[SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 3 REVIEW]
Twenty years ago, it was tough to find a mobile phone in the US that wasn’t also a flip phone. Ten years ago those flips went out of style as the smartphone skyrocketed to mainstream dominance. Nearly two years ago, Motorola blended the two categories with its RAZR reboot. And today, Samsung has brought its own version of the neo-retro clamshell phone down to a price more palatable to more people. I’m Michael Fisher, and … I think I can finally say this: the flip phone is officially back. This is the MrMobile Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Review.

I know my camera samples were kind of limited on this video, folks - if you want to see more from the Z Flip 3's camera, check out my friend David Cogen's video of our trip to Governor's Island, over at TheUnlockr: ruclips.net/video/8M9ymDIh_A0/видео.html
No worries! For what it's worth, I'm not at the point where I want any flip phone. But I love what this phone means for them. A reasonable price like this makes things like "not the best" cameras and "not the best" battery life more than acceptable, because you're not paying for those things. You pay for the experience and $1000 is absolutely worth it.
@@MarkStudent Well said; I agree.
Now again phones are fun!!! Hopefully we will see again Nokia bringing back those crazy phones (wish). Still my Nokia 7.2 is also fun with the power button led!
@@MarkStudent that's exactly what I tell people, you're not buying these devices for their camera prowess, you're buying into the opportunity to be part of the foldable future, to stand out and to experience what life was like (sorry for the plagerism Micheal but I just can't help myself) when phones were fun 😁
Does this this phone work with trek total interface?
Even more so I would love to know if it works with the fold 3.
1996 - 2007: "That's such a cool flip phone"
2007 - 2021: "That's such a lame flip phone"
2021: "That's such a cool flip phone"
history repeats itself i guess
😂😂😂
I will always like those
2022, Maybe: "That's such a cool slide phone"
@@skycubix8943 still hoping for that modernized N95 or Communicator 😥
Fantastic video Michael!
Yes super nice video, enjoy watching it, but why ppl give dislike 😓🤔
hahahaha, great reviewer complimenting another great reviewer! Love it!
The reaction from the guy at the coffee shop/restaurant after seeing the Z Flip honestly put a smile on my face, very rarely do people notice any piece of tech like a phone in public like that!
It's amazing how often I get stopped in public thanks to the Fold / RAZR / Flip. I love it.
@@alolanstarboy I mean, I think I always wanted to live a life where people would stop me in public so we could nerd out about phones together. Foldables let me live that dream. lol
@@TheMrMobile absolutely! That one short clip of their reaction along with the more palatable price is really making me want to pull the trigger on a foldable now more than before honestly
Unless it's a blackberry of course. But I suspect it's more of a sympathetic smile
@@rantman6905 I don’t think it’s really bragging, he wasn’t shoving it in anyones face
Nailed this review, bud. Cheers to fun phones 🍻
Hey
Comprehensive and spot on as usual sir. Best in the game!
Thanks man! Great seeing you this week!
EDIT: Loved your TB-edition Fold unboxing too. Still jelly.
I tell you . This guy is 1 comprehensive tech reviewer 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
That Star Trek piece always funny to watch lol
Couldn't agree more.
Is the cover screen AODable?
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 takes us back to the past, namely an elegant and luxurious flip model.
Michael is one of the best tech reviewers, his video quality is like high budget movie series lol and for the Flip, all I can say that I agree that foldable phones are finally ready for mainstream market, I’m still waiting for the next flip with bigger battery tho
They arent but ok 👌
Cool name!
I agree keep it up Michael
They deserve to be on Netflix
Im waiting for the flip to bring back microsd cards and MST. Until they do that, im going to wait a year for the 1tb galaxy s10 plus to get cheaper and side grade to that
@1:12 Great podcast choice 😉
Awesome review as always my friend!
Hahaha
Your channel is dying just like his
Wait long enough a new turd appears in the toilet... and look, there you are @Es Kay
You hit the critical spots in a very balanced manner, Michael. God mode storytelling, as expected. And Yes, there might be some things that isn't polished or sacrificed in this generation, the price and the other upgrades can be a great factors that the foldables are taking the field in the right direction.
god, not God, God is only one, gods are a lot.
