will these shift solenoids cause the transmission to hesitate going in gear and will it cause it to slip in and out of gear especially in Drive on a 2006 Honda CVR? when I put it in low position it will go in gear a lot faster and more seems more solid and same thing with second Drive it takes it longer you sit there a few seconds and then it will like grab and then let go grab and let go it's not like it's slipping it just let's go like it in neutral and then it will go back in gear and then back out and so forth hope I'm making sense will it cause this problem? and this started all of a sudden no warning, I would appreciate any help or input you could give me👍🏻

@@redbaronat7238 Hi! Thank you for the great video. I am having an issue with my Acura TL 2003 where I only have shifting issues once the car gets warm (about 30 min after driving). The transmission is completely fine initially, but then it starts shifting hard or taking too long to shift. Do you know if that is likely associated with this shift solenoid? If not, what else do you think that may be the reason? Thank you.
@@renatoamorimtorres7915 The TL uses a different transmission and it has known/documented issues which are typically mechanical in nature, not solenoids 9 times out of 10. It was simply a terribly designed transmission that has nothing but issues. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Good luck

Great video, thanks! I have already picked up some solenoids from a junk yard as I had tried cleaning mine out but to no avail. Now I can check the solenoids before fitting. Hopefully that's the issue - sounds similar to your problem.

Thanks for this information. I just purchased a Honda CRV that needs a couple things before it’s drivable. I took it for its first drive today, first gear was fine, but when it shifted to second, it fell into what felt like neutral, and eventually made its way into second gear After a complete stop. I drained the transmission fluid, definitely looked like it needed changing, but not horrible. I’ll start by pulling the solenoids and giving them a once over.
I want to say thank you for that video I was able to replace both solenoids, unfortunately I could not get them from a salvage yard, and I did not want to spend $900.00 dollars from Honda, I purchased the solenoids from Amazon $178.00 for Both. Shifting problems are fixed, thank you.

Thx for your video, I picked up one sentence from it is that " Don't use the aftermarket solenoid", as I replaced the aftermarket one the transmission eve has a new delay shifting issue, so I clean the old one and put it back, my miss shifting problem fixed. thanks!
I have been fighting this problem on my 2011 Honda CRV since I bought it new. The dealer would run it on the computer and test drive it and say it was okay. My problem is intermittent on the 3 and 4 gear solenoid up shift. It sometimes won’t shift up into OD (4 gear) on flat ground. Now I can fix it myself. I was worried that I was going to be facing a transmission rebuild. My CRV only has 54,000 miles on it. Thank you!
Did it work out for you? My 2005 has been having the 1st-2nd shift problem also. it won't do it if I come to a complete stop, but if I roll it it will slam into second.
Can you tell me if this is the same problem? My 2005 CRV runs fine goes from 1st to 2nd just fine then it will go to 3rd. But when I’m going up a hill it will start loosing speed and the It acts like it is shifting down a gear and the RPM will increase but there’s no increase in speed just RPM’s. When I top the hill the RPM’s doesn’t drop back down until I release the gas pedal. Any suggestions?
@@johnwelbornjr519 That is the feature of the transmission called "grade logic" it will hold the lower gear until you get to the top of the hill. To prevent shifting up/down and up/down. It will do the same thing downhill if you are riding the brakes.
Hello, I saw your video and seems to me that you explain really good the problem. I I’m experiencing almost the same but I bought the after market solenoids and my car is working worse than ever. If you have any suggestions I’ll will appreciate it
Nice job brother. I am licensed as well but I've been out of the field for a while now. I just bought a 2007 tl type s with a "bad trans". my question is this you said it wouldn't shift at all? Mine will sometimes but it stops and just revs like it's in neutral. Codes are for all the trans shift solenoids. Is this the same issue with the not shifting you had or similar? I haven't had a chance to take them off and check resistance and power them to test yet.
So I pulled one, the double "barrel" at the junkyard and it reacted the same as your original. Pulled 2 more and got the idea that they'd test easier with a pigtail as well as allowing me to test the ones still mounted. When I used the pigtail, using the connectors and wires from the car, they all tested good.
