I'm 56 years old and just beginning my fishing adventure in St Louis. Thank you for the great info! I feel like much less of an idiot about fishing now! I've never fished before and I'm really excited about getting started. There's a TON of bass and catfish out here and I want to start taking some home. Thanks again!
So glad you found the channel! I think I will have plenty of videos from the past few years, and coming out now, that will help you learn and grow as an angler!
Dude, yes! Thank you for not making us endure 10 minutes of self-talk and meandering. If only every RUclipsr would follow your lead and get to the dang point, we would all catch more fish. Keep it coming!
Tyler I came here with 0, absolutely zero, experience with bass fishing. After stumbling across some of your other videos, where you catch fish, it looked like an awesome time. I've watched this video, your beginner set up video, and the one you made after this on how to fish each lure at least a half dozen times, each. And the depth you go to in your attempt to teach the skills of your trade are truly selfless and above and beyond anyone else's I have seen. They have given me a ton of confidence to try out a new skill. Thank you, and God bless.
Been fishing since I was 5. I’m 40 now and have always left a little bit of the eye of the hook exposed on my texas rigs. Nice tip will definitely make that adjustment.
I'm still grateful for you telling me to run the weightless fluke style bait texas rigged last summer. I caught fish when others around me were struggling. This is awesome! Thanks!
Tyler does a fantastic and very thorough job of instruction!! I have been an avid fisherman for many years and learned a lot from his video presentation. His presentation, style and personality make for a great and most informative learning experience. Keep up the fantastic job you are doing. From a 63 year old dude.
This video is still going strong after a year. Your videos are so awesome in their instruction and video quality. Thanks so much for working so hard to teach us!
I retired last November and starting getting back into fishing. From this video, I learned that I'm not using a large enough hook for some of my rigs. Much appreciated. I really enjoy your videos. This one is very helpful.
the main thing I do is try to figure out the color of the water it's self on a warm day I'll start out by fishing the clearest water I can find but on a cold day sutch as a cold front I fish muddy water
Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.
42 years old and total noob here so I really appreciate the video. I know I'm adding weight to the Texas rig but are you adding weights to any of the other setups?
Can’t thank you enough. I literally got my first bass combo yesterday and can’t wait to start throwing some soft plastics and catching some fish. I’ll no doubt be spending many hours working through your videos.
Thanks Tyler I’m getting back into fishing at 58 years old in SoCal. Your videos have been valuable and entertaining. Thank you for all your time effort it does not go unnoticed.
I've been fishing for over 40 years. I have always shyed away from plastics, other than the small jig-style. This video has given me the confidence to dive into this style more and more. Thank you!
Recently retired from the Military and fished King Salmon in Alaska as a kid; but good lord after a week of videos on YT, I FINALLY find a thoroughly explanatory video that moves from one point to the next and gives all the answers I’ve been looking for… Damn great job my man!!
Thanks Tyler! Newer to bass fishing and haven’t ever (in at least a couple years) seen a better, more comprehensive video covering rigging on all the basic soft plastics. Very helpful, and to the point. Keep em coming!! 👍
Thank you so much for all the great info. I am just getting into using soft plastics instead of live bait. I have been trying to figure out the best rig styles for each plastics. I have felt kind of stumped with different baits due to shape size etc. This is exactly what I needed! I will be trying these out🤗
i've come back to this video at least a half dozen times, and i can finally say i have my texas rig right! i'm using something called a 4/0 "superlock" for my 4" caffeine shad and it looks pretty dang good, they were out of regular old 3/0 wide gap. also messed up on my first try on a weedless ned rig jig head, but got it dang near perfect on the second try. I've learned so much from this channel over the past few weeks that today my dad actually said "maybe it'll be your turn to guide me this weekend." I'm so glad i found TRF!!
Omg!!! (Not in a stupid way) Thank you Tyler!!!! A few rigs I set up correctly. Yet you cleared up at least 3 set ups to help me out. Thanks again!!!! Instant subscribe!!!
I love reading the comments for this video. I am 57 and starting to get back into fishing. I was never taught much about fishing from my Dad. Maybe he wasn't really a fan. But I tried to get my sons into it because...well, I thought that is what Dads do. LOL!!! My oldest son is now 25 and has a best friend whose Dad took the two of them fishing when they were younger. That Dad showed my son how to fish. So, I am asking my son about how to fish. LOL!!! Thanks for RUclips and videos like yours. That said, I am still waiting for my first smallmouth bass at the lake where our camp is.