@@nickandro127 Even Satan is confused with this one.
@@nickandro127 fun fact: words are often capitalized after a period. Also who cares lol
God mode storytelling… wow…

as always, your scripting is top shelf! 👏
This guy is literally the best reviewer. His heart and soul is in the job.
Yeah he really like phones indeed.
Agreed!
@BARDLEG you lose at trolling.
Whenever I tell someone that I'm getting the Flip3 they always ask me, "Why not the larger fold?" I like small phones. I use an iPhone 12 Mini until tomorrow when I go to my local t-Mobile store to use my Jump plan early on a Z Flip 3 in black. I'm super excited to use it as I am a best buy employee and have messed with a few of our display models. I'm not a Samsung person but this phone might just be the one for me.
I also have the iPhone 12 Mini and bought the flip 3! It should be here tomorrow I hope. How are you liking it so far? I haven't used android since 2014 so kinda nervous
since you haven't used android in so long, spent an hour on youtube and watch as many tips and tricks videos for the flip 3. android and especially samsung ui has changed A LOT.
i have been using the flip 3 for a couple weeks now and i love it. my two minor complaints are battery life isn't great, but no where near as bad as the pixel 4 and i wish there was expandable storage.
@@Crazypeople246 update?
@@Crazypeople246 I’d like an update too…I’m scared to make the switch 😅
How was it?
The fact that none of the negatives are even related to the fact it's a foldable phone it's a great sign
We shall see. Let's see the long term review first. Don't let the market term "ultra thin glass" fool you, the screen is still plastic.
well they kinda are, camera and battery compromised are due to the lack of space, although camera it's also to save costs
@Akeelzzz the new screen protector is made of PET, the same plastic as soda and water bottles. You can’t really damage those with a fingernail either.
Well, the small battery is due to being a foldable. One could argue the weaker cameras are due to the extra packaging requirements too. But you’re right it’s not “the outside screen is useless” or “dirt gets in the hinge” or “where’s the fingerprint reader”.
Go see reddit
My flip 3 arrived today in the mail. Your constant interesting and unique content that pushes the boundaries of foldables and what they're capable of has convinced me. Thank you for being an incredible content creator that clearly values the experience they create and being a trusted member of the community. I'm extremely happy with my flip and my subscription!
Any durability issues?
@@Tommy-qe6fh No, the seam in the middle of the screen has held up with no issues. Battery is my only complaint, it’s mediocre. But if you can get over that it’s an amazing phone. At this point I would likely wait for this year’s refresh which will likely fix the issue, along with a better camera.
@@chronicmusiclistener5572 Dude that sounds so awesome
Can confirm amazingly fun phone, got mine for 350 less than retail on Amazon Germany if anyone's interested, for that price the sacrifices are so so so worth it
Lovely review, Michael! I’ve only got one question left…
“Tommy, have you seen this guys phone?!”
Don't leave us hanging, had Tommy seen it?
We demand an answer.
Michael’s reviews are so much informative, cinematic, and entertaining. Arguably one of the best in the industry.
"That's a f*****g flip phone???" PRICELESS
I’m seriously looking at this phone more affordable than the fold 3.
I want a small phone that fits into my small pockets but I also enjoy big phones for my ageist eyes.
This might tick the box
I can’t wait to use my T-mobile jump to grab this phone.
Do it!!
We all know that Michael is a huge fan of alliteration, as am I. That being said, I think that at times he does it completely subconsciously. But he does it all the same, and I appreciate it.
I know this video is a couple years old, but I love all of you who may read this. Take care.
At the cell store I manage, we have sold pretty much 0 foldables until this was announced. A lot of people are making the jump this time.
I cab understand that, almost anyone l know that wants to get one is waiting for it to get cheaper/have less problems
@@Naharu. Just bought a 5G razr for $500 from T-Mobile! Their having a sale go get one lol
@@thegeneral1955 I got one with that deal! Loved my first RAZR when I had it on Verizon, but hated how much Verizon wanted to charge just for 4G service. Love it so far!
