The Oracle is truly the mastermind. She's put ideas in Morpheus and Trinity head to influence Neo, resulted in Neo make a different choice than any other previous the one. She deliberately gave power to Smith, make him so powerful that no faction can beat him alone, resulted in cooperation between man and machine and peace treaty at the end. In movie 2, Neo save Trinity using his brainwave as an EMP weapon. Matrix plot line is about human generating electricity through nerve activity (brainwave). This is why it has to be Neo and he's the one, an evolve human who can generate so much power with his flesh and blood. The first time he sent his brainwave out, he's lose control of it and accidentally jack/hack into "Train Station". This is why when their friend exam Neo condition, it's exactly like person who went jack into the Matrix and that's also why the Oracle said that he is almost die (from using that power). Matrix 3 movies is about the battle of wits, a chess battle between 2 grandmaster, the Oracle and the Architect. Battle of who are better at controlling their pawns, who are better at the game and at the end, the Oracle won.
They were never awake, that's why when neo uses his "powers" and shutdowns some droids that were going to kill trinity, he "collapses" and can't return, staying in the infinity train station, waiting for morpheus and trinity to "re-plug him" into the real matrix once again. You need to control the sentient bug that can destroy your system once in a while, for that you create an artificial story, where there is ppl believing they are awake and you carve his destiny to his own demise, and that is what the 3 movies are about. Basically how to debug a system with conscious bug, or how to kill a god, i guess.
Gloria Foster is so amazing, the way she impersonates this warm careful motherhood feeling is just exceptional. It feels so natural to the viewer that you simply forget that she's an actress.
I know, I really do think if she was still here to film the matrix revolutions she wouldve made the ending scene perfect and interesting...mary alice took her place in the last matrix cause gloria passed away from sugar diabetes...mary didnt had the same vibe as gloria though R.I.P Gloria Foster
@@michaeljarreau3185 Good comments and observations. Gloria was better all-around vs. Mary Alice. Mary was still good in the role too. Had Gloria survived to film Matrix Revolutions, it may have had a better impact on all with those scenes. Just my best humble guess. RIP, Gloria Foster, RIP.
@@blkbr7580 yeah i know, i was just imagining if gloria was still here and if she did the matrix revolutions, especially that ending sence..It was beautiful
I like Keanu but he’s acting sometimes is sporadic, he great sometimes and awful in others, but I’ve noticed when he’s working with good talent he’s better, like this scene with Gloria foster, this conversation felt very natural!!
Agreed. I love all three, now four, films. I believe that because of this one actors death, and replacing her with another even wonderful actor, they had to change the plot of the film. I wish people would understand that before judging them so harshly.
Well she was manipulating him to sit, she made him come from behind to look at her, the birds are being fed on the left encouraging him to go right to the empty side. She could have been in a scene walking along an empty beach or a park yet she is on a park bench feeding birds and as the architect says, she likes to meddle.
I am a younger generation, this movie was a year before I was born. But it is mind blowing. I do feel like I am part of a system. Waiting for Morpheus to unplug me
I just realized she refers to the candy as a sort of choice. And she responds with I love Candy. Which means she loves the idea of people making their own choices.
@@Voldrim359 Neo could have failed many key choices on his journey as The One, but as the Oracle stated, “He already made the choice, he’s just there to understand why he made it”. Neo knows that ultimately he is willing to make certain sacrifices, he just needed justification from a “higher power” as to why those choices need to be made.
losing Gloria Foster as the Oracle was a blow to the series, she was simply irreplaceable. she wasn't in many scenes but she created an unforgettable character and her undeniable presence owned every scene she appeared in.
Yeah, she was really good as the Oracle. And in the Making Of Matrix Reloaded video, Laurence Fishburne said "During the making of Matrix Revolutions, we lost Gloria Foster. And...we were devastated"
One thing I like about this scene is that Neo knows that she knows everything he is thinking and everything that he knows, yet he still tries to rebel knowing he's going to do what he's going to do, and she knows it. Hence he cannot do anything she cannot foresee in this scene and he's trying so hard
@David Krane you didnt understand the movie if you're saying so. She's the one responsible for umbalancing the equation. Thus giving the edge to humanity for making a deal with the machines.
Guys, The One is Smith. He is really the one foretold to end the war. Neo is an element of control that eventually becomes one of the dozen variables that needs to go awry for The Matrix to end. Neo must go to the Machine City, where the path of The One ends.
