Hi Debi, Thank you so much for the wonderful suggestion! I am so hooked. :)
So good. You are so talented
Watching you makes me want to learn to sew...
I like how you punch two holes at the bottom and top of the journal cover spine. It adds strength to the elastic that will be holding the inserts. :-)
That journal cover turned out beautiful. Thank you for sharing
I’ve just added these to my handmade/homemade holiday list for next year!!!
Great! These would make great gifts!
Such a great little video!
Thank you so much!
HI Julia, thanks to you I love free motion....I do it but I have not experience like you. Thank you to share with us your creativity😘

This made me happy! I’m so happy you had success with this project!
Beautiful! Thanks so much for the tutorial!
Great journals some of them remind me of primitive stitching very nice
Great project, Julia . . . it turned out beautiful! I love how you used ONE piece of elastic for both the closure band and insert holder. You are the first artist I have seen do it that way. So clever! Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for watching. I am so glad you enjoyed it! Julia

I love these! Thank you for your fabulous tutorial! I can hardly wait to try this!
Hi Cathy, I hope you give them a try!
This is exactly how I like to patch my journal covers. I usually have the iron on interfacing on my backing and I have used this interfacing too. It's so much fun and a great use for fabric scraps. Love your tutorials you always inspire me.
Hi Linda, I agree these are so much fun to make and go together quickly. So glad you are enjoying the videos! Julia

This is so wonderful & thanks for showing how you stitched everything! I love the holly and how you painted it! Very inspiring 🖤🌝
Once again I love your work! So inspiring!! Could you maybe do a journal using crazy patch technique?
I will have to give the crazy quilting method a try. I used to make crazy quilted purses. Thanks for watching, Julia
Please be safe You’re presentation is sew much fun.
Hi Marian, We are staying safe- staying home and doing pickup with groceries. It's getting old! Stay safe, Julia
WOW just love this journal cover! I need to explore free-motion stitching...hugs from Vancouver 🥰
I enjoy all of your videos and projects Julia! I was finally confident enough to buy some Derwent intense ink
Have fun!
Hi Julia, I love your journals they are my absolute favorite! These are beautiful!! Xoxo 😘
Hi Rhonda, Thank you so much! These were fun and quick!
@@stitchesbyjulia you’re very welcome Julia! 😊
Beautiful journal! Thanks Julia for sharing your creativity! do you have a video for making the inserts for the journal?
Love your tuitions. You make it look so easy! You are very talented. I admire it. When I make , it takes time and is not even as close as yours: (
Looooved them!😍😍😍
You are amazing! I just found you and I would love to learn how to do this! Gorgeous cover! TFS!
Hi, this is a fabulous idea, I've been looking for some new ideas for my journals. Thank you so much, a great tutorial too. X
Wow...am going to try right away...thnks for sharing... love fr India..
I love this look. Do you think that it could be adapted to cover a bought journal? Have you done that?
Yes you can. I would put an elastic band in the spine. The purchased journal can then be slipped in and out. Thanks for watching, Julia
Wow! Great cover😀 I'd love to make one for myself. Thanks for the tutorial! I wonder how this cover could remain clean. I can't wash it like ordinary cloth, 'cause it's bound to paper, so what should I do to keep it clean? Please give me some suggestions
Hi, This journal is not bound to paper. The paper insert can easily be removed. I would recommend spot washing. Honestly, I have never washed any of my journals.
Your explanation is so great. I would love to try that material one day. Everything looks so amazing and lovely stitching 💖