Thank you for you honest and unabashedly optimistic review on this new flip phone. It's been ages since I even got excited about a flip phone. All the flaws and uncertainty. I may still hold off for another year as time will tell of these can hold up but your review and the design seem to have improved immensely.
I don’t care about the flaws as I always carry with me a portable charger and this is a massive upgrade for me from the iPhone X as far as l am concerned this phone is great & going back to android after 8 years will be a bit of a learning curve but it will be fun😀😀
One great benefit of being in the Android ecosystem is that you phone options like these rather than just a single form factor.
Amen to that.
@@voltare2amstereo Yeah, but I think they have that on iOS too. (With icloud or whatever it is called)
Samsung delivered mine on the 20th, and I'm loving it! Such a great lil phone
The script writing for this review was *chef's kiss* 🤌🏼 made me so into the video the whole time
I have the Moto RAZR and absolutely love it! Folding phones are definitely back.

How is he paying with it? What's that called?
@@LucidLando Probably Samsung pay through the NFC chip at the back of the phone
This whole video is filled with your passion about the phone sir, a presentation masterpiece!
Despite knowing battery isn't upto standards of my use case, I still went for Z Flip 3 (coming from iPhone 12) as iPhones doesn't excite me anymore, same old improvements with apple, a bit better camera here, slightly faster chip there. I'm honesty interested in the innovation which samsung is doing and R&D to fold the freakin glass. Lets see how it goes, it'll arrive next sunday as they are out of stock everywhere as demand have far exceeded samsung's expectations (atleast here in India).
Edit: I'll still keep my iPhone 12 as a backup phone though!
Flexing on other people is literally the only reason people to buy a foldable. Anyone who's smart, particle and mature won't bother.
My fold 3 arrives Friday. 💪
I feel like 1000$ is still a lot of money for a phone. I can’t believe we normalize this and even call it more “affordable”
Actor, writer, director, photographer, and, especially editor, Michael's reviews are the most polished on RUclips. Just a delight to watch. He should expand into short (feature) films.
what I really miss from clamshell phones is been able to clip them over a shirt/tshirt/coat pocket and been able to use the flash light as an improvised torch or as a hands free video camera or just a hands free call without the hassle of connecting a headset
We got these before you guys, Im in the UK and mine got delivered yesterday, and I can tell you its awesome. I've gone from the Z flip 5g so not a huge jump. But as you say, these are sooo much fun and such an eye catcher. They're certainly the future. love the videos as always by the way
Lucky you... here in Indonesia we have to wait until 10 sept. Meh
Sd888 for worldwide.
@@joenathanz7474 malaysia gotta wait until 22nd sept bruhhhhh
I appreciate it’s early days but would be interested to know your thoughts on how the battery life is. It’s the only thing stopping me from purchasing this awesome phone.
How did you get yours already? I'm in England and gotta wait til next Friday?
I will wait a year I think. If long term reviews show very little damage / screen cracking / battery issues etc, I will definitely pick one up. I imagine that in the next generation they will find a way to increase battery size and the outer display. I wonder if they will every make a folding mid-ranger, like an A-Series foldable? That would be awesome.
"that 7 hour battery life is awful!"
Me looking at 5-6 hours maximum use I got from every phone I had in latest 10 years ☹️
Are you talking screen time or actual time? Screen time of 5-6 hours good. Actual life of battery of 5-6 hours is... Well... I've never seen any phone that bad.
@@dansourile5444 my screen time IS my battery time. My phone is always on and has been like that for years. Although I don't game, I always have notes taking app on, Chrome on, RUclips in background, constantly checking my email. Isn't this sort of phone usage normal? What else ppl buy smartphones for?
me too!!
my screen on time is my standby time.
I often got 7 hours of last charge and 6 hour fo SoT etc and am I too greedy if I want more than that? :c
Don't forget the portable charger! LOL.
@@KOTYAR1 I'm confused. You never turn your screen off? Ever?
I can only trust you for a review because you aren’t just: “HeY tHiS iS a GoOd PhOnE 😻😍🥰😘😃😄😁😆” You are honest when you review a phone. AND I LOVE IT
This is actually the first Samsung phone I've wanted in a long long time.
