👁 About this video : In today's video we install the cab chop plates for the 3rd gen Tacoma! This is a relatively easy process when you have the right tools! The hardest part at least for us is having a plasma cutter and being able to weld. It's great to have friends that can do this type of work and be able to show how it's done! Once we removed the fender flare and liner it was time to mock up the plates to get our measurements and then start cutting! If you can use this type of tool, I think it's much better than using an angle grinder, we would have been cutting for a long time. After the cut is cleaned up, it's time to tack weld in the plate, make sure it's a good fit and then finish welding it in! After that we sprayed it with paint to give it a nicer look and then flattened the pinch weld for even more clearance! I found it to look so much nicer keeping the fender liner in one piece vs having it hanging and not looking finished. Then I finally added my wheel spacers which give the truck a nice look and now I have clearance for new wheels in tires in the future!

I watched this and one other video, took some screen shots, and did my driver side cmc today. Very helpful showing some details. Im glad this video was here. Thanks.
Glad it helped!! This was a fun project and still have no issues with it! Definitely very helpful for the 34's I'm running now!
Man great job and looks great wish I could get you guys to help me chop mine, have fun off roading
Thanks 👍 definitely helps with clearance!
looks awesome!!
Thanks!
that garage has a plasma cutter and a welder, but no hammer.
lol, we had normal hammers. But needed something with more weight to bend the metal.
Nice and clean
Thanks!!
Nicely done! Now you're ready for the larger tires and really give the new Jeep a run for its money!
You got that right!
It looks great!! I like it
Thanks! Fun project to work on!
Bros FOURR Speed y’all welcome
Another great vid! I just picked up a 2021 TRD PRO in December, and I am already thinking about ripping out the fox suspension and going for a lift. Would I still need a CMC if I get a 3" lift?
Oh nice man! I'm sure you could also sell the Fox suspension and get some money for it!
You really only need the CMC if you're planning for larger then 33in tires. I have 34's on the truck now and they clear just barely now
Awesome looking truck!!! Did you get the speedometer recalibrated for the bigger tires? Is it necessary to do it? Or is being off by about 5mph not that big of a deal?
I have not done that! Speed is less than 5 off at 70 MPH. So not a big deal. But I may do it at some point
Hey i am wanting to get the largest tire on my tacoma i can on my 3rd gen, i dont mind cutting or remolding plastics but am not skilled with welding and dont want to do a cab or mount chop. Whats the largest tire i can fit without a mount chop?
It looks nice and I like it so much👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed actually I'm the same person who ask u to do a video about BMW K1300r
@@lishaanair6675 That's a bike? Haven't seen that one yet.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed I have seen them but I just want a video about that bike only...by the way I'm from Malaysia and may I know where r u from?
Will this void any warranties? I just got a 2021 Tacoma yesterday with a 3” lift and 285/70/17 tires. I’ve already trimmed some plastic away because I was rubbing and I can see how I’m going to be super close to that cab section once my suspension settles in.
Not at all! There's nothing for it to void by cutting that away.
Awesome! I'd recommend getting upper control arms next!
I do have spc's on there now!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed oh right on I must have missed that video!
@@fotomotoxxiii I did that when I put the lift on! I know there are adjustments I can make, but haven't looked into that yet.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed got you. We are about to put old man emu lift on my ladys tacoma so I'll be rewatching that video soon.
@@fotomotoxxiii It wasn't too bad, the rear tool longer surprisingly.
What lift kit do you recommend for a 2020 Tacoma TRD off road 6 inch lift ?
I'd stick with a 3-4in lift. Better ground clearance overall and I've never had issues off road. OME has the kit I'm running. Fantastic kit!
Looks good! I just relocated my cab mount. There’s so much room now.
That's taking completely off right? Rewelding behind where I did?
Bros FOURR Speed www.runnin4tacos.com/collections/2016-2018-toyota-tacoma/products/cab-mount-relocate-kit-for-2005-2019-toyota-tacoma
Bros FOURR Speed That’s correct. It uses the same mounting points on the cab, its just welded to the frame back further, giving you a couple more inches of room. I used the mounts from Runnin4Tacos, but there’s quite a few different companies that make them.
@@DOOSHEAN I've seen that mod, maybe one day, this is a good start lol
Bros FOURR Speed Yeah for sure. It looks good. Its definitely worth it if you still rub there offroad.
