Good morning sir, I have the 2022 Monkey and it too has a 5 speed gear box and the oil filter unlike the prior years. Have a great Thanksgiving, keep up the videos.
I bought a 2023 Honda Monkey in June and the 5 speed has gears well spaced and am very happy with it. This is my first motorcycle and at 80 decided to start ridding and really enjoy it and got my motorcycle endorsement . If feel that a gear indicator is useless. So have been ridding the bike for a little over a year and a half and have added a T-Rex racing windshield, center stand and rear rack with a top box. It is light and easy to ride. Normally cruise at 50 mph and get between 114 and 140 mpg. They changed the bore and stroke for 2022-2023.
Being an 80 year old rider is kind of cool, but learning how to ride at 80 is way cooler. It means you still have a young mind. A center stand is something we'll probably do but haven't felt the need yet for a windshield on the Grom or the Monkey. Maybe over the winter we'll change our tune. Keep riding and stay safe and Happy Thanksgiving to you.
On a 5 speed grom with a 75kg rider, ridding super gently with not much stop and go and speed in the 35mph ( 50km/h ) indicated, the on board computer was showing avrage of just about 150mpg for one tank ( good portion of it ) . At the gas pump that also calucated within few % same provided that oldometer is correct... which seemed like within 2-3 %.
I have a 5 speed model, but I'm under no illusions that it's any better than the four speed model, You see Honda just pandered to the whinging and whining reviewers that said it needed a bit more additional power and an extra gear to go faster, so they lengthened the bore and thinned it to steal a micro smidge of power (at the expense of longevity) and revised the whole gearbox to incorporate a 5th gear amendment, but the 5th is an actual overdrive literally, and gives no extra speed as there is no more usable power in that gear, just giving revs a rest to cruise!) I couldn't keep up with a heavier laden 4 speed Grom with my less laden 5 speed monkey, the added oil filter is a bonus, but like you say, I don't think anyone with a 4speed, should be envious of the 5 speed, you will not be fully satisfied with the swap and would be constantly trying to get more with using cog swaps, and that stops your ABS working correctly so I have been told!? 💁♂️ the 4 speed is as you'd expect from Honda, a really well engineered design that really doesn't need modding, just accepting as it is! 💁♂️ 👍 enjoy the coming festive season..
Thanks for the insightful comment on this topic. I have to admit that i put off buying our Monkey and Grom for a year because I heard the 5th gear would be coming.

I get about 120 mpg on my Grom but ride with the throttle pinned, mostly.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing, and have a fantastic Thanksgiving
