I am almost embarrassed to tell you how many tutorials I have watched on making different journal covers. I have to say that you did a TERRIFIC job. Your instructions were clear, you speak well, and while you offered additional side info, you never got track and forced to to fast forward. NICE job! Thanks for taking the time to do this and hope I find that you have others posted. :)
Wow, thank you so much for your wonderful comments Korri! I haven’t done many tutorials yet but hope to do more in the future. Glad you found my channel!❣️
This gives new meaning to waxed paper 😊
Thank you for sharing this beautiful project with us.
You've inspired me 💙
I'm so glad! Thank you so much! 🌸🌸🌸
Thank you for sharing!! Love your wallet too!! I’ve made faux leather out of a paper bag and the video I saw said to use hair conditioner. It worked wonderful. Happy crafting! 💕
Thanks so much Linda! Several people commented about the hair conditioner too! 😊
do you use the hair conditioner in the same manner?
I watched this video months ago, and it stuck in my head. (I even bought some of the Dorland's Wax Medium, so I would have it on hand when needed). This week, I finally had a project that needed "leather" -- and I tried your technique. It worked BEAUTIFULLY! Thank you so much for making this video and sharing your technique with us! This is my favourite faux leather technique yet -- and will be my "go to" moving forward.
Oh yay! I’m so glad you were able to try the technique. Thanks so much for letting me know how it went. 💚🦋💚
I’m just fascinated by this technique! Definitely very “cool”! I can hardly wait to try this. Thank you so much for a great tutorial!
You're very welcome Erica! Have fun!
Oh, I’m so excited, I have those hanging file folders in my file cabinet and I have Dorland’s wax I can’t believe I have the supplies I need to try this. I’ve used the Dorland’s on pages painted with acrylic paint to keep them from sticking together, I’ve never let the wax dry for 24 hours I’ve just immediately buffed it out and it’s been fine. You’re a natural, you did a great job.
Thanks Lyn! That is great that you had the supplies and were able to try it right away. That never happens! Lol 🤗
Excellent Job! You’re a GREAT teacher! I use Dorlands on sooooo many paper projects! First started using it to seal my watercolors after mounting them on birch boards. Looking forward to creating with you! TFS! 😍
Thanks so much Teri! Glad to hear others are familiar with the Dorlands. I really like that product.
WOW. I love this technique and the finished garden journal you created. Brilliantly!
Thanks Cheryl. Glad you enjoyed the tutorial!🤗🌷
I love the look you created… great tutorial! Gotta try the wallet journal one day!❤️xo
Thanks Rhonda! I want to make another one too! Time is the problem, lol.💙
That was a great video! I’ve made faux leather out of paper bags, but going to try the hanging folder. Love the two colors that are produced. Thank you so much for for the tutorial. 💜😎
Thanks so much Joanne! Have fun!
I’ve been searching for this process for a long time. So glad you came up on my feed! Looking forward to more inspiration and instruction on making books/journals 😁
Oh that's wonderful! Thanks Stevie!
Thank you for this tutorial, Sharon. Modge Podge also comes in a matte finish, and in Michael's store the other day my daughter and I saw shelves of different types of Mod Podge. I was amazed at the different types there are! You did a great job on your first tutorial, and I love the little journal you made! Great job!
Thanks so much Virginia! 💕

This looks great! I have made faux leather paper, but I have never tried a file folder. I love file folders and will be sure to try this method especially since it isn't as messy as glycerin water and paper. Thank you :) teri
Thanks Teri! Have fun playing around with your folders! 🌷
Hi Sharon, I just found you 1,5 year later after you made this tutorial. Great, you explain so well. I’ll keep following you from now on. Greetz from Holland

Thanks Marlene! Glad you enjoyed it. A number of people mentioned hair conditioner! 💙
Great video. I can't wait to try it. I have used crinkled brown paper bags that I wax with tan shoe polish to create fake leather. 😊🤗😚😙❤❤❤❤

Thanks so much Tieske!
Thank You for this Tutorial; As I'd never seen this done before seeing your Gardening Journal (Which was Mind-blowingly Stunning BTW! That Wallet Journal is Soo cute! It's cute, yet vintagey looking & just a really neat, well-made, beautiful & fun little Journal! I actually have TONS of those Old Green File Folders! (My Mom is a Retired Nurse who went out of Retirement to work Workman's Comp Cases for several years, & I'm a Retired School Teacher... So we definitely have LOTS of those Old File Folders! I actually have 2-big File Cabinets, full of them; With the thin piece of metal thread through at the top so they can hang.... But that's it! They're all pretty much empty; Just File Cabinet Drawers packed full of the empty Folders! (I may have a problem with not ever wanting to throw things away; Especially if I feel like the thing could potentially become or go inside of a Junk Journal! LOL!) THANKS AGAIN! ...Wanna guess what my Daughter & I will be trying out this weekend? LOL! ~🙏💙🙏~
Sounds like you have a lot of faux leather supplies! Have fun!
Loved it. Looking forward to more tutorials. You do it very well.
Thanks Christelle!
That little wallet journal is super cute! I’ll be making a few to take to the markets. TFS xxx
Thanks Kerry! Oh, that sounds like a great idea! 💙💙💙
Sharon amazing project, thanks for sharing
Thanks so much Alesia!
Sharon, thank you for this tutorial - excellent. I tried making a sample piece earlier in the week and used the wax you recommended - it turned out perfectly! Thank you again.
Oh that’s great! Thanks Vivien!
Is the end material strong enough to make something like shies?
Great tutorial! All the details you gave along with the visuals will make this super easy to follow. Thanks!!