My Flip3 gets here in two days and I couldn't be more excited. I'm upgrading from a Pixel 4.
Edit: It came in a day early. So far I absolutely love it.
Edit 2(1 month later): Since I'm not a power user, the battery life has been more than good enough for me. Hinge and screen are still 100%. Can now attest this is basically a magic trick to pull out at the bar.
How is it? 2 months on?
@@ZORIN-X It's still perfect. I'm probably never going back to a normal rectangle phone.
@@HiddenTigerObviNinja Is the battery as much of a problem as they say?
@@ZORIN-X It really isn't a problem in my opinion. With these last two updates the battery life has actually improved. I've noticed my background apps now draw less power.
It's been 6 months. How is the battery life. And how is the camera quality. I am confused if I should buy z Flip 3 or OnePlus 10 pro.
How can a phone review be this entertaining! ♡
That Nine Days screen transition with the audio commentary 😂😂
I have always been more of a Fold kind of guy rather than a Flip guy. But, this year, for a reason I can't quite put into words, I am in lov with the Flip 3.
That's exactly what I feel...
I don't know what to do !!!
Motorola is looking down on u.
I think they just nailed...it. I saw a different tech preview say exactly that, it just has an "it" factor.
I use a fold 2 and would never ever replace it with this but my work phone is a note 20ultra maybe if the flip screen was much larger it could take my galaxy20 ultra spot but they still have a long way to go but their headed in the right direction.
The Fold 3 just sucks, I'm not surprised at that decision. It's worse in pretty much every aspect than the Fold 2 but durability and that is still an open question.
Amazing review Michael! The scripting, editing, thoughtfulness, and genuine enthusiasm are always on point!
It's nice to see the industry building something other than Spec-monsters. Phones are starting to have personality. 🥰
I mean, this is still using the top spec SOC from Snapdragon... I'd say that still qualifies it as a spec monster.
I am currently re-rewatching your Z Flip related vids as I wait for the Z Flip that I ordered from GoogleFi... I will soon be rolling 2 folding phones, one for work and one for personal use... both will be rocking LCARS themes because that is the way...
No one reviews foldables like Mr Mobile! Thanks for this been waiting for it! 🙏🙏
I've been sceptical of foldables up until now, and coming from an S20+ there's no way I'm ever buying a phone that can't manage at least 8h of screen on time. But if they fix the battery life with the next generation, I could absolutely see myself buying this.
Been refreshing my subscription feed for days waiting for this review.
Can't wait for my flip 3.
Well, I bought and love it. The glass is much harder than I thought. I expected it to be like a Nokia from 2008 or so. Also a flip by the way...
Really impressed.
MrMobile videos tell an engaging story. You can expect ups and downs, plot twists and a satisfying end. That's why his reviews are the best!
I like how you review android, most creators will always compare the price to the phone if its android and not when its an iphone. Your review looks at every angle objectively.
You’ve got me seriously thinking about getting a flip smartphone next.
Just gimme more sensors so I can have a real life Tricorder.
And someone you can call up to transport you instantly to somewhere else. 😁

Great review! As a fellow Trekkie, I really loved all the Star Trek references!
I really want to know where he got that jacket.
@@HackCausality I as well
Battery is the one deal breaker for me, especially coming from note 20 ultra. Unfortunate because I like everything else about it and the Z fold 3 is not much better from what I hear in terms of battery.
so we are starting to make the foldables mainstream devices, fun and great review Mister
The Z Flip 3 is basically the flip phone that we all wanted
Just hope the flip 4 has whole screen on front. So it will feel like an blackberry.
Motorola slammed the door and left the room.
@@raichu512 true. by having whole screen, it would reduce the number of times the phone flip open.
@@rahmansallehin then what's the use of having a flip phone if you avoid it that much?
@@reimati because the number of flips can withstand is 200,000 flips according to samsung. by having full screen at outer shell, you can reduce the numbers of flips; and at the same time, expand the lifetime of the phone. remember, the glass is still the same as the first generation.
You have an amazing taste when it comes to interior design and phones. It all reminds me so much of the late 90s and 2000s. I miss my old phones, especially the Sony Ericsson W580i in pink lmao it was everythig I could wish for back then. Sony Ericsson needs to boss up more!
