When I hear the word Dodge, I immediately think of the word sleazy or crooks.
Or crap
@@jimsteinway695 That too. 😂
I think of the sleazy Euro people that sold a car made in 2008 to people for big money and they bought it.
So a muscle car with 1000hp that costs as much as a Porsche has a slower top speed than a Mustang GT because the driveshaft is weak 😂 What a lame way to retire the Challenger
driveshaft isn't weak, Just too heavy to be spinning at that speed for long im guessing. Its a dumb design but I get they do need a really heavydriveshaft for launching it on prep as it puts a shit ton of stress on parts
Please explain where in the demon 170 or the mustang gt does it say either were built for top speed? That's like talking about using a cardboard box for a TV stand
The issue is that the demon was specifically built for a drag strip. It has a different brake setup as well as slick tires and smaller front tires. There are several components that are different on the demon versus the standard Hellcat . However everyone Tunes their Chargers and Challengers anyway including the hellcats so why not tune the demon to take the speed limiter off that's what everyone else does. I'm not sure why people are for real comparing this car to GT Mustangs I mean these two things are not even close to the same
Not to mention this guy's talking about the demon not losing money but not really making money. Okay well the demon is the only one out of the entire lineup That is a numbered vehicle. It will very much go up in value. Look at the last Model Vipers I mean you can't touch him for under a quarter million to 300,000
@weebbruh6975 but in the 1/4mile it will put a whole Walmart store length gap on you to the finish line. Porsche or Mustang is way out of its class in 1/4 mile. The 170 is worth every dime I paid for it and then some. My 2018 Demon with the crate ecm has a 211mph top speed but definitely slower than the 170 in the 1/4mi
"Drink to the markup you paid" absolutely killed me😂😂😂😂😂😂
You did the right thing. Hats off to you man.
Love hearing all the 170 owners say the 149 MPH limiter does not matter to them. Except as soon as it became public knowledge the value of the cars started to plummet and is still going down.
Won’t happen. The OG demon was also limited so is the TRX. Buy a tuner unlock the pcm and boom limiter removed.
@@nicholaspoole8688it's also a car built for the 1/4 mile. its really meant to trailer to the track.. and that's the problem, people arent thinking about their purchase properly. its like me buying a 1320 as a daily and then complaining 3 months down the road that the car isnt working correctly.
I got to 158 mph on my 3.5 v6 vtec coupe accord and I let off the gas.
Lol
it was limited to avoid having a parachute, which is required over 150 mph. Same with the roll cage.
it’s extremely easy to delete the limiter u can do it on any vehicle
200k for a challenger is just ridiculous imo, and the cost cutting and other bs Dodge did doesn't help. I think you made the right decision Mike both safety and financially, the ZR1 was a better buy for a fun car to have, hell I enjoy driving my 2000 camry lol.
Especially when for that you can get a 911 GT3 RS around 2016
i dont blame you dude, i feel like the Demon 170 was kind of miss sold after watching this. i think adding a gt500 would be cool and would give you almost the ultimate modern american muscle collection.
Totally agree. I have a '22 GT500, triple black with a lot of go-fast goodies and it absolutely kills my Hellcats for driving fun. I don't feel afraid to steer. If you've driven a hellcat car, you know what i'm talking about. My Trackhawk is an exception but it doesn't feel nimble like the GT500, it just feels 'large'. That's the only way to put it. Like you said, He should buy a GT500 and all the extra money he saved from not buying the 170, he can easily have a ridiculous E85 drinking daily driver that will eat 170's for breakfast.
Smart move! You made a wise decision by not paying that $50k mark up. I got 2 offered to me by a dealer at $35k over and then they said to "come in and make us a serious offer, we want to move the cars". I think I could get out for $25k over at this point. Look at how many are for sale now, it's insane.
I'd tell them sticker price and not a penny over, FCUK your market adjustment BS!
This was extremely informative, thank you. I didn't know any of these little things and had been wondering why you changed your mind multiple times on what car to get next.
