  • In this video I discuss how I and many other ebay sellers have been scammed by a serial ebay scammer! Avoid this buyer at all costs.
    As an online eBay reseller I have to deal with many problematic or dodgy buyers and usually am able to avoid scams... but this guy got me, watch to learn how.
    The worst part of this eBay scam is that the buyer has no-doubt scammed many other sellers, for hundreds if not thousands of dollars worth of inventory.

    The worse thing about this whole story is that eBay facilitates this. I was scammed and looked at the "feedback left for others "Out of 50 feedbacks left 70% very negative and I could see from the replies that he had been given full refunds etc etc. This guy was a vindictive hard core scammer. The most annoying part was not that I had been scammed, not that he had scammed dozens of other people over a period of two years, but eBay's complete indifference. I have never known anyone who has been banned for serial scamming against sellers.

      As long as they continue to make a profit, eBay do not give a damn. I sell and buy on eBay on a weekly basis and have done so for 20 years. However, you always have to be aware that you are on your own and factor in the cost of doing business on eBay.

      I had a buyer from Alaska 2 months ago buy a rare Japanese vase that came with wood crate. The guy had cried for the best price which I gave him. I had not left feedback remember. So after 3 weeks after delivery the guy contacted me and said wood crate had a little damage but vase in good condition.. he complained in 3 paragraphs mind you 3 weeks after delivery. My response was the vase is good as you stated what do you want? I said we are both not happy so file a claim with ebay and return. Never heard back from him until he left me great feedback a week later. I have vases he was interested in but I blocked his butt lol. He is another scammer wanting items for free.

I would have just told him sorry it didnt work out, send it back and once I receive the original shirt I'll refund or send a replacement. I believe that's more than fair. Thank you so much for this info - really helpful for other sellers! I had a similar incident with a woman who purchased a pair of high heels from me, she said I sent her a pair of size 7s despite them being a 6.5 - she demanded a refund for the item, but I asked her to send an image of the shoe size! She had the nerve to find a different pair of shoes that were size 7 and sent me an image of them. I knew the image was not of the shoes I sent her so I confronted her about it and reported it to eBay and she never bothered me again! I also always track items.

      I don't suppose eBay bothered to suspend her account did they?
      .. and that's another thing. When buyers are caught doing this, not only should their accounts be suspended, but that suspension should be added to their profile and stay on there for at least 3 years. Since this is 'virtual shoplifting' , before the suspension can be lifted they should provide verifiable photos of themselves to go on their profile (stores take photos of persistent shoplifters don't they?). That might deter buyers from scamming sellers as friends and people who know them will see them for what they are .. thieves!!

    A Ebay Troll.The modern version of the injured pedestrian you never hit with your car but still got sued . My friends in Florida during the 1990s had to deal with this insurance scam.Just moved to Ebay on a smaller level. Using Ebay buyer response as hostage against established sellers I'm 53 and have had few issues with sellers or buyers . The best fix was when in the late 1990s I purchased a mini disc recorder from LA. It was a language barrier because it was LA's China Town and it to 1 hour through broken English the problem was resolved and mini disc recorder was sent. Im 53 now and have been lucky not to deal with this issue but always a concern. Good Video 😎

    The problem with checking the feedback that a suspect seller leaves for others, is that many sellers don't leave any feedback for anyone period. A lot of buyers are simply not good ebay citizens. I've personally made about one hundred ebay sales, but only about twenty percent ever bother to leave feedback. I've left feedback for every transaction as buyer or seller as an ebay member myself. The feedback system doesn't work if buyers don't participate.

  • @Hold-my-beer
    @Hold-my-beer 3 года назад

    I appreciate sellers as yourself. You tried to make things right and just got scammed. When I buy on eBay I don’t automatically dismiss a seller when they have a small amount of negative feedback. It all depends on the percentage anything under 93% I walk away. I know there are some people who just can’t be pleased and leaving negative feedback is just their way of feeling some sort of power but when 7% or more of the buyers are not satisfied I don’t want to take a chance. So just don’t give in to these scammers in fear of having a negative review. If you have more than 5% of your buyers unhappy maybe take a step back and see what’s really going on.

      eBay simply doesn't care about members, especially sellers. Proof is their "Managed Payments" program that allows them to hold sellers' money at will, under the guise of "processing" - and it was "24/7 processing" to get people to join, but they now only do 3-4 days of each week, delay transfer to your bank, and many other ridiculous things. They seem to be searching for more ways to introduce "the shaft" to eBay sellers,, and won't stop until members rebel.

