Always do the weedless hack no point in not doing it 💯. Sometimes I'll use a bigger head so the hook protrudes out the back. I mostly only do that in Lake Erie especially if I decide to troll a tube. Appreciate the video!!!
They also sell spiral attachments (just started fishing) that help make this easier. Great video for new ways to save a bit of money and still get a Texas rig
Awesome man! Thanks! Ive got several packs of tubes, I even bought the stupid tube heads but couldn't figure out how to rig it! Thanks! I'm excited to try this now! Subbed!
A longtime friend who used to catch a LOT of Bass on tubes tells me he doesn't use them anymore because the fish prefer newer styles of baits than tubes.... Since WHEN did Bass learn to read..? I still use Tubes and guess what... THEY STILL CATCH LOTS OF BASS... 🤔😎
Next thing to try… I’ve got all items needed.. maybe they’ll bite this one. Fingers crossed. Because I can almost guarantee no one throws this at my ponds. Thanks Gramps!!!
Oh holy jeebes I never knew that if you wet your steel and led you can shove the whole led piece in man! I thought whenever these broke it was done for! Awesome now I just need plugs because I did keep all the hooks!
What i usually do is shove the head in first from the bottom then I push it to the top while the hook is on the in side then put the hook through the tube
i've been fishing my whole life and never even tried a tube. I've seen them in my dad's old tackle box but never gave them attention. I should probably give them a try.
@@Max-oo8yo yeah. I said when I started this channel, I'd share everything I could think of from back in my tournament days decades ago. So if guys I compete against in kayak tournaments beat me with things I talk about, they still know where they got it from, lol
Thank you for making the video but I personally am very hard troubles with this because when you first go in and you make your second hole it always splits all the way through especially when a fish is on it's a good idea but I only have to do another one all over again maybe he teaches how to not make them split
I mean I fish freshwater (and landlocked) rivers and have found the trout to be finicky and cautious about biting much of anything, I got an old saltwater octopus pattern tube I'll have to tie up and throw in to see how they react if I go fishing before I pick up some tubes out of curiosity now. I think I've got some sea trout on it before down in Florida though, wonder if their freshwater cousins have the same appetite for cephalopods lol.
I got a two pack of these random tubes kinda like that. But it's pre-hooked and it's red and white, also designed to look like a fish kinda. Don't know nothing about it.
I actually fish it like a jig. I'll throw under docks, laydowns, pitch near logs. If they don't hit it on the fall, I'll give it a pop-pop which makes it dart one way or the other. Drop it in shallow water and pop it, you'll see what I mean.
You'd be surprised how well it worms. I use tubes from Secret Lures and they are soft and have a good hook up ratio. There have been plenty of times when a bass or crappie on grab the tails and never get the hook in their mouth.
Uh.. I just take the jughead and go straight up the tube to the top, pop the eyelit out and keep the hook exposed.. if you prefer it weedless then skin hook it..
@@FishINwithGRAMPS no I just use it differently, as fsr as the hook goes but as fsr as rigging it you don't have to stick the hook through just the eye of the hook
I mean as long as you're not swallowing the spit and do a quick water rinse afterwards you'll be fine, heavy metal particles have an odd affinity to being attracted to moving water and surface tension. You're probably at a higher risk of heavy metal toxicity from consuming large fish with mercury buildup than you are from handling lead weights over the years, assuming you do the bare minimum of a swish n spit or rinse your hands in cool water after handling.
Nice! I’ll need to remember that I don’t have to use my good weedless hooks to use Tubes. Thank you!!
These kinds of jigheads are a little pricey so you aren't really saving money
Fishing my whole life. Just got into tubes. Thanks for the tip man.
Finally someone else that rigs a tube like me. My friends were calling me crazy... time to share!!!!
Great idea, Thanks! Always love learning something new, cheap and effective!