SOOOO....I'm Don and I think that I figured out my mistake in the above situation. I was using a Power checker with a light bulb and the bulb must've been dropping enough voltage to not trigger the solenoid. I did also use a portable battery charger and used common ground, Neg side of the charger, to both ground sides of the pigtail/connector. .
Kind of curious now if my accord is being caused by this. It’s not consistent, sometimes I seems like it is slipping other times it’s fine. Seems like it’s the 2 to 3 is when it does it. Just revs up and doesn’t move, I let off the gas and it will then go.
This is my next move. I have been experiencing some front end vibration going from 2nd to 3rd. I had read several people talking about replacing the passenger side axle and that solved the problem. I replaced my axle because it was actually weeping. Didn't solve problem. Now am going to try this. Thanks for making the video.
I was wondering if u could help I have 01 crv and it seems to have trouble going to second. If I drive it hard its fine. But I take it easy I have to feather the throttle for it to accelerate properly
Checking this out because my car seems to be shifting late and a little hard from 1-2 and 2-3. I have a 2007 element awd w/ 5speed auto. Is there a 4/5 solenoid to be aware of as well? Service manual doesn't seem to indicate so which has me puzzled because how else would the 5th gear engagement be controlled?
When you install do you use thread locker on the bolts. Went to check this on mine 2 bolts were broken off and one was half spun out. Won't build pressure that way
Hey bru thanks for that video,I have a problem with my Honda fit transmission gearbox it only engage reverse gear when it's cold, but once it's hot all the gears engage what could be the problem
Hi. I have a 2006 civic with i shift semi auto gear box and when taking off from 1st 2nd sometimes on 3rd gaer the car jerks as if it wants to cut out but other days it works fine.
I have a 2009 CRV, that has a shuddering/juddering going on from 3 to 4 gear. It is a 5 speed automatic. At 105,000 miles I changed the trans oil 2 times with mileage in between and at the end changed the in line filter. At 125,000 miles it’s starting again. Usually it’s at around 40 mph, and it happens very infrequently. What do you suggest? Would you use Lube Gard Shutter Fixx? Thanks…..Jim PS…..I bought this car new, trans oil changed every 30k since new. It’s so easy that I have always done it myself, always Honda DW-1 trans fluid.
Does it effect the mileage and would that correct hard shifts like going up even slight hills it quickly goes to 4 to 5 rmps especially on Cruise control and it has no get up and go
Hello there great video. I have a H. Element 2006 AT, and today the transmission started to fail, we ran the scanner and P0122 code came up. Do this have to do with the transsmision? I know this code is related to TPS, but just want to make sure if this code can make the transmission to go bad or fail. I will check the selenoids has you recomend also.
Do you have a breakdown video. I am a newbie, but did work on some cars before. But did not work on cars for more than 2 decades. so my confidence is low. I would appreciate if you have a video of the removal. so I would have some confidence in do it. if not some advice, my problem sound almost the same and I have 2004 CRV.
I'm working on the same thing right now. There's one more very important solenoid. It's on the front drivers side of the transmission on my 05 odyssey. I believe it's the tc lockout solenoid. When you remove it, there's a bowl shaped screen that will likely be full of metal shavings and particulates, clean it and if you ca find one, replace the gasket. It's a rubber direct fit gasket that drops into groves all around the solenoid mating surface. Also, clean all of the old debris and grime off of the Trans mating surface or you chance transmission fluid seepage from one orifice to another, effectively defeati the purpose of cleaning it out at all.
Got a weird front end whining on my 07 AWD Element. Its quiet but wondering if its a problem. Generally it only makes the noise when accelerating. Also getting what feels like a binding sensation that comes and goes. Feels like it surges forward when holding speed and rpms. Thinking it may be AWD components. Any thoughts? Might drop my driveshaft to isolate the rear differential from drive line.
06 accord 2.4 I have 2 cel codes pointing to solenoid b. I will pull the part out and test it like you did. It is hard to get into 1st gear and won't go in reverse.
Is this also related to Accord 3.0 Vtec?. It hits hard if I accelerate enough. When cold is fine but after it warms up say about 10min then it slips then hit hard.
