    Glad to see you were able to get that out much easier than I did. When I was removing the hook from a large mouth bass he flipped and caught the treble hook in my finger. Which of course hurt like heck every time he flipped some more for me while trying to get the hook out. Lucky for me, I had other people around to help get the fish off and back in the water. But unluckily my hook was in far enough that we had to cut the hook and then numb my finger with ice and push the rest of the way through, OUCH!

    Hey Jon! Not sure if you will see this or not, but when dealing with Pikes, grab their eyes with your thumb and pointer finger, it stuns them and they open their mouth and gills, obviously don't death grip it, but you'll know when you have enough pressure. Once that is done, carefully remove the hook/lure, and go on with your day!

    Hey Jon, first, get yourself a set of long handle needle nose pliers and keep them in your bag (your going to want them for musky. ) For musky bucktails are good, BUT for deeper water get a couple of Bucher tail jointed baits, Pick a color that matches local bait fish, sucker, or walleye, Rainbow trout. Steel leader ( not the cheap ones) 60 to 80 pound test. Match it with the same strength braid line. You should be golden. Don't forget the figure 8 at the boat at the end of your retrieve. Just be Careful! Musky fishing is terribly addictive : ) good luck!

    • @billfromelma
      @billfromelma 8 лет назад

      Oh, good job with the hook. Don't do that with a musky bait, that's why you want the pliers.

    Slide your hand up under the gill on a pike, that's the best way to hold them. It usually forces their mouth open as well so you have easy access to the hooks. But without pliers, it's always going to be a bit sketchy.

    • @Terzy
      @Terzy 8 лет назад +13

      Southerners because there is good fishing all year round

      @josh.nalepa6596 8 лет назад +1

      notherns are more adapt to fishing all year round. we fish for bass/pannfish/walleye during spring-fall, fall-spring is trout season(steelhead in northern ohio) and if there's ice we ice fish. more variety :)

      We fish year round here the South also. Ever heard of Walleye, Sauger and Crappie, November thru April we fish for them. Plus we start our bass tournaments in February down here. But we still use our boats.

    I hate when this happens. I’ve only gotten hooked a few times, but last year I got a razor sharp carp hook to go all the way into the bone in the tip of my finger. The 20 pound grass carp thrashed and the point went straight in. It was so deep My hand quite literally had a seizure. It wouldn’t come out. It had to be surgically removed.

    You touched the pike's tail to the water. Big no NO.
    Don't let pike touch anything with its lower half once they're out of the water.
    Don't believe me? Unhook your next pike and bump him. Enjoy mate.

    Hey Jon B. I fish all the time and I always take needle nose pliers with me just in case I hook in to a pike I never let my fingers get close to there teeth or my hooks just a thought. They also make a special tool that's very cheap to paralyze pike just like the way you do bass I always carry them with me worth looking into. Keep up the good work love your videos.

    Keep a feather or a small stir straw in your medbox. If you ever get a barbed hook in you, just put the straw or the butt of the feather into the wound hole on the side of the barb and slide it over the barbed tip, then pulling out the hook without worry of the barb tearing up the surrounding tissue.
    So essentially, any narrow but sturdy hollow straw or needle will do. Probably best to use something sterile, but fat chance keeping anything sterile while fishing lol. Perhaps simply sterilizing the affected area as soon as able will suffice.

    Wow you handled that like a Man... On the lakes/ponds in my area it seems like nine out of ten times i can't get them to bite a jerkbait in warmer water than 50 degrees or so. Once the waters below 50 deg i've done really well on them. You'd think when the waters like 60-70 they'd be all over them on windy days but just doesn't usually happen for me
