Have used this method several times on others. Worst was a DR I was fishing with who was insisting I take him in so he could go to the ER. Finally convinced him to let me try it. After a quick and what he said painless removal he told me he had never seen it done and had removed a lot of hooks while he worked in ERs ... Always cut them out. I only smiled and told him he could charge more for using a scalpel than using a piece of braid. He did not disagree.

My best one was fly fishing a small creek on the the north slope of the San Gabriels for trout, using a #14 mosquito. They had just stocked and all the bait fisherman were being skunked bad and I was catching fish from right where they had just cast and catching trout after trout after trout. Finally, one of them came up to me and wanted to know why I was doing so well and how hard was it to do, etc. So of course I'm feeling my oats and all puffed up holier than thou and saying how unbelievably easy fly fishing is. Well, it was windy as heck late in the afternoon in the canyon and full of hubris, on my false cast forward I drove that hook right into my cheek. Absolutely buried it, LoL. Luckily I had the barb mashed down so it came out pretty easy. Going in was an 8 or nine, taking it out maybe a one. The embarrassment factor though...Off the damn charts...Hubris...No matter how good you think you are, humble yourself.