I have a Accord SDA 2.4 Y2005. even in a hot and humid equatorial country, morning starts are difficult. When I shift to D, the transmission just would not engage into 1st gear. The car will not move. If the car manage to engage into 1st, it would jerk real hard and then it will jerk hard again when shifting from 1 to 2 when pulling away. I heard many of the older Hondas have this shift issues. Is that the same as what you experienced?
What does the 'overdrive' solenoid do? I own an Acura TL 2006 AT, I cleaned the shift solenoid (dual) and it started acting up. The tranny slips and changes gears whatever it likes to. When driven slowly I just feel harder shifting but when pushed really hard it kinda slips. I pulled a p0741 code, cleared it, and hasn't returned so far. Not sure if I burned some internal clutches or if solenoids are faulty. I tried using the car's battery to test it and it clicks so don't really know what the problem is.
Hey I really need your help with this question!! I took the rods out when replacing the solenoid from the jump yard with a good one, but I put the new ones in from the new solenoid I just got from the jump yard, but now I'm scared they had to be in a certain order. Can you please help me!!! They all look the same and I have them all out now so I'm freaking out. (Worried as hell)
I have an 06' element that I believe is slipping the rpms will rev up and not go anywhere, few years ago I replaced the transmission filter. it has fluid, any thoughts?
Same goes to my accord n sometime at the traffic light it become neutral....but the next day i start the car i work normally....may be this is the syamptoms of bad solenoid? occur the problem just in the 1st to 2nd gear...so can i just replace the front solenoid?
Mine, when driving with little pressure on the pedal, shifts and sounds like it's about to stall. It's as if when it goes from 2nd gear it jumps into 4th gear and that is making it feels that way.
Hello Looking for some advice My daughter's 1999 CRV dipstick was not on properly so she lost a lot of fluid and the car stopped moving at all in time. We topped up the fluid and it ran fine for a few minutes then stopped moving as if in neutral. Now when we try it after an overnight stop it again runs for a few minutes and then after a few minutes of shifting ok into all gears manually it then stops moving and the shift lever won't go into 2 or 1. Can you please advise what parts could have become damaged - is it beyond repairs on the car or will it need to be rebuilt to fix? I am willing to try a rebuild I have rebuilt a manual transmission before. Thanks
is it this the same with civic 2001? because i can’t find that 3 to 4 gear solenoid which is that your saying is in from on the top of the transmission thanks
Hi I have a 2006 Honda Pilot AWD 4x4 . I turned on to a street and I heard a loud pop and then grinding I stop and put it in park and nothing. What a mean is there was not park or any gear. The shifter was free no resistance. Mind you Iprior to that i have not had any problem at all with transmission. COULD IT BE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE ?
Nice video, thanks. Do you have an idea if bad solenoid could be the problem with hard shifting into reverse. I had problems shifting from 1 to 2 when the e fine is cold, but works okay when hot. I replaced the solenoid as you describe and that seem improved. The reverse still hard to shift to sometimes.
Will i have to drain the transmission fluid before changing this or is it above the reservoir level? is it high enough up that i can remove it without making a mess if i don't drain the fluid?
Is it true that transmission solenoid can stop working when it is heated up from driving? In the morning my car drives great but after a while when idling at a light or parked in my car when I step on the gas the car doesn't catch gears, no movement and my engine will Rev vary high if I try to step on it I have to let my car cool down after that usually I don't drive it until the next day when it happens but the next day I start it up and drive perfectly.
OK so I just picked up a 2003 Honda Civic EX And it is having similar problems but not exactly the same as yours, Mine has inconsistent shift delay issues from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3, but sometimes it's just fine and no delays, I am considering replacing the shift solenoids on the transmission, do you think I'm headed the right direction?
I have a 2000 Honda CRV I recently replace the neutral safety switch on the transmission is not shifting into 2nd or 3rd gear do you think the shift solenoid is bad?
Hi, I know this video is 3 years old I hope you still answer comments. My 2000 odyssey is some times not shifting into 1st gear especially when the engine is cold. When it warmed up seems to be shift fine. But I have a check engine light on all the time now and sometimes the dtc light will also comes on, but not staying on all the time like the check engine light. I wonder if it's still the selenoid issue? Thank you in advance!
