  • In this video we crack open this 15 year old part and see how much metal has accumulated over the mileage of the vehicle.
    While Honda does not call out this part as a serviceable item, we replaced it a Magnefine 3/8" inline transmission filter from NAPA which fits well in the existing bracket in front of the radiator. You can also go with OEM Honda replacement part No. 25430-PLR-003.

    I just changed the transmission fluid in our 2007 CR-V with about 215,000 miles. My sister bought the car new and sold it to me about 7 years ago. She could not remember if the fluid had ever been changed or flushed so I figured it hadn’t been. I usually remove the fluid pan but didn’t on this one because it had an outside filter and magnet is on the drain plug. I drained 3.4 quarts(3.22 liters) and replaced with new fluid. I also replaced the filter on this video with factory filter. I risked that the transmission might start slipping but after weeks of driving it hasn’t. Drained with car cold and replacement fluid at same ambient temperature. I wondered how dirty the filter could be and if it might be blocking flow. I was happy to see someone had cut it to see inside. Thanks

    Pissed myself laughing. You totally contaminated the filter with the hacksaw swarf.😂

      Not really. The black gunk in the filter clearly was already there. Any silver sparkles from cutting the filter would be very minimal. This is an old filter being thrown away…

    When it comes to replacing the one you got at NAPA will you cut it open and make a video of that one also. As fluid dynamics and filter fins play an important role to keep unneeded pressure off the pump, gaskets, and seals. It's like after careful review I would never use a Fra*m filter on any of my cars. I found even the no-name filters are better. But I prefer Purulator ones which are pretty similar to the insides of Wicks when cut open. How many fins around with the OEM and how many with the NAPA?

      @cartips3198  2 года назад +2

      I didn’t count the fins in the OEM one but it was way overdue for a change. Honda doesn’t specify a chance interval for this filter. I’m very confident the new filter has much better filtering ability plus it has a magnet inside. I don’t plan to change it for a long time. When I do, though, I will cut it open too

    I guess if that’s all you have but normally you should use something that’s not going to leave remnants of metal

    Is that the right filter for a 2003 CRV? I'm having a bit of trouble finding info about it, and there are two bolts stuck on the front bumper/plastic under cladding that I cant get off to take a look.

    Did the OEM filter have any kind of magnet?

      No magnet in the OEM filter. Only magnet from Honda is in the transmission’s drain plug

    Do you know if the filter has a sensor, or just change it, and nothing else

      No sensor, you can just replace it.

      Посмотри какая жидкость идет на твою машину по мануалу. Может ты залил ATF не той вязкости, что требуется? У меня Honda crv 2008, для нее нужно ATF Z1, которое имеет вязкость при 100 град. 7,64 сСт. Сейчас это масло не выпускается (с 2011г). Выпускают ATF W1, у которого вязкость 6,8сСт. Я думаю надо подбирать ATF по вязкости. Посмотри мануал и выбери по вязкости, а не по бренду.

    Can you change the filter without doing a drain and refill?

    • @cartips3198
      @cartips3198  17 дней назад +1

      Yes I think you could. Just clamp off the lines and swap out the filter. The amount of lost fluid should be minimal. If
      You should not lose more than a few ounces.

      @@theroyalone7588 yes you could if you felt it was necessary. A few spoonfuls - say one ounce - probably won’t make a difference
