  • I take a close look at the incoming 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona EV and tell you why the Charger Six Pack, which will be equipped with the new Hurricane Twin Turbo inline 6 cylinder will be the more desirable car to have. These are 8 reasons you should buy the 550hp gasoline powered car over the 675hp all electric car. Which car would you prefer?

I can't imagine how insane somebody has to be to not die of embarrassment, when they roll up to a red light in an EV, and rev their non existent engine to make fake engine sounds. Fake engine sounds represent way more than just the lack of an engine. They represent the decay of our civilization.

well, having owned a 89 Turbo TA, and my Ex a 91 Twin turbo 3000GT VR4, i can tell you, Turbo 6 cylinder cars can be a lot of fun! and this coming Hurricane powered Dodge has way more HP than those did! should also mention the Turbo charged Grand National, the Silkwood's son up the street from me got one after they got their Kerr McGee settlement. and it was no slouch either! Turbo 6 muscle cars were very popular in the past, and proved their worth. maybe we can give Dodge a chance at least. just hope they can make it sound close to a V8 like Pontiac did with the 89 Turbo TA. not sure exactly how they did it, but i know it had larger headers, 3in pipes and a tuned muffler of some sort. and it DID sound like a V8. check em out on YT. and not since that car, have i seen not one auto maker, or aftermarket exhaust company duplicate it. but ya, i'll pass on the EVs, no interest in ever owning one! ☮

  • @davidrosing5788
    @davidrosing5788 26 дней назад

    RacerX,
Actually, the arguments you make only encourage me to want to go and get the EV Daytona, but for other considerations that you may not have thought about:
    1) The Hurricane 6 cyl twin turbo motor will indeed produce a lot more power, but one has to remember that in an ICE engine only about 1/3 of the energy originally stored in the fuel is available to overcome internal drivetrain friction and propel the car. Half of the remaining 2/3 available energy gets blown out the tailpipe as heat, the other 1/3 is transferred to the surrounding atmosphere via the radiator and other driveline cooling systems. So in order to produce your 1000 hp to the wheels, 1000 will go out the tailpipe as heat and the other 1000 will have to get transferred to the radiator. Normally this is no big deal, but remember that the displacement of these engines are getting lower and lower, which means the TEMPERATURES of some of these key engine/drivetrain components are going to get a LOT hotter than their earlier generations' counterparts. Have you noticed lately that there are a lot more PLASTIC components in the engine bay nowadays? Some of those are on key components, say like a plastic fitting on the thermostat housing that's sitting right above the exhaust manifold? After a lot of thermal cycles (run engine to normal operating temp, shut down, let sit overnight, repeat) all those plastic bits start to fatigue. Some break, and a few key ones can shut the engine down if, say, all the coolant blows out of the engine when you're driving through the desert (Oh, gosh, that NEVER happened to me ) So from a long term reliability viewpoint, the Hurricane engine has a built-in strike against it vs. the EV motor as the operational temperatures of the EV drivtrain won't get as hot as the ICE.
    2) From a total system complexity point of view, there are LOT more moving parts in the ICE engine and transmission. Yeah, the engineers have had 140 years of experience making the things reliable, but the trouble is, the more parts there are that make the systems more complex (e.g., compare the 1969 3 speed automatic transmission vs. a modern 10 speed automatic transmission) , the more the probability is that something can fail. And when they do fail, they cost a lot more to fix. If Dodge has an electric motor like the Tesla's that needs no transmission (full torque available all the way to 13,000 rpm) the transmission disappears and (in theory, at least) this makes the drivetrain way more reliable.
    3) Yup, batteries can die on the EV. But so can the engine on the Hurricane or the transmission. With all of the now heat-soaked and thermal-cycled plastic bits on the Hurricane after, say, 10 years of service, and if the engine has to get replaced, a lot of those plastic bits are going to break when they have to get removed if the engine has to be replaced or worked on. The engine and transmission are a bear to get out of the car and back in, so labor cost to replace them is significant because it can take a lot of time. If Dodge PLANS on battery replacement on the EV Daytona, this can be done in a few hours by dropping a few panels and swapping the battery out without messing with the other parts of the drivetrain. Remember, a lot of people change cars because they're afraid the engine or transmission will fail and cost a lot to repair. With the EV there's no fuel system, no exhaust system, no emissions system, no separate alternator system, no engine oil that has to get changed every 5,000 miles, no transmission fluid that has to get changed every 60,000 miles, the cooling system doesn't have to extract as much heat as the ICE, so there are things going in the EV's favor.
    4) One of the drawbacks of the EV's weight that you don't mention is that because they weigh more, they will chew through tires faster than their lighter brethren. But one advantage of the higher weight is that if the battery pack is placed at the floor of the vehicle, the lower center of gravity will enhance stability and handling.
    5) the major drawback of the Daytona EV is that Dodge hasn't made one that's been proven to be reliable yet, so I'm not so sure I want to the beta tester for the thing.
But given enough time, the EV concept will prove itself.
Frankly, I remember when the 1969 Challenger R/T was new, and it was my favorite muscle car after my all-time favorite of the 1965 Buick Riviera. The trouble is that the '69 Challengers were bought up and destroyed in the "Dukes of Hazard" TV show, so finding a used on in decent shape is pretty much an impossibility nowadays.
So, yeah, with all of you guys wanting the Hurricane versions, save one of the EV's for me and hopefully the price will come down for the car I'd prefer to get, namely the EV (when all the bugs are worked out)
Besides, remember you actually WANT those of us who prefer the EV's to buy them in order to allow Dodge to make the Hellcat versions for those of you who prefer the ICE. That way Dodge doesn't have to waste millions on credits to Tesla if Dodge can make their own EV. In my mind I'd think that because a lot of buyers prefer the ICE, Dodge should discount the EV to enable more sales of the EV, but this, in turn, will allow more sales of the Hurricane without penalty fines from the EPA,
    Just a thought.
My 2 cents, mind you. YMMV.

If you're not totally married to the V8 engine and you like the way this new car looks, then this is actually a win/win.
The AWD, 4 door, 420 hp, I6, Sixpack Charger is expected to start in the high $30K range. The current AWD, 4 door, 300 hp V6 Charger, starts in the high-$30K range. You get 120 extra ponies and a brand new design for a few grand extra.
The AWD, 2 door, 550 hp, I6 Charger is expected to start in the mid-$40K range. The current RWD, two door, 370hp, V8 RT Challenger, starts in the mid-$40k range. You get 180 extra ponies and AWD, but you lose two cylinders.
I'd say that both of these are pretty fair trades, unless you can't live without a V8 in your life.

Over 600hp you need billet upgraded internals, stage 2 heads and billet trans along with massively oversized intake, exhaust and intercoolers. 1Khp out of a 3.8L has def been done before but requires alot of time, patience and money... but with its low curb weight it will pretty much out drag everything out there.

Looking at the charger sxt V6 awd, that weight just barely over 4200lbs while the hellcat models weight 300 to almost 400lbs more in the process tbh while those are still rwd. If dodge didn't do too much to the new model,it may weight in between that and weight within 43-4400lbs at best since the I6 is heavier than the V6.

What no one is realizing, though, is that a turbo 6 is not going to be able to run the cheap gas, lol. Non turbo, sure, with some exceptions like BMW. In the end it's going to be the government that makes these things impossible to tune, though. Not that I would bother with the Dodge version until they're cheap junkyard motors.