That gods, except the leader of the Machines, as well as religious and mythological figures or of folkore don't exist, as Machines control everything. The Oracle also says "why don't you have a spot *this time* ". She and the Architect always controlled the various Neo. Not a single aspect isn't actually controlled by them. And yet he tries to maintain his humanity but that means that he can't realise his fate. Even humanity's freedom is controlled by the Oracle, who redirects every choice to the ending of the third film
Same here. I watch this movie alone as a kid. I remembered crying when I saw neo being shot up and killed by the bad guys(agents). Couldn’t understand any of it. Since then I been watching this movie over and over. It is the “why” that keeps me coming back to it. I question everything since back then. Today I understand
@@caribbeanice2.0 Yup, also a scene in the third film speaks truth loudly, IMHO. See the following from the third film here: ruclips.net/video/Q-VPKuKvOvc/видео.html and go to 0:05 to start picking it up before 0:08. Moral of the entire trilogy: know thyself. Even in a universe where everything is determined. All of your actions are the result of fate/determinism. Yet, if you have the knowledge of WHY you make the choices you make, even if they are determined, you can have faith that your choices are the right ones. In the case of Neo, his ultimate motive was his love for Trinity and, on a larger scale, his love for mankind. Hence WHY he made the choices he did.
When you say it’s about the WHY, are you referring to intention? Because faith in the imperfect intentions of people can often lead to as much bad as good. “The road to hell is paved with good intentions”
"Everyone paints me as a monster. Noone apologises for turning me into one" - Joker Well, he pretty much knows himself, he knows what stands behind his choices, and he seems certain that his actions are justified (a.k.a. the right ones). My conclusion is: there are no perfect choices, someone will hurt, something will be broken no matter what you do. So the right choices are those that allows the good which comes out of it to outweight the harm. Which is ultimately what Oracle did, and what she guided Neo to do as well.
Not necesarily. Returning to the Source is also any program's fate, everyone, and we actually see Rama-Kandra's trip to the Source. I know so far that the Oracle planned everything, but she was actually betting, not something it was gonna happen, and that line didn't actually prove this. The only thing The Oracle actually knows is that Neo is not going to choose to delete himself at the Source, but she doesn't ever know what's happening after. She's just unbalancing the eternal One equation made by the Architect.
I always thought the Oracle WAS CORRECT. Neo simply needed to return to the source in the real world, not in the Matrix, where the Architect was located.
"Because you didn't come here to make the choice, you've already made it. You're here to try to understand WHY you made it." This line explains everything. Not just in the movie, but scientifically in real life.
@AAH Replies I strongly disagree. The "God"(and ultimate depiction of "order") of the Matrix = The Architect, imo. The Oracle says in the very next film that the Architect's goal is to "balance the equation", while her goal is to unbalance it. I'd also argue that this is why the Oracle doesn't control the matrix as the Architect does. She deals with people, and came to the realization that the way forward is "together", as opposed to machines controlling humans or vice versa. The Oracle is in fact much like a certain rebellious angel who had that infamous convo with Eve about eating the "fruit" in the garden of Eden.
I'm very confused. How can he understand why he made a choice he already made without knowing why or even if he made it....I think that' makes sense. Maybe someone can shed some light on this I don't get it.
@@fernando3061 i'm pretty sure it's about determinism, it makes sense since the Merovingian talked about causality too. Neo is predermined to make choices based on his life experiences, the enviroment in which he develops and his biological traits. From what we know from the fisrt encounter between Neo and Smith where Smith interviews Neo it's stated that Neo always had a problem with autorithy, he is biologically hardwired to be a rebel, we also know he loves Trinity and she loves him back (which might be influenced because of what the Oracle said to Trinity before she even met Neo?). Given these two facts the only choice left for him is to save Trinity instead of saving Zion.. Why? His nature goes against autorithy or any system of control so he refuses to take the choice that the arquitect wants him to make, because it implies the continuation of a system of control that ensures survival but takes away freedom of choice. His love for Trinity compells him to take the choice to save her over the choice of saving Zion because his love for one individual is far greater than his love for humanity in general or his basic instinct of ensuring the survival of his species. That's the only choice a person with those personality traits and life experiences would make no matter what, so in a way he had already made the choice, he is just seeing why he made it... you could say life is the same way, our personality and behavior is predetermined by things beyond our control like genes, the enviroment we are raised in, what society considers right or wrong and the people we spend time with... i still don't understand why people hate the sequels so much, they are way deeper than the first movie and far more thought provoking, action scenes were way cooler too but meh whatever
I think that's the best description ive ever heard for Life as a Christian.choice free will were just here to learn why we made the choices we did in life.