Sad to hear. You’re more than welcome to come checkout and I’ll take you for a ride in my Demon 170!!!! I’m the guy who flew to Rockwall Texas and picked up the Go Mango 170.
Hey, it’s good that you were made aware of these issues before you actually bought the 170. Paying almost 200K for a stripped down version of a regular Demon/Hellcat hybrid is ridiculous and such a shame. Glad that the ZR1 is your solution and I wish you get the most out of it!
I invested in a 2005 Chevy Cobalt. I can hit 70 mph in about a minute and a half. The best selling point about a fine car like this is that no one in their right mind would consider stealing this car. It's sort of like when President Nixon, who hated Sriro Agnew the VP, was asked why he picked Agnew as his VP and he said no one would try to assassinate me knowing that Spiro would become President.
It’s important to remember that the demon 170 is not registered as a “demon“
The demon 170 is registered as a “Dodge Challenger redeye” .
If you look at the factory sticker, you’ll see that “demon” is a trim package.
I guess that means that they can get around the fact that they told Demon owners that they would never be another demon built after the limited number of demons was used up.
I think that the demon 170 was basically a last ditch effort to sell more challenges at the end of its life.
The 2018 OG Demon will AlWAYS be the ultimate muscle car ….211mph top speed
Provided the owners put in the after market drivetrain brackets to keep the axel from flying into the cabin.
Tune solves everything very quickly
And change the hood that will (best case) fly off the car or (worst case) lift the front end off the ground and cause a spectacular crash
What?@@evos469
You know the 18 is not the og demon.
1971 is the og.
GOOD FOR YOU BROTHER!!!!
You did well! I would have made the same decision. That vette is awesome!
Love your vids man, have you ever considered buying a ct5v blackwing?
One of the best all rounders at the moment in my opinion
But it's a GM. The cam shaft will get worn down by the stuck roller lifters.
My old 2020 Redeye was a pile of problematic crap so I traded it for my current Raptor. I keep looking at Redeyes online occasionally because I miss having a car for dragstrip and car meets. I think the GT500 is a little more modern and looks fast and fun. Still not as cool as that ZR1 though haha.
The markup situation on all of the 2023 Dodge Challengers and Chargers was stupid and out of hand. All the dealers thought they were going to get rich off of the "Last Call" hype and now they're stuck with rows and rows of Hellcats they can't sell. A local dealer near me says they have 108 V-8 powered Challengers in stock and most of them are Hellcats of one kind or another. They're advertising the regular R/T Challengers for up to $12K below MSRP, R/T Scat Packs for $8K below MSRP, and regular Hellcats, including widebodys, for $5K-7K under MSRP. God bless 'em, they're still trying to find suckered willing to give them $100K over sticker for the three Demon 170s they have in stock. Good luck with that now that the cars have made it out into the public and owners are reporting what a disappointment they are.
you made the right call
Great lecture....another new subscriber...
I really like this sort of off the cuff content
The tire slip on the Carbon fiber wheels is insane. Most serious demon 170 owners switch to after market bead-locks.
That's the only legitimate complaint other than mark ups people should bring up.
Hey it's the GTA guy (DCA) love your GTA videos I subscribed to this channel
I am a little bummed u weren't able to get it, but with all the nit picks, it probably was a better financial decision, and at the end of the day u got a C7 ZR1 which makes me happy
The 170 is made for one thing only and that is 1/4 drag racing. You should know that before you buy.
I like my cars blue, but that sublime green looks really nice specially with laguna leather sepia seats
This is another reason why Dodge is gonna go bye bye, a $200k Challenger with stick on "wide body" fender flares and a 149 mph top speed
You made the right choice. I believe the ZR1 will retain far more value in the future. The half wide body crap drove me up a freaking wall
You made a wise decision that you will never regret!
my dream car demon
For people who don’t understand why Atlantis is currently so profitable, it’s really easy to understand. They somehow figured out a way to make stupid people spend a quarter of $1 million for $40,000 Dodge Challenger.
What’s amazing to me about the demon is how much you don’t get in the car. No panoramic roof, no rear seat, no passenger seat and no high number of speakers in the speaker system.