    Dude a very informative video but I think the fear of getting negative feedback has to be lost in order to sell successfully on eBay in the long term.
    Also I’d never ever send out a free item to a customer who is not happy with a purchase, particularly clothes or shoes. If they’re not happy with it (and provided your listing is accurate and detailed) simply get the buyer to return it and only refund after they have sent it back to you in the same condition it was sent to them.
    Anyway, a good buyer to add to the block list for Aussie sellers 😎

    We need to start a website that list scam buyers. There is no reason why we cant make a list of people who have scammed sellers over and over. This has been done in other commercial businesses and companies. They set up lists and share them with other companies to stop this exact thing from taking place. Ebay sellers need to unite.

    I was just scammed by a buyer who is well known to ebay for past crimes. He asked for a refund and mailed back an empty envelope (confirmed by postmaster). I contacted ebay and they putcase on 5 day hold. 2 hours later they refunded the scam buyer so now he has my item and $175!!! Ebay has had me jumping through hoops ans still won't do anything. I'm clearing out my items up for sale and walking away after 20+ years.

    I never check the feedback left by buyers with single digit feedback. As you say - they could be scammers accounts set up to obtain stock to resell or a way to obtain stuff for free. We usually ask the buyer to return their purchase for a full refund. This sorts out the real people from the fraudsters trying to scam you

    When I was selling regularly I had a couple people try this, the first time it was a transformer, they said it was broken and wouldn't send a picture to confirm it. I say leave the negative feedback, most buyers that see one or two negatives out of even 10 positives will prompt people to message you most of the time.

    Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. I have been on eBay since almost the very beginning. Over 20 years now. One of the very first rules sellers learned about way back then was about dealing with zero or low feedback buyers. They could be serious trouble. Sellers would 1) refuse to sell to zero feedback buyers, 2) refuse to sell to low feedback buyers, 3) require a minimum of positive feedbacks for low feedback buyers or 4) require pre-approval for low feedback buyers. I do not recall if back then eBay had configuration options to mechanically enforce that; they may do now. This is part of eBay history lessons that is apparently not transmitted to new sellers, so they repeat the same mistakes. Should have just taken the negative hit and offered a refund IF the item is returned in the same condition. On my last purchase that was defective, the seller required return before refund. I had no problem with that understanding the scams that some people pull, returned it on his dime and received the refund.

    If someone leaves me a negative feedback on ebay and that is the first interaction with them (so they haven't asked for a refund, opened a case, etc...), I won't give them anything. I'm happy to work with anyone who has a genuine issue but if they can't be bothered to go through those channels, then I won't bother offering them a refund or a partial refund. Ebay won't remove the feedback regardless, so no further damage can be done to the account. I'll also block them so they can't buy anything else from me.

    This does not fall under the category of 'scamming'. He's paying for his purchases and filing a complaint, which is completely 100% LEGITIMATE. You should know that there are more demanding customers out there who may not want to accept an item that is of less of perfect quality. If they file a complaint for that, THAT IS IN THEIR RIGHT TO DO SO. That is not a scam. The only thing 'scammy' about here is your thinking. Because your presumption is that "Everyone who's not nice is generally scamming you." You know, let me tell you. If I ordered a custom-made item that is expensive, I would check every corner and angle to the finest detail that it's 100% PERFECT, despite how many good reviews that seller may have. If it's in any way less of perfect, I will return that item and demand for a full refund. And I would still consider keeping my feedback as 'negative' as it came imperfect the first time. I call myself a "demanding customer", but there is no intent of scamming as I'm ordering the item because it's appealing to me, not because I intend to scam the seller and get my money back.

    My worst eBay experience in over 7,000 sales involved an angry Australian, Seiko watch collector Neil Condon. He demanded a partial refund in exchange for positive feedback -- because he had "spent two hours"altering the "defective" bracelet I sent him. As usual, eBay let him post negative feedback, sent him a full refund, and gave him the bracelet. I wrote the eBay Senior VP for Legal Affairs. Soon, her assistant wisely reversed the company's legal errors.

