  • Today #TeamSeas campaign was launched with the goal to raise 30M dollars to remove 30M pounds of trash. The Ocean Cleanup and Ocean Conservancy were chosen as the non-profit partners for cleaning up trash in rivers, oceans, and beaches. Subscribe to our channel: bit.ly/371k8sN
The campaign is initiated by MrBeast and Mark Rober, two content creators on RUclips. It is a follow-up to their widely successful TeamTrees campaign, launched in 2019 that raised over 20M dollars to plant 20M trees.

To rid the oceans of plastic, we need to not only clean up what is already out there but also stop new plastic from entering the ocean: we need to close the tap.
Rivers are the main source of ocean plastic pollution. They are the arteries that carry waste from land to the ocean. Our research found that 1000 rivers are responsible for roughly 80% of the pollution.
Working together with government leaders and private corporations, our goal is to tackle these 1000 most polluting rivers. How? By deploying Interceptors.
The Interceptor is The Ocean Cleanup’s answer for river plastic waste. It is the first scalable solution to prevent plastic from entering the world’s oceans from rivers.

My concern is that after all this Clean up, the local municipalities might dispose off the waste improperly resulting in a certain percentage of the waste back into the rivers. It's a great initiative, I fully support it but it's important that we ensure the loop is complete with proper end disposal of garbage thus ensuring that it does not return to the ocean.

I believe people would be more aware about this issue and will at least acknowledge how their day-to-day behaviour is a part of the problem. Team seas made it to tv stations, almost all across the youtube platform, and etc. Although, we absolutely cannot expect these poorer communities to change as they have no other options given to them. Just ask them, do they want to live in garbage piles? Of course not.
Anyways, I'm going on a ramble here but I thank you for letting me have an excuse to share my 2 cents. Cheers!

Hey team, the design has an escape route for fish but not the floating vegetation, which is being included in your measurements as trash. I wonder if that's something that could be improved upon? Looks very effective at removing pollution but perhaps also effective at removing plants and maybe that needs an ecologist to measure the significance and keep an eye on to ensure the local living ecosystem isn't collateral damage in this brilliant idea. Amazing overall, well done!

Please consider that they do not have the privilege that most of us here have. Instead of telling them to stop consuming what they can only afford, the RICH producers should be the one to stop being irresponsible in the production. The poor are not the problem, they're victims too. If the rich stop hogging all the resources and the people of power do something about these communities, most of the problems will be resolved.

A few hours once a week where the local citizens collecting trash and place it in dumpsters placed in neighborhoods could make the entire country cleaner and healthier for the locals and drastically cut down on the amount of trash in the rivers as well.

    • @sorryifoldcomment8596
      @sorryifoldcomment8596 2 года назад +1

Yeah the #1 goal of every country should have a trash system, like in the U.S. That's a must have, should be a primary goal to implement a system like the one here in every city. I definitely take all the dumpsters and trash cans in my area for granted. There are 6 giant dumpsters and 6 recycling dumpsters just in my apartment complex. With instructions on what can be recycled, etc. There are also trash cans along the streets, in public parks, freaking everywhere! Every house has their own trash can & recycling bin. I can't imagine what I'd do without them. Or what I'd do if the city didn't come by and empty them once a week. Cuz that shit gets full.

Adding a “top 10 donators” list to your website could lead to good competition between those who can really afford it at the very top to donate larger amounts to this cause to be at the top of this list! It’s good gamified PR for them and just adds to this great cause for you!
Imagine Jeff bezos donating $5m, is coming first, just to be out donated with $6m by Elon and they go back and forth for number 1.

If you only donate to ''win'' something your donating for the wrong reasons. If you care about the oceans you support in what way you can for the ocean. And not for your own ego boost.

A person can have more than one purpose behind doing a thing, and the more incentive, the more donation money, the more trash can be intercepted and cleaned, regardless of whether there was some intent, other than the will to help, behind these extra donations.

Can't believe it's already 2 years ago that the interceptor was unveiled. This partnership is well deserved. Keep up the good work

This is great and i think you could have even more impact if you also tow some of those containers to the communities upriver so they could throw their trash directly in the container.
