wow chunky long video. Gonna have to go into 'watch later' for now. I still miss the crazy stat bumps of vanilla D1 weapons, like 40 stability or 40 range made so much difference back then! Every gun I levelled up to test out, it was magic. i don't think I missed a bounty for 9 months straight lol.
I think the biggest missed weapons were the ones that broke Gambit, specifically QueenBreaker and its insane aim-assist, although anything broken since then has gradually become "What weapon is broken in Gambit this week". Off the top of my head the only noticeable ones other than QueenBreaker were Xeno, Truth, Arbalest, Lorentz Driver, and Leviathans Breath.
When you mentioned that Spare Rations had an advantage that top players could sense I wanted to give my theory; I believe that very experienced and well versed players like myself who know a lot about Destiny’s mechanics BUT who only has poor to average skill (after 9 years I’m still averaging 1.4) can appreciate aspects like less recoil, better recoil direction, greater stability and especially extra aim assist better than highly skilled players as I’ve noted over the years some of you content creators not caring about aspects I do in certain guns. I believe because your skill is high enough that very small advantages are unnecessary for you and maybe depending on the gun, something like plus 5 aim assist might even go completely unnoticed if you didn’t know. It’s just a theory but I 80% believe it because at my low skill level I get such big improvements from some extra stats.

Hey man, just wanna say I really appreciate these videos! I feel Destiny 1 is so forgotten. Destiny 1 means a lot to me and I'm glad to see someone cover the feeling of it so well. All the mystery, hype, and pure fun is still unmatched in the franchise imo.
I'm a D1 vet and played D2 only until the Warmind expansion. Was really hooked into it. This video brought me joy and nostalgia. I was mindlessly nodding my head almost the whole time lol Thank you for this!
The first “must have” weapon I remember was the Shingen-E, a blue auto rifle that all of my friends insisted was totally overpowered. And it was certainly good, but not long after began the reign of SUROS REGIME
The amount of luck I had with grabbing stuff and rng in d1 is something my buddies still talk about. I picked up gjallarhorn when our had it because "I thought it looked cool" and got crushed for it by them as a "waste". Got THREE mythoclasts in a row within the first week and a half of vault being released as well as 2 amazing roll fatebringers. And got the black hammer. I've never been that lucky ever again in d2 but man do I miss d1. The exotic and legendary weapons were just so much more special in that game
Thank you for making this video. I’m sure it took a lot of time and effort to make. It’s really nice to focus on some stuff that Bungie has always been really good at creating: weapons.
Yeah tried to go back to d1 for a bit a couple years ago and it felt completely unplayable… ancient servers and a dusty old Xbox probably were half of the suffering but still it genuinely gave me a headache the frame rate was so bad
Season of the Forge is easily the best weapon release in the history of Destiny. It's not even close. Also, Note: one part of weapon history in Destiny is when Primary Weapons received infinite ammo. I think that was pretty important.
Got lost in the shuffle, but shouting out Retrofit Escapade's short stint with enhanced target lock, fourth time's the charm, and the artifact mod that gave it volatile rounds on void kills that turned it into a boss eraser during its debut.
when gjallarhorn came back to xur i literally was down the shore with my family for the weekend and i told my parents i needed to go home. My dad actually agreed because he was a destiny player aswell great times we just talked about destiny and how excited we were to get the gjallarhorn XD
I remember the first exotic I got in d1 was the ghallahorn in the prison of elders treasure area. My friend who had originally shown me the game was also at my house and he was pissed lmao
How wonderfully nostalgic this video is. You’ve made me miss my Crimil’s Dagger which rolled with Explosive Rounds. It was like sending a truck towards PvP enemies!
the music at 1:28:27 is why i play destiny. i just love the deep stone crypt, all the weapons, and all the music. ill never forget getting my god roll succession to drop and then eventually crafting my heritage
Most notable during Season of the Wish was obviously Dragon's Breath, but the funniest thing of all was that a select few (one of them was me) figured out that Dragon's Breath benefitted from Gjallarhorn for the first 2 weeks of Season of the Wish, unfortunately, using more than 1 Dragon's Breath broke it's ignitions, thus rendering it useless. BUT! Funnily enough, during that same time, if you had 1 DB without the Catalyst even UNLOCKED, and 1 DB with the Catalyst COMPLETED, both did ignitions at the same time. Thus, for a 2 week period, you could have 2 Dragon's Breath Rocket Launchers benefit from Gjallarhorn during any boss encounter. Along with (in raids) 3 people with legendary rockets. Me and my team absolutely destroyed all of the raid bosses like this, and eventually it was stealth patched during the weekly reset that started week 3 of the season. Very few people knew this!