Hey Michael, quick question: How do screen recordings and screenshots look like on the Z Flip? Are they "messed up" in terms of aspect ratio if looked at on "normal" phone? Will they stick out like a sore thumb when compared to screenshots from other phones?
That's a very practical question. I'd love to know too
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but if my experience with the original Flip is anything to go by, they look a bit strange even on today's 20:9 aspect devices.
They're long, for sure - I answered this on Twitter a couple days ago. They're what you'd expect: bigger screenshot because taller screen. As for opening them on other phones ... yeah, I imagine you'd have to do some pinching. Is this ... is this something you do a lot? Looking at all the upvotes on this I'm confused and intrigued.
looking long screenshot on my 16:9 phone was very weird, narrower and i hv too zoom in. But now looking 16:9 screenshots in my new 20:9 phone dsnt look weird at all.
And i still and will always use 4:3 camera, sometimes 16:9 fr videos. It gives u better aperture.
So imo aspect ratio doesn't matter in flip.
@@TheMrMobile I must admit I have sent quite a bunch of screenshots to friends over social media and whatsapp, sharing a bit of news or random story instead of linking it directly and needing them to open it externally.
Great video? As usual. Great review? Naturally. Great production? I expected no less from Michael. But one especially good aspect of his videos is *elocution*. I clearly understand every word he says all the time, without the need for subtitles.
Thank you! This is my contention. I've always had flagships, the note series in particular. But for once, I just want something fun, compact and a joy to use. And Im waiting on my z flip 3 in the mail as we speak.
the chipset of the first iPhone was made by Samsung. all the foldable technology is from Samsung. even Motorola razer
Samsung: "Welc..."
Michael Fisher: "So I've had the phone for about a year now. Here's my full review..."
120htz or nothing with this phone. Ditched the iPhone and I'm loving the flip.
Mr. Mobile: brutal solar salvo of summer
Me: excellent phrase! Much respect!
Alliteration at its finest
One might say that he stated a stunning sample of syntax! 😎🙌😏
I will say, I do love the folding phones and these new designs are great. That said, I feel like they have a ways to go before they've perfected them enough for me to buy one. I still miss my LG slider phone (with fold out keyboard) from 2010. I suffer from sausage fingers and typing on a virtual keyboard is the bane of my existence. I keep phones for years so I see myself eventually getting an S22 or something around there, but who knows, by the time Im ready to trade that up years from now maybe then the flip phone will be at the height of its capabilities. And then, like always, Samsung will have my money. :)
I would love to see a video about general customizations you make over the stock Android/OneUI/etc like your Niagara launcher mention around 6:28
...or even just a video on all the fun LCARS setups you've had over the years across your videos.
If they put the S21 Ultra camera set on the Z Flip I would be at the Verizon store in a heartbeat.
Two days into using mine and I love it.
Nice video as always.
Thanks
The audio is spectacular.
Great review, and thank you for featuring the Flip! Tech enthusiasts are all drooling for the Fold. While it's certainly a marvel of tech, I think it's still too much of a brick to be a practical daily driver for myself and likely many others. Glad to see Samsung dialing in the Flip, and curious to see if Moto has anything but iteration in store for this year. Cuz this may be the year I pull the trigger! Very cool.
The lack of samsung dex is an absolute dealbreaker on this phone. I rely on that so much. I would love to have this, but it's just super unfortunate that for no reason they don't have it.
The price tag is still pretty high for me and I usually go for phones at the $399 to $599 range, but MAN the Z Flip looks so cool! I hope this technology keeps improving while getting cheaper
Bruh for me iphone se is also expensive
I think in the next few years we will see mid ranger foldable phones.
Their giving a lot of trade in offers for this generation of foldables. I was at tech store offering up to $1400 trade in for the new Fold 3. Meaning, hypothetically, you would only pay 300 for the fold 3. Similar deals are around for the flip. That price can drop to 50%-75% of the phones initial value (250-450) based on the deals.
The reaction of the guy at the coffeeshop was the best part of the video!
This has to be one of my favourite reviews by you.