Hi Sharron, recently came across your channel and love the stuff that you do. It’s always so beautifully perfect! I have a stack of file folders from work and am going to give this a try. Shoe polish is quite good I think but it does smell quite strong!!! Caroline e xxx
Thank you so very much! I really love this process. I’ll have to give the shoe polish a try! ❤️
Thank you for sharing this technique. Love the wallet too!

Thanks so much Wendy! I've got another tutorial planned for the next week or so!
Very interesting. Thank you!
You’re welcome Gail! 💕
You are Awesome!!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! So in the little journal how did you attach your pages please? Thanks again!
Thanks so much! I just stitched the pages to the cover with my sewing machine.
Love the technique and the wallet you made! Is the wallet die cut, or do you have a pattern for the wallet, or a separate tutorial on how you made the wallet?
Thank you so much! I’m sorry, I don’t have a tutorial for the wallet. I didn’t use a die cut. I just cut the pieces with my paper cutter and scissors.
thank you so much! This looks awesome cant wait to try it xx
Thank you Kris! Have fun playing around! 🌸
This is great!! Thank you!
Happy 1000 🎉✨👏❤️❤️❤️❤️

Nicely Done
Thank you! I’m glad you found it useful!💕
Good old fashioned creme rinse (hair conditioner) works well too, and it smells terrific!
Someone else told me that too! I'll have to try it. Thanks Leslie.
You did a great job on your first video!! Love the tutorial and project.
Thanks so much Jacqualine!
Thank you for your awesome tutorial!!! I can't wait to make mine (covers, etc).

Thank you Kimberlee! It's always nice to hear where people are from, especially neighbors! ❤️❤️❤️
an awesome tutorial !
Thanks so much Lorna!
So fun! I can't wait to turn those ugly green office folders into projects! Thank you!
Yay! Have fun!🤗💕
That’s great! I’m wondering how the wax responds to white glue? (I tend to glue things rather than stitch them)
Hi Leanne! On waxy surfaces like these I use Art Glitter Glue. It works pretty well on anything shiny or slick. 💕
@@SharonHoerth ooh I have some of that. awesome!!! thank you!
Amazing
Thanks! Glad you liked it! 🌹🦋
Very well done...I would think you were a long-timer! If I wanted a color other than the "natural", how would I go about that? Have you done that?
Thanks Norma! I haven’t experimented with color in this technique. You could maybe try inking or painting the file folder before sealing with the wax to give it the color you desire.
Just referred to your video … at about 1.03…..❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yay! 🥰
Mod Podge does have a matte finish as well.
Thanks, I would melt the wax and brush it on perhaps. I think it would prevent it flattening too much.
Thank you so much for the tip!🌷
Thanks for sharing! Just. Curious what made you decide to use that wax medium. I tried your technique last week and used beeswax. I like the look but it it has a wax smell. I’ll try that wax medium you’ve used. 🌟
Thanks Patsy! I probably bought that wax because someone else recommended it. 😊
Good job! Thank you.
Thanks Kathy!
great, could you make a tutorial for the wallet? and is the wallet possible to make without a sewing maching ,say by glue or/and hand stitch and what kind of hand stitch.. i so want to make one fo my hubby
Thank you! I will think about a tutorial for the wallet and other construction options. You certainly could construct using only glue or handstitching. I say anything is possible!
Can you dry it using a heating mat? I suppose accelerated drying time will not make it bad... But that's why I'm asking.
Good work and presentation though!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I haven't tried accelerating the drying time, but I don't see why not. I always say, try it to see! 😊 ❤️
@@SharonHoerth 🙂
Thanks for sharing. It's so beautiful. Iris
You are so welcome Iris!
@@SharonHoerth 🥰
Thank you!!!
You are welcome! ❤️
Sharon, do you think bee’s wax would work to seal/ condition the paper leather?
Hmmm, that's an interesting thought. It would be worth trying! I think a thin coat would probably work nicely.
love this technique and the gardeners journal . great job on the tutorial.
i'm from Wisconsin too, where do you live?
Thanks Tami! Another Wisconsinite! I live in Chilton. It’s along the east side of the state.
@@SharonHoerth
i live in Eagle which isn't far from Mukwonago or Waukesha. small world!
@@tamiwinkler5466 of course, I know where that is! 🥰
Are these made from card? Just checking if they are the same as we have in the UK?
Hi Wendy. They are made from hanging file folders. They are cardstock weight I would say.
New to your channel what a wonderful idea I saw someone put hair conditioner on paper bags
Thanks Sherry and glad to have you here! Hmmm, hair conditioner, I may have to try that one!
@@SharonHoerth it was Pam at the paper outpost she put it over a bag she had inked for a cover
@@SharonHoerth I use hair conditioner all the time, I already have it all the time it works fine👍😁I got the idea from Pam at the paper outpost, you mix a bit of water with it, although I had to add more than what she said , she thought she used( she just blobbed an amount on the palm of her hand and sprayed it with water)😁