Curious as to what temperature you have your iron set at? Love your videos! So much inspiration!♥️
Hi, I have it set at medium heat with no steam. On my iron it is the polyester setting. Thanks for watching, Julia
These videos are wonderful, so organic and easy to follow. I know this video was on a long time ago, but I'm hoping someone cane help. Is there a cheap way to punch the holes, I can't afford one the those things Julia is using at the moment . Thank you 😊
Hi, Another option is an eyelet punch. You use it with a hammer to punch the holes. Here is an Amazon link but you may be able to find a similar item at a craft store. amzn.to/3jl789s thanks so much for watching. Julia
@@stitchesbyjulia Thank you very much for the taking time to reply, I shall have a look now 🤩
Love it! As always! Thanks for all the pleasurable hours you are gifting me, by watching and doing. I made a mixed media journal for a birdwatcher with an hawk design at the front and some crazy patchowork at the back. All inspired by your work! (btw, what sewing machine are you using?)
Hi, Your mixed media journal sounds awesome! I am so glad you found inspiration from my videos. I am using a Janome Memory Craft 8200 sewing machine. I have had it 10+ years and was able to purchase the floor model at a discounted price. It's been a great machine. Thanks so much for watching. Julia
Wow😍
Gorgeous journal cover. I don’t have a sewing machine. Can you hand stitch on peltex? Thanks
Hi Cathy, No, Peltex would be too stiff to hand sew. I would suggest using a light weight interfacing or batting. Soft journal covers are wonderful too. Thanks for watching, Julia
Can i add binder hoops on peltex? i wanna make it into a budget binder.. i loved itt
You will have to punch the holes but yes, binder hoops would work. I’ve had good luck punching holes with my BigBite.
Was the pletex hard to sew on? Always love your videos. Thanks for sharing all your great ideas.
Hi, The Peltex is easy to sew on. My machine had no problems.
I recently started to watch your videos and I'm addicted. I make star quilts and have a longarm. I'm wanting to start adding floral and other embellishments. Trying to get ideas. Oh yeah, I'm pretty close. I live in the Bemidji.
Do you offer classes?
Hi Bemidji! You do live close! I do some classes at my quilt club in AZ but not in MN. If you are ever in the DL area in the summer on a weekend, stop in to the Shady Hollow Flea Market. I have a little shop there and would love to meet you.
Bonjour très joli travail vraiment merci pour ce tuto bonne continuation à vous je suis une abonnée À très bientôt
Honestly, I might wash mine eventually... but that's just me. Is there any alternative to a Crop O Dile ? I love your covers. So cute.
Walmart sells awls for cheap in the sewing section. Stick a piece of foam board under the project and stabby stabby. If you want eyelets they make eyelet setting tools where you hammer them closed.
@@sEaSoNaLMiLk Thank you.
Hi I have never heard of Peltex so will need to check that out - thanks! Is a free-motion sewing machine different to a regular machine or is it just a different foot? I would love to be able to do that kind of free stitching on mine!
Hi Angela, I am using a regular sewing machine and a free-motion quilting foot or darning foot. You do have to disengage the feed dogs on your machine. This is done by lowering them with a lever or covering them with a plate. You may have to refer to your manual. It's a lot of fun! Julia
Love you your videos!!! I have a question that I hope you can answer. I love how you did this but I like to make fabric photo booked for my grandkids: well I made one: I love how you did this but mine will be much bigger and thick. I do have that stuff interfacing and need to use it as it’s expensive. Any suggestions??
Hi, You may not need to have a stiff cover for a photo book. Possible, add an iron-on interfacing to the back side of your fabrics and use a quilt batting between your cover and lining. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching, Julia
But should I punch holes in every signature!? Like page 2 and 12 on one side and 3 and 11, etc....
Or do you have a different video of a fabric book I should also watch. I’m so overwhelmed.
I was so stupid to buy a stuff interfacing. I don’t think it’s quite as stiff as yours. It was pretty expensive so I hate not to use it!? I like to “wonky” stitch like some of what you do but just tell their story from birth until 2 years old.
So sorry I’ve been messing around with the stiff interfacing and I’m thinking there’s no way it would work to have that much binding between the pages. I think I need to do separate pages. How would you suggest joining them
What kind of color you used for painting the grapes ?
Hi Julia, I am wondering about the journal that you show at the very beginning that has the caricature of the woman. Is this something you got from a book like you did from the Charlene Tarbox book? Thank you! p.s. this video is awesome!
Hi Linda, The whimsical girl images are my drawings. If you want to create with them, I have the images available in my Etsy store. The price is $2.49 USD. Here is a link:www.etsy.com/listing/717380089/digital-pdf-printable-whimsey-girls?ref=shop_home_active_1
Thanks for watching, Julia
💚💜❤️
Love your videos, but wanted to say I don't think you mentioned that you worked on a non stick sheet at the first stage of the project.
Hi Barb, Ugh- I forgot to mention it. The Peltex usually doesn't stick to the pressing mat but the using the non stick sheet is a good safety measure. Thanks so much. Julia
Júlia gostaria de saber por favor, onde encontro pra comprar os carimbos que você usa. Obrigada 😊
Hi Luciana, the stamps I used in this project are old "Stampin Up" stamps and are no longer available. I have try to use things that I have on hand. Thanks for watching, Julia
@@stitchesbyjulia que pena Júlia, mas muito obrigada. Já estou aguardando ansiosa pelo seu próximo projeto. Que a abençoe 😊
@@stitchesbyjulia Que Deus a abençoe
Do you have any Copywrite issues using other people's art in the items you sell?
Found your channel today. What is the white material you have inside. I am Swedish. Can you please write the name down for me. I hear Caltex but that is probably wrong, cause I can not find it when I google thank you
Hi, it’s called Peltex. Any heavy interfacing will work if you can’t get Peltex. Thanks for watching!
