In case any complete newbie is wondering, the deep diving crankbaits he's using aren't going deep because he's keeping the line short and up (fixed) just for demonstration. Also, if you are just starting out, it's more important to learn strategy and reasoning (what type of lures to use, where and when to use them) than just buying fancy and pretty looking lures which are expensive. Fish will literally bite lumps of plastic, so don't worry about how real something looks to you. Save your money and if anything, build a wider arsenal of types of lures.

If you want to use lures, heavy soft swimbaits or lipless crankbaits are usually productive and cast a long way.
@@2061526 Have you seen our "How Crankbaits Work" video? I talk about floating, suspending, and sinking crankbaits in that one. ruclips.net/video/Q0wjo_P3ZqM/видео.html
Im always wondering how to cast light lures. Im often going to big UK lakes or resevoirs and mostly bait fish baiting but I do like to do lures occasionally. My only thought is to have 1/2oz lead and long trace with the lure at the end.
Lighter line and a light rod is the key. Trying to cast a light lure with a heavy rod or heavy line is very difficult. With my 6ft ultralight rods and 4lb line, I can easily cast a 1/16oz spinner a LONG way.
@@FishingwithNat yes. I see them using light rods - spinning or fly and more wrist action and casting sideways sometimes. I often hear cast as far as you can to get to the deep and it might be 50 to 500 yards to middle deepest part. Often we dont have little boats usa style to get the middle of the lake and wind just ruins everything. Im still learning, even with huge lakes Ive witnessed 10 to 40y casting with lures and big fish caught and they havnt cast that far out.
@@swl6218 The fish aren't always deep. You might be better off fishing on cloudy days or near sunrise/sunset when the fish are in shallower. That would be an alternative to having to cast really far. Or you could try wading into the water to get out further?
Live worms, small swimbaits on jigs, and maribou/hair jigs are all great for all of those. You can also check out my short Life of the Bluegill and Life of the Yellow Perch videos for lots of info on each of those species and how to catch them. Great video Nat! One of my favorite lures is the original Big 'O'. It's a short lipped diving lure that has a particular wiggle that drives fish crazy in fresh or saltwater.. I've never found another one like it.
I catch a lot of bluegills on rooster tail spinners, but majority of Bass I’ve caught have come on spoons. Idunno why but using a spoon (speckled red & gold works best for me) like a jerk bait will land me a nice bass when nothing else seems to work. I’ve never had much luck utilizing swim baits or jigs, with the exception of curly tail grubs on a small jig head.
This is a good video. tutorial on how, and the use of amazing bait, thanks for sharing your experience, and the Slow-motion is cool too. good luck my fred

Please make an hour long video of just footage of lures swiming through the water. This is like ASMR to me lol.
Also, what would you recommend for surfcasting or rockfishing? It’s basically all I do being close to the sea and far from freshwater bodies.
I'm glad you like it - my How Lures Work Underwater playlist is full of this sort of footage. ruclips.net/p/PLcXAWxBLRzoJOC73i8r56wb8cKhgSJO8f&si=L65in-ReigwierOm
I haven't done a lot of ocean fishing but natural baits like cut fish or shrimp are usually great. If you want to use lures, heavy soft swimbaits or lipless crankbaits are usually productive and cast a long way.
Thank for making such a good video it was very helpful for me it cleared up a lot of confusion I was having
Great - glad to hear that!
Excellent!!! Thank you for this fantastic lesson!!!

@@FishingwithNat hi sir, i hope you can give us a video about the difference between :sinking", "suspending" and "sinking lures underwater., thank you
@@2061526 Have you seen our "How Crankbaits Work" video? I talk about floating, suspending, and sinking crankbaits in that one. ruclips.net/video/Q0wjo_P3ZqM/видео.html
@@FishingwithNat thank you so much.
@@2061526 No problem. Thanks for the feedback and the suggestion.
OMG THANK YOU! I've never known how to properly use a jig!
Happy to help!
Great video, even shows underwater in action

As a person new to using lures this video was very helpful. I'm still wondering what lures are best for Perch, Crappies & other panfish?
Live worms, small swimbaits on jigs, and maribou/hair jigs are all great for all of those. You can also check out my short Life of the Bluegill and Life of the Yellow Perch videos for lots of info on each of those species and how to catch them. Bluegill: ruclips.net/video/iTCFdkTL0VE/видео.html

Great video Nat!
One of my favorite lures is the original Big 'O'.
It's a short lipped diving lure that has a particular wiggle that drives fish crazy in fresh or saltwater..
I've never found another one like it.
Thanks! I had one of those Cordell Big O cranks once but lost it. I agree - it's a great lure.
Cool. I haven't used spoons for bass much, but they work great for pike, musky, and salmon for me.
This is a good video. tutorial on how, and the use of amazing bait, thanks for sharing your experience, and the Slow-motion is cool too.
good luck my fred
Thank you for the comment. Good luck fishing!
