I agree. Like most Genesis fans I adored Peter Gabriel and was heart-broken when he left the band. But Phil Collins has to be one of the most talented, versatile and hard-working rock musicians ever ... and in Genesis he totally filled the void Peter left behind IMHO.

I'm with you Freya. I was a Genesis fan for almost 20 years and the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was my least favourite album. But this track just gets me every time.
To add some historical context to this gorgeous song ... it was on the double album Lamb Lies Down on Broadway in 1974. Back then, double albums were not the norm ... thank god, because they cost half a week's wages for most music fans. I was a huge Genesis fan and I went without food the week I bought that album ... and to this day Carpet Crawlers is the only track I liked on it.

I have been privileged to see two of their concerts live including the Manchester concert on this tour. I also have seen live concerts of Floyd, Coldplay and a number of other top artists...But without doubt this final concert from Rome best encapsulates the true genius that is Genesis culminating in the final song that has brought a tear to the eye. Thank you all for the music of my life!
It is a true art, if you can create out of nothing a song that can touches your heart, grabs you by the throat, gives chicken skin and gives a tear in my eyes. That, dear people is art. These people are ARTists.
Obrigado, Genesis!
Thank you, Genesis. This song transports us to an imaginary, magical time, of a sweetness taken from the candor of the children of Earth, equates a distance that there will be no words that can cover it. (Martz Inura)