'Wouldn't be much of an Oracle if I didn't.' - writing is so philosophical. I wish I will have a great inspiration to be able to write a script like that.
@@ares3052 Choice isn't an illusion, the choice has already been made. You just need to understand why the choice was made....I thought you would have figured that out by now.
Andrew Clark if the Choice has been made then u have no choice and therefore the choice u make is an illusion! 🤦🏻♀️ thought u would have figured it out by now
@@ares3052 What you're referring to as an illusion is more precisely known as a paradox. You can view it as an illusion if you choose to... but you already made that choice didn't you?
I like to think of it as a mix. Choices are made based on a mixture of factors and understanding at the time. I think the Oracle can calculate these to determine what choice will be made. Both a part of free will yet against it as she cannot only understand the factors that lead to any given choice, but to alter them slightly to lead to different choices.
it was actually his love for Trinity. typically the one sacrifices himself upon returning to the architect in x amount of time, returning to the source and resetting the matrix for another x amount of time, so everyone plugged in to the matrix accepts the program. when neo is faced with the sane dilemma his predecessors faced, ie sacrificing himself for humanity by returning to the source and resetting the matrix vs returning to the matrix to save trinity, he chooses one person, Trinity because he loves her more than humanity, which was not a shared connection in previous carnations of Neo. he also believes that he can single handily save everyone, you could say that was stubbornness, but i’d just say it was a shared emotion of hope
@@brenyboy26 Yeah after listening to his conversation with the Architect again, I realized that it was his love for Trinity as well. I was just going off of him basically telling the Oracle that he doesn’t like the idea of not being in control of his own decisions.
"It's tough to get any more obvious than that" is such a wonderful burn. Similar to when she said "Not too bright tho" in the first movie. I love how feisty she is, but she gets away with it on account of her charm.
I absolutely love the exchange of "you didnt come here to make the choice, you already made it. youre here to try to understand WHY you made it". i feel like this is under appreciated philosophically.
Precisely. Because, if a human is legitimately truthful with itself, the REASONS that they choose to do, say, or deny X, Y, Z, or anything at all... are usually pretty obscured. Consider why any human does anything. Why do they engage with strangers on social media? Why do they get involved in law while others become carpenters? Why do you prefer movie A over B--especially if both are well-made? Why are some people attracted to this but not that (and others are the reverse)? Hard to EVER be certain of the "why". The Merovingian covers this topic as well. Obviously. 💪😎✌️ 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨
If you look at it when Neo says "then how can I trust you?" because she is part of the machine program, a nice hint that she is with the humans is the RED candy she gives Neo
After watching this so many times, I finally understand why the Oracle helps Neo: because Neo is the only one that can stop Smith from taking over the Matrix and Machine city
It doesn’t, the oracle set up the events in the series to bring peace to both the machines and humans, by disrupting “the prophecy” with Neo being in love with Trinity and Smith wanting to corrupt the matrix because of his hatred with humans and wanting to defy the purpose of his programming with his own desire. Hence why the oracle gave Neo a cookie. The trilogy hints and foreshadows that the oracle set up the whole thing.
"choice is an illusion given by those in a position of power" - Perfect scene, it's almost mind boggling Oracle: Why don't you come have a seat? (Oracle already knew Neo wasn't going to sit down - But she gave him THE CHOICE by asking him to have a seat) Neo: Maybe I'll stand Oracle: Well suit yourself (***This is the key statement: Instead of trying to beg him to sit down, she again, gives him...almost provoking him indirectly...to sit down by allowing Neo to make his own choice to stand ---> which results with him sitting down anyways xD) Absolutely BRILLIANT SCENE
It also implied what her conversation was about: that he already made the choice he's now to understand. "I felt like sitting" "I know". Subtle but great foreshadowing.
