    First as Yok and Akk was a standout for me. Bible as Vegas as well, but I would add Build as Pete. His character ranged from comedic to tragic and he played both incredibly well.

    YESSSSSS thank you for including First !! I looooooooove his acting in Not Me, he deserves an award for his portrayal. After discovering First, he just easily became my fav Thai actor 💛💛 I totally agree with your choices of Gun, Jeff, Bible, and Apo (they’re the ones I’m most familiar with) but ones that I would have liked mentioned are Barcode and Louis 🙈🙈 they’re acting was too good to go unrecognized. I know that the storyline can heavily influence your impression of actors but they are true gems, especially considering how young they are too

    I was not so much surprised by "not me" as by Off. I know him from many series in which he proves his comedic talent, but I always thought he was an acting lightweight. Comedies are certainly not easy, because it depends on speed and the right moment to get a punch line right, but to play such an internally driven character I would not have believed him. He has so many facets in the series, from closed and dismissive, disgusted with life, fanatical, unsympathetic to vulnerable, sad, loving and happy. It's actually a tragic role because he plays someone who leaves his protective cocoon and who loses (at first).He does all this with his facial expressions and his eyes that seem so empty and dead in some scenes and then so intimate.... Someone I always thought was just the clown at Gun's side, flashed me.

    Great video! Though I haven't watched To Sir With Love (yet) or My Only 12%, I would probably agree with your choices there, too. Yes, Earth and Fluke have to cry a LOT and I'd like to see them stretch a little.
    For me, the standouts were First in both Not Me and The Eclipse, Bible in KinnPorsche, Pond in 180 Degrees and Title in Remember me. Title is the only thing in Remember Me that has kept me hanging on til the end. I don't care much about the series (at least it's not sepia toned this time) but I do want to see what happens to Name.
    Nike's bathrobe in 180 Degrees also earns an honorable mention for doing the Lord's work and hanging as far open as possible.

    Such a great list. I have to give you my top 4 because they are so tightly bunched in my mind. 1. Bible 2. First 3. Nike and Pond are tied. Bible is at the top of my list because he was a newbie and was just so damn good. First as Yok just grabbed my heart and didnt let go. For me Nike and Pond were so good together and played off each other so well, I had to jointly give them my third ranking. Thanks for another great video!

    Two things about this list stand out to me:
    1. At least three series delivered multiple actors for the list (accounting for 7 of 11 performances). UPSHOT: good acting begins with good writing and good direction. Yes, good acting can elevate a routine script into something more interesting (see War at #3!) and poor acting can sink a good script. But perhaps actors create "career best" performances when the material they work with gives them material to shine. When one script elevates multiple performers, then spread the love to the writers, too.
    2. Recency bias? KinnPorsche and Not Me both aired in the first half of the year. May have missed one, but I think all the other performances cited came from series fresher in memory. Is it possible the second half of this particular year packed in more powerhouse performances? Sure. But when Hollywood studios think a film has Oscar potential (in any category) they often schedule a late autumn release date precisely because that means those films will be fresh in the mind of Oscar voters. I got no suggestions for egregious overlooked early year performances. But it seems statistically unlikely that only two series that aired before July featured acting good enough for this list, even if those two series generated 5 of the 11 performances recognized here.

    I must confess, I haven't watched all the series in here (although every single one of them is on my list). It is hard for me to pick a top 3, but in my list I would certainly include Khaotung as well. And I must say, I was not expecting Title from Remember Me here, yet I could not be happier seeing him. The series is still ongoing, but so far he REALLY delivered. With 3 words spoken in like 8 episodes, you know exactly how he feels. And that is not something anyone can pull. And he has a somewhat secondary role, but I think that, given the opportunity and role, he has the potential to go high. There is star quality in him. I really hope the best for him! (For everyone in this list to be honest, but he's gotten a specific hold on me)

    Title is cute and he performed well in Remember me. My top 3 is nike, Bible, War. Like you, I hope War does serious, mature roles. If the industry stops this shipping business the actors could diversify and do different roles instead of prototype roles. Instead of mainstream Bl actors, Tae got to do completely different roles in Triage & Paint with love. I liked him in both series. I would include him in my Top 10.

