I'am now 62 years old, and when I hear this song, I get some little tears in my eyes, this good old time will never come back... 😥😥😥
It will come back every time you listen to these masterpieces!
Very true. Luckily we still have these (digital) memories. It is in my car on endless-repeat

Idem dito
I regonize it. For me te same
I have seen Genesis 14 times, the last being their show at Madison Square Garden December 5, 2022 with my twins on their 28th birthday. We all cried when this song was played. How lucky are we to have Genesis in our lives.
Yes. I remember seeing Genesis Invisible Touch Tour at Wembley in July 1987. We had all just done our A levels and left school. Then I saw Phil Collins ( solo) in Madrid in 1994. What a showman he was. I can't think of many who could own the stage like he could, other than maybe Freddie Mercury!
I sometimes wonder if these guys, and Yes, Floyd, ELP, Zeppelin etc realise how much their music has meant to people. The soundtrack to their lives. The emotions connected to the songs. Growing up with them. Growing old with them. I am so grateful that I have lived in a time when I was surrounded by this beautiful music.
Yep Geoff - agreed.
Absolutely. I feel sorry for the kids now with the type of music in the charts!
A golden era in music indeed, if I could replay a time in my life knowing what I know now it would be the late 60’s through to mid ‘80’s, halcyon days!
I’d sure like to think so, Geoff…
Yep ... me too. My life was pretty rubbish on the whole but the music that was around back then kept me alive and sane.
I am passed 60 years old now..., I was 14 years old when I first heard this song ..., so , yes.., I too cry whenever I hear it now..., xx
Me too ❤
Me, too.
Its not Music.....its a Dream of sensitivity
❤
Genesis! My favorite band of all time. Carpet crawlers gives me chills
Isn’t life so much better with Genesis in it? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Especially when Phil sang this classic tune and makes you want to sing along but not with Gabriel's version
@@scotttrainor5660 Mine too
Always Loved Genesis to '80, this always gives me goosebumps.
Almost brings a tear to my eye this song. Must be an age thing LOL
Even if I'm just 14 years old, I love Genesis music and I listen to these masterpieces everyday. I'm so grateful my dad made me discover Genesis!
Thx Dad
@@kennethbull1292 Ditto Cool Dad 🕊
I loved sharing music with my children and with 6 their taste were ... enlightening to say the least.
I'm still the cool music mom to them. Now it's their time with children 💌 🎶
You are a lucky young man to have a dad like that. It is not the mainstream music. even back then. Genesis I only saw twice. in the 70s. Yes and they are my favorites. You would have loved the atmosphere of the concerts back then. I am 66 and still listen, Carpet Crawlers here one of my favorites. Try to go back to Trespass, Nursery Cryme, and Foxtrot. Very early. Even more out of the mainstream. My personal favorite old classic Genesis is Selling England By The Pound. 🙂
@@theresapezzotta7600 my favorite song is supper’s ready and my favorite albums are selling England by the pound and the lamb lies down on broadway
Arthur Centrocampist My favorite old Genesis is Selling England... Love Lamb...Then There were Three is great too. Actually Genesis is great as a group with Gabriel and Collins and they both were great as solo artists which shows their tremendous talent.
It touches me very much. As a middle-aged guy and a Genesis fan since childhood, I am grateful that this wonderful music has been the soundtrack of my life.
You have to hear Peter Gabriel sing this. Phil is good but PG imo is a different level.🎤👌
@@mrduffin1663He has a "ruder" vocal tone, he's perfect for this beautiful song! But Phil with his voice in the background is so good too
Same
Genesis is the only band that compels me to sing spontaneously every time... simply stunningly beautiful
As I listen to this, I’ve just returned from a Genesis Concert on their Last Domino tour in Buffalo, NY. They closed the show with song. Despite Phil’s current physical condition, the song sounded remarkably the same as this version. It was a mix of emotions knowing it is likely the last song I will ever hear them do live.
Going tonight in Philly 12/3/21 possibly the last I’ll see them, I Philly anyway.
I'll be seeing them in Boston next week.. Genesis was my first arena show in 1984.. and this may be my last..
I was there…on the floor, 29th row.
I was at the Charlotte show. High asf
😭😭😭
He still sings as he is young.. hits every tone. Incredible
"Growing up with them. Growing old with them."
The best comment!
My parents were violet alcoholics towards each other. Genesis and Phil Collins music were put on headphones and I played the drums to their stuff, while my parents beat each other up. Genesis is more of a family to me than my actual siblings. This band is one of the most important things in my life... they were my crutch..