I use those alot, big bass love them!
yeah, old school comes back around
I’ve been wondering how to set these up. Thanks for the video very helpful! 😄👍🏻
Do you have a demo with line tied on? Or do you retie every time?
I have a few videos catching some nice bass on it
That right there is a smallie slayer. Awesome!👍🤜🤛
Catches me some big largies too!
I was slaying some river smallies on this setup a couple weeks ago
Same here. Black with Glitter and salt was killing it. What river were you fishin?
My go to creek smallie bait, also soft plastic hellgramite
Thanks for the tip
Always just jammed that hook in there. Thanks for the tip
Always wondered how to rig these. Nice!
Thanks gramps
Gramps knew how to catch the fish and not buy things that caught the fisherman. Tubes are great to use.
Nice work Hickman
Not sure how much lead I would be licking. WD-40 works great and leaves some old fashion scent.
good ol spit, the original lube
Got to make sure it taste good so fish don't spit it out as soon as they grab it.
Try drinkin coconut water, she’ll swallow for sureski
I used to use WD40 all the time back in the day 😊 Works. It's mostly made of fish oil.
Wow learn something new everyday thanks
Looking good 👍
I haven't seen those in forever. Good to finally know how you use one.
Tubes are great and there is a reason all the old timers used them. I guess they faded out because they don't seem as cool anymore.
Smallmouth love them
Don't know about the lead and hook in the mouth. Leave that to the bass lol
Not really worried about it, I'm not ingesting it.
Just joking lol I have done it for years. I have bit my fair share of split shots too.

GENIUS!!! I have these stupid things and have caught fish on them but I mutilate the darn thing trying to rig it on a hook
I'm just sharing what I learned from Indiana Bassmaster Classic Angler Terry McWilliams years ago.
Thanks Gramps
I needed that
Great video! The only thing I'm going to differently is not stick the lump of poisonous metal in my mouth 😂
poison huh? Must be my GenX blood...
Nice Gramps
that's like 8 inches
Gonna be honest. I usually don't like shorts. But this one I do. Take this like gramps.
I just put the head of the jif head up threw the tube and pushed the eye threw the body. .works good for me ..lot simpler
that's a traditional tube, not a stupid tube. Two completely different techniques.

Mantap kali Boss🐟🐟
Last year Gramps! Bwahahaha
If you cut the back wall of the tube it really helps the hook up ratio too, less plastic to go through
good tip!
Thanks
Nice
i just slide it thru and pop the eye loop out works perfect

You're messing with people 🤣

You got to set the hook a little harder but it works
Yeah, that's why I try to find and use the 5/0 hooks, but it definitely gets bit!

I like this. I wonder if anyones ever tried this in saltwater for finicky trout

awesome, can you share how you fish it too?

Wow! Great idea tho.
Anyone think bugs like bandito bugs are actually more effective then tubes for largemouth? Tubes are so much easier to use and last much longer.
That's like comparing Dingers to Senkos
I got a two pack of these random tubes kinda like that. But it's pre-hooked and it's red and white, also designed to look like a fish kinda.

Indeed. However I don't think theses tubes are used for largemouth bass, I got them in a mystery tackle box.

That plastic bunch up and prevent decent hook sets?
sometimes, but I throw this in the worst of places

Interesting! How hard is it to move all that plastic though on the hook set??
You'd be surprised how well it worms. I use tubes from Secret Lures and they are soft and have a good hook up ratio. There have been plenty of times when a bass or crappie on grab the tails and never get the hook in their mouth.
You can Texas rig basically anything 😂
Yup, and that has a completely different action in the water
What tube do you normally use? Big body or water or small creeks.
Tube is made by Snack Daddy Lures, I buy them in a bag of 100. If fish them on any and every body of water.
Get pink tubes they work the best for spawn
I don’t used tubes or anything like that but with this technique wouldn’t you have to retie every time you use this rig?
you should retie often
I'm still a beginner so sorry for the stupid question. But how is this gonna hook into the fish if the hook isn't exposed?
when the fish clamps down on it, the point of the hook is exposed, then when you set the hook it gets em
That's tough I've never seen this in my life
been around some 20 years. Terry McWilliams in Indiana was the first pro I've seen teaching it.
@@FishINwithGRAMPS I'ma have to try it out one day thanks for sharing 👍
Uh.. I just take the jughead and go straight up the tube to the top, pop the eyelit out and keep the hook exposed.. if you prefer it weedless then skin hook it..
Always used them like normal jigs lol
I kill the bass in my pond with these also.
Almost looks like a Texas rig
many people actually Texas Rig tubes, but this gives a complete different action in the water
So you have to retie every time you replace the tube?
You should retie often regardless
How do you save this?
Now say if one were to have exceptionally large thumbnails? 🧐
Fair question. Then go with probably a half inch.
Well I can finally pull mine out and start using them...sike too much work haha
Never too much work to catch a big one
Stupid tube or as I like to call it Master smallmouth bass jig