    With an unbiased attitude though I’m so fond of *”To Sir, With Love”* : *Film Thanapat* stands out in crowd from my point of view. He was able to play a closeted gay guy in the era of WW II, who was born to prestigious, conservative Chinese parents & as an anticipatory successor to his father. So this character was under pressure. Film nailed it with an absolutely appropriate acting. Not too much obvious, still differentiated. Tian looked delicate but not susceptible & even though he’s taller than Jiu, Film was able to make viewers believe he’s a little kitten🐯dandling around a giant dog🐶.
    The scene that deserved a standing ovation👏🏼 was when Tian was locked up in a cabin with his father. He crouched to kiss Jiu’s hand through a rift with a wistful affection😢. It will be remembered as one of the best memorable love scenes in Thai lakorns.
    Speaking of *TSWL* : I’d also like to add *Gift Wattana* as an honorable mention. He played Magnate Zhang : when he showed up at the very first scene in ep 1, you could tell right away this man had something different. Then his character committed suicide & came back as Magnate Song’s subconscious worry in the penultimate episode. At his lowest point that he killed himself & when his spirit was set free after he died, you’d empathize with him despite he played very few scenes in the show. A round of applause to you too, *P’Gift*.👏🏼

    I have not seen Remember Me, To Sir, With Love, or 180 DLPTU yet. The holiday season is slowing me down getting shows off my watchlist. My top 3 are Bible, Earth, and War. I may have a unpopular opinion but I want War to partner with someone else besides Yin. His acting needs to shine outside of that pairing. Bible needs to branch out into other roles quickly as I am concerned about him being typecast as Vegas. Iconic roles are a two edged sword for actors. Earth does cry a lot in his roles but he is such a pretty crier though. I would love to see him play a non-school age role where he is paired with someone older.

    Nice list. How come I have the feeling all these guys have something in common, mmmm.
    I think I would have put Film from To Sir with Love higher on the list, such a professional. I have seen a lot of interviews with him and Jam and they have a nice connection, they have been friends for 3 years.
    Trilled that you put Title Teshin fron Remember Me on the list, he was good in the Yearbook and like him a lot in Remember Me. Very good up and coming actor.
    Also glad you put War Wanarat on the list, he is such a multi talented person. Of all the ships I like the YinWar ship the most. I think they seem so down to earth and do not take themselves to seriously. My fear is that War becomes a celebrate like PP and does not follow the acting path.
    Nike Nitidon from 180DLPTU and Apo Nattawin from KP are at the top for me as well, both so professional. I think maybe for me, I would put Nike number 1.
    Two actors I think that are very talented and would put on the list even though they were in bad series are Yoon Phusanu from Unforgotten Night and Talay Sanuandikul from War of Y.

      I like Earth, he seems from interviews a very smart guy. His acting in UWMA was one of the few things I liked. I think it is amazing that he is able to pull off playing teen roles at 28. I really did not like the character he played in My 12%, they made him so annoying (I thought) I do not know if he was directed to play that way or it was his own take on the character??? Since his character was so central to the series, it kinda turned me off to the series. Which I think is too bad because I think the story itself was interesting. As far as Earth following in the foot steps of PP, I don't know???. What PP does is kinda classy and with a sense of humor. I really do not understand what Earth is doing, his outfits seem over sexualized, with short shorts, mini skirts, tube tops. I do not understand if he is being trans, trying to please a partner or it is just an act for social media. If it is just an act, mmmm, maybe people should think about that. Maybe he has been open about it and I just do not know, since I don't really follow him that much.
      I just finished watching a short Japanese series (4 parts) called Kimi no Koto Dake Mite Itai, (You're the Only One I Want to See) WOW really loved it, very real, cute and sweet. Kinda had that Takara Kun and Amagi Kun feel to it which I loved and what I wished Eternal Yesterday had been.

Watched Connect but kinda didn't connect.. even though the violence and gore were my type. It could have bene made better.