Everything is centered around the weight reduction. Well it seems to me that if you omitting so many features at the price should be lower.
If you think it’s crazy for someone to pay more for a Demon because it has less creature comforts, you should definitely avoid looking at any of the Porsche RS cars. They don’t even have door handles.
you have made a good decision going with the C7 ZR1 but is it better than a C8 Z06 ? i don’t know but the ZR1 and the Viper is still a sick combo 🔥
Can’t go wrong with a GT500! I’ve seen that thing make a SVJ Lambo run after it on a long stretch highway. Sick and sounds great! I would even consider a GT350 Heritage.
Lmao I know exactly what lambo you’re talking about, is it the blue one? That guy lets off on almost every race. Still would recommend a GT500 tho
@@lopeiaran3422 Absolutely!
It seems kinda like another Tesla Cybertruck situation tbh. Are there any Euro or Japanese cars that you would consider getting or are you sticking to American muscle?
Lotus Exige!
Lets not forget that the Demon 170 isn't going to be laying down any sub 2 second quarters with you driving, more like maybe 3 and a half in real world conditions, which puts it on a par or even behind a lot of other fast cars. Check out the videos of the Demon 170 looking at the Tesla Plaid's taillights. Real world conditions are a big equalizer.
Waw i didn't know this channel existed
I'd love to see the cool stuff here
Keep it up buddy
$200k for Dodge $HIT??
Anybody that pays that kind of money for Dodge $HIT must get their head examined immediately!
That drive shaft exploding story certainly made an impression on me.
WOAHHH THIS IS CRAZY
I know it's got nothing to do with the video but I was wondering if you did anything on your Challengers to prevent them from getting stolen?
Bro explained the situation with the driveshaft so dry 😂😂😂😂
The 2023s are also breaking spark plug elements thus scoring some blocks……. Also the 2018 has demon insignia intake fog lamps where the 2023 has “direct connection” on it.
2023 is basically a slapped together direct connect catalog car with no soul
bro your physique is so good
Back off he’s taken
😂😂😂
No homo?
@@greengabe5 im just making a compliment
I have two 2018 OG Demons and I have a Demon 170. Top speed on the 2018 Demon is 211mph with the factory crate ecm installed. It’s the fastest stock Mopar ever made. It’s a beast at 840hp on 100octane. However, the 170 is a different animal with crazy unbelievable power. My 2018 Demon is my favorite but I’ll never sell the 170 or the OG Demon. When you drive the 170 you immediately know that this is something that wasn’t meant to be sold to the public. The front wheels come up with ease with a simple foot brake launch without even using the transbrake. I was blessed that I was able to buy all 3 of my Demons at MSRP so I can understand you aren’t wanting to pay a markup. The Demon 170 is the quickest Mopar ever made and the 2018 Demon is the fastest Mopar ever made(top speed). They both retire the Dodge brand as co-Kings!!! What I have paid a markup for the 170? $100k over? No. $50k over? Maybe as it’s definitely worth it with that much power with warranty. $35k over or less?Yes, most definitely as you’re winning in this range!!! This is a once in a lifetime car that was built the way you want it plus the carbon fiber wheels make it special. The CF wheels are selling for $50k alone so there’s your markup value back to you. There’s a dealership that is willing to pay $35k to any 170 owner that’s willing to sell their CF wheels. He’s reselling the wheels for $60k as they are no longer available. I think you should get the car and hold it. You won’t regret it as you will definitely regret not buying this car 5years from now. Your name is on the window sticker as that’s special to have that on the last call Mopar. Good luck!!!
Been a Mopar guy since dad bought a 1955 Dodge wayfarer. My first car was a 1963 dodge polara, 318 polyhead....great engine....when I graduated high school in 1974 I bought a 1968 coronet R/T 440 magnum gor 820.00 dollars. It had 60k miles on it. In 1989 I found a 1967 coronet R/T 440 magnum for 350.00 dollars. I still own it....runs like a dream...you all talk about 50k, 75k, 100k, 200k cars....but they don't hold a candle to the real Mopar of yesterday.....
