How to Properly Restore and Tint Headlights & Taillights!

- 👋 Today we have a lot of work to do and a few different processes to go over! First up is the headlight restoration for the Tacoma! Unfortunately my newish headlights have started to peel and it's time to fix that and add some tint! Now I have done a few of these restorations in the past and it's not hard work, just very time consuming! In order to start, you need to figure out what grit sandpaper to start with. In my case, I started with 1500 and then 2000. If the coating on your lights is much thinker, you'll need to move down to a 400 or close to that. Now starting that low, you'll need to gradually work up back to 1500 or 2000 to make sure the lens isn't as rough before using the buffer. This is the hardest part of the restoration sanding by hand! Once you have got the entire layer sanded off, it's time to use the buffer and do a few different passes with different compounds. I'll have those below! The rest of todays video is mainly just tinting which isn't too bad, but a heat gun will be your best friend especially on curved lights! My Audi R8 has pretty flat lights and I didn't need heat as much, but the tacoma I had to use it a lot more with the shape of the lights! The light smoke really gives it a great look without being too dark like the previous tint I had on the R8! That was way too dark and I could barely see while driving at night and it really didn't fit well with the car either! If you are looking to tackle this project, smoke tint is the way to go and will give your vehicle a great look!

The lighter tint definitely looks better on the R8. Great tutorial. I'm always hiding my vehicles from the sun to prevent this.

I used Cerakote Headlamp Restoration kit on my van and had good results. Nice part is that there was no buffer necessary.

You still have to wet sand the Headlamp but you get an oxidation remover, sandpaper and ceramic coating. Google it and check out the video.

Yes, check it out. You just have to make sure you get all the oxidation off and sanded evenly. Once you put the ceramic coat on they look brand new.

tint looks great! What are your thoughts on the spray on tints?
I've never messed with those. But honestly I think it would be cool to test it out and see how well they work!
Will it make sense just to go to your car dealership and have the headlight covers replaced with new ones.
These are not the factory headlights so that's not an option lol! If they were factory lights then that could be a possibility, but I'm not in warranty anymore either.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Oh I see. Got you. I have a 2013 Acura ILX with its headlights covers starting to yellow out. I've thought about going to the dealership to replace them. Then I thought about it my car getting old. Why invest in the headlight covers. I can still see at night they haven't affected my night vision yet LOL!