      @@blcritic Have watched My School President and Never Let Me Go.
      My School President is cute, Aof is a good director and he does not disappoint. I like the casting, Forth is good as Gun and really hits the right note. Gemini asTinn is ok, really do not fell the chemistry between them yet. But the story is just the same old stuff and they have even thrown in a reference to Love Sick. It seems like GMM never has an original idea, play it safe GMMtv.
      Never Let Me Go is one of the series I had hopes for. I do like the Pond Phuwin ship and now we are getting Chimon Perth as well. Again not anything original here, son of rich mafia guy and bodyguard hook up, Golden Blood, KP. So far what I have seen I am not impressed. To start off with is the casting issue, if you are going to tell the same old story you better get the casting right, again we have GMM casting ships and not actors right for the part. There is an akwardness about Phuwin that was perfect for Fish Upon the Sky but I do not know if it is right for this character. We start out with the character of Palm (Pond) working part time on a fishing boat. Pond a light skin guy who looks like he hasn't worked out in the sun a day in his life, come on people. If you are going to cast Pond, why include that story line. Also Palm's father is the right hand man to one of the richest men, part of the family, why does his son have to work on a fishing boat. This is just sloppy stupid writing. To Sir With Love had it's share of sloppy writing, but the casting was spot on and could be over looked. It is just the first episode, so I am going to give them a break and see what happens.

    I find a lot of the BL pairings creepy, particularly the ones with height differences. I find the younger partners in Cutie Pie verging on the infantile and I find it gross that the adult looking/older partners would want to have sex with these boy/children. Then they get stuck with these boy/men and never get paired with a guy of comparable size and masculinity. Zee and Saint is a more attractive couple to me than Zee's Cutie Pie partner. This is one of the many reasons I love KinnPorsche. Kinn and Porsche are both traditionally masculine guys but they both can show vulnerability and we have an idea of the sexual dynamic between them. I would like to see more of this and less of the ultra virgin/babydoll boyfriends.

      @johnmaster3748 2 года назад +2

      I certainly agree with the spirit of this post, in that much is left to be desired regarding the way in which couples get paired up in Thai BL. And the "ultra virgin/babydoll" archetype grates every fiber of my being. Likewise, it's irritating that taller so repetitively correlates with top/more masculine while shorter correlates with bottom/less masculine. Hang out with enough gay men and you quickly realize height is no predictor of such details. Therefore, BL shouldn't perpetuate the nonsense that height matters. But I am uncertain why any height difference should be labeled "creepy" as a default. Surely creepiness arises from personality and character attributes rather than objective, inborn physical characteristics outside the individual's control? That label better befits some of the age gaps. Emotional maturity aside, the social power and social standing a 25 year-old has in comparison to most 18 year-olds is substantial. That gap will matter less when they are 32 and 25 and be irrelevant beyond 30 and 37. It does matter when one lives at home with parents and wears blue shorts, and the other is established in a career.
      That said, a few years of watching Thai BL suggests to me that the western distaste/discomfort regarding these age gaps isn't embraced by Thai culture the way we westerners understand it. Also, let's acknowledge that in comparison to many western European cultures, US culture gets hysterical at the mention of any teen sexuality. And different regions within the US have different mores on this subject. Recognizing when a young person can exercise agency over their own sexual decision-making absolutely varies by culture. I think that difference is evident in Thai BL. The age gaps make me uncomfortable, but I recognize my discomfort reflects my cultural biases. I would therefore evaluate these age differences on almost a case by case basis. Civivva cites Cutie Pie as the example, and rightly so. That script 1) infantalizes the younger characters, 2) places the older character in a position of trust/guardianship and the younger as a ward, 3) depicts the guardian using his power/influence to intimidate the younger into behaving in a desired way. No amount of cultural relativism will persuade me that was anything but twisted. Still, the rest of BL should not foreclose storytelling options because Cutie Pie hired screenwriters from 1840 and a mafia son abused the trust of an impressionable kid as part of a mafia family power struggle.

    • @j_scott
      @j_scott 2 года назад +2

      @@johnmaster3748 I'm only going to speak for myself here, but height/size differences don't matter much to me at all, nor do most age differences - as long as everyone is a consenting adult. I specifically agreed about Cutie Pie because of the way Nunew's character was presented, and for that matter, Nat's character, too. Neither had any real agency and both felt like they had to sneak around and lie to their partners. That's not the basis of a healthy relationship.
      There's room for all sorts of storytelling. I don't have to like all of it. That doesn't mean those stories shouldn't be told. With so many BLs out there, I can always choose to watch something else.
      Also, Tutor is one of my favorite BL characters of all time, so I'm always going to be here for Zee/Saint.
      Forgive me for hijacking the conversation.