You need to max out your positive caster on your LCA cam bolts. You should have way more clearance than that.
I have thought about going and getting another alignment to check that out!
Why did you remove the new fender flares you just installed in the recent videos. I clicked on the link to order them but it would not work
I thought I fixed that link!! But they were just too bulky and I never really liked them, very cheap, but they weren't expensive either so I figured I'd try them. But I'm happy with the stock ones again.
I am about to do that to my fj cruiser is that safe to do and won't mess up your truck??
Just cutting off the corner like this isn't bad as long as you weld in the new plate. It's not structural as much as the rest of the frame. I haven't felt or seen any issues since I did this.
Nice vid
Glad you enjoyed it! This was a fun project for the Tacoma!
Do you know what wheel/ tier combo you want for the future? I remember you talking about how you wanted wheels that had the right offset.
@@lukejaved7799 I think -10 off set and a 34in X 12in tire would be perfect! Almost there
What settings did Alex have on his welder?
Honestly I am not sure on that one! That was my first time being around welding which was neat to see, but I don't know anything about the equipment!
What’s the make and model of your front bumper?
Body Armor Hybrid. I really like it!
Mike why didn't you just buy a spring/strut 2-3" lift kit? Would your tires still have rubbed? I have 285/70/17's and I have a 2" front and 3" inch rear lift but just bought a 3" front coil spring/strut spacer that I am replacing the 2" with. I have minimal rubbing at the moment so I hope the 3" takes care of all rubbing. What are your thoughts?
I already have a lift kit in this video! I have around 3.5'' up front and 3'' in the rear. I didn't have any rubbing on my first set of wheels/tires, but with these once I added the spacers I knew I needed the extra clearance. Now I'm running 34's so I was planning for that as well!
Ok thanks man. I have 33” Crosswind MT’s with 17x9” Fuel 648 wheels. I really enjoy your videos.
I wish I could add an image of my truck on here but it doesn’t give me that option.
@@reeseperry8171 That's a similar setup to this video, 17x9 with 285's! Did fine without the spacers! Thanks for checking out the videos!
@@reeseperry8171 You can send us a message on IG! That's the easiest way to do messages like that!
Maybe disconnect the battery terminal so when you were pounding the pinch weld you wouldn’t set off the airbags...
Not a bad tip. But I don't think a sensor is that close to where we hit it. Also it takes a ton more force to activate an airbag sensor. Pretty sure Mythbusters tested that out and it wasn't possible by hand to get them to activate
The real test is winter. Does SC get snow?
We get like 1 day of snow each year lol
Nice tool bro for tacoma great.. 😀
Thanks!
really good job guys !! tire size 295/70/17 ?
These tires were 295/70/17! But I recently went up to 305/75/17 (34's) and still don't have much rubbing!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed yeah Im going 295/70/17's. Good stuff man !!
@@osamaabdelgader9426 I meant 285’s! Oops, but you shouldn’t have any issues depending on your offset!
When will we get an update on the oil catch can?
I thought I did that, opps...I just recently changed the oil and have about 1/4'' of oil in it, so it's working and doing it's job!
I'm just a little nervous 😓😬 I don't want to do that and screw up something else
It wasn't too bad of a project. As long as you can or know someone who can weld and get that piece cut off!
Bye bye warranty incase you have any rust issues
I coated it really good and of course can monitor it to make sure, I don't like in an area where that would be a major concern either, so I'm not worried about it.
How much for a chop like that and welded
Not too sure. It will depend on the shop. I just paid for the materials since this was at my friends house. But maybe budget $200-$500
Looking to possibly do this for someone I know and was a great video and some great tips to get it done but please invest in a hammer. Lol 🤦🏽♂️
When you don't have one readily available, you have to improvise! Nothing wrong with that lol, it worked great!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed great job man. Thats true. Atleast it worked. Haha
@@jesseochoa5964 Yea, not the right way to do it, but it’ll work! Been a great mod!
Hi :D
Hey! I like the supra pic, you have one?
What’s the benefit of doing this?
It adds clearance for the tires, I showed that in the end of the video. I won't rub as much putting larger tires on or adding the spacers like I did.
You didn’t need to do that if your not planning on running bigger tires. Just set the UCA to E
I am planning to run bigger tires, I mentioned that, but I have seen adjustments to make on the uca, so I still need to look into that!
Bros FOURR Speed definitely cuz it’ll save you having to do extra stuff lol.