I totally get you! Sorry you went through that. I did too in a different way but alcoholic violence is the same no matter what. Genesis was an anchor in my messed up world too! Peace to you!
Sorry too hear this believe me.
you will go stronger trouth it, as you can imagine ! Believe in God !
I am very touched by your frankness and testimony. Peace to you.
So sorry for your pain
I will never forget how this song made me feel when I listened to it for the first time. I was spellbound, it was magic, a dream world - and I was so lucky to be with a wonderful boy , we kissed and it was one of the most beautiful moments in my life....back in 1975..
Forty years on and still sends shivers down my spine in true Genesis style!! Absolute epic track from an equally epic album!!
My favorite band for such many years. Since 1977. I love Genesis.
Almost 50 years and still one of my favorites. Peter or Phil. ❤❤ Since Trespass, Foxtrot, Nursery Chryme for me.
One of the most beautiful songs ever !
Magic , marvelous lyrics and divine melody !
And he singing is the best thing !
Wonderful !
Yessssssss
Yes, perfection! Any song Phil touches vocally reaches a divine realm: simply beautiful, elegant, moving! « Squonk » is another masterpiece , haunting melody and vocal tour de force from magician Collins! Thanks Phil❤
Genesis: part of the magic-cannot omit outstanding musicians: Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks(organ), Chester Thompson! All powerful instrumentalists with vocalist Phil Collins! Can’t go wrong! Thanks all
My high-school boyfriend, Scott Spiegel, turned me on to Genesis, Peter Gabriel/Phil Collins in 1977. He was an extremely fan. Ever since then, me too! I will forever love "Carpet Crawlers". Deeply personal to me. My love for him and Genisis still exists!
I agree
Stolz darauf, die alten Zeiten mit Genesis erlebt zu haben, unbezahlbar❤
I was there ... unforgettable night!!! even today my eyes are shining with emotion! Thank you Genesis!!!
Oh how great for you! I wish I had been there.
An absolute masterpiece. Phil Collins sings this so perfectly. Absolutely perfect. It could not be any better. 💕👌
Yep ... totally agree Audrey. I still have a soft spot for Peter Gabriel but truth is, Genesis survived him leaving the band thanks to fabulous Phil.
Linda musica ! Toca profundamente nosso ❤!
Oh...Gabriel is up to date the best performer of his song, but Mr. Collins didn't do it as bad as i expected it! It' s really a good version, but not the best!
@@elduderino5270 I heard live performances of Peter singing this song, much worse than Phil here.
@@khbohl Me too, but the original one is the best up to date and who was the singer? Yes: Peter Gabriel! The Last tour i saw (2004?) was so bad…it was depressing…only one hour and these hour was bad and expensive!
Phil sings this brilliant gem so effortless
I have to say that Phil has put on a great performance here...I've always been a Peter lover but here I have to admit how good Phil is :)
I was at the Manchester show and said exactly the same. Phil gave it his best shot and was pretty darn good!❤️
I agree. Like most Genesis fans I adored Peter Gabriel and was heart-broken when he left the band. But Phil Collins has to be one of the most talented, versatile and hard-working rock musicians ever ... and in Genesis he totally filled the void Peter left behind IMHO.
Adoro i Genesis da quando avevo 16 anni... Mille emozioni, mille ricordi...
Phil kept Genesis going after PG left. And as much as I loved PG I love Phil more because he has stuck around.
amigos outros tempos outras visoes musica eternizada pelo genesis anos 70 PHIL SENSACIONAL .quem.nao viveu esta epoca jamais ira entender o.progressivo
Appreciate how Tony Banks flawlessly plays quadruplets on the piano as a continuum. Awesome!
So true. It seems he doesn’t get recognized as much.... I think he is a master of the piano.
Omg! I love this. As an old Genesis fan who adored Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins is the best. xx
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Genesis is part of me. Lucky enough to see them on their last ever show March '22'. Oh I did cry very emotional. Thank you Genesis for the best ever music.
I was there.. The people the place and the band were fantastic thank you for ever for this masterpiece
You have something to cherish forever...You were part of the best!
Was there as well and was hoarse the next 3 days from singing and yelling, the 2007 Turn it on Again Tour and what a Tour it was and a classic tune for their encore
Fuiste afortunado hno.
