Bible's acting is on another level compared to the other debutes. But also, he got a very mature character to play. Vegas is no schoolboy. His personality is complicated, and many scenes must have been particularly demanding for Bible to perform. He's outstanding, I look forward to seeing him in future productions, not only BL. Such a talent shouldn't go to waste ✨️
As someone who pays little attention to the names of actors and even less to their career arcs, this anual list always helps me to appreciate performances retrospectively. In most instances, when I watch a series I focus on comprehending story and wallowing in whatever emotion generated therefrom. I may notice an actor or two, but I tend to be so story-centric in my personal reaction that I don't always appreciate the craft of the performers. I also (cynically) think a lot of BL actors could be easily interchangeable with other actors in much the same way that soap opera acting seldom requires deep acting chops. Thus, this list makes me think about the performances in a new and different context, and I appreciate it for that reason. This year, about half Mr Critic's selections played roles in series I did not see; so, I can't really complain about the order he ranked them. I will say that Sea, Earth (Rak), and Tutor all stood out to me for exceeding the quality of their fellow cast and/or the material they were given to play. For me, Earth's performance is the standout. Likewise, the only actor from the gaggle of pairings in You're My Sky who actually stood out to me was Boom. He sparkled amidst a sea of sameness. Mark and NuNew were unobjectionable, but I am unsure I can draw conclusions about their potential from the series they were in. I seldom know who is a debutant and who arrives with previous experience. For example, I liked Yim in Cutie Pie as well. Thus, I have no idea whether he's not on the list because Mr Critic preferred other performances (didn't make the cut) or because he is not, in fact, a rookie BL actor. If only I actually did pay attention to career arcs, I guess I'd know!
I agree with your No. 1 choice of Bible Wichapas. When I first heard that KP was his acting debut, I thought someone was mistaken. He is a master of facial micro expressions that tell entire stories. As perfectly as he inhabited the character of Vegas, I can't wait to see what else he can do.
Completely agree that Bible should be the top choice. Wow, was he amazing in KP. Such a magnetic presence. When he was onscreen, I couldn't look away. His fabulous bottom certainly didn't hurt either. (Side note: are you confirming a KP 2?? I hope so.) For Mark, I think Sky in your Heart was a weak series. I'd need to see more of him before I can judge his ability. Same for Nunew. He's a pretty crier, but I wanted to see more from him. I had completely forgotten about the two actors you mentioned from You're My Sky, but I agree. They were the two best parts of that series. Tutor and Barcode were also very good. I'm eager to see what Tutor can do in Middleman. I didn't watch Rak Diao, so I can't comment on Earth. I'm curious to see how Sea handles Last Twilight. Maybe Aof can pull a great performance out of him. I liked Fort in LITA. Of the four actors, I agree that he was the best.
This list has inspired a new ambition for my life: to produce a Thai adaptation of Ursula LeGuin's most famous literary accomplishment. The casting of that series writes itself. It shall go down as the most legendary pairing of actors with material ever seen! Behold this ship and be in awe! EarthSea!
Bible as Vegas is definitely number one for me too. He portrayed his dynamics with each of the other characters- in particular Pete and Porsche so well. His rage, his frustration, his regret, his fear, his cruelty, his hurt, his nonchalance, all of it looked so very believable. Stellar performance even for a seasoned actor - let alone for a debutant. I also loved to hear him speak his English lines. They sounded so hot !! But I'd have put Fort as Prapai from LITA a little higher up in this list. Both Sky and Pai were difficult roles to portray and both Peat and Fort did justice to their respective roles.
A solid list that I mostly agree with. I agree Bible for the #1 spot but would have Earth for #2 and would move NuNew probably down to #10. I would love to see Bible and Earth as a pairing and love to see NuNew do a more rebellious / bad boy role.
Aside from the number 3 from Rak Diao (that I haven't watched yet) I completely agree. Some powerhouses were revealed this year and I am excited for what is to come. I am just unsure if I would put Fort instead of Peat as best actor, both of them did a good job...
I think the consensus view from us "haters" of Cutie Pie was that the script ill-served the actors, none of whom were to blame for the deficiencies we found with the series overall. The actors were the bright spot in that mess. Contrast that with You're My Sky. That scipt was only average to start, but wooden performances from a few of those actors (though not the two included here) made the final product more bland. So, the inclusion of both Tutor and NuNew here is just.