Finally a RUclips fisherman that doesn't act like a spastic Billy Mays making exaggerated hand gestures with every word and thanks for not opening with "Whats up RUclips" I am only 5 seconds in and you earned a sub. Keep up the good work.
Tyler, I am 78 years old and have been fishing all my life, yet you have just taught me several things I did not know. Thanks from Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
This is super helpful as exactly how to get the hook in a Texas rig so the bait lies flat is something I struggled with till seeing this. Thanks Tyler, super helpful!
Thanks for being so detailed and putting effort into showing how to hook these baits. I am just now getting into fishing because my 4-year-old son enjoyed watching someone fish so much that I decided to get into it for him.
I haven't fished since I was a preteen and recently wanted to get back into it again. Your videos, especially this one, has been a great guide to help me in knowing what to do.
Thank you young man. I'm just starting out to use plastics the right way. I was only taught one way how to hook plastics. After watching your video, I realized that the way I was taught was the ned rig. However, I was taught on a Texas rig hook. Very helpful video.
Thank you so much. As a new guy to the fishing world, this was always something I had a really hard time understanding and I don't have anyone to teach me. I am so happy to have found your videos. Keep them up!

Hey Tyler. I watched this video and how to fish them video Friday night. Saturday I went out and caught my first bass using a Texas Rig. Thanks for the tips and for helping me be more confident on the water. Congrats on getting married. I met my wife when I was 19 and have been married for over 33 years. I see you have fishing videos in Minnesota. If you ever want to go Ice fishing let me know. That is what got me through COVID, and now into Kayak fishing.
Your videos are life saving! My father wasn’t in my life so I’m teaching myself how to fish, so when my own son wants to go fishing, we can go fishing. Thank you
Watching you longer videos like this reminds me of watching fishing shows on Saturday and Sunday mornings when I was younger. Your probably one of the best fishing content creators on RUclips.
For a beginner in the world of soft plastics your video was just what I needed. You covered a lot of ground so don't worry about talking too much. I might have had to watch 8 other videos to get what you put out there. Thanks so much my friend!
A lot of ppl in here of all ages - I'm 32 and my dad kinda did me dirty and only taught me how to handle his power bait rods and clean the fish. Fishing is a lot more fun than I thought it could be thanks to channels like this.
Not about how u rig it about how pateint u are u could wacky worm it u could throw a dam bulet sinker on it rick it texas style if ur not paitent ur not gona catch fish pateince my friend
"You dont need a giant circle hook" *laughs in channel catfish. I know you're talking bass fishing but when you said use a circle hook for whacky rigs the half dozen giant circle hooks I keep for catfishing in my bag popped into my head for some reason.
I really appreciate your instructional videos. I learn a ton from you. As a highschool science teacher, myself, you've have good teaching skills; very listenable and informative about what not to do and what what's good to do and how to do it. Keep that going; it distinguishes you.
This is excellent. Great presentation style, clear camera work, and no-nonsense information without a lot of hype and self-promotion. Liked and subscribed.
This was an excellent and highly informative video explaining how to rig baits. Sounds basic but for those of us new to bass AND ultralight fishing, as you said someone has to teach me. Someone taught everyone. So, many, many thanks and please do more shows like this. Nothing is too fundamental when learning to fish.
I've been fishing my entire life, but your video was very helpful, and now I can impress my dad with my rigging skills lol. You earned your self a sub. Cant wait to watch some more!
Great video, i'm in the UK but still use a lot of the soft plastics that you have shown, every day's a school day, i'm 59 fishing since i was 7 and learnt a lot from your tutorial, great job
This video was great. Thank you for being super clear and showing all of this. I’m the only one in my family that really likes fishing so this was great at teaching me all of these basics. The review at the end was very helpful too.
Time I will actually get back. 64, just moved to Austin from Washington State and learned more in 20 mins than I ever thought possible. Good work young man and well done. God Bless all your days.
I'd been fishing with my grandpa from the time I was 4 years old, but he only ever taught me to slap a night crawler on a hook (with or without bobber) and roll in fish. He passed a few years ago and I finally decided to get back into fishing and I am SO happy I did (and thankful for the internet!). I inherited his tackle box and finally got around to going through it and sorting it out but my problem is I don't know what half the lures are for or how to use them! This is definitely helpful on the plastics part! Thank you!!! If you have another video on identifying jigs/crankbaits you could point me to, I'd appreciate it :)
Honestly exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks for all the knowledge, you did Awesome. Not sure how you could of got us all the great info in shorter time. I was that new guy looking for all the fundamentals, so thanks.