My Element is a manual, but my 04 Accord 2.4 auto trans is starting to delay, shifting from 1st to 2nd. I suspect your diagnosis is the problem I am having. Would this fix apply to the Accord automatic transmission too? BTW, my brother-in-law just bought an 05 Element auto w/313K miles. It’s runs quiet and shifts perfectly.
I replaced both of them I'm still dont get any!! Ok this what last I was driving my accord 03 v6 3.0 then just lost the shift gear I pull over the only shift takes place Parking but not the others shift! What did u think was wrong with it?
What about on 2015 Honda pilots? I've got vibration only on acceleration and a little hard shift on certain gears, but the gears changed after the dealer just did an update on it. They think it needs a new transmission, but I'm thinking not. It has been serviced regularly every 30k miles and had this issue when I bought it last year with only 90k miles on it
I have a 1983 Honda Accord (barn find) with 45,000 original miles. I changed the valve cover gasket recently, and when I finished, I found that I had (1) high rpm idle and (2) high rpm shifting. The car is a 4-speed automatic. I repaired a cracked vacuum line to the carburetor that fixed the high idle, but I still have a high rpm shifting. The fluid level is fine, and the fluid is red. Do you know if this 1.8-liter engine has a vacuum line from the intake manifold to the transmission? And does it have a modulator valve? Any added info about what could be causing this will be appreciated. Thanks
Do these shift solenoids also engage the transmission into Park? My CRV is stuck in some high gear or totally shot (slipping really bad) and it won't engage park.

I Have a 92 Nissan Pickup D21 Automatic Transmission. One morning I was pulling out of my drive way and shifted into R really fast and then I couldn’t move forward or backward, I reved it and nothing. Problem is that Im able to “shift” through the gears on the column shifter but the truck does not move forward (D,2,1) or in Reverse. I rev it and nothing. I checked the PNP/Inhibitor switch and it is fine since it only let me turn over my truck in P & Neutral. I checked the linkage & everything is intact. ATF fluid is topped off.
Good luck
Thank you , your explanation was very clear and easy to follow , it realy help me with my issue I'm having with my Ridgeline very similart to yours.
My 2007 Honda Pilot doing this from first to second gear until it gets real warm in winter, but ok in summer. I'll tell my boys about your video.
Thanks👍🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hi, did you ever had the chance to do this procedure? My 07 pilot is kind of shifting a little hard when the engine and transmission are cold. It goes away after 20 of driving thanks.
Great video, thanks! I have already picked up some solenoids from a junk yard as I had tried cleaning mine out but to no avail. Now I can check the solenoids before fitting. Hopefully that's the issue - sounds similar to your problem.
whats the intro song name
I’m having the same problem with my CR-V 04 but my has 249,000 miles it may be that is really old but I will try it ASAP, first time someone explain exactly what I need (I’m going to subscribe to your channel right now 💯)
Thanks for this information.
Hello...
Can you please help me?
Can i use 8th gen honda accord 2.4L automatic shift solenoids in 7th gen accord
The solenoids here for 7th gen accord are rarely available...
But the 8th gen are easily available.
Both solenoids appear the same but their connecting sockets are litte bit different and their part number are different too..
My transmission also from 1st to 2nd with some slipping and a jerk sound
(Sorry for my bad english)
Thank you for sharing this video. My 07 Honda pilot just developed this issue, it shifts a little hard from 1st to 2nd but only happens when the engine and transmission are cold. After 20 minutes of driving it goes away.
Good information. Thanks for taking the time to post. Much appreciated.
wow thanks, I changed my transmission solenoid yesterday to a new one and its now worse, so im gonna try cleaning the old one and putting it back. didnt know those cylindrical pipes could come out. i'll be sure to clean those too
Great video! Im having a similar issue with rough shift from 1st to 2nd gear. I’m following your steps to a T and will report back.
what happened
Yo whats the report?
Thanks for your insight. Solved my issue. Great that guys like you share your knowledge to help others and take the time to record and explain @ no cost to me. Simply awesome. Keep it up! Thanks Again!!
Awesome video, very explanatory, you should do more on other topics...Marco, junkyard parts has nothing wrong, I have found treasures for my 2003 Element that would cost me way more money at the dealer. Be positive !! He went to the 2 shops to have 2nd a3rd opinions...Be kind!!!