The holy spirit is a spirit.. God expresses himself as a father and Jesus was a man... I'm not saying the Holy Spirit is a female, but the writing of this movie and the process behind it is seems to be divinely inspired
commander316 yes, but simply no. I can't say myself that Holy Spirit would be any degree feminine, even Though He is a Spirit which can have any traits. I admire Matrix greatly like many for its symbolism and philosophy other ppl, but it was obviously made by Hollywoods most powerful occultists who are often associated with societies like Illuminati, Freemasons etc..
@@-Magus hey I just want to say as someone who was led to this video by the Holy Spirit, you are absolutely correct. I doubted myself for a second in discerning who she was but I'm glad you were bold enough to say something.

We can never see past the choices we don't understand. Makes more sense the older we get. This scene, this movie, makes me feel like young. Like visiting garden of eden for some daily motivation. Will forever be my favorite movies
“I’m interest in one thing, Neo: the future, and believe me I know the only way to get there is together.” Best quote in the entire movie. The Oracle knew this cycle of the One and Zion being destroyed over and over would eventually end in the machine world’s demise as well and that peace between man and machine was the only way forward if both wanted to survive.
So the Oracle can predict what would happen when she can manipulate others or when others have already made their choices before actually executing those choices - those are the choices she understands, the predictable ones already made well in advance. Subconscious stuff that's predictable. But she cannot predict anything when a choice has not yet been made, she cannot control the choice, so she has to just hope they make the ones she intends them to make. So her predictions stop every time an actual choice needs to be made, and she tries to nudge them in the direction she wants at that point. She can predict whatever happens between 2 choices, but can't see past a moment where a choice is needed. In a way she's open to the possibilities and willing to take the risk, trust and hope things work out. The Architect by comparison simply cannot understand the concept of choice itself and tries to account for every single possibility that can fit into his math. He tries to make his world perfectly predictable, controllable and deterministic, but he fails. Truly he cannot handle ANY choice - then all his calculations and designs break down. He doesn't want to take risks and doesn't hope or trust anyone.
Perfectly put. I think that's why we should never plan beforehand.. because if we do that, plan can be easily meddled with and interrupted with forces of nature or Universe or whatev. But when we make a choice instantaneously and without any hesitation, that changes things.. makes an impact in the flow of reality and is the purest application of free will. Just my two cents.
That same empty feeling. Lived in cities with hardly any people in them, giving them that intangible haunted feeling people talk about most Source games having.
It seems to me that the Oracle is a pure probabilities and statistical analysis algorithm created to maintain structural integrity of a unified system. A machine can analyze and predict reality in ways that we can't ever imagine, but she can't do is make Neo choose to be the One. She can only influence his decision. That's why everytime this happens it is such a gamble. She knows, alongside with the Architect, the inevitability of his choice. Smith is the wildcard, in this iteration. The rogue element, not Neo. Throughout multiple generations of systematic control, who would have thought the ultimate rebellion would come from an "agent of the system"? That's why he calls her "Mom", in the 3rd movie. Because she created him, to provide a suitable antagonist for humans to fight against.
Kwame Acheampong she is a human psyche program made to study human emotions and interactions....she was the one that brought up the idea if humans were given the idea of choice that they wouldn’t reject their reality
Makes sense outside of her creating Smith intentionally. That's like the last thing machines would find beneficial. He ended up being a threat to the matrix and machines survival. I guess machines don't treat humans as their enemies, theyre just machines. And they probably see it would be beneficial to cooperate with humans to some extend. But still don't see why wouldn't machines want to get rid of Zion all together, and they would if it wasn't for Smith rebelling.

As the years pass by, my appreciation for the Matrix Trilogy continues to grow - rather than being diminished. Because the philosophical questions and the meanings you can plainly interpret from such dialogue are something easily missed when younger or when not paying close attention. Of course, some people read too far into such things, but I think these movies were very well written in this regard. These movies deal with fundamental questions relevant to our nature as sapient beings - that of determinism, free will, and the meaning of choice. If one makes a choice - what does that choice really mean? When is the choice made - is it made deterministically in advance, and we should simply try to understand it? Is understanding our choice and being willing to continue to make those choices meaningfully different from ignoring such choices? This scene I love because the Oracle makes it clear that in spite of her being able to read the future, she still never tries to directly intervene on the choices of others. You can argue that she manipulated others, but at the same time she always makes it clear that she wants Neo and others to understand their choices so they can build a better future. Neo understands that she is able to tell what he will do next, and yet in spite of that he will ponder and do his best to move on rather than being discouraged. In the first film he denied the words of the Oracle (even as she basically misled him for his own good), thinking it must be impossible that she could know such a difficult choice (between him and Morpheus) must be made. By realizing however that he shouldn't be tied down by what he thinks his choices are, and instead should understand his choices and find a third option - he became as free in will as I think is possible.