Phil Collins kept Genesis alive. Love you Phil. xx
To add some historical context to this gorgeous song ... it was on the double album Lamb Lies Down on Broadway in 1974. Back then, double albums were not the norm ... thank god, because they cost half a week's wages for most music fans. I was a huge Genesis fan and I went without food the week I bought that album ... and to this day Carpet Crawlers is the only track I liked on it.
I was listening to this song in 1979 when I graduated high school. I love the song because he sings with devotion.
I have been privileged to see two of their concerts live including the Manchester concert on this tour. I also have seen live concerts of Floyd, Coldplay and a number of other top artists...But without doubt this final concert from Rome best encapsulates the true genius that is Genesis culminating in the final song that has brought a tear to the eye. Thank you all for the music of my life!
Oh Phil why did you make such terrible choices in your love life?
I hope you get better, you are irreplaceable. I feel so much gratitude towards you and Genesis. The music of my life!
The greatest band that i ever saw !! Who could ever top Genesis .. There will never be another !!!!👍👍
Marillion for me come very very close..but I agree Genesis are one of the best bands of all time..every member being a legend..
This Band was forever destroyed, as Peter Gabriel had to leave this Band.
After that their Songs became more and more pop Music.

@@tomevoli9244 no I don't think they were ruined when gabriel left I actually liked Collins voice better than gabriel is just my opinion every one has one.
You are perfectly right.
@Amanda Booth Couldn't agree more and in my opinion it was meant to be Gabriel going solo and Phil taking over as front man.
I am so glad I got to see Genesis live. Hands down the best and most influencial band for me!
People on RUclips always say "this band/singer/guitarist is so underrated," but in Phil Collins' case it's absolutely true. He belongs on any Rock's Greatest Singers list, but rarely is mentioned for that
When I’m feeling disconnected, this connects me to emotions I’ve blocked out.
Same here.
Very nicely expressed.. Exactly how I feel.
One of the best songs in the history and in my top 10 of all times ❤️
This song is so beautiful ….. Phil’s voice and the band !!!!!!!! Omgggggggg 💥💥😘😘
❤
❤❤❤
I just discovered this song last week and for the life of me, I can NOT get it out of my head. I WAKE UP singing it in my head! It's almost SCARY, but this has happened to me before with a couple of Temptations songs I'd never heard before. I've heard a lot of versions, and I can't decide which one I think is best. I will say ONE thing though, Steve Hackett's guitar playing on it sounds better than Mike Rutherford's to me. I love the Peter Gabriel version, but Phil just killed this one with a bit more melodic nuance, so I'm a bit stuck. I'm about to listen to the whole of "The Lamb Lies On Broadway" after I Google The Thirteenth Floor Elevators, because this song reminds me of them, for some reason. I think it's because I'm almost positive I've heard Roky Ericsson say the phrase "Mild Mannered Supermen" before Peter Gabriel. ✌🏾
You got that right cindi and by the way I love the way you spell your name it means you are one of a kind...
Wonderful masterpiece of The lamb lies down on Broadway.
Beautiful version. Phil's lower register is so warm yet so sinister.
This song is a moving hymn to life, its tenderness will spring from all sources on Earth. Thank you, Genesis. (Martz Inura)
Thank you, Genesis. This song transports us to an imaginary, magical time, of a sweetness taken from the candor of the children of Earth, equates a distance that there will be no words that can cover it. (Martz Inura)
One of the greatest Song in music history !!!
Gott sagte mal das er Genesis gute Lieder singen lässt, die bis heute nicht ihren Klang verloren haben ❤❤❤
So beautiful... seems music from another planet. Touches one's very soul.
This is what can be called "the real common wealth" of the Great Britain with the whole world! Thank you Britain for providing such fantastic musical creations for over at least 6 decades to us all over the world! Music to dance, dream, and even to make love to, as well as to cry with sometimes; and that in so many different genres, directions and styles from innumerous musical talents! I'm so very happy to have been born into such an era and to have experienced all of this!
Carpet Crawlers ....a very moody , mystical, dreamy song puts you in another head space love it .
I was fortunate enough to have seen Genisis whenthey toured in 2007 at Madison Square Garden. A good friend's company had a box at the garden and gave me two tickets for the show. My wife, not being a big Genisis fan, opted out so I took my 16 year old son. This was his first real concert seeing a band he would not normally have seen. He is now in his 30's and has moved several hours away. has a great job but we don't see him nor speak very often. This was one of their encore songs that evening.and everytime I hear it now, I get filled with emotion. This song always evoked an emotion but now it seems moreso because of that evening I saw them with my son.
i was very suprised back in 2007 hearing them.....so good after all this years !! Worldclass.....one of the biggest bands in music history......as i always said.....talented, genius, because they never came out of tv shows, they learn their music on the streets, listen to the greats of the early 70th....these bands do not exist today and will not....the good old times.....love you guys !!