When you talk about anarchy 57:38 it’s shows telesto. You might want to fix it Edit- Same thing at 1:17:34 with worldline showing bastion Edit 2- are you doing this on purpose because at 1:18:32 it show the gl not astral. I might have missed more.
I'm gonna be honest, I liked the weapons more when they are still fairly contemporary sci-fi. These days they just look like random geometric shapes cobbled together in a vaguely gun-shaped.. thing.
One thing im a bit shocked you didn’t mention about Icebreaker in Rise of Iron was that it was damn near unavoidable in Trials. swap it mid round for something like a shotgun, and it would keep the ammo ice breaker generated.
God, I'll never forget when a random blue or green engram decrypted into an Exotic Auto Rifle (Hard Light). I was the only one of my friends to have an exotic for weeks and it was my favorite weapon.
So i actually bought the Gjallarhorn when Xur sold it the first time. My group could not defeat the Vault of Glass. We tried for hours and one of my friend yelled “I wish we had a fucking Gjallarhorn” I had no clue it was even good. I mentioned i had one and got absolutely cooked by my friends. I equipped it and we literally beat it our next attempt. I ended up getting the only Vex Mythoclast as well 🤣
This was an amazing video. I’ve been playing Destiny for years and I remember hearing and seeing all of these weapons each have their day in the sun. Thank you for an amazing video to watch this weekend
Here to drop one of my D1 weapon experiences. In House of Wolves, there was a HC called "Ill Will" it was high impact with a really low reload and mag size, i believe 6 or7? But during this time you could get weapon rerolls in tower. So i look up a guide on ill will (and felwinters lie lol) got the perfect scope, mag perk, luck in the chamber, and final round. The result was 4 shots in the hc that normally just do 3 taps but if one of the bonus damage rounds proc, which was often, then it would 2 tap! This and felwinters is what made me grind every weekend on all 3 characters for the whole House of Wolves DLC 😅
Glad you enjoyed! I’m well aware most people aren’t playing the game right now, so I’m trying to make stuff that’s still enjoyable even for people who aren’t current players ❤️
Bro the vision of confluence, black hammer, and gjallahorn combo on a solar burn nightfall turned an endgame activity into an absolute joke. I miss those days
i don’t play Destiny 2 anymore but i’m D1 Vet…thank you for making this video. i’m only at 18:29 and the fact that you’re showing concept art i used to day dream about just hits me right in the feels. ❤ thank you 😂
This is just an amazing piece of work, condensing and concisely explaining the (sometimes muddled) story that is Destiny into a succinct, easy to understand timeline. Seriously, well done. 👍🏻
No one used Zhalo Supercell?! I was a MOFO with that weapon. The submachine gun they tried to emulate it with in D2 just wasnt it lol I think it was called risk runner
I happened to luck into a god roll hammerhead, back during black armory, that weapon helped me get a 6 guardian kill during an invasion during gambit (shot up three then ran to the spawn and blade barraged) it just so happens that I had teamed up with three destiny vets, who were trying to do a challenge, they asked if I wanted to join their fireteam. I was nervous at first, joining but not using the headset, and I was honest and said, that was more fluke than skill, but they said it was fine. Eventually I grabbed my mic and enjoyed talking while we played, to the point where I joined his clan, this would lead me to make long time friends throughout the entirety of the pandemic many of whom I still talk to when I can. So thanks Bungie, that gun will always hold a special place in my heart.
i remember when thorn was bad it was the first mission exotic i got and was probably the hardest exotic to get because of how hard the strike was at the boss room. but once house of wolves came out hand cannons went crazy. last word 2 tap hip fired across map, hawkmoon was just a beast and thorn was cancer
man the Taken King era is easily one of my favorite eras, hawksaw and havoc pidgeon was always my goto loadout for PVP, as well as grasp of malok and eyasluna, rise of iron was also really good with hopscotch pilgrim and oversoul edict, man D1 was such an amazing time
The D1 nostalgia is powerful. It’s undeniable that many of the guns were OP and just crazy cracked when they had their moments. But it was FUN!! So much fun.