Thank you so much, this video really help me solved the issue with my 2004 Accord with exactly similar problem with your vehicle that have been nagging me since I bought the car sometimes in may. there was really no code when ever I scanned it. It happened yesterday again and couldn't shift past gear 1 and so went searching on youtube.
Does ur car wont shift 1 to 2 gear? What ur car symptom?
Hi
Can you please help me
My 07 accord also does the same it slips from 1st to 2nd with also a jerk
Can i use 8th gen accord 2.4l automatic shift solenoids because
Here the solenoids for 7th gen accord are rarely available, but the 8th gen accord solenoids are easily available
Both 7th gen and 8th solenoids appear the same but their connecting sockets are little bit different and their part numbers are also different too
(Sorry for my bad english)
Awesome info saved me bunch of money to replace my 1999 crv solenoids. Got aome from the junk yard for $2 each for both
Excellent analysis of the problems ( solenoid and screens), only suggestion would be to show how battery (12v source) is connected; for the folks new at this.
you can use 9volt energizer battery for the test
Why so much dislikes? This is an absolute useful video! Thanks!
Probably from dishonest crooked mechanics.
Transmission shops
If you ended cancer you would get dislikes.
Nickolas Cage narrates.
Lol
awesome video, man!! thank u for uploading.
thanks for explaining so well, but could it also be the cause of my transmission not wanting to down shift properly when i brake ? (automatic trans)
Excellent video. Very useful information. Thanks.
Thanks for this, it confirmed my own diagnosis and just ordered an aftermarket solenoid via ebay for my CR-V, fingers crossed it works!
How did it work?
@@Dougarony When i started stripping it down, i found a broken wire on 2nf gear pressure switch - repaired that and all good since except the occasional haarsh shift. However i believe that is due to a bad ABS ECU/modulator and/or internally collapsed front brake flexi hoses
Thanks much.@@LairdScooby
Wow I'm glad I got this information I have a 1997 Honda Civic runs great it got caught in a flood they fixed it but a year later or so the transmission start doing exactly what you said I can get in it after 6 for a while and drive it around for about an hour then all of a sudden it won't shift I'll cut the car off could have back on it drives you need to do it again then if I leave it sitting for a long time to drive for about an hour I do believe it's a solenoid if you have a suggestion I would appreciate it thank you so much yes also I put my Honda Civic 1997 into the transmission shop they told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it I went to pick the car up and it drove for like 4 months and then it start doing it again same thing won't shift cut the car off put it back on drives then it does it again won't shift cuz the car off cut it on it drives bet the car sit for like two a week or two it drives for about an hour and then it'll start doing it again yes sir if you can't get back with me on your thoughts that car runs so good I'm going to give it to my 16-year-old daughter she's getting ready to get a license very dependable car I would like her to have it
Thx for your video, I picked up one sentence from it is that " Don't use the aftermarket solenoid", as I replaced the aftermarket one the transmission eve has a new delay shifting issue, so I clean the old one and put it back, my miss shifting problem fixed. thanks!
clark ioc ip I will try this, how about using ohms meter for diagnostic test? Just curious. Thanks
How to clean it can you please tell...
My 07 accord also have this shifting problem from 1st to 2nd gear
I have been fighting this problem on my 2011 Honda CRV since I bought it new. The dealer would run it on the computer and test drive it and say it was okay. My problem is intermittent on the 3 and 4 gear solenoid up shift. It sometimes won’t shift up into OD (4 gear) on flat ground. Now I can fix it myself. I was worried that I was going to be facing a transmission rebuild. My CRV only has 54,000 miles on it. Thank you!
I have a 2011 CRV LX with the same issue. Gonna give this a try.... today is feb 13, 2022 and I have approx 170k miles on mine.
@@richardcase1653 My 2011 CRV does it on flat ground and will not up shift to 4 th gear even if I take my foot off the throttle.
Thanks for teaching you awesome .
Did this work for you??
Did it work?
I was wondering if u could help I have 01 crv and it seems to have trouble going to second. If I drive it hard its fine. But I take it easy I have to feather the throttle for it to accelerate properly
Checking this out because my car seems to be shifting late and a little hard from 1-2 and 2-3. I have a 2007 element awd w/ 5speed auto. Is there a 4/5 solenoid to be aware of as well? Service manual doesn't seem to indicate so which has me puzzled because how else would the 5th gear engagement be controlled?
