I've only ever attempted making an apple pie twice in my baking life and I'm excited to try your recipe for both the filling and crust! I've never been disappointed by any of your recipes that I have tried so far, so I look forward to seeing how this turns out!
@@SugarSpunRun It was fabulous! I even used the pie crust recipe you have shared (which was so easy! goodbye store-bought pie crust!) and my husband's office thoroughly enjoyed the pie! I did notice that when I was baking the pie, there was liquid oozing out of it (fortunately I thought ahead and placed it on a baking sheet before putting it in the oven), I wonder where it could have been from? It didn't ruin the taste or the crust, thankfully, and it was still tasty nevertheless!
@@SugarSpunRunI made it again tonight. I have made this recipe so many times over the years, it’s such a hit with my son who is so picky with flavours and textures. I just want to say, you are my favourite RUclipsrs and the only RUclipsr I go to for recipes as I have learned the hard way in the past that others don’t come close to your tested recipes, nothing is wasted or doesn’t come out. I enjoy your channel and look forward to your recipes.💐🇨🇦
Finished making the crust and the pie. I’m pretty sure I screwed the crust up. I took it out of the refrigerator but I wasn’t sure if I had to let it get to room temperature before rolling it out so I didn’t and it kind of split along some of the edges. I still used it. The filling was pretty good but the topping was incredible. All in all I think it was pretty good but it will get better next time around. Off to your next recipe.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I will normally let it warm up just a little bit to make the crust easier to roll, but you don't want it to get all the way to room temperature. A little cracking around the edges sometimes occurs, but you fold the edges over anyways so it's normally not a huge deal. :)
Excited to try a few of your pie recipes this week. We are nut free...would you recommend omitting the walnuts and topping with your crumble or topping with another pie crust?
I think if you leave out the walnuts, or maybe substitute the walnuts with oats that would be fine. You could certainly use another pie crust on top but I would definitely prefer the crumble topping. I hope you love it. 😊😊
I really want to try this recipe. I have made apple pie in the past, but I have always used corn starch in the mix. I don’t like Granny Smith so can I use another apple?
Hey Sam! I hope you are well! Just a question with making this the day before - should I keep it in the fridge or keep it at room temperature? Covered of course but what do you recommend? Thank you! I’m sure my family are going to love this for Christmas dessert!
Hmm, I'm thinking that this will be my first pie that I make. I've got everything except the apples. I didn't see a pumpkin pie in your playlist. I'm thinking I must have overlooked it.
Hello Sam, Can I make this a day before Thanksgiving? Would I bake it the day of or before? It'll be my first time making Apple Pie I hope it comes out perfect!
@@SugarSpunRun Thank you for the response how would I store it? The apples won't turn ugly? Or do you just recommend me baking it on Thanksgiving? Sorry for all the questions I really want it to come out good.
It’s always best completely fresh, but if you make it ahead of time it will be ok to cover at room temperature. You don’t want to leave it out at room temperature much longer than a day or two so refrigerate after that. The apples won’t go bad.

I go to your recipes for everything you make it easy for me to understand and I love that even I feel like I can do it
Thank you so much! I’m so glad they are helpful and easy to understand. 😊
Love apple pie♥ Thanks for sharing!

Hi, this looks like an awesome apple pie recipe! I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing this oldie but goodie. See you soon, Dolores 🥰
I can never get enough apple pie! 😊
Made this apple pie and it turned out great. The first day it tasted good, but after sitting for another day it became incredible!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much! :)
Made this pie again, I’m addicted, so easy to make and tastes wonderful

This looks sooo fabulous! My apple pies used to get compliments from even my mother-in-law.. but I learned a couple of new things with this recipe! 👍💗
I hope they’ll love this one just as much! 😊
OMG is that delish. And I haven't even baked it yet! Taking it to my cousin's house to watch the Pat's game. I'll let you know how it goes.
I hope everyone loved it! :)
Thanks for this! Making it soon!
I hope you love it! :)

Thanks for your suggestions!
Just wanted to give an update and say this has become our go to apple pie recipe. My son even requested it for his birthday this year.
Can I use a mixer to mix all dry ingredients including butter
I really want to try this recipe. I have made apple pie in the past, but I have always used corn starch in the mix. I don’t like Granny Smith so can I use another apple?
Any firm tart apple should work here, honeycrisp, braeburn or Jonagold. :)
This is the best apple pie I ate in my life! Thanks a lot! And I cooked it myself despite being a man. ^_^
I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much! :)
Ooh. That looks amazing.
Thank you so much! 😊
Hello
Can you use Pecans ? Instead
That will certainly work if you prefer pecans. :)

You can do either. Personally I like mine at room temperature. I end up warming it a little bit anyways. 😊
Thanks for your reply :)
Your website doesnt have the ingredient list for the crumb topping.
If you scroll down in the ingredients list underneath crumble topping. 😊 sugarspunrun.com/sour-cream-apple-pie/

Hello Sam, Can I make this a day before Thanksgiving? Would I bake it the day of or before? It'll be my first time making Apple Pie I hope it comes out perfect!
It will be fine to bake the day before. If anyone likes it warm I typically heat up slices in the microwave for a few seconds. 😊

@@SugarSpunRun Thank you so much Sam your amazing I'll let you know how it comes out 🤗
Can you make topping of apple pie without walnuts
You can always leave them out 😊
Is there a way to convert this to a sugar free version?
Unfortunately I’m not very familiar with sugar substitutes. They would probably be your best option but I’m not sure how it would turn out.
Okay, I accept the challange - this weekend it's the crust AND the filling AND the topping, yeah that's right.
You've got this!! 🤩
@@SugarSpunRun Oh, I'm feeling mighty dangerous... Have a great weekend.