I stopped playing destiny years ago but was a massive D1 player. All these videos do is remind me of the horrid times I had during some of the metas. The one that always sticks in my mind was the messenger. Having a weapons that was so powerful at the time only being available to the most skilled players in the community was a nightmare lol
22:50 - There's a huge misconception here about Hung Jury. It was strong, but it didn't have a particularly high TTK in the game for PvE. Its popularity was mostly down to its huge availability. If you couldn't get anything else to drop, you could always buy the HJ. There was a similar situation with the Destiny base game with FWC's "The Calling" scout rifle. It had Outlaw, a great perk, but also the original version of "Field Scout", which is why older scout rifles could have 27 bullets in a magazine. This was later nerfed, but it gave people a phenomenal early campaign weapon! You also mentioned Fatebringer - there was another scout rifle in the "61", or at the time highest impact category, called "Gheleon's Demise". It's largely forgotten now, being replaced with Colovance's Duty, but it could also roll Outlaw and Firefly, but with more bullets in the magazine and much greater range and handling. It didn't have the arc burn, but it _did_ have great use in raids for those that had it. Furthermore, it could be reforged like the other Iron Banner weapons too. And because of the handling was greater, so was the reload speed, especially if you had gauntlets that gave you the faster reload perk. But hey, nothing stopped you from taking both guns... But back to Hung Jury - There was _another_ Crucible vendor drop that beat it, also made by Omolon. It was called "Last Extremity", and was a Cocytus SR4 variant, but it had the higher impact rating of Gheleon's Demise, but it could also roll with the same perks as Hung Jury - Triple Tap and Firefly (and also Casket Mag for extra bullets!). It, along with Chaos Dogma, became sought after for PvE activities due to their capabilities in the field. For Scout Rifles in PvP, you're 100% on the money that it was all MIDA (with a little Jade Rabbit thrown in occasionally). One last thing about PvP - At the time of the Hawksaw/Grasp of Malok dominance (and The Messenger, to a lesser extent in ToO specifically), you also saw a small rise in very low impact Auto Rifles, especially for inexperienced players. Because of their high rate of fire and much smaller critical hit modifier, it was favourable to spray bullets far and wide and wear down opponents. Their main disadvantage was their range due to the cone size being a problem compared to Pulse Rifles. Even so, it was funny seeing a return of Atheon's Epilogue for a short while. One last _last_ thing, I had a PvE build with Tlaloc, and Ashes to Assets helmet, Sunbracers, a Solar artefact, fast scout reloading gauntlets, and a 12/12/10 build. With the Grenadier perk, the buff to the Radience Melee for fast charging (which caused explosions on death), you could indefinitely loop grenades that lasted much longer, and stack two of them, and have a higher RoF scout rifle which didn't compromise the impact rating, meaning it fired as fast as MIDA, but with the impact damage of Hung Jury. And because Solar kills generated orbs for allies (and boots that granted bonus movement), you effectively had a soft version of Radiance live at all times, but with extraordinary damage output, especially on Nightfall. And should you use the super, the helmet perk generated bonus super energy with grenade kills, something easy to do when you have an Exotic that improves them immensely. I miss this era of Destiny, but I also miss the PvE era of base game Destiny too. You can tell the early game was meant to be heavily story based, which is why things like the Vex Mythoclast behaved like it did. I can only imagine what the game would have been like if they kept that mindset over the last decade.
I have one big issue with this video and thats the missing of Better Devil. This Handcannon was ultra famous on PC and was the biggest looser of the sunsetting issues and later reintroductions of legendary weapons during Destiny 2s lifeteime. Better Devils biggest impact came from the same advantage Mida Multitool offered which was the radar availability during aiming. For this reason alone this handcanon dominatet the early PC PVP scene as far as Handcanons were considdered and it was nerfed later on.
I can remember 12 year old me being on vacation when Xur sold the gjallarhorn. I went that crazy so that my dad would give a friend of his my PS account data, to get this masterpiece!

Wait… wasn’t Zero hour jokers wild?
Yes bad juju was the exotic mission from opulence
It is true, Gjallarhorn is made, out of dead titan armor. This is why, this is why this game makes me love it.
Another great Nostalgic video.
