try. Why not - might be beautiful. 😄Thanks for the GREAT tips!!
I really enjoyed your video. I have spent a day coffee dyeing & cooking the paper. I live in Texas so using an oven is almost painful. I may try sun drying & the other things including Easter egg dyes. I had not even thought of this … very cool. U r a very clever young lady, keep up the good work.
I'm glad you did this. I already made my books and papers without neutralizing them but I made very very dilute version with one pan to three bags or one pan to one pot of coffee. Basically it was very dilute but it is what it is. Very good to think for longevity. Thank you for your crafts and creativity.
Thank you so very much. I save my used coffee filters and just did not know anything about this process. You have definitely taught me something. Thank you so much

Can you tell me what kind of copypaper you use, mine starts to break down when I'm submerging it..
My type writer paper breaks up but artist paper doesn't. I don't submerge the type writer paper I squeeze the tea bag over it which works great.

Do it in the kitchen!
Thx a lot Beetroot cooking water is nice too. And Rusty metal parts can usually be obtained free of charge from any building site 2 days in water gives great colours
My favorite was using the plastic tablecloth. And as others have mentioned, dying using onion skins and one using avocado dying. 🙂
Great video I always wondered how to tea dye paper. I love the effect. Thank you
This was a great video and I learned a lot and can't wait to try it! Thank you for being so generous with your time and talent. I would love to see a video on making the colored papers. 😘
Thank you so much!!! I love your instruction!!! I would love to see the onion skin paper dying!!! ❤️❤️
Already done, here is the link: ruclips.net/video/ttRVgeyc2QM/видео.html
Beautiful papers and hues. I would like to see the onion skin process. Tfs🌷
Thank you for this video, I just did some papers and I just put coffee on them, I didn’t know about the acidity, so now I know thanks to you.
Great information, Natasa, thank you. Yes, please do a follow up with the vegetable dyed papers.🌸
Great job! I like your method better than any I have seen, thanks!
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you Natasha this is so good to learn I literally put the paper in and took it out after a few minutes as I thought it would fall apart 😂😂😂 I would love to see a video on other dyeing methods I love all your fabulous tutorials and creative makes 😍
Thank you for taking the time to show how you dye your paper. Yes please to the other colors and how you achieve those colors. Tfs
That was super helpful! I'm using some tea/coffe dyed papers in my bullet journal so I've been looking for tips and ideas. This video has given a lot of insight and inspiration. Thanks so much!
New Subscriber! Hello from Minnesota 💜
I'm a cardmaker but I want to try making a journal and I enjoyed your video. I love that journal making has no right or wrong way and you just have fun with it. I think that's what crafting is supposed to be, Fun! I enjoy Crafts and always have! Thank you for sharing this video! 💕
Thank you so much Sarah!!
I'd love to see the onion dyed paper video. Thank u for all ur valuable info. Hugs from Corpus Christi, Tx 💙
excellent video!
Great tutorial on how to dye your papers; TFS!
I learned some new things! Thank you for sharing your methods. I have appreciated your style of journal making and now your paper dying.
Oh oh oh!! These are so pretty!!!! I love dyed paper!!! BUT WHY have i never thought about how coffee & tea is acidic?? Yikes!!!! Thank you for this video!!
Hi😄lol
I didn't think about it either
@@beanerb822 hi hi hi! I see we are fans of the same amazing women!! hahahahahah
Why does that acidity matter?
@@Mary-em5yi Because over time, acidity will eat through whatever material it is - which is why a lot of "archival" things also say "acid free" - like photo paper, inks, materials, etc.
Thanks for sharing your process I really like the Doily imprints and the darker tones. The Easter colors were fun too. 💞💕❤
Just found you, & love everything I've watched. I've been wanting to start making journals for my family as gifts. I would love to see your onion dying process.
Thank you so much Diane. Here is the onion dying process video: ruclips.net/video/ttRVgeyc2QM/видео.html
I love the grundgy look. Love the big splotches.