Great job!
When mr.mobile reviews a phone, i know it's a legit review...
3:42 Good subtle reference to one of the best moments in TNG (in my opinion).
WE CARRY THE MEMBERSHIP. WE CAN BROOK NO DELAY.
OH MY GOD I now understand this reference
I've had flip phones from the original Motorola TAC all the way to the original Razr. All were awesome.
Sadly, flip phones break the primary goal and No.1 rule of technology; eliminate moving parts.
Because moving parts suck.
If it moves, it breaks. Period. End of story. Sleep well.
I really want one. With a traid-in I would only have to pay 480 Euro. But my S10+ is still running superbly, so I just can't justify replacing it this early.
same with me, Im not sure if I can replace my s10+ with Z flip. Audio Jack, memory card, 4100mAh, Quad HD Resolution. But Z flip really tempting
Same here...
Technically that's a good thing. Phones should have an in hand lifespan over 2 years.
I traded my s10e in and got £300 from Samsung for it. I ordered the 256gb version and got it for £699 which works out at £26 per month interest free for 2 years
@@chuddy8984 Please tell me if it was worth it after you've used it for a while. Battery life is another consern for me, tbh. I got my S10+ with a 2 year contract ( and 10 GB/month), where I pay a total of 600 Euros. Samsung would give me 520 for the phone...
SAMSUNGs new foldable's are the most MIND BLOWING phones so far!
0:30 this is why we buy flip phones, its just something so official about fliping your phone lol
I love waking up to your videos. Classy, informed and thoroughly done. Your reviews are specific and you understand the different audiences. Your truly are a professional. I appreciate your reviews and videos so much, keep it up!
I also have a sweet nostalgic feeling towards flips and have been eager to hear what YOU have to say.
I dont think phones are gonna get anymore fun. The flip 3 is only novel because it's a flipping smartphone with a foldable screen. It's ultimately all utilitarian, to get a smaller footprint, the whole point of flip phones. You won't be finding any fun features like a swiss army knife or a fold out keyboard or even a lanyard hole. Every ounce of space and weight is still at a premium. It must be 90% screen, the battery, and pretty much nothing else.
11:05 thats why I always rely on Michael's review of the foldables as other youtubers like MKBHD don't see the fun and have the excitement of using such bleeding edge tech Micheal is here making compromises.
Nice job as always you are a stay above most mike
This is the folding phone to get. They have finally nailed it.
Definitely nervous for the following
- Dust, lint or sand getting in the crack or hinge. I live by the water so there is always a possibility of some sand being on the ground. Definitely won't risk taking it to the beach.
- I'm not that happy about the battery life on my S21. On average I get 18 hours, so I will have to get use to the 12 hour battery life.
- I'm going to miss my telephoto lens.
I figure if the benefit of having a folding phone doesn't outweigh the drawbacks I mentioned above, I will look into trading this in next year when Samsung announces the S22 around the end of 1st quarter.
Im just old enough to remember a time when people thought smartphones were a wild concept that wouldnt catch on, but time passed, the tech got better and cheaper, and now most mobile phones out there are smartphones. i reckon the same will eventually happen with folding screens, and im excited to see it happen.
I lost my shit at "Banana Phone" song 😂😂😂 Great review.!
What a great review, as for usual. Thank you for the solid and consistent content Michael, all the best for you!
it's mature enough that i can finally be an early adopter after 2 years of waiting XD

I'm all in, I pre-ordered as well. The video was great, thank you!
FINALLY a video where someone touches on the new protector layer vs the old model THANK YOU would love to hear more about how different it feels vs gen 1
Honestly I am convinced that these flip smartphones are the future. Iron out all the kinks and stuff and make the tech cheaper and the slabs are probably gonna vanish tbh
I love the software on it. Great job Sammy
Wonderful. I may end up getting the next gen once my original z flip has run its course. We will what's out and what you're into at the time when that day comes.
Also I could love to know where you got those plexiglass coasters from timestamp 10:35 . 🤩
I really enjoy this man's reviews.
I like the practice of letting the initial shot be from the phone camera. Gives a good sense of what to expect. More power to you Mr. Mobile!
