    --
    Trash accumulates in five ocean garbage patches, the largest one being the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, located between Hawaii and California. If left to circulate, the plastic will impact our ecosystems, health, and economies. Solving it requires a combination of closing the source, and cleaning up what has already accumulated in the ocean.
    The ocean is big. Cleaning up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch using conventional methods - vessels and nets - would take thousands of years and tens of billions of dollars to complete. Our passive systems are estimated to remove 50% of the Great Pacific Garbage patch in just five years, and at a fraction of the cost.

      Because this doesn't gives much money to the elites compared to taxing countries to death while signing a climate accord where every countrie compromises to do... nothing.

    I think this is a great idea, and God bless the guy and all these people for what they do. My only concern is, even though it's a great idea, while the system will surround the already existing plastic trash in the water, people will still keep dumping more trash in the ocean, so there will be new trash around the system. People need to stop trashing the oceans! There should be an international law against it and the violators should be prosecuted.

      Aurobirre in every curse or sickness there are two steps : heal (which is what he proposes) and prevent (or replace). Both are extremely important but their importance depends on the advancement stage of the problem !

    • @thebreifcaseman269
      @thebreifcaseman269 3 месяца назад

      No, the problem is, that western countries pay Asian countries that don't have the infustruture to recycle huge amounts of plastic, to recycle their plastics. And so they pretty much just dump it in land fills and it all just ends up in the oceans anyway, there is enough plastic in the world to just stop creating it all together but there isn't any where in the world equipped with the facilities to recycle enough before everyone would run out. Also you would have to pull out a lot of plastic everyday and currently, even now there isn't enough plastic being taken out of the environment to seize production. Although I genuinely believe that if you shut down every single factory that makes plastic, one at a time and turned them into recycling plants you could easily recycle enough plastic to neaver need to make any more of it. As long as you could take Enough out of the oceans rivers, and in the streets.

    Every rich country should donate a ship dedicated to sailing round the world just picking up rubbish until it's cleared. 20 huge ships sailing continuously for about 10yrs should do it. China should pitch in at least a half dozen ships of their own as most of the cheap plastic goods come from there !!

    • @lolomcspanky
      @lolomcspanky 6 лет назад +8

      In the video (that you're commenting on) he says using vessels and nets would take about 79,000 years. It's a little under 2 minutes long; I'm kind of amazed that you can't pay attention to an informational video on a topic for two whole minutes and are simultaneously confident that you can solve huge problems in that topic. My hat is off to your confidence, though. Congrats!

      No shipping company would risk their billion dollar ship going through any hazard, big or small, with slightest risk of damage. Or at the very least not the captains. it's just not worth the down time, and/or penalty for late arrival, if shit goes wrong. I already expect them to avoid a small island of garbage like a virus; floating around in the waters already.

      Eventually, I imagine a combination of businesses and governments would pay. We could impose plastic taxes and tariffs on manufacturers of plastics and plastic goods (China would love that) or consumers of plastic at the point of sale. It works with cigarettes. Three hundred million divided by China, the US and the EU is doable over 20 years.

    • @keithsamuels7645

    great idea but, can the barrier handle "Heavy Disaster" like tornado (at the ocean some times), thunder storm, Crazy Heat (up to 60 celcius on come part of the ocean)
    , or maybe some Tsunami? (Tsunami is rarely happend but.. yea), and what about sea animals?
    like whale. and it maybe distrubing some water transportation right?
    we have to think really hard for it. and i think the durability of the barriers cant even reach 50 years because it has to be light weight, and durable. and of course its not eazy to put durability, light weight, weather proof materials into a Ultra Long barrier on the ocean. and, some times wind direction changes and Maybe wind does matter but, hmmm... yeah, im only 13 so haha what do i know about the ocean? not much..
    thanks, and sorry bad english
    [i think if the barrier durability can reach 100 years on the ocean, thats would be Great!]