For people wondering about the oracle's sight - Seeing things without time means something akin to having a movie already on what you're doing for an entire day, lets say its already recorded and you can watch it as much as you want. But since we're human we don't view time this way, we experience it as if on constant-play, progressively going through the movie 1 second at a time. When he asks "do you already know if i'm going to take it" about the candy, and she responds "you didn't come here to make a choice, you came here to understand why" what this means is that lets say in your movie, you ate some popcorn before dinner. The reason you did that, "the why", was because you were really hungry and couldn't wait for dinner time. So the focus is not so much on whether or not you chose to eat popcorn, its about understanding why you WOULD wanna eat popcorn before dinner. The choice, you can say, was already made (this is an allusion to fate). The philosophy of time in this movie follows that as long as people are predictable, only acting "in the moment" and making choices based on details "in the now" then the outcome is always exactly what it was meant to be, this is a specific type of fate. But if you broaden your choices to include both the past and future, and you react differently than you're supposed to, then this is defying fate. This is something similar to, if you're on your way to the store and a bird poops on your shoulder, you're going to get angry for a moment and maybe have an outburst. Its highly improbable that you would be happy or laugh about it, or wave at the bird for example. But if you go AGAINST what you are predictably going to do (aka, perform alchemy, to get a different reaction) then you no longer follow fate and you begin to view the world without time. Why? Because instead of focuing on the choice you made, you first study and come to understand HOW choices are made (the WHY) and this means, that now that you KNOW what you're "supposed to do/fated to do" you can then change it. Understanding the why, is the key to the ocacles future sight and how she can change the future, and how neo changes it. The end of movie 3 says she plays a dangerous game, this is because the machines with their vast prediction and calculating abilities saw that it was inevitable neo would return to the source and restart the cycle of the matrix again, and factored everything, every minute detail, into making it a near 100% chance, but since the oracle taught neo how to see the WHY of choices, she enabled him to choose something different, thus defying his fate.
I love how this conversation is the Oracle determining outcomes before they happen, and Neo asserting his free will, if only briefly, like when he for a moment refuses to sit, as if to say"I choose my own actions"
This movie influenced me a lot. To this day I think of a choice exactly like that. We are not here to make the choices, we've already made them, we're only here to understand why
I kinda glossed over their conversation back when I first watched this as a kid. But now that I look back at it now, she explains a great deal about the situation with the programs (like Smith and the Merovingian) and the story of the whole franchise (return to the source, the deus ex machina)
R.I.P. Gloria Foster This was her last movie before she had died and then Mary Alice takes over she used to be married to Clarence Williams III She will be missed
"If you already know, how can I make a choice?" Because foreknowledge doesn't equate to control. I know that if someone drops a ball, it will fall to the ground, but I am not in control of the actions of that person or the ball's inevitable descent.
the philosophy here is actually quite brilliant if you think about it. But it's also a little mindbending. The line "because you didn't come here to make a choice, you've already made it. You're here to understand why you made it" is rather insightful. Take this as an example: Neo had, long before this scene, decided on the types, colors, etc. of candy he would accept. His goal in this scene isn't to make a decision whether to accept the piece of red candy from basically a stranger, it's to figure out why he is already inclined to accept a piece of red candy from basically a stranger.
this scene has aged like fine wine. people back then didn't even think AI could become more human. but put them in a simulation where all they know is humanity and you get this
The matrix is perhaps the most impressive series in history . It was made at the very tail end of progress. The 2005ish era is when change from doing effort to whatever one can get get most from doing the least became style
Oracle reminds me of gandlf from Lord of the rings they are both wise and have very good hearts and will stop at nothing to destroy all that is pure evil and both very awesome universes.
Absolutely. I haven't watched these films since I had an awakening. Just watched these back and I feel like half the dialogue is the characters speaking to me through the screen.