Thank you Britain for providing such fantastic musical creations for over at least 6 decades to us all over the world! If you thought this version was good, you've gotta check out the 1976 version. It will blow you away. Check out how young Phil looked in that video. He actually had a full head of hair. Also take note on who was on drums....none other than the man himself...Bill Bruford.
I saw Phil Collins in the fall of 2019. He did the show sitting down because his health had deteriorated so bad. I thought oh no this isn't gonna be very good. I was wrong. It was unreal. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
It's sad seeing Phil looking so frail but he is still such a consummate showman. He's been performing since he was a kid and must be the most hardworking rock musician ever ...
@@stephencoxfishkeeper959 I'm with you there Stephen. I get tearful every time I look in the mirror and see a 65-year-old with multiple health "issues" instead of the healthy 22-year-old I used to be. Life's a b***h, as they say. xx
I saw him in fall of 2019, too, and it was the best night of my life. It was hard to see him sitting down throughout the show because of his health, but it didn't affect his ability to put on a magnificent performance. You got that right cindi and by the way I love the way you spell your name it means you are one of a kind...
always and forever one of their best songs....
I think an unnecessary ir in your comment.
True story!
I'm with you Freya. I was a Genesis fan for almost 20 years and the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was my least favourite album. But this track just gets me every time.
That mood. I cry every time I hear this beautiful masterpiece... Chills and goosebumps... Its pure heaven with Phil's voice 💞
Back in NYC doesn't suck.
Equivoco total Suzy Q334❤
Quelle " magnifique voix" ! .......................J'adore ! Génésis ................mon groupe !Wonderful !
Thank you ..tony banks , mike Rutherford & the magnificent phil collins...for making this difficult life..a lil better
Richard Solis Peter Gabriel And Steve Hackett
Yes.
Richard Solis tro sensuel jadore
Beautiful comment Richard Solis. This old rock chick concurs. Stay safe, take care. xx
@@radamantedellaviverna6690 Hackett walked away very early on. Tony, Mike and Phil stayed and Daryl Steumer filled the void left by Hackett magnificently.
Tra 4 settimane compirò 65 anni
Grato ai Genesis per questa musica
Hanno accompagnato la mia vita. Sono decenni che li ascolto. Non mi stancherò mai di ascoltarli. Grazie.😂😂😂😂😂😂 Fantastici.
Omg! What a classic!
Phil and Genesis. Absolutely fantastic. Love forever.
It is a true art, if you can create out of nothing a song that can touches your heart, grabs you by the throat, gives chicken skin and gives a tear in my eyes. That, dear people is art. These people are ARTists.
Just because of this excellent performance by Phil, it is a must to love him 😍
One of the best songs in the history and in my top 10 of all times ❤️
The most amazing concert of Genesis ever. Thank you, guys!!!
Fully agree
Thank you, Genesis. This song transports us to an imaginary, magical time, of a sweetness taken from the candor of the children of Earth, equates a distance that there will be no words that can cover it. (Martz Inura)
Seen them 9 times. My favorite band. Just turned 65 and watch these videos at least once a week
One of the greatest Song in music history !!!
The most fantastic band ever I’m 57 they will never be beaten x
This is what can be called "the real common wealth" of the Great Britain with the whole world! Thank you Britain for providing such fantastic musical creations for over at least 6 decades to us all over the world! Music to dance, dream, and even to make love to, as well as to cry with sometimes; and that in so many different genres, directions and styles from innumerous musical talents! I'm so very happy to have been born into such an era and to have experienced all of this!
Me too ❤
Heard this song today on the radio again by coincidence, decades later.
So grateful for this masterpiece. Thank God for you Genesis. This song means the world to me.
This song is a moving hymn to life, its tenderness will spring from all sources on Earth. Thank you, Genesis. (Martz Inura)
So beautiful... seems music from another planet. Touches one's very soul.
Remember seeing Genesis 73 at Newcastle City Hall and Phil sang ' more fool me ' and as a kid wished he would pull it off and he did. Thanks Phil and God Bless you my man
The soundtrack to my entire life ❤
Thank God I have actually lived through the best music ever...God only knows what will be left 40 years from now...😫
Man. What a story you have! Glad to hear that you had refuge. Music saves lives! I hope your parents and your family persevered through all of that. God bless!
Been listening to genesis all my life now in my fifty’s, Peter, Tony, Mike, Phil, Steve. This is music and an out of this world group
That was the glory days of Genesis. Those five guys made some beautiful music together
CHE SOUND!!!!
SEMBRA DI STARE IN UNA FIABA.
L' ASCOLTO DAL 1978 ED È SEMPRE UNA GIOIA PER IL CUORE E PER L ANIMA.
GRAZIE GENESIS !! AVETE CONTRIBUITO A RIEMPIRE LA MIA VITA .
Obra-prima do Genesis! Saudações do Brasil a todos!
This man was one of the VERY BEST!!!
This is the best live version of this song ever!
If you thought this version was good, you've gotta check out the 1976 version. It will blow you away. Check out how young Phil looked in that video. He actually had a full head of hair. Also take note on who was on drums....none other than the man himself...Bill Bruford.
@@spd1214 ...the man himself is indeed Bruford...extraordinary musical mind for the kit...
People wonder what great music is. This is it, no question…..
Wonderful masterpiece of The lamb lies down on Broadway.
@@SuzyQ334 damn right, age catches up with us. It is tearful seeing him like this. 😢
@@stephencoxfishkeeper959 I'm with you there Stephen. I get tearful every time I look in the mirror and see a 65-year-old with multiple health "issues" instead of the healthy 22-year-old I used to be. Life's a b***h, as they say. xx
@@SuzyQ334 I'm with you brother. Tear in my eye thinking about my early years. Such great days. And the music.....
I saw him in fall of 2019, too, and it was the best night of my life. It was hard to see him sitting down throughout the show because of his health, but it didn't affect his ability to put on a magnificent performance. I'm too young to have seen him live in the 80s and 90s, which I wish I could have done. He will always be my favorite vocalist.
i was very suprised back in 2007 hearing them.....so good after all this years !! Worldclass.....one of the biggest bands in music history......as i always said.....talented, genius, because they never came out of tv shows, they learn their music on the streets, listen to the greats of the early 70th....these bands do not exist today and will not....the good old times.....love you guys !!
chef d'oeuvre
The Carpet Crawlers typifies all that's the very best of GENESIS early music. Totally brilliant. Even now all their early music still sounds great. True music LEGENDS.
Beautiful version. Phil's lower register is so warm yet so sinister.
This is a real masterpiece, Genesis is the best Band Ever!
And Phil is the best and greatest musician in the world!
🤘🏻✌🏻🎵🥁❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
he is a great musician for sure
I totally agree!!
A bit OTT in saying that dude Peter Gabriel had a wider range and probably an overall better singer.
I Agree, my absolute Favorite band since High school too. ❤🎶🎼
Favorite Genesis song of all time. Phil’s vocals on this version bring goosebumps and tears every time I listen to it!!
Carpet Crawlers ....a very moody , mystical, dreamy song puts you in another head space love it .
Wonderful, great version . Memories, takes me back
so beautiful phill that voice 😭😭😭
