Bad Ebay Sellers and Poorly Described Items

  • A short video inspired by an item received this morning from an ebay seller.
The item was described as 'New Other' (As New in the listing) and coming with box and manual, unwanted gift.
    Pfff.
In fact, it was used (a lot), covered in dust, crumbs and crap in the battery compartment, came with 4 flat batteries, no box, no manual and (as new ones come with one), no power supply.
UPDATE I opened an eBay dispute and the seller insisted that it was new. He also said he didn't include the box & manual because he thought I wouldn't want it as it was damaged ?? I said if he sent the box & manual, I would be prepared to keep the unit as I got it at a reasonable price (for a secondhand one). He promised to send them the next day.
I waited a full week and yes, no box or manual. So I elevated the dispute so that eBay would make a decision on the case.
Wow !!! Within the space of 30 minutes, eBay had found in my favor, refunded me the full price of £26 AND I get to keep the Bass FX !!!!
I've no idea whether they will be chasing the seller for the money or not? Probably not as he would want his FX back. To be honest, I couldn't care.
Only dilemma I have is whether to leave negative or not? I don't as a rule, but this guy is a complete Muppet.

Lazy procrastinating sellers and buyers should be banned. If you are lazy or constantly late on shipping or buying then leave eBay. ALWAYS post a tracking number asap or at an indication your shipped it out.

On ebay you don't know what you are buying until it arrives. Even if you get a refund think of the time and energy you wasted on nothing. A seller can post a stock photo of a new laptop and send you something ran over by a garbage truck. Ebay will profit either way.

I feel that if a buyer wins a auction and pays that day, the seller should attempt to send the item out the next day. If they cant they should send the buyer an email explaining EXACTLY when they will be shipping it out. If the buyer pays immediately the seller needs to update the buyer asap. No excuses, if you have delays why are you selling on eBay?

Reward positive behavior, punish negative behavior. Think of it as a warning for the next buyer that finds his auctions.

It's overwhelmingly more common for buyers to scam sellers out of items and their money back. that's feeBay buyer's protection 'your item guaranteed AND your money back', yes eBay helps buyers steal.

they might have found that used at a thrift shop and didn't sell it "Used, Sold As Is." Which would have been best. Thanks for sharing

He lied about the condition and that it was a gift if he got it at a thrift store. It might have been a gift he got 10 years ago. Sellers always lose when they do this, not sure why they do it

I am thinking to seriously stop my ebay account because they have 0 protection to their customers and they side with sellers even if they are scammers, no more ebay or paypal, yes go to hell

Quite the opposite these days, ebay now is geared toward buyers.
You can now buy something, say it was damaged, get a refund and not have to return the item with their money back guarantee, not only do they do that, but they leave sellers only 3 days to make the arrangements. This means if you're out of town, tough luck...you're forced to make a refund for the item (ebay will automatically do this and take it out of your paypal/bank account after 7-10 days or once the item is returned), refund the price for shipping the item out to the buyer AND also must pay to have the item shipped back from the buyer on the return.
There are scam sellers out there but far fewer than a couple years ago. eBay is cracking down, especially on those located outside the United States. It's scam buyers who are now becoming the problem with this new money back guarantee.

Sosa games uses friends and family to ruin his competition. Buys your item then reports to Amazon and Ebay that you sell counterfeit items. See the Bad Buyer List.

Forget (the wanna be below my post) - your claim is legitimate. If a seller`s description does not match the product and sent in a shabby way as clearly as this viideo reveals ---post pictures of them and link them up to send to ebay. This is obviously a sloppy seller who doesn't care about the buyer. I dont know if you resolved this issue but if it were me I would be polite with the seller (at first) to try and resolve the issue (with pictures) and if that doesn't work talk with ebay and if that doesn't work as a last resort give the creep negative feedback. It could also be a corrupt mail personnel who opened your package up to look for money. Investigate all possible avenues first then judge.

    1. You ought to have allocated a whole desk for your you-tube presentation.
    2. Your introduction is far too long; you need to make notes and recite them.
    3. If you adjusted the camera focus, you need quit filming and re-focus, for close-ups, then joint the two videos to make the longer with the close-up incorporated.
    4. When they say/write "unwanted gift" the vendor obtained it and it is unwanted. Even charities who use eBay to sell things they've been given can say unwanted gift.
    5. Nice audio.

"Let the buyer beware". Here's the straight dope on buyer/seller issues. First, it is entirely up to the buyer to ask questions when purchasing an item on EBay. You have that right and should indeed exercise that right. Golden rule. If it sounds too good to be true, then it likely is too good to be true. Take the pass. Save your money. Look for another item or wait, but always ask questions. I find that people are generally honest and want your business. I know I do. So why lie? Why place yourself, as a seller, in the position of a lying cheat? Buyers come in several categories. Those that know exactly what they want and know exactly what they are looking at. To, those that are just winging it and hope for the best. Some where in between are the rest of us buyers trying to strike a healthy balance.
Sellers need to be transparent, honest and available for questions. If I buy a radio controlled vehicle, I start with the pictures. Then I look at the description. Then I see where it is coming from. After that, I decide whether or not to ask questions. If sellers look at this from the point of view of a buyer, they will likely sell their item. Especially if they answers any questions truthfully. We all know there are crooks out there, but most folks are just trying to make a buck and many don't even know about the item (s) they are selling.
In most instantances, the buyer is at fault. After all, you chose to make the purchase. I have been fairly lucky thus far in my EBay
purchases. Like that $1200 dollar racing bicycle I puchased for $400 dollars. Best puchase I have ever made and I picked up the bicycle myself. The couple selling it were both bicycle racers. They had nothing to hide and I found an awesome racing bike for very little money. Point is, ask questions of the seller. Settle for nothing but absolute honesty. Remember, EBay can and will arbitrate any disputes between customers. In the final analysis, the buyer MUST look after him/her self.
    It's your money!!!

I was a buyer and was looking at a you tube video about ebay and there was all sellers on comments basically stating that anyone who asks questions was bad buyers ????? All sellers making out they're saints and all buyers are bad buyers if they ask questions it was all one sided rubbish ..I quit eBay cause of getting ripped off a couple of times and a seller mouthing off because I left a neutral feedback because I received different to what was pictured..so I quit the lot

Another complaning ebay buyer crying about some dust. so if you walked into Walmart and seen some items with some dust on it and you buy it and realized it had some dust on it would you return it and say its used because it got dust on it. If i got it real cheap and it works great I really don't care how the SELLER described it as long as it works and its in excellent condition and I got it real CHEAP,,HELL I'll just take a few seconds of my time and take rag or a towel and wiped the dust off!

I know this comment is old, but how do you feel about it now? the same? because if I bought a new electronic I would expect it to be completely clean because dust is a killer for electronics, I would expect it on an opened floor model sure but not new, know the difference between opened used and new.