The oracle could never see the future. She's a very old program designed to study human physche. She has seen other variations of the one and the lover of the one. She has seen other variations of all the minds freed. She wouldn't be able to predict the future of someone born in Zion because she hasnt seem other variations of them do the things shes "predicting" she is guiding neo but i dont think shes in fact helping him. More or less doing her job to keep humans and the matrix running. "Only way to do that is together" brilliant writing
I agree. I think Neo realises this when the architect explains it. It's probably another small reason why he chose the left door (trinity being the main reason). he wanted control of his own life, not just follow what others had done.
free will isnt predetermined destination but rather choices that we make on how to get there .enjoy all that we experience even negative situations are there to help us grow when were not quite understanding like a wake up call but through and through we are all free if we believe we are and bound if we believe we are. but we are all going to get to go home one day. letting others influence you is giving up your freewill power, its as simple as that. something so powerful if not seen can be used against you if you let others do so. just be yourself and ignore all media and people and youll be happy
I love how the candy is red like the pill he took. The way she talks about choice with the red candy. Showing neo struggling in thinking of choosing the truth was the right option
"Choice is an illusion made by those with power and those with out it." The Oracle, and the Architect, are two sides of the same coin. One tells you what is going to happen. The other tells you why it is going to happen. No matter what you do, think or feel. you will make it happen. Because that is your job and The One is just another program.
"The only way to get there(future) is together(man and machines)" - Oracle. She is a code that feels human and machines can co-exists. She literally stated the end of 3rd Movie here.
"I'm interested in one thing, Neo; the future. And believe me, the only way to get there is together." Neo thinks she's talking about how she's on his side despite not being human, but this is already dropping a hint that she's willing to gamble on Man and Machine going extinct if it means a chance at peace that would otherwise never happen.
she learned the beauty of the human mind. although subjugated. she probably got sick of the whole matrix reboot thing with the "ONE" BS, and the whole system of control. she was fed up already, and realized that that cycle had to end. since it involved alot of human death (each time Zion was destroyed).
If you really think about it that's almost what makes them like a family, the architect is that cold father figure who doesn't really like you and talks to you in that condescending tone, where as the Oracle is more motherly and nurturing, she does her best to speak in a dialogue that she knows a child could understand
My god, she's almost like a typical West Indian auntie; wise, firm, but at the same time caring. I was so pissed when I realized she wasn't in the subsequent part of the series; before I knew of her demise. Really enjoy how well she played the Oracle.
I think this franchise was cool. Yes it didn’t quite live up to the original film but each instalment had their merits. And Don Davis scores were amazing.
The actress Gloria Foster who plays the oracle died in 2001, but Matrix Reloaded was released in 2003. That means they shot the movie two years earlier? ....
Yes. They filmed 2 and 3 simultaneously. Then you have to account for a lot of things, i.e editing, post-production, publicity, and reshoots (if required) Just a few examples. Also most movies are not filmed in the manner of what you're watching. Think of it as a jigsaw puzzle. Every actor has their schedules for certain scenes, like say Hugo Weaving has a week to do all his scenes, then they have to schedule everyone involved in his scenes accordingly.
@@deebunny178 Gloria Foster acted in Matrix 1 and Matrix Reloaded, in the third movie they changed to another woman. I'm talking about the second movie....
Theres this weird aura that the oracle emits where you just learn to trust in yourself in being the best and that theres always someone else looking out for you even if you don't know it. Even though her dialogue doesn't exactly say this word for word.
When she says the reason why he is there to understand his choice, I just realized that she meant the choice he made the other 5 times.he is also trying to make a different outcome than all the other times he just needed to love trinity more than the rest of humanity.
Anyone else notice the candy was red like the pill?
i think that was the point
good notice
Not sure if it's meant to imply that the candy = forbidden fruit, which is essentially what the red pill was(in a 'garden of eden' context).
I like to think it was a hot tamale, delicious cinnamon flavored candy. Yeah I can see the machines using that to keep you in dreamland.
She is THAT powerful.

A great observation, as i sensed the same thing too.
"Him trying so hard to rebel" is already what she has foreseen, there is no other outcome. Hence why she says "u already made the choice"

@@jvk1285 dude, you talk like the Oracle !
Yeah, its jesus.

Noone apologises for turning me into one" - Joker
Well, he pretty much knows himself, he knows what stands behind his choices, and he seems certain that his actions are justified (a.k.a. the right ones).