Thanks for the lessons, Tyler. I am spending Christmas with my Florida family and I am going to do some fishing. I have never used worms for bass and the Texas rig is foreign to me. Your tutorial is the best I have seen on RUclips. I will hit the nearest Walmart or Bass Pro Shop to stock up when I get there.
This is truly amazing! I’ve just gotten comfortable using a baitcaster after using it for months just catfishing with it. Fishing from the bank I’ve been dreaming a lot recently about punching and flipping baits into thick cover and the juicy stuff but work is out so no kayak purchases soon. Starting college this fall so that’s another thing but I’m going to try and save up. Thank you for the words of encouragement!!
This video was extremely helpful! I've been fishing for years but never learned how to rig for bass. Thankful to have ran across this video thanks man so much!
I am 54 years old and have fished my whole life ,,,, just for fun ,, not anywhere close to anything professional,,, I learned a lot from your video. Thank you
So I went fishing this morning using your techniques on rigging a rubber worm to a texas rig. Had to really dig through my gear to find a hook big enough, which as you could tell was my first obvious problem. After 20 minutes of practicing it I rigged a couple of different colors. A few casts in I feel the bite. I didn't even have to give him much business because of how the worm popped down for the hook to expose. Now I have been fishing for 15 years as a weekend angler, and I have always struggled with a Texas rig. This video completely changed my confidence in this set up. Awesome video, and you definitely have a subscriber in me. Now if only I can get used to using a jig in muddy ponds with way more vegetation than normal... Might just buy a frog and see if that gives me success instead.
So glad to have you around my friend! I think my videos will help you out a ton, and if you ever have a video idea, make sure you leave it in the comments section!
I’m 64 years old and even though I know how to rig plastic baits I recommend your video to beginners. Great job!
Thanks for watching Steve!

Okay the transition with the plastics falling through the intro was the smoothest thing I've ever seen...
😤🙌🏼
Yep. As someone who edits an occasional video, I can appreciate the time it took to create that less-than-a-second effect.
Can you talk about the best times to throw certain plastics, weather that’s time of day or time of year.
For sure!
Do you use a weight while fishing a senko?
Hunter Adams i like to use a bullet weight when I texas rig and weightless when wacky rigging, im not Tyler but I hope I helped.
Hey bud! This is awesome, thank you!!

Time I will actually get back. 64, just moved to Austin from Washington State and learned more in 20 mins than I ever thought possible. Good work young man and well done. God Bless all your days.
Thank you so much! Glad you’re enjoying the channel!
Great job and coverage of plastics and hooking
Thank you so much Matt! If you like this video, you will love a lot of my newer ones! Welcome to the channel👍🏼
this kid really put a lot of thought into bass fishing. It's like all the time you ever put into all your hobbies combined.
This is my full time job, so I hope you love the videos! I put a lot of time into them!
Awesome! So glad you have joined the channel🙌🏼 I have videos like this coming out all the time
I’m usually a trout fisherman, but have been craving too catch some bass. Your videos are really amazing and have taught me a lot man!

Young man thank you for making this video very informative.
After a long hiatus from fishing, I have really enjoyed your lessons on here. Buying a boat soon and fishing north Texas.
All right dude, I really watched your entire video which is something I rarely do :-). Thanks for teaching me a lot.
Awesome! I think you’ll like it around here👍🏼
Great tutorial,I've fished my whole life and still learn a lot from basic info like this
Heck yeah! I love to hear that
Thank you for providing me the most informative video I've watched in a long time!
Brand new fisherman here. This was perfect. Thank you!
Of course! Keep goin for it!
God is good!!!!
This video was extremely helpful! I've been fishing for years but never learned how to rig for bass. Thankful to have ran across this video thanks man so much!
Awesome rob! So glad you found the channel!
I am 54 years old and have fished my whole life ,,,, just for fun ,, not anywhere close to anything professional,,, I learned a lot from your video. Thank you
Glad you learned something!
New to bass fishing and have really appreciate your videos for both me and my son
Awesome! So glad y’all are learning!