This is a real masterpiece, Genesis is the best Band Ever!
And Phil is the best and greatest musician in the world!
🤘🏻✌🏻🎵🥁❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
he is a great musician for sure
I totally agree!!
A bit OTT in saying that dude Peter Gabriel had a wider range and probably an overall better singer.
I Agree, my absolute Favorite band since High school too. ❤🎶🎼
Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Chester Thompson, Daryl Stuermer, monsters...
Genesis forever 😍
This is the best live version of this song ever!
If you thought this version was good, you've gotta check out the 1976 version. It will blow you away. Check out how young Phil looked in that video. He actually had a full head of hair. Also take note on who was on drums....none other than the man himself...Bill Bruford.
@@spd1214 ...the man himself is indeed Bruford...extraordinary musical mind for the kit...
I saw Genesis live in july 2007, at the Gerland Stadium, Lyon, France. I was in the audience with my son and my auntie.
They ended the show with that song.
I saw my auntie cry.
Now, this is me who cries when I hear it.
The most amazing concert of Genesis ever. Thank you, guys!!!
Fully agree
The Carpet Crawlers typifies all that's the very best of GENESIS early music. Totally brilliant. Even now all their early music still sounds great. True music LEGENDS.

Erst im Abstand der Jahre wird einem bewusst wie gut diese Musik war und immer noch ist. Genesis war eine der innovativsten Band der siebziger und achtziger Jahre
Não existe palavras para expressar o sentimento e emoção, que esta música traz. Obra-prima do Genesis! Uma das minhas músicas favoritas. Pra mim, ela só pode ter vindo das estrelas! Saudações do Brasil a todos!
Seen them 9 times. My favorite band. Just turned 65 and watch these videos at least once a week
Been listening to genesis all my life now in my fifty’s, Peter, Tony, Mike, Phil, Steve. This is music and an out of this world group
That was the glory days of Genesis. Those five guys made some beautiful music together
Genios.
This man was one of the VERY BEST!!!
Dear Phil Collins, don't be sad. You have lived for 70 years, but you will have lived 700. One day that you die, that takes a long time, you will never be forgotten, throughout the Universe you will hear echoes of your passage, splendors of your hot and sweet energy, honoring you for having left us a better world. (Martz Inura)
always and forever one of their best songs....
I think an unnecessary ir in your comment.
True story!
I'm with you Freya. I was a Genesis fan for almost 20 years and the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was my least favourite album. But this track just gets me every time.
Saw this show twice. Was blown away that they chose this song as the closer. I think a lot of fans accuse the guys of ignoring the old stuff as if it never existed. The decision to close with this song told me that they really did create this setlist with the works they were most proud of.
Il loro ultimo saluto a l'Italia... Paese che li porterà per sempre nel cuore. Indimenticabili Genesis ❤️
Peccato!! Sono, ingegneri della musica. Non quella di oggi; che lo considero: puro, rumore.. Luigi.b.

This is what you get with superior songwriting performed by original participants being together for more than 2 decades. Perfection.
I saw Phil Collins in the fall of 2019. He did the show sitting down because his health had deteriorated so bad. I thought oh no this isn't gonna be very good. I was wrong. It was unreal. One of the best shows I've ever seen.

Put the cassette he loaned me in on the drive home. He was right. I fell head over heels w Genesis. YES, E.L.O , Moody Blues, Floyd, Ten years After , Emerson, Lake and Palmer etc. Etc.
....A wall of sound, excellent musicians , awesome songs and and song writing. I was just playing 3 chord guitar songs. Then I learned to play keyboards and learned major 7ths, .minors, all self taught. Learned Carpet Crawlers, and lucky man and 100s more. Best thing that ever happened to me musically. It was the beginning of a 50 yr mostly solo 2nd job as a singer, musician!!! All because of that 2nds out casette!!!Thanks Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Keith Emerson, Jon Anderson, Jeff Lynne. I played mostly solo, guitar and keys. Because everybody thought that kind of music was too difficult to play and complicated. Wrong. Same 12 notes, and hundreds of chords.
