Saved my day! The most painful part of this was in thinking how much its going to hurt when i pull it out. Actually, I followed the your video held the hook a down, tied fishing line around the stuck barb and something solid in the boat. Grabbed my finger and yanked it. It was over in a second painlessly. Thank you for taking to time to post and share this!
I pulled a treble hook out of the back of a woman’s thigh today. Did not see your video in time and I don’t know that it would’ve helped as it was a treble hook. I ended up taking locking pliers and getting at it. She was a trooper. It was deep, real deep. I used the same idea of the angle that you had. Great minds think alike. Great video, my man!
I was working as deck hand on a charter boat out of Winchester Bay when I was 17. One of the flat landers caught a nice fish. I had the hooks in hand re-baiting it. The boat rocked a bit and the lead bounced. The flat lander jerked the rod yelling I got another one - I got another one. The hook was imbedded in fleshy part of my palm beneath my right thumb. We had to force the hook on through, cut the barb, and back the hook out. That was on the first of 3 four hour trips. Made for a long day.
Perfect explanation on the technique of pulling it out as to put pressure away from the barb. Sinking a hook into a finger is my biggest concern when out fishing.
Yes, been there before. I was releasing a summer steelhead on a double hook rig w/corkie. Fish was hooked on the upper hook. As I was trying to free the hook, the fish did what fish do. Bottom hook went (luckily) all the way thru my index finger. Was able to crimp the barb, and push it back out. Nicely executed with the mono and cleat!
Tie a loooong Snell knot onto the hook and cut the tag off real short, slide the snell not towards the eye but push it under the skin to the barb. Hook comes out with way less damage and pain. Also the way you yanked it out ballistically you got lucky you did not hook you hand as it came out of your finger.
Teammate in boat today had a 3/4 oz jig in his index finger. I thought something like this would work because line would act like a lineman blocking for the running back - couldn’t thinking snell fast enough, so we iced his finger numb pushed barb through and flattened it. Would have been better to have only one hole.
Hooked myself straight through the ear while learning how to fly cast 1/8 ounce marabo jigs up in ketchikan AK. Cut the barb, pull out the shank and keep fishing
That hurts. I got one under my fingernail one time when I was a kid. I'll tell you, if you keep a pair of needle nose pliers in your tackle box, grab the hook where it bends, push down twist back towards the shank and jerk all at the same time it will do the same thing. But that fishing line thing is pretty cool. Also it really helps if somebody else does it for you and doesn't tell you when they're about to do it. A couple of nips of whiskey don't hurt either. 😁
Dude, thank you. This video gave me the confidence to do it. I had to ask a stranger to tie it to the pier and it worked like a charm. First cast of a new lure, caught a speckled trout then myself.
I hooked my self with a big salmon bomber. I hooked myself with the front two hooks while there was a squirming 21 inch pike on the 3rd hook Ripped all sorts of skin but I was fine and the pike lived
Cameron, I'm nursing a whiskey sour as I watch this video, and, even in my impaired state, I feel your pain. Thanks for taking one for the team! You the man!
Wish I watched this video before having to push two hooks through my middle finger. One was deeply in and the other was just passed the barb. Needless to say, I pushed them through to get them out. Finger hurts, but the hooks are out.
Who was it that got the hook in near their nose about five years ago when you guys were video taping a trip? That was the episode that introduced me to your channel. 😁
I just used this method to remove a kokanee hook from the tip of my finger just now. Your unfortunate accident is benefiting others haha. Thanks for the video!
Had a kid with a hook deep and coming through the skin. Wouldn’t let me pop off the barb. It was his favorite lure. Put his finger to sleep and used a scalpel to get it out intact. A Real fisherman.
I started fishing at 7 yrs. I have yet stuck a hook in my hand or any body part.. If it was a knife a different story.. great tip and know I know what to do if I get hooked. Thanks for the tip guys.
Thanks a lot lol. Really saved me a lot of pain. I had a nasty treble hook stuck in that hurt like crazy, but your trick really got it out fast and painlessly.
7 year old son caught a nice white bass. He went to grab it & it flopped & sunk 2 barbs of a treble hook into his middle finger & thumb on the same hand. Needless to say that was a trip to the ER. On top of all that the fish we left in the live well were stolen by a greedy raccoon while we were at the ER. We were told of this method and had to google it! Thanks for the tutorial! Hopefully it never happens again but considering he is addicted to fishing too, this might come in handy!
46 years old and still haven't managed to bury a hook past the barb, even the seemingly endless number of Owner that thirst for my blood. (Just a flesh wound) Guess it's a good argument for having some basic first-aid stuff onboard. Antiseptic especially. Be on that lake for a few days in July...Dad booked a camp site. Seems strange to camp so close to home, but at least it's convenient. And? Kokanee and eggs for breakfast, my FAVORITE!!
