This was INCREDIBLE. I was a D1 day one player and within months Destiny had taken over my life - I made incredible friends, got into the lore and started making lore and raid guides because of how much I loved this game. I stopped right around Rise of Iron, I played a bit of D2 but then fell out until Forsaken got me back in, I dropped again right before doing The Last Wish and haven't played since. I am friend groups with 3-4 fireteams still on fb chats and Ill read their messages and check-in whenever a new raid drops or new story points. They let me know last month that it was ending and I can't believe it. I've been binging the content you and others have so thoughtfully put out and Im so sad this story is ending, and even sadder I wasn't "there" when it did, but content like yours really help remind me what an incredible gaming experience and how much fun this game was. Excellent work, thank you!!
"players were disappointed that they only received a cornfield and some benches for $320,000,000" (1:02:42) are you not satisfied by the mere concept of helping those in need? do you not find joy in aiding your allies? is there no solace in providing resources out of the kindness of your heart, with no expectation of recompense? for shame, guardians. for shame.
I hate that they deem SRL "not worth the time" but keep trying to poke at Gambit despite it having fewer active players than the number of people who have completed a raid. It doesn't help that they've essentially kept stirring the pot by including sections of "sparrow track" in certain activities, proving they could easily implement a dedicated racing activity and just actively refuse to follow through on it.
I really wish they would’ve at least tried it again. They just need it as a seasonal event. It would’ve been more interesting than collecting guardian medals
I wish they wouldn't have just completely abandoned Gambit. It's super stale now, yea, but they pretty much ignored it all but like 2 seasons since it launched. Don't get me wrong, I would like SRL as well. I just hate that they constantly talked about how few people played Gambit when they did everything they could to make people not want to play it.
That alpha tower footage looks so much better up close like that. Especially being able to walk with your gun, it makes you feel like you’re IN the tower
the problem with "Refer a friend" in a game like Destiny, is that Bungie in no way incentivizes communication within the game. Sure, lots of activities now literally has a "communication required" but the in-game voice chat is a joke and text chat is an opt-in system... who makes a social game where the chat is OPT-IN instead of opt-out. nobody writes in chat, nobody ever speaks, most people can't even read chat. the amount of times i've had a conversation with a random player in destiny can be summed up in seconds. Compare that to other online games with open-world-style content like WOW zone chats that function pretty similarly to patrol zone chats and it becomes quite obvious that Destiny has very VERY little focus on the social aspects. Having the entire social-aspect of your game rely on third party platforms such as discord to even function, is honestly quite sad.
Eh, I’ve done quite a few raids with no comms just using text chat or emotes to signal stuff, like when we wanted someone to take a buff off a person that person would emote, lotta ways around it really.
For the "How is your sister?" - in one of the final shape campaign missions after you find Crow and Cayde, they're chatting in one of the traversals in the mission and Cayde asks "so HOW is your sister?" and it gets cut by Mara speaking on voice comms letting us know that she also entered the Traveler.
@ShadowDestiny it truly was one of the best campings in gaming history. I hope it's remastered or somehow brought back someday so that future generations can experience it first hand.
Very excited for this one, appreciate all the hard work brother. Love all your content, your passion very prominently shines through with all your projects!

Bill Nighy is a voice acting (and regular acting) legend. Still impresses me he was the Speaker for all of D1 and D2, as well as Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean.
2:53:50 I hope we can someday encounter these creatures, I trust Shuro-Chi when it comes to the dangers these creatures pose but at this point in time we've gotten so strong I'd say we're more than ready to handle this threat.
So I was ghost hunting in vanilla D1 and explicitly remember the Intrusion ghost shell! It was a bugged shell in the room with the then-locked Rapsutin bunker entered from the staircase in the back of the Mothyards on the Cosmodrome where you could kill the super tanky Celebrant of Oryx (the one Datto used to use for DPS testing). Right under the staircase. You would pick it up and it wouldn’t go in your inventory, even though visually it looked like you picked it up. And you wouldn’t get the Grimoire card for it! I remember because it was the only card I couldn’t get for the longest time! There was also a video that shows getting it out of bounds as the actual way to get it, but it just glitches outside the Mothyards and hits the load checkpoint on the water, but it still has the same issue where you pick it up and don’t get it. That’s why the guy had to hack it. That was it.
Sparrow racing was an early concept with most assets made pre D1 launch. There was also an idea where you could build your own sparrows. The first build of the companion app even hinted at this when you navigated to tour vehicles tab and directly down the bottom it would have “0/X sparrows made”
1:16:28 When I was in the army I had a sergeant whose last name was Major, so Sergeant Major. So it was always really funny watching people meet him for the first time regardless of rank and watch them immediately go into "at ease" for him.
I've always viewed the Destiny tricorn logo as a symbol of power. Mostly because Golden Tricorn looks damn near identical to it besides the weird thing down the middle. It also has a triangle right behind it which I associate with the pyramid ships, thus darkness. Put light and dark together as a gun damage perk, you get Golden Tricorn.
about the zero power loot, for some reason i still don't know, everything i kept stayed at 0 power except for the energy slot smg... so i can never go back to being a 0 power guardian.... that's one of my saddest destiny memories
2:16:30 Techland actually made fun of Bungie for their Red Bull stuff in Dying Light. The quest where Kyle Crane has to turn on the water for the folks of Sector 0 was entirely created for the sole purpose of mocking Bungie. From dialogue to silly animations to even a mock ad that Techland posted on their twitter, that quest in Dying Light was made to mock Bungie for their Red Bull / Taken King promotion. Oh man, those Guardian recordings from the Red War broke my heart. I bought D2 without knowing what it was or how to play, just that a friend who knew I was looking for something to replace WoW thought I would enjoy it. So when I finally got to that camp, I spent a LOT of time exploring the camp looking for the next thing I needed to do, and when I heard those voices I stopped and tried to figure out if how I could respond to what sounded like a radio message -- I thought maybe I could go back to the city and rescue them. I still get a little choked up remembering it. I think the only random audio I've heard that hurts as much is that message from Drifter in the EDZ up in that area through the tunnel where you fight waves of Fallen.

The Darkness question is a good one: out of the two, I find the 'Light' or the Traveller more evil than the darkness, considering all that happens with, and after, the Traveller.