What is ironing paper? Lol, I don’t even own an ironing board and only use my iron for craft! 😀
The onion paper is also a Beautiful antique color!
Please also make a video on how to stain paper with union skins!
I love the splotches and lace table runner effects the best. Thanks for sharing your process.
So cool! I really appreciate you taking the time to share all of that with us. Ì have never dyed paper this way. I have sprayed on color with ink and water but I haven't tried coffee or tea because I don't have much space. But you have given me a lot to think about. Would love to see the onion skins... and maybe the different colors too.
I've just laid out a bunch of papers to dry from my first tea dying adventure. Thanks for this informative video. :)
Natasa Thank you for this video! Haven't tried the tea dyeing yet, have done the food coloring, did a video over a year ago on it. Love mixing the colors to come up with new ones. Always enjoy watching you!
I love the splotches as well - so lovely!
Thank you ❤️
This video is great Natasha, thanks for explaining the acidity factor, I didn’t know that. And I didn’t know I can leave the papers in the dye overnight.
I would love to see how you use avocado to achieve the pink color. I tried with berry fruit tea but the papers were turning blue as they dried.
I would love to get some blue pages. *adds berry tea to shopping list.
Thank you so much Dragana :) Oohhh blue paper from berry fruit tea! That sounds awesome :)
Can you tell us what brand of berry fruit tea you used and THANKS for the heads up on that one!
Oh wow didn’t know about the PH 😳 learned something new today 😊😊😊
TFS 😘😘😘😘😘
great papers. I dye several times in the summer using eco style and regular teas and food color dyes in sprayer bottles. Simply love the process.
The “neutral” “acidic” and “alcaline” really confused me, could you explain more about the importance of it? Thank you! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Firts time I've heard about this too, thank u for such a learning vid
@@TreasureBooks WOW! I did not know this. Thanks for sharing your dye methods and educating us on what "archival" means. I'm working on a family tree book and I want it to last, so it's going to be archival papers for all vital documents going forward for me!
I loved watching this! They look fantastic! Thank you
Love your. Tea dying technique!
I would love to see you dye paper with the onion skins.☺️💜
This stack of stained paper❤️❤️❤️❤️ I know how this feels. It’s everything. In summer a always dye my paper in the garden and it’s dry in no time. Sometimes I have to chase some papers through the yard but that’s ok. I sometimes iron them, but they loose some of the crispyness after that. I love love love a big stack of freshly dyed paper. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 keep on with your art and greetings from 🇩🇪
This is so cool! I am fairly new to paper crafting and I’d love the look of naturally dyed paper. So thank you very much
You are so welcome!
I'm with many here & would certainly love to see the dying process of the onion skins & that purple one. Love your work. I'm fascinated with watching you. Be well &TYFS
Thank you so much Claire!
I would love to see a video on your papers of other colors.
Wow. You are insanely creative! Thank you for sharing!
Great idea, thank you
I'm back to comment because I've now FINALLY got a pretty way to reuse all the pages I've printed for school that I no longer need anymore!
Hahah HELL TO THE YES!!!! Thank you so much, that makes me very happy!!!
Your videos are music to my creative soul! Thank you for the song, Natasha!
Aw thank you SO much Carole!
Haven’t done this in a while. I usually use the oven but now you have shown me a new way. TFS!
I always use the oven, heat it up and then turn it off, leave the papers in over night and wake up to dry papers.
WONDERFUL video!
I love using the empty tea bags in my journals.
Thank you for sharing 💚
I love the different effects you get with your papers. Thank you for sharing . I always learn something new from you!!😊
I really enjoyed your video. I have spent a day coffee dyeing & cooking the paper. I live in Texas so using an oven is almost painful. I may try sun drying & the other things including Easter egg dyes. I had not even thought of this … very cool. U r a very clever young lady, keep up the good work.
The easter dyed ones are my favorite. I will definitely be trying that one.