Hooked myself in the knee cap with a bass worm hook it took a bit to get it out love your guys videos I've learned a lot keep em coming would like to meet you guys some day
Twice I have had a hook in my hand with a wild coho on the other end of a double hook rig. Nothing like a big wild coho thrashing around with the second hook buried past the barb. Luckily they were barbless and now I use a release tool instead of pliers.
That sucks when that happens. I got hooked in the cheek when I was little,my friend was casting and on his back cast hooked my cheek forward cast yanked it right out my cheek blood was all over
Thanks. Just hooked my finger with a 4x treble. Unfortunately the Barb was deep into muscle/tendon. Jerked on it hard and it only dug in. To the ER - tetanus shot. 7 shots of lidocaine and some handy work by the doc got it.
I came across the sentence "to hook one's finger" and I wanted to see if it was some kind of phrase you should know. Well, it's not but now I know how to remove a hook from my finger. Nice :-D
I had a silver in the net out in front of long beach a d the same thing happened. I used pliers and it was bad it got infected a puffed up for 2 weeks. You did a way better job.
Cut the trebble hook then pushed it through since it was barbed and the tip was poking out. It's like an arrow head sometimes it's best to just keep going through
Any tips for Merwin? I was up there this morning in an Alumaweld Stryker and only caught one little Kokanee for 4 hours of trolling. I was using dodgers, hoochies/smile blades, and white shoepeg corn.
Thanks Cameron, I remember watching this earlier but when I needed the knowledge I couldn't remember it. I tried getting it out with pliers but that was not happening - oh well.
I am the man, the myth, the legend.....annnnnd I hooked my self lmao 🤣. Really good advise though. I got hooked in the shoulder. I was trying to net my buddies fish and it spit the hook. This technique works. I have used it. I had both my hands though lol
I had a 4/0 swimbait hook buried so deep that It would not come out. ER visit was definitely needed. They had a cork board in the ER with at least a hundred hooks and lures hanging on it. I didn't feel so dumb after seeing that!
I have only hooked myself badly one time....Got a barbed hook in my hand fishing at baker lake trying to release a dolly....had to push the hook threw the skin and cut the barn off...!!! I’m much more cautious when handling fish now... I got the hook in the web skin area between my pointer finger and thumb.
One of my buddies hooked himself in the nose when we were fishing one day,he was fly fishing. Took him about an hour to get it out seriously. Good friend of mine but man it was humorous.
I hooked myself good with a coho killer in my middle finger. I forced the end of the hook through the skin so the barb was exposed, cut off the eye and pulled it the rest of the way through. Hurt like a sumbitch, but still managed 1 king and 2 silvers
I started to teach my 4 year old how to cast and it might be a Bit early since he only seems to fully listen before he starts doing something maybe 1/8 times. "PAUSE!" at least works 1/3 times or so. But I decided to look up some good hook removal methods ahead of time Just in case. I remember hooking my dad when I was little. Pretty sure I let go of the button a little as I angle the pol back, then without thinking (because I was too young to be considered intelligent) pushed the button back in and then went to cast as normal. Since I did that to my dad, karma might have it out for me, so I wanted to be prepared.
I have done it a couple times myself Cameron and I was still cringing watching you pull the hook out of your finger. I know how it feels, and yes, I was by myself too when it happened- well, I did have Cooper, but without an opposing thumb the dog was of little help.
I just did it tonight. Brand new Rapala Rip-Stop. I was tying a line and talking to someone and someone else was walking by and kicked the pole. Right through the side of my right hand. Ring finger. Went all the way through to the nail. Was worse than the time a 3/0 treble that a 24” northern bounced off of hooked the meat of my thumb/palm to my big finger. I went to the er for that one. But all they usually do is numb it before they pull it out. Unless you think it’s in a tendon, man/and or woman/they/their/them/clownselves up.. Take a few shots, and bite that pencil. I broke 3 fingers once. They went back to my forearm. That part wasn’t too bad, because it mostly went numb. The bad part was when the doctor had to put them in a cast and re-break them. Put cotton balls in between the fingers and tape the tops together and bend the tips of my fingers down. I wish I would’ve saved that pencil. Pretty sure I almost bit all the way through it.
Same thing happened to me today, nasty multi jig hook, 2 Barbes and a treble, local boat that had a nurse help me, true hurt less coming out then in. Nasty.
I was fighting a salmon this year from the bank and it went for a run, then took a big jump and in the air he spit all my stuff and when he did it all came flying back at me (along with my 2oz weight) going mock 9 and the weight drilled me right in the ear when I turned to dodge it. Clean spilt the bottom of my ear In half. And dazed me bad to. Worst accident I’ve had while fishing. Just super thankful it wasn’t my eye or teeth.