I responded immediately saying: " I understand completely. Return immediately for a full refund". I have not heard another word from her. People are just fishing for a partial refund and I try my best not to do it. It just makes it harder on other sellers. She paid $18 dollars for an item that was selling for $50 0n average. LOL

    I recon this buyer was one of your competitors who sells similar items to what you are selling and they have used a low feedback dummy account to buy something from you and neg you in order to cripple your sales and drop you down in the eBay search results... NO, this "buyer" doesn't sell anything with this account, at least. He likely does sell under another name, but this account has only 9 feedbacks - and he's left 9 feedbacks - with FIVE NEGATIVE, one neutral and 3 positive. He's simply a thief, that's all. Ebay states that they work to prevent this by checking IP addresses,, but that's a joke since it's so easy to spoof an IP address - or just go to a restaurant and sign up using their WiFi for a different IP; you don't even have to go into the place!

    Here in New Zealand we have 'Trade me', (which is similar to Ebay), sellers and buyers can both leave feedback, and have 30 days, from when they post the original comment/review, to change or edit it. After that, what's there is permanent. I think if Ebay did this, too, there might not be as much fraud going on.

    • @simplywonderful449
      @simplywonderful449 3 года назад +2

      eBay was once similar to that, but buyers had their way when CEO John Donahoe in 2008 changes it to the current form where sellers can't leave anything negative for buyers, but buyers have open season on sellers. It needs to be changed, but won't be until eBay's stock value drops so low that the company itself will be at a no-reserve auction. Ebay has had a parade of CEOs since then, with the previous one getting kicked out by the board after agreeing to a plan to harass the folks at ecommercebytes.com, during which the FBI got involve and 5 eBay employees were arrested and face federal charges for cyberstalking, stalking and other crimes. Of course, Devin Wenig, the CEO, walked with millions in "severance"!

    I always check feedback on buyers when they send me an offer. If it is a low number or just seems sketchy I ignore the offer. I don't even decline the offer. Also many things I sell I unfortunately have to say they are sold as not tested and sold as is or parts or repair. Because I had been scammed on items that I know work perfectly. I've also started reporting every single person who buys an item from me, usually on a best offer, and then a few mins later they want to cancel the order. Pisses me off what was the point of that. Intuition is what I have to go by now a days, it's cut down on my sales but it has also cut down on the scammers.

    I myself sell on ebay as a seller casually I’ve never had issues with buyers but me buying off other sellers I’ve had several bad experiences on two occasions i got a full refund because the people selling were not being honest so it’s not always the buyer that’s out to scam and con sellers are good at it also. what makes a good buyer is asking question before and after you buy something if a seller is not honest enough to reply or acknowledge your request that’s a red flag but as a seller if a buyer makes no attempt to contact you regarding something they purchased best course of action is message the buyer about the items it’s not to get positive feedback it’s just peace of mind knowing that they got was in the ebay sale it helps to avoid getting scammed by buyers because ebay monitor all messages never be afraid to ask questions it gives you a safety net for buying and selling

    Hello, I'm an ebay seller also. While the vast majority of buyers are decent, I also encountered some scammers. When I send out a perfectly good item, but the buyer claims it's faulty and can I give a partial refund. Some of them open item not received case. This is an issue I can't contest, because it easily can happen. The postal system isn't perfect and sometimes parcels are lost. Worst buyer in my experience was the man who bought a crystal from me and claimed it arrived broken, he sent me a picture of a mineral smashed to smithereens. That crystal couldn't have been broken in such way, even if it would be dropped from a height without protections it would never in a million years would have ended up broken into thousands of tiny pieces. That mineral was literally smashed with a hammer, there is no other explanation for it. Strangely the cotton wool into which it was wrapped by me had NO broken pieces embedded - it was visible on his photo. I guess he had a second thought about his purchase and didn't want to send it back, so he smashed it and claimed it arrived broken, so he doesn't have to spend money on the return postage. I had no other choice just to refund him even knowing he is lying. He was even threatening me with a police if I don't refund him immediately!!!
