  • In this video I showcase why ProRes 4k 60fps is amazing in the new iPhone 15 Pro. I show you how the phone reacts when an ssd is plugged in the iPhone 15 Pro and walk you through the work flow Apple had in mind while creating this feature. Please leave a comment if you have any questions.

    To help with exposure I’ve started to preserve my settings in settings > camera > preserve settings and turn on for Exposure Adjustments. Then on the camera app you tap on the EV comp on the top to right and I keep mine at -0.3 normally to -0.7 on brighter days. It doesn’t always stop the auto exposure changes that the camera does but it helps a bit from them completely blowing out footage mid recording.

    If you have Davinci Resolve, you can use the Color Space Transform or Color Management to get from Apple Log to whichever delivery format you want (Premiere doesn't have it yet, but FCP X also has this transform).
    If you use BlackMagic Camera you can load a LUT (I think for Preview). Also BlackMagic Camera lets you choose other ProRes format like LT, which is not quite as hard on storage.
    I think BlackMagic Camera should also provide the setting for Apple Log (haven't gotten my 15 pro max yet to test)

    • @MichaelJohnsonProductions
      @MichaelJohnsonProductions  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for the heads up. Someone else mentioned Blackmagic camera in the comments and I downloaded it. Havent had that much time to play with it but it looks pretty awesome.
      Also thanks for the heads up as well with the Devinci Resolve and FCP color space transform. I'll have to try that out. I can at least get the footage transformed back to rec 709 and go from there in Premiere.

    • @MaximoJoshua
      @MaximoJoshua 9 месяцев назад

      @@MichaelJohnsonProductions yeah exactly, you might also want to apply any other creative looks after doing the accurate color correction. Take advantage of that extra dynamic range the log profile buys you.
      But, you can also probably do the entire color correction in less than a minute of setting up project settings + render time ,can even do it on an iPad.
      Oh, last thing, you can export from Davinci into Premiere XML? Not sure if that is relevant, or you can just take the footage as graded ProRes.
      Great videos! inspired me to get out there and shoot some stuff!

      If you have some sort of phone with average or good camera, get dji osmo mobile and start working on composing shots, editing and so on, push on quality and versatility can come later when your skill will grow. It's obvious that cameras with changeable lens are better in versatility, but they are crap if you dont have skills to use them (developed earlier). Question, I recorded 4k60 ProRes onto a 256Gig thumb drive and the footage is pretty jittery when panning around. Any idea what can be causing it? I recoded 4k30 ProRes onto the device and it was super smooth.

    • @MichaelJohnsonProductions

      Yeah sounds like your thumb drive is not fast enough. You need an actual SSD that can read and write 1000 MB/s

    Additional, don't expect the Sandisk PRO to work, the phone USB is not giving enough power! Go with Shield 7, it requires less watt, 2 TB, no problem

    • @MichaelJohnsonProductions
      @MichaelJohnsonProductions  9 месяцев назад

      Heck yeah. Thanks for the tip. I have the Sandisk pro but havent tested it with the iPhone. I wont even bother. What you are saying makes a lot of sense. I'll keep using the normal ones I have then.

    • @Richard_GIS
      @Richard_GIS 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@MichaelJohnsonProductions for sure. The pro need 7 watt and the 'normal' ones (not pro, shield) use 4,5 watt - something like that. And you can use the 7 watt by adding a dock/hub like belking 4 port usbc. That gives the USB port the juice the external ssd needs and charge the phone. For computers, the wattage is no problem.

    Why Premier Pro with a Mac Studio? Any benefits over Final Cut Pro?

    • @MichaelJohnsonProductions
      @MichaelJohnsonProductions  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes tons of benefits. I edit for TV. Discovery, NBC Sports and ESPN. All everyone uses in this industry is Premiere Pro. If I have to collaborate with other editors I can do that. Which I do all the time. Not a single actual professional uses Final Cut. Only RUclipsrs. Which there is nothing wrong with that. It's just not set up for really big projects.

    Hi Mr. Michael,
    Your 15 pro's storage is 128gb, isn't right?
    Then, if we are inclined to record video 4k in 128gb, will we need to connect with external SSD?
    How many recording options could we get such as 4k 24fps, 30fps or 60 fps?

    If you plan on shooting a lot in Pro Res, what memory would you recommend for the Iphone 15 Max? 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB? If everything is going to be put on an external drive, does it really matter?

    • @MichaelJohnsonProductions
      @MichaelJohnsonProductions  8 месяцев назад +2

      In my personal opinion it don’t matter. I would just recommend some iCloud storage for your home videos of family and normal recordings and photos you do. But for the high quality video you want to shoot I would record just using a ssd. No need for high storage on an iPhone anymore