You might want to fix it
Edit- Same thing at 1:17:34 with worldline showing bastion
Edit 2- are you doing this on purpose because at 1:18:32 it show the gl not astral. I might have missed more.
Absolute monster of a video. Had this running the whole time while farming master lost sectors
I'm gonna be honest, I liked the weapons more when they are still fairly contemporary sci-fi. These days they just look like random geometric shapes cobbled together in a vaguely gun-shaped.. thing.
Bait used be believable
One thing im a bit shocked you didn’t mention about Icebreaker in Rise of Iron was that it was damn near unavoidable in Trials. swap it mid round for something like a shotgun, and it would keep the ammo ice breaker generated.
Man we need icebreaker brooo
God, I'll never forget when a random blue or green engram decrypted into an Exotic Auto Rifle (Hard Light). I was the only one of my friends to have an exotic for weeks and it was my favorite weapon.
*insert every i quit playing but miss it comment*
So i actually bought the Gjallarhorn when Xur sold it the first time. My group could not defeat the Vault of Glass. We tried for hours and one of my friend yelled “I wish we had a fucking Gjallarhorn” I had no clue it was even good. I mentioned i had one and got absolutely cooked by my friends. I equipped it and we literally beat it our next attempt. I ended up getting the only Vex Mythoclast as well 🤣
LMAO
This is one of those core memories that made D1 so special when it was still a relatively new IP
@@infinite_azure_ It was such a fun time. Haven’t had something like that since D1
Amazing video! While almost not playing Destiny right now, I had a blast watching this!
❤ thank you 😂
This video is essentially ~10 years of my life. So much nostalgia and good memories here
God, seeing those 300 power levels is insane. All the nostalgia is wonderful
Witherhoard, Gnawing Hunger, Falling Guillotine on a Void Warlock was my go-to for sooo long
I watch this for 50min on phone im like why this video so long then i tap my screen found out it was a 2hour video 💀
Lorentz Driver just brought back my PTSD
I still have nightmares about thorn in d1 pvp
Dude your talent for making long form content is incredible. Thank you so much. Amazing video 🫡

Apex is a lot better than cold comfort for longer damage phases. I wouldn't say its a second place. But good video!
If you got the last word before xur sold it you were the best player in pvp every game, it was a very fun time
Awesome video. Late to the party vs most of you guys but a big D2 fan now 👍🏽
i remember quitting for the first time because of the Gjallarhorn meta, everywhere you looked it was always "gjallarhorn required"
I had 6 drop for me in D1. It felt like once you got one, it kept dropping.
I once got back to back Ghorns... in the Crota Raid.
This must have been a colossal undertaking. Thank you so much!
So much nostalgia for those early days...
Thorn was and still is my favourite exotic weapon in all of destiny. It was the first exotic weapon I got
0:38 I just got whiplash
you could say this unlocked some old engrams for me.
Vex being described as a “pretty rare drop” is the understatement of the century
Hold on let me get my popcorn…🍿ok go!
i remember when thorn was bad it was the first mission exotic i got and was probably the hardest exotic to get because of how hard the strike was at the boss room. but once house of wolves came out hand cannons went crazy. last word 2 tap hip fired across map, hawkmoon was just a beast and thorn was cancer
man the Taken King era is easily one of my favorite eras, hawksaw and havoc pidgeon was always my goto loadout for PVP, as well as grasp of malok and eyasluna, rise of iron was also really good with hopscotch pilgrim and oversoul edict, man D1 was such an amazing time
the apex predator slander is insane. Way better than cold comfort
Wow. Never have I felt such crazy warm nostalgia watching this! Thanks for making
The D1 nostalgia is powerful. It’s undeniable that many of the guns were OP and just crazy cracked when they had their moments. But it was FUN!! So much fun.
This was a prime time video about destiny and its weapons 🔥🔥🔥
The D2 lore tab for the Mida always tickled me. It makes its PvP dominance canon!
Why did that last little bit about the guardians wielding the weapons make me tear up?
I can see the effort put into this video which is pretty normal for your videos. Took me a few days to watch all of it but enjoyed it.
the nostalic part for me was seeing all the old content creators I used to watch: unknown player, tefty teft, datto etc
this was so nostalgic, so glad i played this game from the beginning
I can remember 12 year old me being on vacation when Xur sold the gjallarhorn. I went that crazy so that my dad would give a friend of his my PS account data, to get this masterpiece!