My conclusion is: there are no perfect choices, someone will hurt, something will be broken no matter what you do. So the right choices are those that allows the good which comes out of it to outweight the harm. Which is ultimately what Oracle did, and what she guided Neo to do as well.
Your thoughts aren’t pre-determined. You have free will
My God you said it perfectly!!!!
You are the Polonius of RUclips. "Know thyself" is the most trivial and useless form of advice ever given.
"Or return to the source" She already planned out Agent Smith's demise before he became a threat.
"So, he died because the man who killed him, YOU existed?"
"No, he died because HE existed."
It is the role of the One, after all.
Oh, I know. The prophecy was a sham.
But it still came true.
The Oracle created Smith when she cultivating neo.
I always thought the Oracle WAS CORRECT. Neo simply needed to return to the source in the real world, not in the Matrix, where the Architect was located.
"Because you didn't come here to make the choice, you've already made it. You're here to try to understand WHY you made it."
This line explains everything. Not just in the movie, but scientifically in real life.
Life is a movie too cause were acting out a script that was already written by us or God im sure you had dejavu before
Yeah, so? Even King Solomon says in the Bible, same shit as you.

Neo’s stubborn and rebellious nature is what separated him from his predecessors
it was actually his love for Trinity. typically the one sacrifices himself upon returning to the architect in x amount of time, returning to the source and resetting the matrix for another x amount of time, so everyone plugged in to the matrix accepts the program. when neo is faced with the sane dilemma his predecessors faced, ie sacrificing himself for humanity by returning to the source and resetting the matrix vs returning to the matrix to save trinity, he chooses one person, Trinity because he loves her more than humanity, which was not a shared connection in previous carnations of Neo. he also believes that he can single handily save everyone, you could say that was stubbornness, but i’d just say it was a shared emotion of hope

She is the one who created Smith too
Smith was actually "the one." Not Neo.. youtube it. It explains it very well..

Best quote in the entire movie.
The difference between hard determinists and soft determinists
Perfectly put. I think that's why we should never plan beforehand.. because if we do that, plan can be easily meddled with and interrupted with forces of nature or Universe or whatev. But when we make a choice instantaneously and without any hesitation, that changes things.. makes an impact in the flow of reality and is the purest application of free will. Just my two cents.
Beautiful description!😢

The oracle reminds me so much of my grandma
Miss you gramma ♥️
This is easily my favorite dialogue scene in Reloaded.
The scenery and feeling that the Matrix was given really reminded me of some of the areas in Half-Life 2.

This is a great scene, makes me want to watch reloaded again. Especially for THE TWINS!!!
Of the sequels, I found this scene the most relevant and meaningful. Gloria Foster was everything.
If you got how deep that simple convo was you're woke.
Nah woke is the garbage 4th movie. This is a masterpiece
"What do all men with power want? More power." Such a true statement!
I love how this conversation is the Oracle determining outcomes before they happen, and Neo asserting his free will, if only briefly, like when he for a moment refuses to sit, as if to say"I choose my own actions"
This is the best movie scene in human history. So what program is covid-19? Anyone?
Smith virus. They don't die.. they merely become a Smith
Everytime u heard something about vampires werewolves or aliens..it's the system assimilating something they are not supposed to be doing
R.I.P. Gloria Foster This was her last movie before she had died and then Mary Alice takes over she used to be married to Clarence Williams III She will be missed
Lmao I love this scene
"Why don't you come and have a sit this time?"
"Maybe I'll stand"
"Suit yourself"
...*sits* "...I felt like sitting"
"I know"
"If you already know, how can I make a choice?"
Because foreknowledge doesn't equate to control. I know that if someone drops a ball, it will fall to the ground, but I am not in control of the actions of that person or the ball's inevitable descent.
It's 2021 and I still love every bit of this Trilogy
This conversation is about LIFE
the philosophy here is actually quite brilliant if you think about it. But it's also a little mindbending.
The line "because you didn't come here to make a choice, you've already made it. You're here to understand why you made it" is rather insightful. Take this as an example: Neo had, long before this scene, decided on the types, colors, etc. of candy he would accept. His goal in this scene isn't to make a decision whether to accept the piece of red candy from basically a stranger, it's to figure out why he is already inclined to accept a piece of red candy from basically a stranger.
this scene has aged like fine wine. people back then didn't even think AI could become more human. but put them in a simulation where all they know is humanity and you get this
*Like fine spoiled milk
The matrix is perhaps the most impressive series in history .
