Man thanks for doing this comparison, the chances of being able to line up an '18 Demon and a Demon 170 for a video are scarce, cheers for making it happen! This was a really fun watch! I've only gotten the privilege of driving a Redeye, which was insane, I can't imagine a Demon.
The 2018 Demon is my dream car, I really like that one better than the Demon 170! It really finishes the widebody styling, whereas the Demon 170, it has the front fender flares removed to reduce weight.

The redeye hood has that insulation padding on the underside which will quiet the supercharger noise in the cabin more than the 2018 Demon. I noticed when I have my redeye’s hood open and I give it a rev it’s significantly louder
Yep! That insulation in the hoods undersiding is called the silencer. Design to do exactly that. You remove it from any Hellcat with an aftermarket intake and the whine would be just as loud as the Demon's even though the Demon has a bigger supercharger.
I love the carbon fiber accents and the suede headliner (called the "carbon/suede interior package") of the Demon 170! When I bought my 2021 scat pack (low-mileage used), I was was also considering ordering a new 2023 one (the price difference was quite large...hence I went with the 2021), but the guy who was the first owner ordered it with carbon/suede package and I'm so glad! It's a pricey option at $1,795, so I would never have ordered it myself, but now I'm sure glad mine has it.
As much as I like the Demon 170, I rather have the "normal" Demon. I always loved the Challengers, specially the '08 model, and Dodge did an amazing job with the newer ones. My dream is to have a '08 and '18 Challengers, together with a '70 Challenger R/T in yellow and black. And oh boy, the Octane Red color looks incredible on both cars.
I really like this direct comparison style video 👍, for me the demon feels more special as it has many parts specifically made for it, unlike the 170 where it uses parts from other challenger models ( and the half widebody just looks bad )

It looks like Dodge put all the care into the 2018 Demon and the 170 was more of an afterthought. I sort of understand that they just used a lot of the regular parts from the rest of the Challenger line but it still shows they didn't put as much attention to details in the 170. Unpopular opinion but the 2018 Demon is the special one in my eyes. The crate, Easter eggs, reliability, and true street/strip daily use make it a legendary vehicle. The 170 is cool but it's just a drag car that is pretending to be a street car. The price gouging on the 170 and bad juju around it have really turned off true enthusiasts as well. Realistically the regular Hellcat or the Redyeye is the one to really get for the best bang for the buck.
My Octane red WBSP has been a pleasure to own! Love the color. Most “need” a bit of paint correction from factory but is pretty easy to maintain after that.
Man the biggest difference I’ve noticed is traction from the tires! Both have obnoxiously too much horsepower and you can’t feel much between the two, but the 170 just hooks up and doesn’t spin like the 18. So outrageous like the TRX and I love them all!
You can have just as much fun in a used 2017 hellcat for $40k. Even with an average paying job, $700 a month is pretty affordable and a "normal" car payment to most.
This was an awesome video I loved every minute of it and both cars are beautiful and George is one lucky guy to own both of them but honestly it's sad that he keeps them parked in a garage if I owned both they wouldn't stay parked they would not be a garage princesse at all. More horses on E85 but it's said that alcohol has a cooling effect. After it burns in the combustion chamber I'm not sure. But they also have the heavy duty cooling system as well as the chiller for the supercharger ramming cool air into the top end of the engine. The bottom end is probably more heavy duty internals wise due to increased rpm's (as with most factory turbo cars) and more power . But it shouldn't be more stressful to run E85 in vehicle engines 100% built for that purpose. I've been dealing with Turbo Cars since the early '80's but didn't purchase any U.S. made Turbo or SuperCharged vehicles until the mid 80's when they brought the internals and cooling systems up to par to match the extra power introduced to the engines as well as the the transmissions and drivetrain . ( the 1st Turbo's were only oil lubricated for lubrication and cooling which led to overheating and premature turbo and engine issues. As well the cooling systems were not upgraded. Same with Supercharged ... Later Superchargers were liquid cooled as well Turbos have coolant lines for cooling . And now have the AC chiller boxes. As well the internals were built to withstand the extra power) As well as factory oil cooling systems and extra cooling fan power , larger radiators and synthetic oil. * Pour some rubbing alcohol over your wrist you'll feel the cooling effect. Then pour gas over your wrist. The gas will heat up. I agree with the poster on his statement .
Imagine owning these cars, and never being able to really fully enjoy their capability because you're so set or not damaging anything and keeping low miles and just keeping it in a beautiful mint garage. I feel like that is kind of a waste but if you're the owner I guess you get to do whatever you want

Honestly challengers are nice and everything but to pay that much for small differences, it bugs me like you can get a V6 Challenger that comes with the wide body option, to look like a hellcat or a redeye or even a demon minus the hood. I am a mustang guy and mustang's have different body styles. For example, the gt500, the super snake, gt350, roush, saleen, steeda, etc. So in the end for the price of the demon 170 I would rather get a GT500 Super Snake with an actual wide body
In Jay Leno's video review of the Demon 170, he does have the Demon Logo inside of the headlight.... so that is a bit weird. Maybe he had a pre-production version or something? Dodge might have provided the car for Jay's video. Edit: Ah, yeah. Dodge provided a pre-production car for Jay. Sad they removed that logo. :(
The engine for the 170 is far more reenforced and beefed up and the body styling is completely unique to the 170, so calling it a "direct connect catalog" version is laughably incorrect, especially because the original Demon is only better at drag racing compared to the updated Redeye widebodys that came after. Let me guess, you're also one of those people who would keep the yellow bumper guards on the car not realizing it scratches the literal shit out of the paint and is designed to be taken off ASAP?
Let's face it...dodge added a little CPU mapping change took things from the red eye cleared out the wear house 150. Limiter demon 170...165 Limiter on the 2018 demon... the redeye top end speed beats both demons....I owned a redeye, superstock, and now a 2018 demon...I drove the demon 170 the power is insane...but the price is insane two...I'll keep my 2018 demon...out of all my cars the superstock I like the best..

One other difference, the 2018 comes with a black key that limits power to 500 hp if you care to use it.