Every time I watch your videos on here keep thinking I’m watching a gta car video 😄
I would love to see you with the mustang GT500 its my dream car
I feel like you Dodged a bullet. Racerx isn't having any luck with his.
So, the special thing about the Demon 170 is just its name.
Not just a name, completely upgraded engine/drivetrain…
@@96cherokee_59 Right, completely updated driveshaft. Lot's of comprimises and cost cutting. Wait for the E85 to gunk up the fuel systems when people let them sit with the wrong fuel.
love the ZR1
Smart move mike, that demon is all hype, you dodged a bullet and saved some money while doing so
You made the right choice. I know the Demon 170 was gonna be the best thing you’ve ever owned, but personally, the Corvette C7 ZR1 is by far the best one you’ve got. I’m starting to lean more towards Toyota more because Dodge doesn’t make any good cars anymore since they quit making the Challenger but made an EV Charger which is slow and heavy, and the Hornet isn’t all that great either, but Toyota has a lot of interesting vehicles in their lineup. I still like Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and Lamborghini, but Toyota is so awesome in my book.
The couple people I know who got an allotment, canceled their too. The main reason is they are not selling like people were thinking they were going too on the secondary market.
This is tough. On one hand, would be nice to have my SS, 1320, and a 170....but, I think between the hype, and quality issues, the markups, that its just not a good deal.
Telling people I have a 2023, immediately comes, with a look like I got burned (even though I only did 5k over, and that was due to it being a 1320 order, but fine, it was the way I wanted it, no sunroof, and the other goodies, though would have been nice to have the plus package without the rear seats, or single seat for that matter...but I wanted the adjustable steering wheel and all that, with the stitching. Vanity...lol) But with the economy as it is, I may lose the shirt off my back anyway, so might not matter.
When I mention the 2022s, I get no such looks, in fact, I was able to get those under MSRP. Including the SS, which is a beast of a car in its own right.
I would've bought a 2018 Demon w the Demon crate and stuff instead. But unfortunately they didn't made sublime green for it
My dream car is exactly that one, and I want one in matte black
I was always wondering how you would be able to realistically own the 170 after having to make such a sizable purchase in that of the ZR1. And just under 200k for a Challenger? That makes the ZR1 look like a bargain (and that wasn’t cheap at all😅) Oh well, guess this means the Sublime green theme is over? It was fun while it lasted, hope your new car (whatever it is) gives you more bang for your buck. 🙌🏼
Btw, when you hit 600k for the burnout vid have you decided if you’ll use the Viper or the ZR1?
I received my Demon 170 a month ago fully specd out with carbon fiber wheels and price protected MSRP. I thought I was gonna love the car in person but when I saw how weird it looked without the front fender flares. My mind quickly changed. 2 weeks later I sold it and havnt looked back. If it wasn't for 149 mpd speed limiter and no front fender flares. I probably would of kept it.
To each his own. I had 2 fat boi challengers and the amount of rock chips down both sides of the car made me sick. When I saw this car last March without the front wide wheels I ordered it
If I wanted a car with a 1000 hp like that, I would want the demon
But I wouldn't like paying $200K. Cause I also don't have $200K.
so do u have any plans buy dodge challenger demon from 2018 again?🤔
190 for a muscle car 🙈 has anyone checked Dodge to see if John delorian is kicking about with a briefcase full of the yaaayooo
Muscle car is supposed to be a lot of bang for not a lot of cash
It sounds like they haven't built the car they said they were going to build and have tried to cash in on the previous success . I personally think the vette is a much better looking car that and 50k seems the smarter move .hope you enjoy what you have . excellent content as usual from you and great thet you are talking about this experience some ppl wouldn't
you are right on the money or should i say it's not worth or going to be worth any markups for its very limited use
I got my demon 149 for a little under sticker. I'll never try to go 200mph so whatever. I love mine
I'm a car addict too, just can't afford them at the moment.