This is very helpful and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge 😊
Thanks…..Jim
PS…..I bought this car new, trans oil changed every 30k since new.
Wonderful info...Do you have any idea about Honda airwave 2005 CVT solenoid fixing..Thanks again
Great video.
Thanks
I have same problem at Honda stream..thank for your video
Mine, when driving with little pressure on the pedal, shifts and sounds like it's about to stall. It's as if when it goes from 2nd gear it jumps into 4th gear and that is making it feels that way.
Hello
Looking for some advice
My daughter's 1999 CRV dipstick was not on properly so she lost a lot of fluid and the car stopped moving at all in time.
I turned on to a street and I heard a loud pop and then grinding
I stop and put it in park and nothing. What a mean is there was not park or any gear. The shifter was free no resistance. Mind you Iprior to that i have not had any problem at all with transmission. COULD IT BE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE ?
Thanks for sharing this valuable information.
Should we replace the pressure sensor also ?if it is not shifting well
Nice video, thanks. Do you have an idea if bad solenoid could be the problem with hard shifting into reverse. I had problems shifting from 1 to 2 when the e fine is cold, but works okay when hot. I replaced the solenoid as you describe and that seem improved. The reverse still hard to shift to sometimes.
Did you fix the problem ? How you did it
Would this work on most Honda/Acura transmissions built before 2015?
With if I got one rod stuck and had to drill it out would that mass my transmission up
Will i have to drain the transmission fluid before changing this or is it above the reservoir level? is it high enough up that i can remove it without making a mess if i don't drain the fluid?
Thanks
veriy clear video 100 percent good thx
Do these shift solenoids also engage the transmission into Park? My CRV is stuck in some high gear or totally shot (slipping really bad) and it won't engage park.
Hi there. Excellent video. Just wanted your advise. My honda accord cl9 shifts from 1st to 2nd almost like a cvt.the car is a bit sluggish compared to other cl9s. The car has done 180,000kms. Do you think checking and cleaning these solenoids might make the shift crisper, more pronounced
Was your element making irracted noise when shifting from 1 to 2nd? Mine making crazy irract grind noise bit feel find
Thanks I really believe this is my problem! Now I have to find the parts

I was thinking possibly:
• Loose or dirty connections.
• Bad Torque converter shift solenoid
• TCM (TRansmission control module)
Has had the issue for a year... Any idea what it might be?
Good day. Sir do u have any more of the transmission solenoid ? I have a 2004 Honda Element and have the same problem.
Just curious the symptoms you were having on that 1-2 2-3 shift. I’ve got inconsistent shifting between those ratios. 1-2 hangs and kinda pulls as it shifts. Feels like a solenoid, but curious if you were having similar issues. Thanks!!
Any reason you need to remove them to check the sound?
What about a transmission that likes to shift to 2nd gear way too soon? I feel like I have to slam the pedal to the floor to make it downgear to first

On our crv it goes 1st 2nd then when you get too 40mph it loses power is this because it's not shifting up and we are unable to use the cruise control as it tends to shut this function down. Any advice appreciated chap's
Is it possible to check without release it from the main matic body ?

If the transmission lock down and wouldn't get out of park. What part would that be that needs replacement or fix? Please help, thank you
Great video, full of practical knowledge, thank you! My 2006 CrV is shifting normally with no error codes, it’s just leaking slowly. Honda dealer said it needs a new shift solenoid and they want CAD $800 for repair and fluid flush. Can I just replace the gasket and o rings, and am I gonna loose a lot of transmission oil? Thanks
Just removed mine. About a cup of fluid.
manmadeofCO2 Thanks!
A very small amount of fluid leaks out, You just need to have one quart of Honda ATF. Just be sure to use the Honda Brand.
What ur car symptom?
Can this be tested with it still mounted to the transmission? I have a civic and the connection is accessible.
My 2007 civic shifts normally on cold starts but shifts roughly on the 1st to 2nd when the engine warms up. No transmission codes. Could it be the solenoid?
Would this work the same for a 2006 rsx base model ?