It was made at the very tail end of progress.
The 2005ish era is when change from doing effort to whatever one can get get most from doing the least became style
R.I.P. Gloria Foster.🙁☹
2:14 "not too bright though."
It polite to accept if you don’t want to antagonize someone but that doesn’t mean u should eat it . I don’t think he ate it.
Oracle reminds me of gandlf from Lord of the rings they are both wise and have very good hearts and will stop at nothing to destroy all that is pure evil and both very awesome universes.
Amazing scene just pure dialogue but so good
I admire to Matrix philosophy and to Oracle's speeches.
The parallels to a spiritual awakening are uncanny. It's all there. How deep you go determines how much you see.
Absolutely. I haven't watched these films since I had an awakening. Just watched these back and I feel like half the dialogue is the characters speaking to me through the screen.
@@TripleB-nb8en awakening is bullshit . NO one is awake no one is sleeping. There is actually no real way to know whether someone is awake or asleep.
@@КонстантинКругляков-г1у I'm at a stage were I'm working on my own journey of awakening. I'm not interested in trying to wake others or explain this to them. All I will say is you are incorrect and absolutely 'asleep'. You probably watch these films for the fight scenes.
I hear that voice and I get hungry for a full bowl of cookies and a tall glass of ice cold milk! 😁
free will isnt predetermined destination but rather choices that we make on how to get there .enjoy all that we experience even negative situations are there to help us grow when were not quite understanding like a wake up call but through and through we are all free if we believe we are and bound if we believe we are. but we are all going to get to go home one day. letting others influence you is giving up your freewill power, its as simple as that. something so powerful if not seen can be used against you if you let others do so. just be yourself and ignore all media and people and youll be happy
we are all super heroes...we just need to make the right decisions....the right choice...
A master of confusing conversations
@trueman mann but neo gave middle finger to those machine programs called oracle and architect
Lol
I love how the candy is red like the pill he took. The way she talks about choice with the red candy. Showing neo struggling in thinking of choosing the truth was the right option
such a shame she died before filming Matrix Revolutions.. RIP .. I loved her character
Neo: I felt like sitting
Oracle: I know. (Nice try.)
Haha yes.
"Choice is an illusion made by those with power and those with out it."
The Oracle, and the Architect, are two sides of the same coin. One tells you what is going to happen. The other tells you why it is going to happen. No matter what you do, think or feel. you will make it happen. Because that is your job and The One is just another program.
one day AI will be so advanced that we will have the chance to have this type of conversation with a machine...
"The only way to get there(future) is together(man and machines)" - Oracle. She is a code that feels human and machines can co-exists. She literally stated the end of 3rd Movie here.
"I'm interested in one thing, Neo; the future. And believe me, the only way to get there is together."
Neo thinks she's talking about how she's on his side despite not being human, but this is already dropping a hint that she's willing to gamble on Man and Machine going extinct if it means a chance at peace that would otherwise never happen.
she learned the beauty of the human mind. although subjugated. she probably got sick of the whole matrix reboot thing with the "ONE" BS, and the whole system of control. she was fed up already, and realized that that cycle had to end. since it involved alot of human death (each time Zion was destroyed).
This goes to show what an amazing actress Gloria Foster was, Reading a very detailed script about programmes and such and pulled it off
Oracle talks more meaningful and inspirational than the architect.
She was made for this part. I wish the oracle was my grandma.
Gloria Foster a beautiful actress and she plays that role🏆
20 yrs later... I finally understand.
Strange I been knew must be genetics or me just wanting to understand I watched this when I was 14 and was grown ever since
understand what?
Angelo Ulibas the purpose of the Nio and the Oracle
Love your role in Matrix, from your fan in Thailand.
They used a completely different woman for the Oracle role in the 2nd and 3rd movie.
@@deebunny178 Gloria Foster acted in Matrix 1 and Matrix Reloaded, in the third movie they changed to another woman. I'm talking about the second movie....
@@mr.caushi863 I completely forgot that she was in the 1st and 2nd one. My apologies lol.
@@deebunny178 well this scene is reloaded..
This little clip can make people go crazy
Coming back to the Matrix after reading up on Gnosticism is such a tickle.