I was lucky (and or dumb) enough to get chassis number 1127 in sinnamon stick. I actually talked to you briefly over discord about the carbon fiber wheel fiasco. You mentioned that dodge “sold out” of carbon fiber wheels but I just have to add that they conveniently have them on their website for quadruple the price they were on the order form. Yet I never had the option to order them so that kinda sucks. I got the decanter set last weekend and it’s actually really nice and much larger than the picture leads you to believe. I think they went with a decanter because of the whole “alcohol injected” marketing. I’m not upset about the limited top speed because that’s not what it was marketed as from dodge. The whole point of the car is 0-60 and quarter mile and the ability to make run after run without breaking drivetrain components. also your Trx is top speed limited but you didn’t complain about that? I would also rather have a yellow engine block than an air grabber sticker. (I think that’s a bit excessive to complain about a sticker nobody ever sees). Other than that you probably made a good choice to pass. I still think they will go up in value because it’s the last of its kind from dodge.
The ZR1 hands down trumps the 170 for style and status.
Smart move on your part, 170s will not appreciate for another 10 years or more if ever. The bottom drops every day on them now. It’s such a limited market at that price.
Damn, I bet you regret selling that hellcat now
Have you considered the new dark horse mustang?
You should go for a shelby gt350 or gt500. Those are better options imo
Oh shit u got an actual channel not just a gaming one
It's cool as a drag car - the smaller brakes etc are kind of expected in a drag car. I'd never pay anything close to 6 figures for a dodge. Unless your a hardcore drag racer.... you are better served with a 911 GT3RS or even a M3.
Smart Man
They said now that Dodge announced they are going to bring back the viper. Not sure of the specs right now. But should be interesting. 😊
Where are you seeing this?
I don't blame you 1 bit for for not accepting the car. It was advertised as something it's just not. It could be, but dodge decided to cut corners on the last challengers made. What dodge did is false advertising. They announced the car in Las Vegas and told everyone it was going to be a street legal 215 mph car and then didn't deliver on that after people ordered their car. Dodge shouldn't be able to charge those kind of prices and then give you half the car.
Bro i remember this dude from the gta 😂
I have 0 fear that my GT3-RS drive shaft will come off🤪😂
DCA, don’t you need a daily driver? Maybe you should get a beater lower tier Sublime Green Challenger, maybe even a v6…
Good call. Dodge had engine issues while testing. They blow up. No shyt. 1000+ hp is extremely difficult to make reliable. This driveshaft issue ...RUN!
With 89k buy the most American muscle car made.
Buy the safest cars in the world.
Buy the most reliable cars in the world.
Buy a car you can reliably run 1000s of 9.2s @ 150mph passes and pick your kids up at soccer.
With the remainder of the 1/4 mil. Buy TSLA and get very rich.
You should get another redeye to have a challenger
I predict years from now the 2018 Demon (with crate) collectability and price will decently exceed the 2023 D170
it's more of a drag car so mini tubs and no wide body trash would be best IMO
It’s a little sad that you couldn’t get the demon 170 but have you thought about just picking up a demon 2018 instead?
Can you share the Dodge information about the driveshaft being deadly?
Under rating the drive shaft without touque tube construction not center bearing drive shaft
I'm glad I kept my challenger hellcat redeye and didn't fall into the low brain cell count of paying the extremely high fictitious markup...which all your doing is paying the negative equity up front😂
HC 170 Should For Sure come with a Driveshaft Loop , I’d NEVER PAY OVER MSRP , but at List Price , I would of kept it
$200k for a Dodge Demon sounds crazy, sounds like a little headache with the process if getting the car. $200K can get you 7 brand new Priuses! Thats good how you declined the Demon offer, you can use $200K for a sport car like a Vantage, AMG GTR, Audi R8. Thats a good decision you did though Digital🔥
Seems like the 18 demon is the one to get
And here I sit, living in austerity, setting aside any and all unspent money so come December I can finance a used grocery getter.........
Honestly it’s disappointing to see you not get it after all this time. Every time someone would ask about the Demon on streams, you’d get so giddy about it arriving. As least you got yourself something to that power level with the Corvette, but I can’t imagine how it must feel to not get it after all this time, even with its issues.
