      Great suggestion! While I didn't cover them in the video, some good preparatory poses for the traditional pigeon pose are the 'seated pigeon' (also known as seated figure 4) and the 'reclined pigeon' (or reclined figure 4). If you search these names online, you'll find plenty of pictures. Many find these variations a great alternative or a stepping stone toward the traditional pigeon pose. Hope this helps! :)