Nice, not an easy video to do. Just thinking about other people for the list envolved a lot of work for me. First just trying to remember all the series, then checking the bios to see their previous work. Not easy. I was also surprised by both Earth and Bible being rookie actors, but I think it really goes to show how difficult it is for young actors to get that first break. Makes you wonder what other great young actors we have not heard about. I think even in a big agency like GMM I think it is difficult. So I am sure there is a level of frustration when you work hard and someones current favorite or a rich connected person gets the role. I agree with BLC and others that Bible is a good pick for number 1, I think his acting was outstanding in KP. I think both Earth from Rak Diao and Sea from Vice Versa are good choices. I enjoyed Rak Diao but think I would not have if not for the casting of Earth, he was a real stand out for me. Sea when I first saw him I thought who is this guy, but after watching him I understood why they picked him, his acting was good and has a quality that really stands out as well. I do not like the ship of either of them and hope they get other casting in the future. I guess I also do not understand the the number 2 pick of Nunew, I think the young man has some skills, he is a good singer, and his acting was not bad. I do not like how he has been marketed since the series and I have to say I think his relationship with Zee will be his downfall. Tutor also from Cutie Pie, it is hard to say, a handsome guy but did not really have enough screen time to really tell for me. Barcode I was not that impressed from KP but since the series he has had a real glow up for me and think he could be strong in a KP2. But I think they would be better served to do other projects and keep KP as a stand alone. I also like Boom and Porsche from You're My Sky, Boom more so, he has that special something that makes him stand out. Fort from Love in the Air was the stand out for me from that series as well, very hot guy but a good actor as well. Mark from Sky in Your Heart does not do anything for me, maybe in another role. If I had to pick I think I would take Dunk over him. A few picks from me, remember BLC is better informed than me, I think these are first timers. Mhing Thatsaphon (So) from Our Days I think was good, Copper Phuriwat ( Micky, Mon's younger brother) stood out to me and at times in a very slow passed series stole the show. Save Saisaivat , Maito from Why You.. Y Me and also Ai Long Nhai, I think is good. Ping Krittanun, Nhai from Ai Long Nhai I really like. You do not really realize his acting skills until you see him in interviews, very different in real life I think.
Sam.. it was a real uphill struggle finding all of these out.. I have to cut out Mile and Force.. ( I though Mild only did music videos and Force was a Debutant).. And I agree how difficult it is to get a role.. esp when everyone wants to make it to the silver screen and some even though they detest, still have to do BL and kiss another guy. I feel for them as most get exploited one way or the other. About the others you recommended.. So and mon both were contenders. Save I am yet to watch ( he is a youtuber though). NuNew for me showed a lot of potential.. he was not able to showcase it in the series.
@@blcritic Kinda funny that you did that video. I was thinking the other day it would be interesting to do who would be our dream picks if we were to cast a series. I have been watching the I Will Knock You series, I kinda like and hate it at the same time. I really like Tar Atiwat, at first did not realize he was from the Pee Nak movies, he is good. The other actor Bom is a good pick but I really do not like how they have directed him to do that over the top kinda slap stick style you see in a lot of Japanese movies. Also it is so slow paced. You should really check out Why You.. Y Me, it is well done, very slick and kinda coming from a different angle. Finishing up Choco Milk Shake, not really my thing but I like it, they made it work. Could have been a mess. Just have to say again how much I loved Khun Chai To Sir with Love. Nothing can knock out Symantic Error from number 1 for me but it is right up there.
may be in Jan I will make a video about my dream cast or dream remakes in a video. I will knock you tries to be funny.. and I love Tar still as you said it is slow and the slapstick fun factor is lacking. I am yet to watch Why you Y me...
Earth from Rakdiao was a rookie actor? He was so good. Bible at no 1 is good choice, he was believable as Vegas. Nunew as a singer is great maybe Cutiepie did not do justice to his potential. For me, Sea would be at no 2.
I also agree with you about about NuNew. Six months later, and it's the singing I remember, not the acting. But that script would have shackled any performer in that role, so "did not do justice to his potential" is an apt description.
Rak Diao is the only one series, I did not watch. It was not available for me.But I agree with Bible as number one👏.His character was total mess, but he portrayed him very well.He was still a young kid, who wanted pleased his father. Nr.2 for me Fort from Love in the air. His smile was another level🤩😍and he was the best husband material in the end.Nr.3 Porsche Tanatorn. Dome and Wee were my thing, they made the series for me, cuz the main leads had no chemistry at all!And I also liked Tutor from Cutie Pie,he had a great chemistry with Yim. I hope Barcode will have more screentime in season 2 of KP. His relationship with Kim ended bad...
@@blcriticThank you, I was trying it, when I heard about this show, it was not available, but I tried it again after your reply and it is on youtube in my country now. But it is weird, cuz it is one31 channel and I was watching To sir, with love with no problems on the same channel 🤔🤔
As someone who only watch kdrama and semantic error. Cutie pie is my first thai bl series that i watch when i don't have any kdrama on my list. And i had to say nunew acting is good. So its a bit shocking to know that some people don't like his acting. Anyway I'm looking forward to his other series coming soon. This is just me a kdrama lover opinion and i just have a urge to point this topic out.
Bible is a standout. BOC frustrates me quite a bit so I truly hope he is given great projects in the future. Unlike most KP fans, I am not looking forward to a season 2. I worry about the authors' influence on the production and their inappropriate behavior towards the actors.
Backaof does 2 series a year.. this year.. apart form 2 eps of Our sky 2.. he will be only directing Last twilight. Moonlight chicken is ready for airing.. so may be by feb they will start pre production works like script and location etc.