Dude is chill. Good explainer. Well done.

Great job, Cameron! I appreciate you sharing this video even though it hurts your pride. 🤕

THANK YOU. Had a fully embedded hook in my dog's leg and can't afford another ER visit. Worked like a charm 😭👍
Your apprehension was priceless:) Great useful video as always.
Yours is the first video I found when I had to pull a hook just now same finger, same location.
Thx 😂
Hooked myself straight through the ear while learning how to fly cast 1/8 ounce marabo jigs up in ketchikan AK. Cut the barb, pull out the shank and keep fishing
you guys are really going all out for those subscribers these days. Cameron drew the short staw? Lol Great video!
That hurts. I got one under my fingernail one time when I was a kid. Just got back from the E. room and a two hour, three Dr. hook removal session. Wish I have seen your video first. Nice job.
Dude, thank you. This video gave me the confidence to do it. I had to ask a stranger to tie it to the pier and it worked like a charm. First cast of a new lure, caught a speckled trout then myself.
Glad it helped
Thanks, worked perfectly on hubby who has been fishing 70 years, first hook in finger today. He even had the 40lb line!
Huge thank you, just saved me a trip to the er, worked perfectly
Wish I watched this video before having to push two hooks through my middle finger. One was deeply in and the other was just passed the barb. Needless to say, I pushed them through to get them out. Finger hurts, but the hooks are out.
I pushed mine all the way through as well, it SUCKED!

Haha ya that was Lonny.
That one hurt to watch 😅
I just used this method to remove a kokanee hook from the tip of my finger just now. Your unfortunate accident is benefiting others haha. Thanks for the video!
Thank you I just used your technique after getting a small hook inserted in the index finger and lo and behold thank God it worked!!!
I feel like we just talked about this last year. You jinxed it!!!!
Tj Hester 🤣🤣
The only good thing about barbless hooks they come out of your hand easier
No,that's the only good thing
Video was helpful today getting a hook out of a buddies finger and he had it BURIED and this worked like a charm
Stood here and watched your video while my girlfriend stood next to me with a barbed hook in her thumb! Worked like a dream! Thanks!
You da man. Those hurt!!! Good technique getting it out. Great to know.
Thanks 👍
Had a kid with a hook deep and coming through the skin. Wouldn’t let me pop off the barb. It was his favorite lure. Put his finger to sleep and used a scalpel to get it out intact. A Real fisherman.
Great video...you handled it like a champ.
Nice job! Thanks for showing!
Hooked myself with a brads wiggler this fall. I feel ya Cam.
I started fishing at 7 yrs. I have yet stuck a hook in my hand or any body part.. If it was a knife a different story.. great tip and know I know what to do if I get hooked. Thanks for the tip guys.
Thanks for the tip saved a trip to the hospital.

SledOrFish No bueno! That sounds like it hurts!
Dang dude!!!! Thank you for the demo and I learned something!

The first time I watched this video, I thought “ouch”! Today, I watched this video again to help get a 4/0 hook out of my hand. Thanks so much!
Wow..not sure I could have yanked it that fast! Crazy!
Great video… helped me get a hook out so thank you
Thats awesome!
Thanks. Just hooked my finger with a 4x treble. Unfortunately the Barb was deep into muscle/tendon. Jerked on it hard and it only dug in. To the ER - tetanus shot. 7 shots of lidocaine and some handy work by the doc got it.
Hooked myself many times, Thanks! This is much easier
Great job taking the hook out.

Tyson Jacobson Fish are deep. 40-60 feet.
That was awesome.
Thanks for sharing 👍

Well done.
Big props to Cam for letting that hook just kick it till we got the right footage.
I had a 4/0 swimbait hook buried so deep that It would not come out. ER visit was definitely needed. They had a cork board in the ER with at least a hundred hooks and lures hanging on it. I didn't feel so dumb after seeing that!
It happens! Good stuff!

Salmon Killer removing the hook from Kokanee.

Great vid on my way to go fish van hook arm north Dakota for walleye

Yep happened today got 2 of the 3 prongs in
You did it perfectly...
I hooked myself good with a coho killer in my middle finger. I forced the end of the hook through the skin so the barb was exposed, cut off the eye and pulled it the rest of the way through. Hurt like a sumbitch, but still managed 1 king and 2 silvers