Where can you drive anywhere on public roads @ anywhere near 150. I’d bet most of those will just lay in a collection gathering dust so one day it can sell for a gazillion dollars at Mecham or Barret Jackson
I hated the narrow front fender look from the beginning, and it never grew on me. It looks unfinished. It's not as fast as they claimed it would be, a big demerit. So yes, it's a drag car with drag brakes, wheels, tires, etc. I get it - drag car, not street car. But at the price they are getting for these cars, it's just not as good a value as the earlier Demon.
Okay. I love the 170. But its definitely not living up to the hype in so many ways. Im pretty sure the markup is to pay for the thick book of excuses that buyers needs to explain why keeps losing at the track. Stock and in The 8's? I'm still waiting. Its no slouch, but way too many excuses. Bad track prep, poor 2nd 3rd shift. Figuring out the trans brake. It is too powerful to put the power down. It goes on and on. And now my old Genesis R Spec will beat it on the top end. Thats just insanity. I've lost the faith in Mopar. The list of excuses is heavier than the car itself.
It's top speed is lower because it's built for a quarter mile not a top speed car. Guaranteed to have a top speed of around 220 to 225 if there wasn't a limiter wh8ch you can take off
In A nutshell $200K Flop, and $100K scam! Bruh bend over and touch your toes, and spell Run 3 times till you get it. This is what the dealership thinks of us.
You made the right decision DCA! 149mph governor limited is not fun 😡 So ZR1 > Demon 170 💯
Where in the fuck are you people doing 150+ mph constantly enough that this is an issue. It's quicker than a Model S Plaid.
Dam 100k to 190k is crazy
The only reason these dealerships keep doing this is because of all the rich people that keep buying the cars
Thank you for not fall for their bullshit.
Have you thought about getting a classic mopar.
Classic cars not rlly my thing unless I had a massive collection. I like to drive my cars pretty aggressively in Mexico haha
I don't understand how anyone could afford one even at factory msrp is insane, I can't imagine trying to make the monthly payments for year after year too pay it off
Please tell me who worked on your Corvette and tuned it as I have a 2016 Z06 Callaway with 800 hp and I let the local tuning shop tune it and my hellcat. They blew up in less than 500 miles only putting out 800 hp, my Callaway has foul plugs and nobody will touch it,not Chevrolet and I cannot find anybody in North Carolina area that even wants to see the car. Damn shame it’s a beautiful red convertible with every option sitting in the garage beside my hellcat with a brand new $22,000 Stock motor installed from Dodge… Also, I have a Mustang that has been sitting for a while because no one will touch that either. Moral of the story is leave it the way it came from the factory, but at this part I need help to fix the vette. Would really appreciate your advice.
The hellcat blew up?
@@MrCarAddictDCA yes National Speed a local company here in Wilmington, North Carolina, and in Virginia had done some work on my Mustang in the past. Not good, but I figured because they now had a 4.8 Google rating which I now know can easily be bought by any business these days,I decided to give them a chance. I already had Borla exhaust and cold air intake. They said they could put on their stage one system, which basically just consist of injectors and a pulley and put down 800 rear wheel horsepower and it would be safe. Pulled out to pass a car on the way home at 60 miles an hour and blew three holes through the block they don’t know what could have possibly happened and took no responsibility and charged me another $22,000 which they said they could build an engine with 1200 hp and I found out after they couldn’t get the block they wanted. They had ordered a stock Hellcat block. I said no way and got most of my money back but now I was in for over 10 grand and had to buy a new engine from Dodge as I wanted the warranty at this point .My engine had 14,000 original miles on it and less than 500 miles since they had done the pulley. The car has never been on a track or even raced on the street from a dig.I’m 60 years old and I’ll take care of my cars. Again, that’s why I said I have no idea who to trust to even tune a car at this point. Any thoughts for a 2016 Z06 Callaway Corvette 11,000 miles with roughly 800 hp. Thanks again.
You missed the entire point of the car, its not a street brawler, its built to run passes at a sanctioned track (which its now banned from), not do runs in mexico to 200mph. Two totally different applications. Idk its a dodge thing lol
