I do take your point...however after each international punch up or near punch up another bogeyman appears to the superpowers. Remember in the Pacific battlefront after WW2, thousands of tons of " surplus" jeeps, tanks & other armaments were dumped into the ocean, heedless of the marine life destroyed. All of the middle east battlefields are still littered with toxic garbage & we often get that " here we go again" sense of events for the future

anyway, here's what i'm suggesting, we can use the plastic we throw and stuff to make co2 filters for cars, and people can bring the co2 to the closest gas stations to be used for other things since we can't dump it again we can put it in other place ,i heard you can use it for beer, or blasting in the coal mines ...extinguishing fires caused by the warming of the earth (or just fires in general)..

Jordan Peterson's analysis of how to protect the environment is wrong. It is not through billionaire philanthropy and genius whizkids inventing super structures that mean no one has to give anything up. The only real assured way to protect the environment is through democracy. Taxing the rich to fund government regulation that substantially limits pollution. And yes that involves protesting, much to Jordan Peterson's horror.

New ideas and technologies tend to not be easy in realization. New things have never been done before so there isn't much experience with them to lean on and unforseen issues tend to sprout along the way.
That the very first attempt underperformed is very much expected and it doesn't mean the whole project should be abandoned. It's very much acceptable considering it was a prototype. Prototypes are ment to reveal issues and mistakes in the design and deliver data about those and their performance so the can be improved upon.

Let me begin by stating the obvious as to massive undertaking of such a project, but also as commendable and needed.
That said, the footprint created by recycling those plastics is immense, whereas manufacturers can obtain virgin plastic for so much less, creating cleaner overall products.
This and all the other groups involved in cleanup efforts are sorely needed.
The real game changer has to be a worldwide weaning off of plastics to other compostable materials to be used, especially in the packaging industry for starters.
Where are we going as a Planet if we are not committed to the removal of plastics from the stream at their point and source of origin?
It seems meaningless if on the one hand we cleanup a fraction of, while on the other hand produce so much more plastic waste?

    • @coryb333
      @coryb333 5 лет назад

I could not believe that they are going to put the plastic they collect back into the waste stream. What is the point, it's just going to end up in the ocean if they give it back to lazy consumers. We need solutions that get these products out of our production cycles.

There's a good write-up of the project by The Washington Post titled "Experts warned this floating garbage collector wouldn’t work. The ocean proved them right".
To summarize the kid being too full of himself from all the positive attention didn't listen to legit criticism by experts, and instead chose to waste people's time and money on a solution that probably will never work.

And now it has been shown that this project is an abysmal failure, a complete waste of money. Gee, if only this no-qualifications "innovator" had only brought on board some people who actually knew what they were doing.

@@birjub9647 No he isn't. All this project has done is create more pollution and not a single thing cleaned up in over a decade. Even if they had it just get's recycled and ends back up in the ocean. It's a bad idea from the start. And a failure.

@@forestdweller5581 Did you watch his presentation last year? the project is quite a success they are a year early then what they had predicted. They have already put up the 1st cleaning system in the ocean and they are currently testing it. All the garbage they pick up from the ocean will be recycled they already have plans for that. All this information is out for the public. Just have a look at it!

problem 2:17 ..I could have told you that..in fact, ANY naval engineer cld have told you that.
"solution" 3:04 great that you admit that YOU were not the genius anyone here is pushing for.
But to collect garbage is to have RELATIVE different speeds between floating garbage and the u shaped collector. How is this accomplished with a flooating Ushape amongst floating smaller particles?
In fact the LARGE U shape is likely to go SLOWER in waves and current and wind than the smaller parts....but the U shape is thus WRONGLY put. 3:09
"gravitate " ?? It s not "plastic static electricity" of small plastic bags that can "pull" the large U shape? is it ?
