    👁 About this video : In today's video I install drilled and slotted rotors for my 2017 Tacoma! This is a really inexpensive way to upgrade your brakes for better performance! Whether you are towing, adding extra weight or just want the better stopping power, it's a pretty easy upgrade to install. All you have to do is loosen three bolts per side to remove the calipers, take the pads out and switch rotors! It took us a bit of time on the first one, but the other side went very smooth and took no time! My pads and rotors only had about 30K miles on them, but now I have a backup set if I need to use them at some point! Overall I would say this is about a 4 or 5 out of 10 on the scale of installation in the driveway, it's pretty straight forward and only took a few hours!

    I sure hope you guys cleaned the rotors with brake clean to clean off the cutting oil before you put the pads on. I just did my brakes too and as a extra precaution I used blue thread locker on all the caliper bolts and disc brake quiet on the pads. The brakes are awesome and saved my bacon. Latter on that night I had a truck cut me off and the new brakes saved me!
    Keep up the good work!

    Nice upgrade! They look great! Keep these videos coming.
    I'd suggest the next time you have these apart, clean the caliper pins with brake cleaner to get the caked on dust off and apply fresh brake grease. This will help the pads float and prevent them from sticking. Also makes the next brake job go smoother. If you have them wear nitrile gloves when handling the rotor and wipe down with brake cleaner after installing. 👍

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  4 года назад +1

      That's a good tip! I'll have the truck apart in the near future for some more mods so that will be a good time to clean up them again!

    Your rotors and drums on that truck have threaded holes to help remove them when they get stuck on. M8 bolt with 1.25 thread, a couple inches long should work. Much easier then the hammering.

  • @germancarvajal9855
    @germancarvajal9855 4 года назад +1

    mmmmm, looks really good, but is unnecesary, the stock brakes from toyota tacoma are really good, enought to stop a vehicle 2 times bigger easy.
    The discs you installed really are effective for vehicles whose wheels reach enormous speeds, speeds that the wheel of a tacoma will never reach. I would also install some disks like that to my tacoma, but to replace worn out original disks, since the performance will be the same.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed

  • @dublingunner2018
    @dublingunner2018 3 года назад +1

    I can't imagine just changing the rotor would improve braking performance much. Drilled and slotted will help with cooling but the braking pressure from the caliper is still the same. Seems like a waste of money unless you're replacing the calipers as well.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  3 года назад +2

      Better cooling for brake rotors helps with stopping power because it won't have as much brake fade. While the pressure is the same. The cooler rotor is better and more efficiently can stop the truck.

      In the future to compress the piston, you may need to loosen the bleed bolt attach a piece of hose and then compress the calipers that way. Oftentimes there is too much pressure.
